This also had a ripple effect on how African Americans were viewed. Hotels in some cases hired Pullman porters to work the concierge desk. Upper class guests had become accustomed to the men working on trains, in many cases doing concierge work, such as obtaining tickets to shows on Broadway for example. While of course not an overnight transformation, Pullman porters did change perceptions that African American men could do more than manual labor.
