Hard to stop isn’t it? Fun study. I saw many villages like that when I did a student trip to the Soviet Union. We travelled out away from Leningrad and Moscow and learned early on that not everyone in the Soviet Union is Russian! Many places had very different cultures and world view.
I like the idea of doing 15 min. studies. Sometimes I will jump into a painting, because something about the scene caught my interest. I need to decide first if it's a good composition, before I commit to a painting. Thank you for showing me I need to slow down and look for a great composition before putting all my effort into a large painting.
Awesome video Vlad! Loved the colors you used and will start using knife for blocking in! Watching many more of your videos and learning so much more than from other teachers!
Your second version is great. I treat the early stages of a painting as a very abstract expression, and when it works compositionally then it's time to add the details and hang the jewels (as Kathryn likes to say).
Hi thx for video vg, love the idea with 15 min studies, and directions etc , just wondering what size canvas are you using for studies? you have motivated me to get doing studys ,cheers
How do you know what initially color to use when you want to get the values correct? How do you know what colors to place on top of the values? I hv registered and enjoy your videos. Thk u
The colors and the values are two different things. The value is how dark or light is your mix, and the color is intensity of the hue of the color. I would recommend studying the values first. It is a very simple practice if you do it at least for 30 min each day. Convert any color image into black and white image, mix black and white and break it into 10 piles from black to white. Try to match it with black and white image. Than replace black with color and do the same. I will do a video about it
Please let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy this episode!
Another great video! Thanks 🙏🏻
Great save! I'll look forward to seeing the larger version of this image.
Yes, thank you. It has to get to my analyzing rack before I hit the big canvas.

Tutorial top. Brasil

Yes, I will make a video about my updated palette
Genial. Brasil
Daily work helps you to know that a failure isn’t the end of the world! As one artist said, “Another day another painting”😄
Lol… so true “another day, another painting”

Thank you Craig! I always recommend 9x12... not to big and not too small, and good for both palette and brush work.
