Even for Russians who were born after the break of Soviet Union this game is incredibly nostalgic. Nu Pogodi is everyone's favourite childhood cartoon, Baba Zina is part of memes and anecdotes, and overall style is a perfect mix of Soviet attributes with cyberpunk elements.
The conversation around 58:00 mark talking about the the glow seeing robots thing reminds me of a spoiler/foreshadow if you noticed/thought about from the 2nd batman game where you look at the joker with the visor and he doesn't have bones.
So the general consensus is good premise but needed better writing and clearer game development but otherwise ok game for a first project that should not cost 70 bucks. Hopefully they learn from this and the studio doesnt go under. Maybe they can make new and better Atomic Art.
I’ve only played like 3 hours so far, but I’m having fun. Exposition, writing, and world building can be overwhelming and the main character’s writing is just weird, but the gameplay is fun. Got it through gamepass pc ($1 deal for a month) and I’m looking forward to playing more of it.
I intensely hate the feeling of starting a game and thinking "Wh...did I skip the cutscene?" Then restarting and realizing "nope, this is just the game...."
Several things 1. The robots are literally based on Ballerina which are hypersexualized irl. 2. The incident happened 3 days before you start playing. (Audio logs, text logs and npc conversations.) 3. All progress goes left in communism 4. The fridge was hacked to be like that so she would lure survivors in to kill. 5. The facility is set in far east siberia, near Sakhalin 6. Your character doesnt know the facility. 7. There's a lot of high concept thought behind the game, alot will go over peoples heads. I honestly believe this game is Culturally intriguing, there's so much here to unpack. Crispy Critters
I read a Star Wars-centric comment before this one. For a second I thought Disney gave Star Wars to Kevin Feige and gave him a carte blanche, and all he added to Star Wars were carnifridge-level stuff. 😵
@HelloKolla one of the concepts I noticed flying over their heads was the fact that the tone seems extreme nonsensical and insane. That's explained with P3 being almost completely insane, only holding on by a thread of sanity
When I was playing this game and saw Motherland Calls statue in the opening sequence of gameplay, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of emotions… I was born in Volgograd which is what Stalingrad is called today, and that statue actually stands there today. One of the largest in the world.
I think reloading in Gears of War and the bonus EXP finishers you can get in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning are good examples of QTEs. Never once was annoyed by the charging mechanic in Secret of Mana.
I know that this is off-topic, but I hope to see EFAP and Jon clash once season 2 of TLOU comes out... I doubt MauLer forgot all the pain Part 2 caused and will despise it just the same way.
I’ve been replaying TLOU2, despite hating it the first time, because I feel like I’m going to need to have my arguments fresh for next year. I’ve been loving the show though, so I’m really hoping that barring a totally rewrite, they at least build things in a way which makes more sense than the game
@@MarcTheCyborg On one hand I hope they'll rewrite it, but on the other I know that it's probably not gonna happen; Part 2 is Druckmann's greatest achievement, chaining it's story would be like admitting to a defeat. I also hope a bit that they won't rewrite it, just so that people will hate it.
In regards to "crispy critters" and other similar weird translations - I know it doesn't make much sense to use bilingual speak in-universe; it should all be Russian or all translated. But, there's frequently the thing in other games, shows, and movies where we understand that they're using their language - whether that be a real world language or an alien language - and we just hear it as English (or whatever language we're listening to), but then they occasionally throw in a phrase or a curse word in the language that they're supposed to be speaking. Why not just do that? Most of the dialogue is in English, but he swears or says whatever crispy critters originally was in Russian? It also reinforces the feeling of immersion that the character/setting is Russian, while still being able to understand most of what's said and understanding that whatever is actual Russian is said in a certain tone of frustration/excitement.

he's the dunning kruger friend, barely knows just enough to get by and seem smart but completely blunders if pressed on anything. he's good at explaining the what, but would crumble if asked to explain the why. what do you expect, he's a furry reaction youtuber lmao
SFO - I liked the fridge, because it made me laugh and was unexpected. It's unlikely to ever appear in other western games, so that added a bit of extra novelty for me. I enjoyed it. Mauler - That's a lame reason to like it What a cringe response, lol. "You like it for a reason that I can't relate to, therefor it's lame" wtf hahaha
this argument is not-so-distantly related to the Poop Cactus argument. a Poop Cactus is unique and difficult to create. that does not make it good or worthwhile in and of itself.
You know, I think the fact that this is a six hours long podcast where the EFAP crew spends only about half of it talking about the game (or even less) in favor of anything from Bioshock to JRPGs to Dead Space to the effects of time limitations in games like Majora's Mask and Disco Elysium, speaks more about the game than the other half where they *actually* discuss it. I mean, with all honestly, after watching the whole episode, the only things I remember about the game itself are the whole "crispy critters" debacle, the weird cutscene where the twin robots do their unicorn-horn-belly-cutting-key-retrieving-ballerina-standing-jelly-man thing, and Short Fat Otaku liking the thirsty girlfriend fridge for being based.
For me Atomic Heart is a mixed bag. I love the setting and aesthetics, and honestly, crispy critters works for me as a catchphrase in spite of the rest of the cringy dialogue. The gameplay is fun at times, but the gunplay feels really clunky. The fact that you can't simply pick up weapons in the world and have to craft them is probably the worst part of it, and if you don't find the blueprint for a weapon, you can't backtrack and get it. While you couldn't backtrack in Bioshock, every weapon is laid out for you to immediately pick up and use and is basically impossible to miss. In Atomic Heart, I actually missed the blueprint for the AK-47, which I feel is a big oversight.
Here me out: Atomic Heart 2 has you starting off in the kollective as P-3 and with the assistance of your robot wife you escape it. You have P-3 fighting through a mix of the facility and the dream world, bringing back the robots from AH and adding some crazy and wacky kollective enemies. in the middle of the game you wake up to the real world in like a factory after successfully escaping and your goal is to find Charles and kill him but to help you, you have to reform your wife in a singular ballerina and after you do so you go to confront charles but it’s revealed that you are still in kollective and it’s all been inside your head. You could have it to where your kollective wife helps you out to fight off the collective charles and finally escape and emerge in AH3 with your job to fight the real Charles. I feel like that would be a cool game
Or if we start from the ending where you just walk away from the fight, your personal quest would be to hunt down Charles and your super robot device/glove would be Nora, I think that would be pretty hilarious:) and at some point, you could rebuild the twins in some way where they get your wife personality back and they also join you against Charles and you end up in a weird robot harem:D
32:45 Publisher =/= Developer The Sherlock Holmes games were made by a different studio than the Plague Tales. Also, I don't remember the dialogue in the SH games being bad... but I haven't played them in a while. 🤔
UE5 was in early release when UE4 was still getting updates, so quite a few UE5 features made it into the last 2 versions of UE4. You can get a lot of the same look in UE4, it's just all prebaked lighting instead of realtime. UE5 right now is pretty much UE4 with a lot of geometry efficiencies, realtime GI and soft shadows, etc added on top.
2:22:11 EFAP movies should do the Revolutionary Girl Utena Movie. It is WILD and hilarious. The English dub is just a little cringey, which adds to the fun. It was one of my favorite movies to break out at parties without context because it’s just so “WTF IS GOING ON”
1:57:33 You... just said the same thing twice. For the record, the difference between a mod and a hack is that the former modifies the game files before you run the game to change the content, while the latter modifies the game's code in the memory while you're running it. One applies to the game every time you start it, the other only applies to that one instance of the game (unless it's saved, like when you cheat yourself a bazillion currency in an RPG). Oh, and then there are the fun middle ground stuff, like some Cyberpunk or Pathfinder mods, where you mod the files to give yourself an in-game menu that can be used to cheat or alter variables, effectively acting like a hack.
I see we have people [in the lineup] that think for some reason the bad end is the good end and vice-versa. So I will say this again: "Okay so everyone be thinking Option 1 is the good ending and Option 2 is the bad ending, why? Option 1: The truth of the atrocity never comes to light and the plan for humanity to become mind controlled continues unimpeded, the protagonist sits out from then on. Option 2: Humanity is aware of the dangers of the robots and the existence of the ring leader, the protagonists mind is in the network reconnected with his wife with the implications of her own scheme to stop the robots as well. So what's the problem? You don't like that the protagonist's body died at the end when we've seen plenty of proof that that doesn't mean it's over? You don't like that he continued to be played when him choosing Option 1 was just sticking to the leash he's had for the entire game, which you reader most likely complained about him not pulling off sooner? I get that Option 2 is total sequel bait, but just because the other isn't doesn't make it in any way the better or "good" ending, not by a long shot."
@@grandarkfang_1482 I agree to an extent, but you'll have to elaborate because the way I see it there's a big difference between "certain doom" and "a fighting chance".
3:05:00 They already do journo mode where everything's easy and you basically just watch the story. Why not do no-puzzle mode in the settings? When you encounter any puzzles in the game, have it solve itself. Then have the companion or the protag or something in the game in this mode but not the normal mode say something like "Good thinking!" or "That was really smart of you!" or something. Not in a mocking tone, totally sincere sounding. But it's only turned on in this no-puzzle mode.
3:32:50 NNNnnnnnoooooo!!!!!! Don't do this to meeee!!! Twitter and other youtube channels say that you don't care about themes and never discuss them! Don't discuss the theme! You were the chosen ones! You were meant to ignore themes, not embrace them!
44:00 Really? I didn't remember Infinite being well regarded. I only remember it being called bad, ever since it came out. I'm sure you're right. I just don't remember hearing good things about it, which dissuaded me from playing it, even though I liked BioShock. Wow! It does have a 94% on MetaCritic! That's really high praise. IDK. I remember being interested in playing it, then deciding not to and hearing bad things about it. huh.
"Doom songs don't fit in this game" - actually, they are still remixes of Russian songs. The Hedgie one is a metal cover of Peter Chaikovsky's "1812 overture" and "Trava u doma" is a 70s soviet song about cosmonauts (and it plays in the space researcch complex).
0:06:38 the most reasonable thing for us to do is taking the f*cking lighter away from Mauler or atleast placing it in another room when he is on the f*cking microphone.
The only time I liked/felt QTE’s fit was in the God of War games when he has to life something really heavy like a door or whatnot. It helps sell the weight of the object but also how strong he is.

Once again, Fringy's mic is so low he soubds like he's in the back of the room.
Yep. Fringos go in the back. Fringos are an oppressed group.
The conversation around 58:00 mark talking about the the glow seeing robots thing reminds me of a spoiler/foreshadow if you noticed/thought about from the 2nd batman game where you look at the joker with the visor and he doesn't have bones.
"Let me do the ballet foot pose, uWu."
*foot crunches into self and partially clips through floor*
So the general consensus is good premise but needed better writing and clearer game development but otherwise ok game for a first project that should not cost 70 bucks.
Hopefully they learn from this and the studio doesnt go under. Maybe they can make new and better Atomic Art.
I'm optimistic, it's a good start, they can tweek some things and work on the writing for the sequel
I’ve only played like 3 hours so far, but I’m having fun. Exposition, writing, and world building can be overwhelming and the main character’s writing is just weird, but the gameplay is fun. Got it through gamepass pc ($1 deal for a month) and I’m looking forward to playing more of it.
I intensely hate the feeling of starting a game and thinking "Wh...did I skip the cutscene?" Then restarting and realizing "nope, this is just the game...."
remember when you turned on mario 3 and pressed start and the game just started and you were playing immediately? yeah that sucked
Several things
1. The robots are literally based on Ballerina which are hypersexualized irl.
2. The incident happened 3 days before you start playing. (Audio logs, text logs and npc conversations.)
3. All progress goes left in communism
4. The fridge was hacked to be like that so she would lure survivors in to kill.
5. The facility is set in far east siberia, near Sakhalin
6. Your character doesnt know the facility.
7. There's a lot of high concept thought behind the game, alot will go over peoples heads.
I honestly believe this game is Culturally intriguing, there's so much here to unpack. Crispy Critters
What are the concepts? I am interested.
I get that this developer made actual blunders, such as having all the voice actors record their lines individually.
Currently watching Mauler's Let's Play so I have a perception before their dissection.
@Hostmann Socrates It would probably be a better idea to just watch a let's play if you really need to refresh the story. Less pain.
@Hostmann Socrates Seeing his pain makes you feel pain as well, so be careful.
@@Kernwadi too true DEX, too true
In regards to "crispy critters" and other similar weird translations - I know it doesn't make much sense to use bilingual speak in-universe; it should all be Russian or all translated. But, there's frequently the thing in other games, shows, and movies where we understand that they're using their language - whether that be a real world language or an alien language - and we just hear it as English (or whatever language we're listening to), but then they occasionally throw in a phrase or a curse word in the language that they're supposed to be speaking. Why not just do that? Most of the dialogue is in English, but he swears or says whatever crispy critters originally was in Russian? It also reinforces the feeling of immersion that the character/setting is Russian, while still being able to understand most of what's said and understanding that whatever is actual Russian is said in a certain tone of frustration/excitement.
because the translation was outsourced. I sincerely hope they never do that again. This localization is terrible.
"In Soviet Russia, the game plays you."
-Comrade Baggins
@Hostmann Socrates For the shared wealth!
In soviet Russia, media critiques you.
I'm still hearing that menu music that played during this EFAP ... 😬 But in Soviet Russia music plays you!
Watched Morbius 3 times. Efap movies when.
This would be an EFAP of all time.
maybe when there's less going on? It'd be an efap for the ages!
gosh.. you guys! 🤭
Mandalorians, the bad-ass organization of warriors that can be neutralized by spray paint to the face.
These Crispy Critters are creeping everywhere.
I was a crispy critter like you, but then I got soft
The worst thing that can ever happen to a critter.
I used to be a critter myself, but then I took a crisp to the knee
No, the behind the scenes reasons for the helmet is pascal probably pushed for it so he could just voice 90% of his role.
Really enjoying this game so far, recommend the Russian voice acting over English
For someone who is “taking it seriously” they sure do forget a lot of key moments and obvious plot and gameplay points.
Crispy critters southpaw is still salty about terriers
I've heard that he got so angry on Twitter, he ended up in a hospital with a stroke...
You could say his critters are still crispy regarding Terriers.
@@Kernwadi really?
@@grandarkfang_1482 lol
@@RebornVengeancex He puts blame on something else, but looking at his outburst, this seems more than plausible.
Honestly my favorite EFAP on the last while, the banter is really good, the topic is interesting and the ramblings where amazing.
Atomic Heart, we will forget them!
You an I, tonight!
You may forget the glitches you gave,
We will forget last night.
When you have done, pray tell us
That when our thoughts may dim;
Haste! Lest while you are lagging.
we may remember them!
The only Crispy Critters I care about is usually right before me eating them.
Considering in Russian he said "fucking pies" you can actually eat them.
Rags is that friend that is never ever wrong.
Also called a narcissist
he's the dunning kruger friend, barely knows just enough to get by and seem smart but completely blunders if pressed on anything. he's good at explaining the what, but would crumble if asked to explain the why. what do you expect, he's a furry reaction youtuber lmao
SFO - I liked the fridge, because it made me laugh and was unexpected. It's unlikely to ever appear in other western games, so that added a bit of extra novelty for me. I enjoyed it.
Mauler - That's a lame reason to like it
What a cringe response, lol.
"You like it for a reason that I can't relate to, therefor it's lame" wtf hahaha
this argument is not-so-distantly related to the Poop Cactus argument.
a Poop Cactus is unique and difficult to create. that does not make it good or worthwhile in and of itself.
In all the Halo games, master chief should be able to remove his helmet, just to pay homage to the glory that was the TV show.
When Rags says "Nobody would get off to this", he's immediately wrong. There's someone out there.
Talking about modifying ini files took me straight back to C&C Tiberium Sun
Here me out:
Atomic Heart 2 has you starting off in the kollective as P-3 and with the assistance of your robot wife you escape it.
That's likely very close to the actual sequel they are working on.
@@Pmurder3 You predicted the plot of first DLC...
Why am i having flashbacks to a 90s cereal called crispy critters? Is that a thing?
Yes, but it dates back to the 60s. I remember loving that cereal.
Did no one have a problem with the small subtitles? I feel like that would be a major issue
1:10:04 "'Ёб твою мать' is one of the worst things you can say in Russian."
You underestimate our power, Indigo!
I'd say it's rather tame, in comparison to other swears because at least ёбтвоюмать has normal non-swearing words in it.
32:45 Publisher =/= Developer
The Sherlock Holmes games were made by a different studio than the Plague Tales.
Also, I don't remember the dialogue in the SH games being bad... but I haven't played them in a while. 🤔
I wanted to see the coven go on epic quests, but we get green baby bedshitter instead...
The Critters are crispy, but are they massive?
UE5 was in early release when UE4 was still getting updates, so quite a few UE5 features made it into the last 2 versions of UE4. You can get a lot of the same look in UE4, it's just all prebaked lighting instead of realtime. UE5 right now is pretty much UE4 with a lot of geometry efficiencies, realtime GI and soft shadows, etc added on top.
Welp, on my way to play BioShock for the first time
The Patrick Klepic refference was great
I’m convinced now that these guys have the combined skill of an IGN reviewer 😂

EFAP movies should do the Revolutionary Girl Utena Movie. It is WILD and hilarious. The English dub is just a little cringey, which adds to the fun.
It was one of my favorite movies to break out at parties without context because it’s just so “WTF IS GOING ON”
It's like this game was made for Rule 34
Fringy, Korobeiniki IS Russian. That's why it feels Russian.
Seriously, who rights a character so stupid that they throw away the mcmuffin because they don't want to get nagged anymore?
50:24 I would introduce you sir, to Shadow Complex
Neither ending is a "good" ending. They're both bad in different ways.
@@grandarkfang_1482 I agree to an extent, but you'll have to elaborate because the way I see it there's a big difference between "certain doom" and "a fighting chance".
charles slinks off in ending one so he could have tried to enact his plan by himself as a polymer goo
I disagree. Option 1 is the good ending.
@@Yusuke_Denton Except for the part where it's the bad ending.
The Tetris movie looks great. March 31st on Apple TV.
Crispy Critters should be illegal...
@Hostmann Socrates This tables my turns...
IDK. I remember being interested in playing it, then deciding not to and hearing bad things about it. huh.

45:30ish The jRPG thing was a really interesting topic. I wonder if it's better or worse now!

The only time I liked/felt QTE’s fit was in the God of War games when he has to life something really heavy like a door or whatnot. It helps sell the weight of the object but also how strong he is.
