It’s what makes Black Friday so interesting to pick apart and think about. If you laid out the story and bullet-point where each song would go along with basic summaries of those songs’ purpose and point, it really wouldn’t be that good. But the songs themselves are genuinely so good! Monsters and Men, on paper, is just… what, “the sidest of side characters sing a song that says we need to stop the bad guy”? That’s basically nothing, and McNamara should’ve had a singing part at the end of Lex’s Black Friday instead. But Jeff and Curt go so FUCKING HARD ON MONSTERS AND MEN IT BECOMES SO HARD TO COMPLAIN ABOUT!
i’m so glad to see some firebringer love here. like it has it problems but from a harmonic construction standpoint firebringer is easily the best starkid musical for me. every chord is so crunchy and complex, and i love how it lets itself really relish in those deeper notes.
