No one can beat the interpretation of the song Alegria in the voice of singer Francesca Gagnon... the original version has already acquired its own identity, whether due to its vocal style, pronunciation, accent and even the sensitivity and emotion given to the song by the Canadian artist.
I'm 29 and can agree that the song must not be altered. The voice of Francesca is what made everything so captivating. Something you can relate it to is the theme song of Star Wars. Everyone knows it, every one loves it, everyone knows what it means. DON'T CHANGE IT. :)
Remaking Alegria is like remaking Gone With The Wind. Francesca Gagnon and the original Fleur can never be replaced. They were truly magical.

Saw Algeria when I was a little kid, can’t believe I can relive the experience again. I thought Elena Lev’s hula hoop performance was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed.

Checked out as soon as i saw they replaced her. Alegria is nothing more than a Francesca Gagnon concert to me. And she still sings.
I saw the show with Francesca when I was 5 years old and I’m 21 now. She’s the reason I fell in love with Cirque Du Soleil.
Elena Lev is one of the most amazing artists, I was lucky to see her in Nice, the whole show was simply breath taking. Oh and the singing.... goosebumps!
I love cirque du soleil and the new Alegria as it's described in this video is not bad at all but I have to say that the old music especially with the accordion had something so magic and beautiful that I cannot find in the new music. I also miss the old singers of Alegria and their voices. I didn't see the show live yet but I will and I hope so bad that seeing the new Alegria live will bring back the magic
Just watch the "hoops" video on this channel and you can compare Elena's acts then and now ... and the current one is FAR WORSE because of the choices of colour alone. Everything mixes together in a sea of PASTELs ... so you cant see the hoops moving anymore, because the background is LIGHT COLOUR ... and the air has lots of dust particles which creates a bit of a "fog" to make it less crisp.

I do agree with all of commentaries, the original Alegria was amazing, magical, it was what I always thought a circus should be like and always compared other circus shows to it and never came close to Alegria. I saw it when I was 10 years old I am now 38 and still remember the guy the made a tower with the chairs as he climbed to the top. That was the first time I ever felt a mixture of anxiety and excitement in my life, yet it made me fall in love with with music and cirque du soleil.
Alegria was my first Cirque du Soleil experience, it has always held a special place inside my heart and just reliving this again is breathtaking. I love the details they have put into this. ❤❤❤❤❤
I've seen 9 Cirque du Soleil shows so far and the original Alegria is, by far, my favorite. The voice of the original Singer in White is so magical. I was so excited to see the re-imagined version that was supposed to come to Austin, TX at the end of April. I'm sad that the show had to be canceled. I hope that it will be rescheduled.
Francesco Gagnon is her name and yes, I agree, she made the music so haunting and beautiful.

This show is very special to me. I discovered in 2013 when I was 12 years old, two months before to the end of the show. These seven years, my dream to the return of the show is done, and when I saw the news of the return of Alegria, I started to cry. Nowadays, I'm 19 years old, and I have the hope that this show visit Mexico and if this happens, I'm going to cry a lot. Cirque du Soleil you are my childhood Thanks for everything.

It haunted me (in a passionate way) for 20 years and randomly happened to be in Montreal July 2019. I was in shock when I saw a tent and the words ALEGRIA. It was a dream come true. I did not know it was there or that they were there because of their 20 year anniversary. It was literally pure MAGIC. I listen to it daily on Spotify when I am walking my 2 hours. It reaches my soul and changes my mood to a good mood and takes my stress away. THIS IS MAGIC.
The original Songs of this Show was the Heart of this show. If you screw with that you don't have Alegria. This is a completely different show.
I have to agree Robert. The beauty and charisma lies within the original format. Another point I've noticed is the characters (performers) smile far too much more aswell. In the original Alegria the sturn, emotionless performers added to its effortless
Its NOT a new show ... it is a show which PRETENDS to be "the old show" ... in a sense it is FAKE NEWS, a cheap knock-off ... which - if they had set out to create something original - would probably have been better. The RHETORIC OF "CREATIVES" to "modernise" / "adapt to today" / "todays perspective" or the granddaddy: "we need a new art style/new art" have been used for over a century to destroy or disregard the achievements of the past.

My wish is to see Alegria. I have been so fascinated with Cirque since my son introduced me to the show years ago and now I am introducing it to my grandchildren. Especially my 2 handicapped grandchildren. The shows are so beautifully crafted and the talent is phenomenal. Thank you so much for bringing such joy to this elderly woman.
I cannot wait for COVID to be over and be able to go to the arena to watch Cirque again.
I haven't seen Alegria live...ever. But I have the best memories of it. And I hope some day be able to see it live with my kid. Since he was a toddler we have enjoy Algeria together. Blessings from wonderful México.
Elena Lev is absolutely ageless. To have been the contortionist 25 years ago and not loose her edge or her flexibility in that time is amazing. I’m afraid of what training regimens she been doing to still be in that great a shape. She’s amazing.
My Fiancé and I went to see it in Houston two weeks ago and it was so amazing! He's Deaf and he loved how visual it was! He's never heard of Cirque du Soleil before but said he's a huge fan now ♡
How I wish my lil sister be alive, she introduced me to cirque du soleil with this show and see it coming back to life it’s emotional. She would be absolutely amazed like the first time she saw the show. Thank you for bring the magic back again and make me be closer to my sister spirit. 💗

Alegria has been my introduction to Cirque du Soleil. Saw the show last week and fell in love with everything, especially the music. I love singing along in the car. Fantastic work of art!

I am so happy that my family was able to see the show in Houston. My 10 year old kid is in love with the music and listens to Alegria song every night before sleeping. Memorable show! Simply beautiful.

Saw this in Houston, show right after got canceled due to corona, but it was absolutely amazing.
I love the video, but as a multimillion dollar company that is all about bringing entertainment and fun for all, please for the love of god Cirque, please get subtitles. You can shuffle out the money to make sure at least your workers who want to watch, can understand what everyone is saying! And my deaf friend who loves Cirque couldn't really understand without me, and even then I struggled to convey to them. Cirque, please get subtitles for the love of god!

I'm a huge fan of all things Cirque, but this show blew my mind. I've never seen anything more magical and incredible in my life! Hoping that Cirque will release In a New Light on DVD so I can keep watching it over and over!
As a huge fan of the original Alegria, and then seeing the show in Denver, CO, in the early 2000s, I had my doubts that Cirque could remake the show with fresh new ideas while keeping "true" to the original story (not that you had to remain true, but this old guy is sometimes resistant to change). After seeing them in July of 2022 in Portland, OR, I want to say that the people of Cirque pulled it off, and how! Some new acts, some changes, and some things that brought back the memories of the original. I am beyond impressed with the dedication and abilities of all the performers to bring a story to life and somehow at the same time they make me feel as though I am part of it. All of you at Cirque made this 57 year old man lose myself in the story for two hours and believe in the magic. Hats off to all for what you do each and every performance.

I have loved this music since the first time I heard it over 20 yrs ago but never saw it. I cannot get tired of it. When I am flying or having a stressful day it's one of my destress soundtracks. I cried like a fool when I saw it in 2019. Tears of Joy.

i saw alegria in tokyo harajuku in 1996 when i was 10, it was a hugh shock to me, i was overwhelmed, i fell in love. and especially i loved Elena Lev's performance. she was my idol at the time. i wanted to be like her. now i found out that she is still active, im am so happy.

Saw it in Miami and the whole family (direct relatives, grandparents, cousins, etc.) went for Christmas. We all loved it! The snow storm was my favorite scene.

Cannot wait to see this show. We were 2 days from seeing it in Houston when everything shut down. We saw the original many times on the Mississippi gulf coast and my children have grown up listening to the music. Our family has seen over a dozen Cirque shows and Alegria remains our favorite. The message of resilience and hope is even more important now than ever. Stay safe and know that there is a lot of love for you just waiting until we can all be together.
I performed solo clarinet for a Cirque du Soleil suite almost 10 years ago now, and Alegria was the opening song. The conductor for the concert band I played with debated whether to have someone sing. I know I was on that list for those who could do it. He ultimately decided against it, but I still think about the chance I had to sing such an iconic song. I was 13.

Alegria was the first Cirque show I saw and I have a great fondness for it - this remake appears marvelous ... I wonder when Guy Laliberté saw it ...and if those were his comments about the dark and the 1st act being slow ... LOL

I saw the show twice when I was 10 years old and loved it, though that makes it difficult to watch a remake: there's always something about the original. Specially the music: I've been listening the cd for almost a complete year now...
A lot of people hated the revision when it first came out without even seeing it live. I've seen both and I have to prefer the new one over the old. I'm not a big fan of the palette changes for the new show but my god the new acts and updated songs are amazing!!! If it comes back to Toronto, I would definitely see it again!
I've been a fan of Alegria for years- saw the original version live ten year ago, and will be seeing the new version later on this year. I'm so excited to see how the show has changed and evolved.

I've always loved cirque du soleil for decades and this is the first show I remember seeing, so I showed this to my 9month old daughter and i think she fell in love with it too.

I attended the original Alegria in Minnesota and was blown away. Especially loved the music (Francesca), Fast Track, etc... It was something I will never forget. Plus I purchased the DVD and renew my love for this performance every year.
The costumes were incredibly inventive, the people especially talented in what they excelled in. I loved most all of it except for the strong man and the fire baton twirler, was a bit lackluster after the previous acts. Just Beautiful and I didn't like any of the other performances like Quidam, etc. as much as Alegria which is probably why it is getting a remake.
I don't really understand why a remake is necessary but I will definitely go see it. Thank you to everyone that participated in the original Alegria, a wonderful cast of individuals with many talents.

I saw the show in its original version a number of years ago and to be honest, was not looking forward to an "updated" version. I saw the new version in Miami the day before it closed its run and was absolutely BLOWN AWAY with the entire show (though I was a bit disappointed in the updated music). I've seen over a dozen Cirque shows and this one is easily my most favorite of all of them.

It's amazing to see the backstory on how the show has changed over 25 years.
I first saw the original show on DVD (Which I own). Then first time I saw the show live was on February 27, 2010 and even then the show had some small changes from the original. I just saw this show again for the second time on March 7, 2020 and loved the new acts that have been added with the original acts!!!

Aw this is so beautiful and made me quite emotional. I’ve watched the original a few times on DVD and love it but this recreation looks awesome - I would love to see it.
I saw the original 25 years ago and to this day, the majesty and beauty of the show holds a special place in my heart. I was super excited to take my own kids now, today, but after seeing this video...I'm just not sure. Francesca Gagnon was a huge part of how I feel about the show - and why I bought the soundtrack decades ago and still own it - and the new singers just fall flat for me. I'm afraid seeing an "updated" version would ruin the memory I have of this show. Not everything has to be constantly swept away and made anew. It's okay to embrace tradition every once in awhile.

Some art is there to capture a moment in history. Other pieces are there to breathe and evolve. The performing arts is one such medium that can allow for malleable changes to take shape in a work. I'm very excited to see an updated revival, and that there can be room for both old and new to speak to the heart.
But also, Elena Lev is still awesome after all these years and I wonder what I've been doing with my life! 🤣
