Really? I never heard of any problem, what happened?
Something about the way shane so elegantly captured the shifting culture of "girlboss" like he was writing an essay just got me

as a 16 year old female representative of gen z, we accept shane as one of our own.
not trolling but isn't the word 'female' kind of offensive now? or is that just when guys say it
@@aa-cx8nc (sorry for broke english :S )
For me the Word "female" isn't ofensive as long as is used correctly "male and female" bcause those are correct terms , but it is quite annoying when people used like "MEN and FEMALE" is just deshuminazing women idk if i explained well
@@aa-cx8nc i-
@@aa-cx8nc It's generally not. However, from what others have commented: when used in place of any other female-denotative noun, it may come off as strangely formal or even derogatory to some (ex: "hey female!" or "some females at work").
Shane was absolutely on point with girlboss, it's insane.
Only thing that could've made it better was mentioning MLMs
they MADE RYAN read a tweet with the word girlboss IN IT and he still didn't get it...
When I think of girlboss I think of mlms so yeah negative
Only thing missing is that I feel we kinda circled back to using it in an (albeit ironic) positive way? Like how someone can be clearly manipulative and on the wrong side but in a funny/quirky way, and people will support that by saying like "idk that's kinda girlboss of her".
@@LuceOhsure oh yeah lol, I know came into the know of girl boss was from mlms promotion of take control of your life do it how you want too, but you won't make money at all because there's people better than you here

"YOU DON'T EVEN REMEMBER 9/11?"
this is always strangely the first thing millennials say to gen z when they tell us their age
It goes the other way too. After not seeing my Gen Z cousin for years one of the first things he said to me was, "So are you old enough to remember 9/11?"
I am pretty sure that is why he said it lol because He Knows
Ngl 9/11 was traumatic and idk it is always my first thought when someone uses 2000 as a birth year
It's the defining moment that separates Gen Z from millennials. Also my phone tried to autocorrect Gen Z to Gen X.
I was born a few years after it lol
I think any of the beaver ones would be more likely to catch on because us Gen Z generally love things for the absurdity of it. Using a beaver to represent any of those phrases would definitely do it 😂
yeah I felt the beaver one, that sounds like exactly something we'd do
Same. Ryan should've won that one imo
The "not like other girls" is just one trope of the "pick-me girl" and isn't a characteristic of every pick-me girl. Like Shane said, it's the tryhard type, who wants to stand out in some way and tries too hard to achieve it and ends up being obnoxious.
exactly that’s what i was thinking
but pick me girl involves putting down other women in order to stand out, you can be obnoxious without being a pick me, but if you think you’re not like other girls by standing out then you’re pick me
Nah I think the pick me girl's main characteristic is that they're trying too hard with the boys, like, in a romantic way. They're trying to present themselves as 'not like other girls' and put down other girls because they have ulterior motives. If anything I would say the pick me girl is a subsection of the "not like other girls" girl. The latter just wants to stand out and feel unique and superior in general while the former wants to appear unique and special in order to attract boys
@@idek7438 that's what I got from it. The pick me girls want guys to choose them and find them attractive. The not like other girls are more of the type of girl who thinks she's one of the guys and acts like she's above other girls because she gangs with guys as friends.
I would say yes but it’s that behavior specifically used to gain the attention/admiration of men by putting other women down
Shane got the ✨✨ right wth it was literally what she said grandma was ✨pristine✨
Yea, I don't understand why he got it wrong.
she kept wanting it to be specific, kinda annoying ngl they all kinda got a few bruh
@@nanielul3812 I don't know how more specific Shane could have been tbh. He hit it right on the nail.
with the sparkle one i thought it would be the ironic definition its come to mean like I cant talk to people because of ✨social anxiety ✨
@@iman1246 Yeah I also use it more for sarcasm and stuff, didn't know people used it in a positive way lol. It reminds me of the spongebob imagination meme, I also used that more in an ironic way when it was popular.
I honestly think the beaver is more realistic, because gen z slang more often comes from a single point of internet history and isn’t necessarily “logical” or point a to b thinking. Like if someone used a beaver emoji in a super funny way it would catch on but people rarely use emojis with their literal meaning such as dunking someone into the trash
Shane’s energy in this is ✨immaculate✨
He's so right that "manifesting" is not exclusively a Gen Z thing.... that's literally been a thing long before Gen Z.
Yes, I've heard people in their late 40s use it
It was everyone's mom in 2006 after reading 'The Secret'.
same with "endgame" - that's not Gen Z slang, that's just fandom slang that's been around forever lmao
yeah that kinda upset me tbh, manifesting has been around for so long
I think they're putting anything they often see younger people online saying as gen z slang. "Pick me" wasn't created by generic kids online, it's AAVE created and used by black Americans, that other people online started using
Shane: (writes an essay using halter top as an example)

Also, can we get a series where Shane picks a random word from a hat and then creates an entire cinematic universe out of it? I think that would be amazing.
not to mention she referred to all of them as 'mosquitos' when two of them are crickets like wtf
I immediately understood the bug emojis when a friend of mine who’s a few years younger than me casually used them without explanation. To me, it’s a pretty obvious visual, but apparently that’s not true for everyone?
Voting in favour of using the beaver emoji though, I loved all possible meanings. Just imagine situations in which multiple meanings could apply, the amount of ambiguity, ✨delicious✨!

why is no one talking ab shane’s handwriting… it’s literally perfect 😭
As Gen Z I do not think we own the word manifesting its literally a word we all use
I dont think that's what simone meant by us using manifesting as gen z slang bc most gen z dont use "manifesting" literally, it's used more sarcastically now so I think she meant like how it's being used not us literally coming up with the word

I'm used to Main Character Syndrome being used differently. Like when someone keeps having large life events and making advancements quickly or even in negative contexts where they have "character development" from large bad events.
this shows why shane is so memeable
I don't think "go touch some grass" is necessarily only for people online, I'd also give the point to Shane.
I also thought it meant: "You need to stop being so thirsty. Go touch some grass."
@@rolllikeabuffalo9439 I think that's one of the meanings. I have always interpreted it as "you're doing way too much, go touch some grass or something." Like maybe being online for too long, or like you said, or anything else that you're doing similarly.
I personally think of it more like "you are so out of touch with reality, go touch some grass" and I think it fits the narrative when someone says some stupid unrealistic shit and/or argues about it.
yeah it really just means "reality check"
I think it's used when someone is getting sucked into an Internet argument to an unhealthy degree. Normally about something that doesn't matter at all IRL too, or something very insignificant
I’m apart of gen z and I seriously didn’t know half of these.
I don’t know if I should feel extremely embarrassed or just be relieved
I need an episode of this but with tumblr slang. Ryan and shane both give off tumblr user vibes, i wanna see them all guess what bug ass (🐜🍑) means.
People still use tumblr in this day and age?
Steven using the first few answers to roast Ryan for betraying the Professor is GOLDEN
Claiming that the definition of “manifesting” is a Gen Z thing is a very Gen Z thing to do.
Had to comment on that myself... irked me, to say the least. Lol.
it's chronic online-ness at work, like when brittany broski made the unfortunate comment that AAVE was "stan twitter language"
Yeah…manifesting is a pretty old concept (dating at least as far back as the early 19th century new age/spiritualist movements). I stopped using the word because I realized the concept doesn’t align with my personal religious beliefs and I also did not want to encroach/appropriate another religion/belief system.
Yeah it’s been around but it’s definitely more popular now and among gen z
@@charminsi i mean... it's evidently a bullshit concept anyway.

I THOUGHT THE ACCENT WAS FAMILIAR N NOW I KNOW WHY
As a millennial, the best thing about Gen Z slang is that you can understand almost all of it just by having some context. That's probably a product of it spreading via the internet, but it's so much easier to figure out Gen Z slang than, say, 1950s slang even if you were given equal amount of context for both.
I think recency also plays a huge role, as a millennial you've got a huge amount of context baked in and shared between gen z that you don't with folks from the 50s.
A lot of gen Z slang is rephrased or recycled 2008-2015 internet slang which originated with young gen x and millennials so not that surprising we can piece it together.

as a gen-zer, i have to say i liked ryan’s emoji more lmao
if Ryan had stuck with one meaning, I'd agree
but having four very different examples was too much
I think it was too abstract to be jn the true spirit of gen z Ngl. Many emojis are used based on what they look like but not what they symbolise, and not really wordplay based on that. E.g. standing man emoji and Easter Island emoji. I could see it as a euphemism because internet things, but the other definitions weren't really great imho
