This sounds exactly like the creole spoken on the islands off the coast of Honduras. The islands of Roatan, Utila and Banacca. I'm not surprised since many of the people living there have ancestry in Belize.
If you can understand Jamaican Creole, you can understand Belizean Creole. Much of it is actually English words and variants of English words spoken with different grammar so it shouldn't be hard to understand from a syntax point of view. So I believe it's actually the accent that makes it difficult for foreigners to pick up. Once your ears becomes attuned to the way Northern Caribbean islanders speak, it becomes a lot easier to understand Jamaican and Belizean Creole.
Are there any british descendants down there? I saw a man (President of the belizean sugar industry) and he had this strong UK'S accent, that's why I asked. Mexican and very interested to visit Belize, wanna go there soon
Creole is a "dialect" that was created by slaves who did not want their masters to understand everything they were sharing. Creole is "broken english" and is certainly not a "language", mainly because as the Major said, it is difficult to spell some of the words and it is not recognized world wide. A wah som wata.... is really not too difficult to spell. Just use the alphabet and you phonics and you are fine. Since no one has determined correct spelling for some of the words, just sound it out and all is acceptable. bowl, boy, bway. All all acceptable in the creole spelling.
