    Wow thats a big cast distance ! I think the okuma 8k did the job to with that big cast ! Nice video

      Thanks. I believe the fury and the okuma surf 8k compliment each other quite well. I have had the Okuma Surf 8K for more than 6 months and had it paired with my really cheap rods and I couldn't even see a hint of metal from the bottom of the spool. For me, this rod just unlocked the reel's full casting potential.

    Just bought a fury 420 to pair with my surf 8k like yourself, unfortunately seems near impossible to get the shallow spool.
    Still if the combo can cast 100yrds I'm happy

      Have you wet the line with your combo yet? The shallow spool is definitely a unicorn now, just saw one on ebay for £935 but they did say they're waiting for stocks. Anyway, you can use monofilament backing for the time being. Let me know how you get on with it 👍 tight lines!

      @@x3mgrifter hi, iv just spooled with 15lb sufix tritanium and hope to hit the beach in the next few days.
      Are you still using the fury?.
      Thanks

    • @x3mgrifter
      @x3mgrifter  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I am still using the fury but have since paired it with the Penn Rival 6000LC reel which makes it a really light set up. Now I have the Okuma Surf 8K paired with the fury's older brother, Akios Hellrazor.

      @@x3mgrifter hi, I took the fury out for a few casts and found that 5oz weight was the sweet spot.
      I'm slightly concerned that 5oz and a bait might push the rod too far but I don't want to loose the good distance i got (120yrds).
      Can I ask what weight you use with a bait, say squidwrap.
      Thanks mate, appreciate the replys

      @@kevincarter4163 hi, definitely 5oz is the sweet spot for me, as well. But that equates to 4oz plus bait (i usually use 2 or 3 hook clipped down rigs with finger-sized baits + 4oz weight). I would go up to 5 oz if the wind or current is strong, but that's just my personal preference. I have heard other people using up to 6oz plus bait with the fury but I'd be too scared to try it. Might try the "power tip" in the future and see how it will cope. Tight lines!

    just checked out your earlier video, appears to have moderate action...I see some bend toward the middle.

    • @x3mgrifter
      @x3mgrifter  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, I would say this rod has a moderate to fast action, depending on the weight of the lead (+/- bait) and how you cast.

      I do slow action rods, for off the ground casting...doesn't seem to be many, or any on the market these days

    • @x3mgrifter
      @x3mgrifter  3 роки тому +1

      I have a Lineaffe Carbocast Special (rated up to 200 grams) that I will classify as a slow action rod. Even with a 110 grams lead, it feels like the rod is just absorbing my cast with the amount of bending that it does. I mostly do over-the-shoulder cast if there are people on my right side as I feel there's no other direction the lead can travel in case of crack offs other than towards the sea. So i prefer a fast action rod for that and this FX420 is just spot on for that up to 150 grams.

      @@x3mgrifter I think you guys have a much wider range of rods to choose from then we do. I was lucky, and very glad I did, buy 3 very light 13 foot pompano rods built some years ago that nobody really liked. They were spot on off the ground casters. And that was it. Most guys just bump cast,so the builder didn't do well. But boy, they are so easy on the shoulders.

    14ft isn't really continental is it.

      Hi @Richard Jones and thank you for your expert feedback.
      Here are just a few places where I gathered that this "14ft" rod is a continental rod:
      akios-superstore.co.uk/epages/eshop1251544.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eshop1251544/Products/%22FURY%20FX420%22
      britishseafishing.co.uk/equipment/continental-style-rods/ last sentence of the 3rd paragraph... "Today most manufacturers make a number of long Continental rods which are 14, 15 or even 16 feet or more in length."
      Here's a product list of "Continental Rods" from just a couple of online stores... all atleast "14ft" rods:
      www.gerrysfishing.com/product-category/sea-fishing/sea-rods/continental-rods/
      akios-superstore.co.uk/Akios-Continental-Fishing-Rods
      Here's a youtube video from FISHING with CJ where Glynn from Anglers Den said at 2:38 "... "Continental rods.. so that means 14-15 foot, 3-piece..."

      Anyway, thanks again for sharing your expertise.

    Man you ran out of line using that spool. Maybe it was too shallow for that braid diameter.

      honestly, aside from the fact that I'm quite positive it doesn't hold as much line as it's advertised, the wind was quite to my favor as it's blowing in the direction I was casting. :)
