Just brought my snowcheck home last Friday. I smile every time I look at it. Black VR1 850 with red rails and spindles. We’re going to have a blast this winter!
I took one of those xcr 600 reed case engines and ported it and little clutch work and i put it on a 2000 Polaris indy triumph 600 and let me tell you thats a smooth powerful angry two stoke , the gut that ported it is a genius when it comes to those engines
I had a black 97. Low end was mushy. Changed the slides to 1.5's, leaned out the pilots and dropped the needles. Helped a bit. Ending up engaging at almost 5K anyway. 😂
For the love of two strokes stop with the ether and clean the carbs and verify the jetting in it. All new brass aside from the needles, set float height, sync the slide height PROPERLY is a big one. The slide stop is not for syncing the slides...
before going on a tangent the previous video shows all the work we did. went through the carbs. all new internals. did the whole deal. it needed some extra push to get it over the hump!
Triples ruled in the 90s. Man handling the Storm 800 was a fun time. New 650 XCR must better on my older body. Still ditch banging. I don’t miss the hard pulls. I liked the nightmares comet. Sold my Storm for a 14 Axis 600 Switchback
Clutching and jetting will be a big improvement on a stock 600 XCR, depending on where you live it'll depend on altitude and temperature on clutching and carb tuning
I had a 1988 650 Indy piped and clutched. No low-end power but she hit hard once the rpm were up in that sweet spot. Next I owned a 1995 XLT that was stock. Both were fun sleds.
Every self respecting snowmobiler should have a triple... or two to mess around on. They're just fun to ride now and then. My dad has a 97 XLT 600 that he bought new back in the day. I have a 98 Mach Z that needs a rebuild, but talk about a riot of a machine to ride. So much power and such a blast.
Badass! You got check out triple fest in Minnesota In February!! If south side gets any vr1boost in the blue I’d love to see it on camera as i have yet to see it and it’s what I got coming in!
If it was out of phased .. it would have been backfiring thru the carbs and if it was out of phase pretty bas, the sled wouldnt start. It happened to me with my 95 xcr6.
Since every cylinder is different you should do the cylinders by vacuum Gauge, like after 3 grand you should be able to adjust them all the same and if I remember right ( Having nothing to do with the low end) we used to have to set the floats as high as possible because the engine would empty the carb bowls, don't know if you guys did the diaphragm on that fuel pump 🤔 Brings back Alot of memories 😂😂👍👍
That's just how those sleds run! Rode multiple and you have to be going at least 40 to make it feel like it's running right. They call them lake rockets for a reason! Actually a terrible sled for ditch riding because of the clutching and weight but a blast on groomed trails, or lakes! Those triple triples (3 jugs, 3 pipes) are on another level than the 3 jugs to single pipe sleds.
@@JESSEJAMES322 indeed. If you stud it don't put them on the edges where the track rides over the main idler wheels or it will tear all of them out. Cheers to a snow filled 2023!
I'd start by getting a stock airbox. Ebay is a good place to look. The jetting will be way off without it and you won't usually gain any power without one and can actually lose power. If I remember right the air box will have a jetting chart on it. That will let you set it up with factory settings to the riding temp and altitude. The jetting sticker might be under the hood somewhere but i think it'son the air box on old Polaris sleds. It will be best to start with stock carb settings and make adjustments from there if needed. Some settings like needle clip positions and idle mixture screws might need to be looked up in a service maual. One more thing to do is bleed new brake fluid through it. The fluid will pick up moisture over the years and when it heats up the fluid it will expand and and drag your brake till it's glowing red and locks up.
I’ve got the same sled… I think the clutching that I bought it with is close… Polaris almond square primary spring, A10 weights, R11 helix, gold secondary 2nd hole. Fair warning, mine is also running like crap. It’s not getting full belt.. I think the primary is shot (bushings to shafts for cover and moveable sheave) and the belt might not be right for it. Also I went down one jet size from 360/380/380 to 350/370/370 @ 25*F ~1000ft Also they tend to roach water pumps. When I got it, water pump was toast and one of the coils was bad. I rebuilt it, but it’s still not right. Are you guys out of Manistee by chance?

Many hours in 90s Mikuni Carbs and new needle and seats (viton tipped) always made them start better! They leaked bad and starting was tough. Love the triple sound!!
if you watched the previous video you would see that they were just gone through top to bottom and drained the tank and put a new pickup and fuel line but thanks
Greasy triple!!!!!!!! How about some respect here!!!!those sleds paved the way for sledding for years. One thing I know about the old triples is they like champion pluggs a lot better than ngk.... ngk foul up and never come back. I've put 3000 miles on a set of plugs. Ngk are lucky to Last 1 ride they are a waste of money just junk

love it!!! new sleds are the best!!

much better on the older body!! this will be a fun toy though!

Love the classic iron content. Can't wait to see some riding videos on that thing.
gonna try and keep them coming!
Gotta love that triple sound that thing will be fun on a lake this winter
cant wait to get it on some snow!

hoping to get some clutching done
I remember that sound!! Thanks for part 2.
sounded so good when it fired!!!

they are a bug piece of histpry and fun. cannot wait to get some mile son this one this tear!

there are sleds showing up everyday so one day ill have to get up there and do some more 23 videos!
It sounded pretty good to me! It does bring back good memories, thanks. Take care
sounded wat better then we ever anticipated!!
Sounds like the crank is out of phase. It doesn’t take much for those to spin. I’ve had 15 of the Fuji triples. Great motors .
im learning and Bruce is trying to remember how these work haha. What do you mean by out of phase?
That crank isnt out of phase at all. Its warm and he has no airbox on it
If it was out of phased .. it would have been backfiring thru the carbs and if it was out of phase pretty bas, the sled wouldnt start. It happened to me with my 95 xcr6.

lot of moving parts. just trying to get the basics going!!

they come alive when they are up in the RPM's

Stock airbox is needed
The air box is in the behind them on the floor chill out people
!!!check fuel shut off valve, pump and gas tank for debris, the lines in the tank like to degrade, seen it on a xlt and xcr before..

One word....SWEET
coming along! was good to hear it run!
Try Chad from EPI as far as clutching plus try Matt Weeks for carb setup he knows his stuff
ill have to look into this! thnak you!
I wanna see a video of the old xcr lining up with the new xcr and see how bad the new machine walks away for the old sled.
i can do that!!!
There is a guy named "pockets" on the Polaris forums who really seems to know tuning on the 90s sleds
Kerry is a great dude!
ill have to find him!
@@JESSEJAMES322 the info I gave you is from a sheet he had written up! 😎
Just sent this to my cousin who I told you had the sled. I’ll have him look
thank you!
Get ahold of Todd Clyne or go watch his UA-cam Todd Clyne he’s the Polaris triple KING
i know he is the man. hopefully i can connect with him!
Many hours in 90s Mikuni Carbs and new needle and seats (viton tipped) always made them start better! They leaked bad and starting was tough. Love the triple sound!!
previous video we put all new internals in the carbs including seats with viton tips
todds gonna say water pump for sure! lol
previous owner did it luckily!
Heck yea way to go getting xcr 600 tripple running.
it was a good moment when it fired on all 3!!
I commented his name a tad to early lol you already know
Gotta let her warm up some more
she was good and warm! was about 110 that day out
If you want that thing to RUN get yourself a set of AAEN 10653 pipes. Throw those stock ones in the garbage where they belong.
Depend evolation and weather temps
of course. need jets etc to change
Clean the carbs guy. Evidently you've been away from the carburetors too long
if you watched the previous video you would see that they were just gone through top to bottom and drained the tank and put a new pickup and fuel line but thanks
Course it will run it a 2 stroke ,old sled like this dont have junk computer board junk like new sleds of today just saying
Clean out pilot jets
has all new ones. previous video we went through the carbs top to bottom

Nothing sounds better than a triple plain and simple no matter what kinda pipes you put on a twin they never sound as good
they do sound good!
