Great insights as always gents. Electre was always going to be divisive being both an SUV and EV, but you are correct in your views that Lotus really didn't have choice when that's where the market, and by extension profitability lies. In the context of Electre's competition, BMW iX, Jag i-Pace, Mercedes EQC, Lotus have a genuinely viable alternative, and potential sales success on their hands, and as you noted, something that helps fund the fun stuff we want to see continue to be built. As the current custodian of an iX3 and a Elise 220 Sport, I can confirm that having a mix of both EV & ICE vehicles on the driveway, allows you to do the boring "day to day" driving in a socially responsible manner (EV), and gives you the opportunity to enjoy even more the joys of the ICE weekender!
Thanks Tony, I picked up our VW ID.4 yesterday and had the exactly same thought… quiet, comfortable, socially responsible driving for the boring stuff. Then a raw, loud, uncompromising experience for the 10% of my driving I actually look forward to. It’ll be interesting to see what living with an EV will actually be like (the range anxiety has already kicked in!), but I’ve got a suspicion we won’t go back to an ICE for our family car now.
It’s hard to get enthusiastic about any manufacturer making an SUV. I am thankful that I was able to get a new Elise. I expect Lotus will see some attrition of talented people.
Constructive conversation lads. My first Lotus is one of the last Elise 240’s. The Eletra is growing on me, however I’m probably more interested in a future sports sedan offering. Overall I agree with your sentiments. Cheers
Thanks David - great to meet you too and chew the fat over all the cars there. Will definitely be visiting again for a bacon butty so hopefully catch up again soon. Bring the Caravelle!
I’m pretty sure my mate with his 250 cup would be interested in meeting you guys so give me the heads up when you’re next going. He lives in Sheffield so may be up for other meets tomorrow or a guest appearance on your channel as he’s tracked his a few times over the last 12 months!
My very first (and last?) LOTUS is the 250 Cup FE & I must confess that I am not thinking by saving money to buy the Eletre, but the Emira could the one to consider , in a few years. The Emira Final Edition?
You want a sports car your whole life, it’s about passion You might need an SUV when your kids are between about 10yrs and 17yrs old, it’s about utility. I wish Lotus well in using this to make money, I still struggle with it but would’ve said same about Lambo and Ferrari. But where is the electric Elise, the light as possible small nimble fun electric sports car? If they don’t get onto it then they’ll get left behind e.g. Toyota electric MR2?
Agreed - the SUV is (as the name suggests) a utility vehicle and isn’t exactly the stuff of bedroom walls, but Lotus seem to have done a solid job nonetheless. I’m sure it’ll also embarrass a few ‘old school’ Lotus cars off the line! Electric sports car is in the works… let’s hope we see something soon. Judging by the EV performance figures we’ve seen so far, it’s going to be rapid. Hopefully we’ll get a bit of Elise rawness in there too 🤞

We’re very thankful too. To own one of the final hand-built, analogue cars makes us very lucky indeed!

Thank you - really appreciate the feedback. Hope you’re enjoying the 240?
Hey John. Good to meet you yesterday at cars and coffee. Found your channel! Hope to see you again. David (grey Cayman!).

Absolutely. The Emira would complement the Elise perfectly 👌
