      If he swapped out the meat for tofu he would get the protein without the fats.

    My guess is that a lot of riders unconsciously brings less than what they need if they don't use an app/program or whatever. Same when they are riding, they might feel pretty good without carbs/water for quite a while until they suddenly feel empty. Just assuming here, since I never drink enough myself, no matter how much effort I'm doing. More or less what you are saying in the middle.
    Seems like a pretty good app if it's simple to use and you can scan barcodes and stuff.

    Given this requirement for carbs post ride, gosh why wouldn’t a heavy Belgian beer be appropriate? I get some cyclists are very cautious about toxins but when I see the Kj in just one heavier Trappist ales I can’t imagine a faster way to carb back up and maybe take the edge off!? Logical or horrible idea?

    Great video. Learned a lot.
    But I do disagree with discouraging activation exercises. For many athletes these may not be necessary, but for others they may be crucial. From personal experience I can say injury can occur over time if exerting yourself without the right muscles firing. For many, glutes and core need constant work & activation.
    It doesn’t hurt anyone to do these, but it could hurt not to.

    Imagine you could get a constant glucose IV drip during training that gives you 200g of glucose per hour or even more lol. Wouldnt that be a crazy advantage in training because you could train much harder and recover better? Because the way I understand it, the limiting factor with carbohydrate is the gut and if you get it straight into your blood there wouldnt really be an upper limit?

    • @user-qx4bp5rf3n
      @user-qx4bp5rf3n Рік тому +1

      That'd be pretty interesting. Probably best done in the lab/hometrainer for safety with the IV, but certainly could be something the top top guys are doing to build up that insane sweetspot/FTP repeatability in the Grand Tours.

    • @lorenzfrass9499
      @lorenzfrass9499 Рік тому

      Yeah I mean how would you test anyone for that anyway… Now I have a picture in my head of jonas sitting on the trainer with a bag of glucose solution written „Jumbo Juice“ on it dripping into his arm lol. IF it really worked and there would be a significant benefit they would be stupid not to do it, eh? But I guess there would also be a ceiling on the amount of sugar you could do IV and have a real benefit from it because plasma glucose is only part of the equation, there is lots of muscle glycogen that is also being utilised.

In that respect, IV might not be too different in time to absorption from ingesting high GI low density foods like drinks, gels and chews. @@user-qx4bp5rf3n The limiting factor for carb ingestion are glucose (SGLT) and fructose (GLUT5) transporters in small intestine not the absorption to muscles if I have understood correctly. The small intestine transporters are also the reason for 0.8:1 fructose to glucose ratio since this does not overwhelm either transporter and leave non-absorbed sugars to be fermented by gut bacteria.

    • @nerocoaching
      @nerocoaching  Рік тому +3

      Not placebo to that stretch in particular, but to the "activations" or low load strength movements are borderline placebo because they won't directly result in any measurable strength increase or performance increase on the bike. But they can work indirectly by making a rider feel stronger or more comfortable, then thus give a benefit.
      I've seen riders first hand gain back 1-2 hours of ride training time per week by ditching these insanely long pre-ride activation/stretching routines.

    Regarding the eatmyride app, isn't it as simple as calculating the required energy to ride at X watts average on a certain route? That energy will need to be replenished with food. If that energy comes from fat or carbs, does that matter? Storing carbs as fat is less efficient so you'd need more but yeah. I also don't get why FTP is relevant. Since you already have the energy that the ride 'costs' in watts. Is that purely for the fat/carb ratio?
