+Ravtej Singh On certain really aggressive lines, your pawns can move backwards to revert to a more defensive position. It almost always catches your opponent off guard.
Kevin you are the best of the best, explaining chess gambits, easy to understand, perfect accent. You can be a very successful news caster as well. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed.
Yes! I got introduced to it because of GJ! I'm quite surprised the Colorado Gambit isn't that much popular compared to the other openings! That makes LOTS of opponents unprepared if it is used against them.
I have played this gambit before. It's not very promising but it does give you a reasonable chance to pull off a major upset against a player that's rated a bit higher than you, especially in faster games. A part of the reason why it's exciting is because it's really easy for White to stumble into a loss even in a completely winning position. I actually had one game where I played a queen sacrifice. (It was not a great move, though it was hard to find anything better in the position). I'm dead in the water. My opponent makes two false king moves and I get myself a new queen and mate him. That's how crazy this opening can be. I'm not really sure if I agree that accepting the gambit is best for White. There are different takes on that. However, if you do find that this is in fact the case, Fischer's definition of an inferior gambit is a gambit that can be refuted by accepting it. (He implies this in his "The King's Gambit Is Busted" article). Just something to keep in mind when playing any gambit.
10:22 Can you play Horse to F4, forces a check and means you can take his queen, yes he can take yours but black would be in a better question. Thoughts. Trade Queens seems the best moves for black.
many variations from the 5:57 mark but the most common and aggressive move for me that i saw and most likely would have done is moving the knight and exposing the king to a check while simultaneously threatening the queen with the knight from f4! black blocks with queen. from there white retreats with his or her queen and castles after that. black is left with horrible pawn structure. easy game for white!
Can you make a video on the incredibly similar duras gambit? I just beat a 1600 with it, and I know 1600 isnt an incredibly high rating but it's still notable and the accepted line can actually give you incredible compensation
I'm a casual player and I tend to look into openings and not study the lines too hard and figure it out for myself but like the videos says near the end if that initial gambit pawn is taken it can get really ugly
fear9998 If Nf4, then Qe4+. White still loses the Knight if Qe2 to cover off the check. Black's pawns are messy and if white plays 0-0, he regains the initiative, but Black should be able to hold on to his extra material.
Or even better if Nf4, even queen exchange is fine, because after Nxh5 Nxd5 cxd5 Black has successfully undoubled his pawns and has a piece for a pawn. Again, after White castles, he gains the ibitiative, because Black needs time to regroup, but it is tenable.
In fact Black's biggest advantage is that White has no light squared bishop in the position, meaning that the only really huge weakness has been taken care of.
The Colorado Gambit is such an underrated opening. (By that I mean it doesn't get the greatest reviews, not that it's only an opening for lower rated players :P)
there is no way in hell this gambit works. its a lose lose situation basically. black loses material in exchange for a (weak looking) attack and development
at lichess, it's 46:50 at 167,000 games, so it's only as sound as a grandmaster approved line because REAL gambits perform BETTER than mainlines at the amateur level. king's gambit, smith morra, blackmar diemer, and the french wing gambit etc. tend to PERFORM at +10% under 2200! forget anyone who calls gambits unsound! that's only against a GM, and i've NEVER played one.
Unlike the other opening videos I have watched by you this one is very confusing, are we the black player right now? why are we playing from white's perspective?
at 21:10 the queen will not comeback because pawn takes pawn and if pawn takes the rook is a goner and if did not the knight will go by by with check and queen protecs it , i am not a grandmaster but will not play this even if you pay me
Good analysis as long as white blunders. If white does not blunder then white is always better. The analysis of a line counting on your opponent to make a blunder is really pointless. Can't stand your accent!!!
You cocky little idiot. Why dont you leave Kevin in peace ? He did a nice video, who gives a damn about the pronounciation ? Wtf is wrong with people these days, everything in evilness, evil remarks, acerb remarks !
Guys, in the Colorado gambit, pawns can move backwards.

LOL nice
Zam
at 19:20 you said a pawn could take backwards :P

I highly recommend the outstanding GJ Chess video series on Colorado gambit.
Yes! I got introduced to it because of GJ!

I know why this is called the colorado gambit. Because you have to be high as a kite to play it
But...it IS a good opening.
Most people aren't prepared for it, which is good, so I use it!
Lol

19:20 Whaaaat?
+Starflash Z Maybe he meant the b pawn
Yeah probably, it was just funny though :P
+Starflash Z lol he just missed his click and didn't want to redo the video.
Thanks Kevin for a soo interesting gambit! I will try this one! 😀👍♟
I love how Kevin always uses masculine pronouns for the queen...
+Bozocow thats because the queen is a bro
Cancel him
i like this gambit sir... thanks for the explanation..
10:22

Oh snap, this video is the most recent one I've seen on this channel so far
İn the variaton e4 Nc6 Nf3 f5 exf5 Bd6 instead of Developing Knight to h6 you can get your pawn to e5 its a better move
THERE,should be a line on 1.e4 Nc6 what if white plays d4!
many variations from the 5:57 mark but the most common and aggressive move for me that i saw and most likely would have done is moving the knight and exposing the king to a check while simultaneously threatening the queen with the knight from f4! black blocks with queen. from there white retreats with his or her queen and castles after that. black is left with horrible pawn structure. easy game for white!

I like this opening but there's two lines under declined that leave white set up to use a fried liver and I wanted to know how to handle that as black
I'm a casual player and I tend to look into openings and not study the lines too hard and figure it out for myself but like the videos says near the end if that initial gambit pawn is taken it can get really ugly
6:17 white knight to f4 will be queen exchange then white can castle and has advantage of blacks structure being messy

hey i think you should do a video on the vienna
Hey Kevin could you do a Cochrane gambit opening video?
3:30 what about Qf3 ? :/ isn't that good for white ? .-.
At 6:25, why not take the rook with the knight?
Better Colorado gambit analysis at the GJ_Chess UA-cam channel. Definitely worth looking there.
Can you make a video about Austrian defense please?
Good Lord, you talk real fast.
Omg that pronunciation of nimzowitch
Wouldn't it be better to view this from the black side?
I have been trying this gambit for quite a while and I almost never get any of the positions that you analyzed here
also could you do a video on how to checkmate with 2 horses + king only?
You can't force it but you sometimes can if the opponent has a pawn because then they can't get stalemated
The Colorado Gambit is such an underrated opening. (By that I mean it doesn't get the greatest reviews, not that it's only an opening for lower rated players :P)
FunnyAnimatorJimTV u must check out gj chess colorado gambit most attacking game
just listen what he is saying
Make more videos pls
Can you please make Benko Opening ?
I was going to play the Colorado gambit… but then I got high.
Is this more or less sound than the Latvian Gambit? Obviously there are many similar lines.
15:21 what usually happens to me :D
So, what are you supposed to do if he moves the Night back to F3? (7.Nf3) instead of pushing forward?
What happens if knight goes for f4?
More analysis more openings
More variations
more vids pls kevin
looks like king's gambit in right hand or latvian gambit
+Ну Ненадо Check out "Bastiaan brussels gambit" on youtube. In that gambit you can get in that kind of lines through the Sicilian defense.
there is no way in hell this gambit works. its a lose lose situation basically. black loses material in exchange for a (weak looking) attack and development
you could probably get away using it against lower rated opponents & for fun ofc :)
+MRChris Ng You can have a look at GJ Chess's video on the Colorado Gambit. He covers different lines thats quite a lot better and safer.
ooh pawns can move backwards COOLIO

nice
Boulder, Colorado
what should black do if white moves 2. Nc3?
I have a similar question: what if white doesn't play 2. Nf3 - is the Colorado gambit still possible? Or Duras or whatever?
10:23 what if he plays the most obvious move - Nf4+?
Then you take queen with the knight. White knight takes queen and pawn takes white's knight, so you're up one piece. Right?
5:32, why not take knight, chech thN TAKE BISHOP
Bishop is worth more than the knight and also the bishop needs to be taken down because he attacked the king. Check.
because you are in check and you have to block or take bishop, all other moves are illegal

How can the pawn take backwards on 19:20?
I just played the White aide of this a few weeks ago. Won handily after taking the pawn and fighting over a backward pawn.
I prefer after exf5 to play d4 followed by Bd3.
I prefer after exf5 to play d4 followed by Bd3.
you are sacrificing a whole rook for nothing and just for a aggresive attack its not good enough
It’s not a whole
Rook. Its a rook for a Knight.
at 19:20 how in the world could that pond take??
I think that he grabbed the pone by fault he just wanted to saw us the knight
Pawn
ok thanks when i have time i will analyse this game on stockfish analyses board
LMAO!
These sequence of comments just made me burst in laughter!
Some because of the typos.
is duras gambit the same thing with Colorado gambit?
Is it still possible to transpose into this line by starting out with Sicilian?
Ismail Bolden are you kidding?
Unlike the other opening videos I have watched by you this one is very confusing, are we the black player right now? why are we playing from white's perspective?
thomassaurus also in the traxler counter attack
at 2:44 white can checkmate king if he go to f5
+mimin Rus71 no
name of this chess program please
+Nicolas Melia noo? really?
19:20 is a funny chess moment :)
My bad... 3. Nc3
the colorado gambit is how you lose the center and the game. gee gee.
Film Producer I like it.
5:32 QxNe5+ and white will loose a peice.
You cant take the knight because your king is in check.
at 21:10 the queen will not comeback because pawn takes pawn and if pawn takes the rook is a goner and if did not the knight will go by by with check and queen protecs it , i am not a grandmaster but will not play this even if you pay me
hmm it's a matter of taste but I don't like this opening at all
This analysis is horrible black is losing after exf5 he just says its fine with no reason
6th
totally unsound gambit white will win easily by perfect play
How can you butcher the pronunciation of Nimzowitsch's name? You pronounced it "NIm-ZAH-witsch". Oof!!
This may surprise you but Nimzowitsch isn't a name I use every day. There are def going to be words I don't pronounce correctly.
Good analysis as long as white blunders. If white does not blunder then white is always better. The analysis of a line counting on your opponent to make a blunder is really pointless. Can't stand your accent!!!
Anybody who is relatively good at chess should know how to pronounce nimzowitch. What is your elo? I don't understand why you make chess videos.
You cocky little idiot. Why dont you leave Kevin in peace ? He did a nice video, who gives a damn about the pronounciation ? Wtf is wrong with people these days, everything in evilness, evil remarks, acerb remarks !
