I have a 2000 Ford e350 super duty extended cargo van 5.4L 330Cu. In. V8 GAS SOHC Naturally Aspirated. it got broken into and they tried to steal it and damaged the airbag. I looked on Ebay for a used one but they keep showing me airbags for EXPEDITION. I typed in the information for my vehicle at first it say it fits my vehicle, then when I click on the sellers page, it say on top of image to the left
"This item doesn't fit", but when I scroll down to the Compatibility list, my vehicle is listed in the Compatibility list of vehicles. Do you know where I can get a fair priced airbag for my vehicle ?

Please see my previous response- Not saying they break down at all. I am just very disappointed in the engine as I had high hopes for them when they came out in 2011. The cylinder bore distortion issues, tuliped valves, way too many coolant leaks, some oil consumption issues on the rear cylinders, ignition coil bolts that rot and break (unacceptable in this day and age), valve cover bolts that rot and are miserable to remove mainly 11-14 models, the embarrassing tapping knocking noises all of these make, they have a stamped oil pan and elastomeric gasket just like the 5.4L (which never ever leak) yet the 5.0L leaks like crazy and soak the underside of the engine (why is this even happening, again very disappointing), I am not impressed with the power I think they are a dog (maybe I am used to the EcoBoost power) except the mustang calibrations and 21+ are much better. Also, you do know about the bucket load of major issues with the 2018-2020 models right? I am hoping the cylinder deactivation and wet oil pump belt on the 21+ models are not another disappointment in the future. There may be other concerns I cannot think of right now. Now do you understand my point of view? Oh and almost forgot about the IMRC issues on the 15+ models (again I have never even had to diagnose an IMRC concern on the 5.4L 3v)

Yes, I understand your point of view. And I think very highly of you. You’ve saved me loads of time and money on my Triton and my Coyote and I sure appreciate it. My limited perspective is my ‘17 Coyote with 120k has only needed a (very accessible) new water pump that was $95 and I couldn’t be happier. I may just go with an ecoboost like you down the road though if all this new stuff they’re starting to do with the new coyotes starts reducing it’s great reliability track record.

I have a 2018 F-150 5.0. At 35,000 miles, my front hub bearings went out. At 39,000 miles, the short block and transmission were both replaced. The block had a gouge and the number four-cylinder and losing over 3 1/2 quarts of oil in 3000 miles. The transmission had a major catastrophic failure and was stuck in seventh gear. All was replaced under factory warranty. The dealer had it for about seven weeks. Now it’s at 72,000 miles and I just paid it off. I will be selling it in a couple months.

I am new to your channel & I'm glad I ran across your channel 👍🏻. Last June 2023 I purchased a 2006 Ford F150 XLT Super Crew with the 5.4L Triton V8. I have heard the horror stories of the spark plugs breaking off in the head and the placement of the secondary blower motor under the intake manifold and it going out. So far the truck has been great but I am just about at 90k and I know the timing chains have to be replaced between 85k to 120k, the cost here at the dealership is $2700! I'm an old time car & truck owner so this is a 1st for me. That's a lot of money but I can see why now, after just replacing the oil and filter 🤪😆 what a freaking nightmare! No room to work and I don't have a ramp. I will have to scour your channel for my truck 🤞👍🏻 thanks for all the hard work and great vids.

@@FordTechMakuloco Thank you for replying and noting - "Not saying they break down at all" - as well as clarifying the reasons for your comments as I respect your opinion. I hear you with regard to the annoying "mostly" non major failure issues you listed. Working on these engines day in and day out, i agree, it's a lot. The similar non major failure issues with GM's 5.3 snapping exhaust manifold bolts, oil usage, misfires, intake issues etc. etc. again brings me to GM's scary displacement on demand failure rate. I'm pretty sure GM used a 3rd party company out of California for their newer DOD setup. I too truly hope that Ford's in house cylinder deactivation setup on the newer Coyote's holds up better. I hate the fact that the government pushes car companies to have to design these systems for CAFE regs, upping the complexity of the engines for tiny gains but these are the times we live in I guess. Now I understand your point of view.

@@FordTechMakulocoI’m surprised you think it’s underpowered. I’ve seen videos of the newer 5.0s beating the 3.5 eco in drag races or at least staying right there with it. The 1st gen F-150 5.0 makes 360hp which is 5 more HP than the current 5.3 from GM which I think is pretty amazing considering it’s a smaller displacement than the 5.3.

The 5.0 is tuned to be lazy from the manufacture until you pop it into sport mode. I think people get used to the eco boost power and how quick the engine spools the turbo giving that low range torque sooner while coyotes make all their power higher up in the band

My 2020 F150 5.0 just rolled 90k and so far it’s been great. I had oil consumption issues but luckily the TSB fixed it. It might use less than a quarter of a quart in 5k miles. It is noisy though, mainly the VCT rattle on deceleration when cold. Ford calls for 5w20 in the 18-20 5.0s, but I’ve been running Amsoil 5w30 in it since the second oil change, it definitely helped with the oil consumption and noise.

Brian may not like this engine but I do. We have three 5.0's in our family. My fiancé's 2017 F150, her son's 2014 F150 and my 2014 Mustang GT. Her son's truck has around 260,000 miles on it and did have to have a timing job done at 190,000 miles but that has been it. Her truck has 51,000 miles on it with no coolant leaks or issues. My Mustang has 36,000 miles on it and no coolant leaks or issues. The 3.5 Ecoboost seems to have way more issues than these engines do.

Trust me when I say, the engineers HATED these Quick Connects. ONE company making them, and we are CERTAIN they were a high ranking executives family. They were also added because the UAW assembly workers were screwing up time and again on the assembly. Multiple times not pulling grenade pins, not having the hose positions properly, not , etc...and all complaining of "Repetitive Motion Injuries". The Degas bottle they went back to the supplier at least 20 times when I was there screaming about the ultrasonic weld being weak. I believe that supplier lost a bunch of business on that (no new programs, charge backs, etc). Problem is, hundreds of thousands of parts in the wild before many of the issues found.

This is a very off topic question but no one really seems to know the answer so I figured to ask you since you are a very knowledgeable ford technician. My question is, do you know what causes the valve spring failures on the 6.2l engines? I have seen them from pretty much any year with these issues but many people claim they are not common. What I want to know is if these valve springs are failing due to lack of maintenance or excessive engine idling or just constant beating on the engine like foot to the floor? I have heard these engines are fairly reliable but the valve spring failures concern me. Thanks!

Been watching you for years and you absolutely make some of the best videos on here! But your take on the 5.0 is where I strongly disagree. Not that I’m any expert, but the 5.0 is far from underpowered and strides ahead of the Ecoboost/5.4l in tech, power, reliability, and durability. I’ll take some rusty valve cover bolts and coolant leaks from mostly easy to replace parts over timing jobs, roller follower issues, turbo issues, oil pressure issues, etc any day. Regardless though, appreciate your videos as always and can’t thank you enough for all the times you saved me thousands in my old 5.4l!

    • @thetypicalhomeowner6006

Thanks so much for answering my comment! I had a feeling the issues ran way deeper than what you got into in the video as far as just coolant leaks and such and I hope a lot more people read your response because it makes a lot more sense to why you view the 5.0l with so much disappointment. I know the 18-20 2nd gen coyotes were really REALLY bad but from what I’d heard I always thought the first gen coyotes were fairly reliable. And I always figured I’d rather deal with coolant leaks and such as opposed to phaser and timing issues. I appreciate you opening my eyes to some of the issues that aren’t talked about with the 5.0l outside of coolant leaks. I wouldn’t mind seeing more videos discussing issues with the 5.0l since Ford still makes them and they’re starting to get a lot older now (even tho I know you’re career is mostly in the 5.4l)
PS. I’ve religiously watched your content since 2017 when I performed my first timing job on an 04 f-150. Your videos saved me big time when I almost got aftermarket phasers so thank you. Keep up the great content and appreciate all the info you share.

Perhaps your are correct as you work on this stuff all the time but from a consumer’s perspective, it cost less to fix a coolant leak than: replace a turbo or an entire engine, 2023 NHITSA has expanded the 2.7L EcoBoost engine failures, amongst many others, not to mention in Europe 1.0 & 1.6 liter EcoBoost engine failures. The failures are well documented with ALL EcoBoost engines Stateside and in Europe. The fact is EcoBoost has the most reported failures, it’s an enormous problem for Ford and it’s not going away any time soon. Ford has so many class action lawsuits regarding 1.5L, 1.6L, or 2.0L Ford EcoBoost engines, not a single EcoBoost is problem-free in the line up no other engine manufacturer/OEM has this problem that Ford has. If you have a good one you have won the lottery!

18-20 models have known widespread mechanical defects that maintenance will not fix. You got very lucky so I would hold onto it.

Thanks @FordTechMakuloco for your information! Off subject question. I have a 2017 F150 5.0 with 90k miles. Been ran with 5w20 semi-synthetic its whole life. Should i swap to a 5w30 full synthetic to assist in the valve train noise which has gotten slightly more noisy the higher mileage it has gone? Thanks!

Please do a video on why you think the gen 3 is junk compared with the 2.7 & 3.5 eco boost.
    I’m shocked by this statement.

Really, a quick google search will have you reading all day it’s so widespread.

This is the first time I’ve ever truly questioned your judgement. You are entirely correct on the leak issues. Horrible and inexcusable. But the 5.0L??? Dude, you are out of line. 1000 times better engine than a 5.4l. 100 times better engine than the 3.5l. In my opinion, probably the best engine Ford has put into a pickup in a very long time. And I’ve owned several of each of the three engines I just named. For both work and personal. The 5.0l has hands down been the lowest cost of ownership yet. My opinion only.

Also one of the few modern engines that can tolerate abuse. Known several 5.0 F150 that have absolute minimal maintenance but keep trucking, 200K +

Not saying they break down at all.

I have a 2012 F-150 Lariat 4x4 5.0 engine with 145,275 miles. I am planning on driving from Houston, Texas to Phoenix, Arizona. This will be my first time driving my truck this far. I had the following things completed within the last four years.
    Transmission oil changed
    Differential oil changed
    New radiator
Radiator upper & lower hoses changed
    Thermostat housing changed
    Coolant hose changed
    New coolant
    Purge valve changed
    Serpentine belt changed
    New brake pads
    Rotors resurfaced
    Oil changed every 6 months
    New water pump
    New headlights
    New rear shocks
Spark plugs changed at 116,000 miles
    New rims & tires.
What would you recommend that I should take care of before my trip?

This is off-topic, but what are the most common reasons why my 2022 F150 2.7 has a slow response time at acceleration, low power & rough idle. Occasionally runs good, but most of the time, it's not so good. On the highway it run great. In town is my problem. Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you
By the way, my dealer says everything is normal.😵‍💫
