Come to Germany where landing on grass is the rule for miost of the smaller airfields. So for us it's normal, something like 2,500 ft length, even for twins.
Kris I listen to ATC at BWI, live 5 miles away. There is an approach fix on final for runway 10 that is named SPLAT. Sounds bad when I hear direct Splat. I think heaven is better although splat will probably get you to heaven too. Just sayin. Nice grass landing though. Thanks for the ride. Stay healthy you two.
Another awesome video, guys! I’m glad you’re able to escape the lockdown long enough to get in an awesome flight. I love grass strips. I had an old ‘46 Champ for years and seeking out new turf made for some of our favorite weekends.
All these haters on here with..,,hold the nose up....don’t say traffic advise! What the heck is wrong with you. He’s not claiming to be showing flight instruction. Even though the thoughts went through my mind I enjoy the content of this channel. Thank you Baron pilot and Kim for the great videos!
Thank you. As the title says it was my first time landing on grass and as you mentioned I am sharing my experiences not teaching. Now one of the perks of editing my videos is I get to go back and critique myself which is a great tool. But I have learned there will always be keyboard warriors quick to fire shots. Naturally they are the same “experts” that don’t have a single video up. So I’ve learned to have thick skin and laugh them off. Thanks for watching 🍻
Another interesting video Chris and your co-pilot is getting proficient in handling that craft! Keep them coming - especially during this time where we are starving for content! Thanks again!
Been on a few Grass Strips over my flying career, but only one time in a Baron B55! Moog used to have a grass runway to the East Side of their Plant in Elma, NY but bigger airplanes and Plant growth across that runway curtailed that effort in the late 70's!
awesome , i thought their is no flying this days ?? Maaaaan i miss flying i was in Daytona Beach 1999 i did my PPL and IR there , cant wait to come back
Got my multi in a Aztec, 2200 foot asphalt strip, but almost always landed in the grass. Runway 15/33 trees on the 33 end and a small overpass on the 15 end. That was in 1971 or 2. I still pass my physical and still manage to poke a hole or 2 in the sky. The new generation of NAV/COM and auto pilots would have been thought of as MAGIC in 1962 when first started learning to fly.
Nice landing! Now that you have mastered soft field landings you should fly up to our field here in Hagerstown IN (I61) sometime. At 4000’x200’ it is longest/widest and SMOOTHEST grass runway in the country. Stay safe and healthy guys!
Very amusing, finding it difficult to find a grass strip :-). In the UK all of the airfields I visit are grass, some are just farmers fields, last time I landed on tarmac was in 2015, Sky Manor NJ USA. I have to say I wish our grass strips were as smooth as the one you just landed at, I dont think we have tarmac that smooth. !! Great landing !
Had that same thing happen with flight following to a private airport in the NC mountains. Not in the ATC database. Used a nearby airport and then I asked then to track me until I canceled flight following when I had the airport in sight.
Baron and Baroness. Enjoyed the video from a technical perspective. The camera on the underside gives a unique view not often seen. How are you able to shoot from behind your heads looking forward where you can see out the window, but the camera’s iris does not sense overexposure causing the iris to close and the instrument panel looking underexposed? In contrast to other youtubers, your footage from this angle is well balanced. I did not realize you had an Avidyne unit in your panel. I am going to have to look that up. It would interesting for you to show the Foreflight route planning and then the upload process prior to engine start. Thanks again. Patrick from Albuquerque
Very nice video, I love the dynamic with you and Kim. I’m starting to persuade my wife to get hands on with our Mooney. We will be starting with radio work, and continue from there. And we’ll capture it all on video as well!
Nice vid, like always. I remember the first time I landed "on grass"... it was at... umm... we were diverted from... umm... it was sometime in the evening... about... crap, I can't remember. Sorry. Is there anything to eat around here? ;)
Nice flight Kris. Glad you have a lot of videos canned for release at times like this. When do you expect to get you baby back? Is the virus lock down holding up the install? Nice greaser on the grass landing. Thanks for sharing
Now you're up near my "hood"! Maybe we will meet up at an FBO one day. Flying out of KSFB in a Cirrus SR20. See you in the sky! Picked up a Cessna 150 at Weirsdale (Leesburg area) on a grass strip and that was a blast. Had me and Vern't fat butts squeezed into that thing. See you around! Cheers!
Hope you get a chance to visit the new FBO building there at KOCF, @FlyingSic would have fun with the statues airside. Hope you both enjoyed your visit at Leeward.
The city Kim was asking about as they flew over it was The Villages. It is a master planned community for people 55 and over. About 125,000 people live there so that explains why Kim thought there were a lot of houses.
Now that was the nicest runway I've ever seen! Would love to live next to that - how awesome would that be?! Endless length to that one. I'd be tempted to take my '74 RD350 down that to see what she'll do on the GPS. Neighbors would probably hate me pretty quick ... 😁 Great stuff as usual, Kris & Kim! Nice "grasser greaser" there! We're getting anywhere between 4"-7" of snow tonight up here. 😟😵🤯 Then, 60° on Sunday! Welcome to MA, lol.
If I was not already familiar with the field’s condition, I absolutely would have. But I was meeting someone so I had a report on the field and it’s reputation.
To anyone who knows: As you step into the aircraft, I see the black non slip covering on the control surface. Is it ok to step on there, or is that portion fixed? I see they didn't step on it. Edit: Ok, I see it's movable, part of the flaps. Surprised you can step on it.
Private pilot is “Maintain altitude ±200 feet, heading ±20°, and airspeed ±10 knots.” Commercial is “Maintain the selected altitude ±100 feet and heading, ±10°”
Ok I’ll certainly take your word for that. My instructors were very strict on maintaining altitude in both VFR and IFR. I enjoy your videos very much. My flying has been over for several years now so I appreciate seeing how things are being done today.
I looked it up to be sure. Lol But I agree with your instructors, always hold yourself to higher standards. Sorry to hear your flying is over but I’m glad you are able to still enjoy flight through my videos.
How are You able to fly during the Pandemic? Was this before the restrictions?Resaon I ask I saw all those commercial airplanes at Punta Gorda airport. Great Landing....
If the girl held her camera phone sideways with lens up, it would give her much better videos. (no black bars on the side) I noticed when you were landing she was taking video. Great videos, watch you all the time!
Like always excellent video, love it !!! by the way I would like to ask you something, are you guys not applying social distancing in this pandemic of covid 19? please be careful health is first. You guys take care.
Nice Video. Tip: Refer to Non towered airports Communication AIM 4-1-9 Para g "Pilot Stating Traffic in the area, please advise" is not a recognized Self-Announce Position and/or intention phrase and should not be used under any condition. Thanks for the entertaining videos. Good grass fields really help make the landing Smooooooth? D.R. Carew ATP, CFII, MEI
It was not intended to be a position report. However if anyone was in the pattered or monitoring the channel from a base station, they could advise on the winds and/or the active runway and save me from flying over the neighborhood to view the windsock to determine the active runway only to enter the pattern. It’s a simple technique that keeps the neighbors happy.
@@BaronPilot That phrase was one of my CFI's biggest pet peeves. - haha - We weren't flying into private grass strips, though, but rather relatively busy (though uncontrolled) GA fields where there was usually traffic on frequency and there was also an AWOS to get the current weather. I can see it being more useful for the reasons you mentioned if there's no AWOS/ASOS around.
This video was filmed a few moths back. If you happened to catch my video a few weeks back, the Baron is currently in the avionics shop getting upgrades. But to your point, flying would not be any different then driving in your car.
Kim are you around to help and assist Barron pilot as he uploads and edits the videos much the same way as when you assist while up in the air with the flying ?And for example did Barron Pilot upload this one right away the same day or does it take weeks days to get it done?I know he has told us that he has a job at a TV station and fly's a small jet which may limit his time requiring your help.
Florida has it’s own rules. ATC basically clears you Odd altitude if you’re flying North & Even if you’re flying south. Think it’s because most traffic here is N/S
Shows what a Yankee from Ohio knows! I flew my RV12 to Marco in February and March and wondered why ATC flight following would assign unexpected altitudes for the direction of flight (assuming I could get flight following out of Marco from Ft. Myers until well north of Naples due to the airline and bizjet traffic.
NOTHING compares to the joy of landing on grass. Well, perhaps water, but you can only do that once in the Baron...Take care you two.
Dale Smith 👋🏻
Great landing on that grass strip!
Awesome baron pilot, as you know avation 101 always practice it too. Hope you have a part 2 , departing the grass runway.

You are doing great Kim! That’s a lot of technology and airplane to be learning on. Salute!

BP, great video, I just watched the video again of you’re long legged flight, stretching range. I think you did a great job, had plan B and C.
That was awesome! Thanks for the ride along!

Beautiful soft field landing.
Particularly enjoyed this video, as my son and grandchildren live in Ocala. I want this virus stuff over so I can come see them again.

use to tower sailplanes out of a 3000 foot grass and my 150 on the 2200 foot grass . grass is great
Kris, great job landing!!! Would you call that a squeeker? Man, those are some awesome homes!!! I want to live at a place like that!
Great landing. Would be nice to see the take off as well.
Is this Leeward ranch of famous Allison Leeward? Did you meet her?
The landing was awesome. Great job. Hi Kim !

What a gorgeous day to fly! 😁
Is 3000’ grass possible in a baron ? Also I’m enjoying the windshield shade I ordered from the store. I never noticed it in all the videos
I have not run the numbers but I believe so. Glad you are enjoying the windshield jet shade!
That landing was a greaser. That grass runway looked smoother than some asphalt runways. A good looking video, and a great looking co-pilot!!
Love grass landings...much smoother on a manicured runway
I live 5 miles from runway 36 at KOCF. If I knew that you were going by I would have gone outside and waved.
7:45 320 knots vertical speed requirement seems kind of excessive... 320 fpm seems a little more reasonable, though. :)
vbscript2 🤣
Really nice! I love to fly--however my flying is now limited to a MS Flight Simulator. Oh, I do learn quite a bit from your videos.

One question ... did you do a low approach to examine the condition of the field first, recognizing that videos are edited.
If I was not already familiar with the field’s condition, I absolutely would have. But I was meeting someone so I had a report on the field and it’s reputation.

Paul Santos it’s designed to be stepped on but we choose not to if possible since it’s a moveable part 😃
My recollection is that altitude plus or minus 100 feet for private pilot VFR and plus or minus 50 feet IFR. I could be wrong of course.
Private pilot is “Maintain altitude ±200 feet, heading ±20°, and airspeed ±10 knots.” Commercial is “Maintain the selected altitude ±100 feet and heading, ±10°”

Nice video, Very useful!
Did someone show you around Leeward? If not, come back and I will give you a tour! What happened to Kim’s arm?
Great landing, nice video.👍
On course heading 005. Not 050. I've done that same thing.
Like always excellent video, love it !!! by the way I would like to ask you something, are you guys not applying social distancing in this pandemic of covid 19? please be careful health is first. You guys take care.
If they are quarantining together in the same house then I wouldn't think their personal social distancing would matter at all in the airplane.
