This is an example of why so many of us are so excited about The Beat tour! Steve Vai w Adrian Belew, Tony Levin and Danny Carry will be a major event!
@@diverdown631 I'm jealous. Great interview with them on Rick Beato's channel and Via was cracking me up because he seemed daunted by the task at hand. He's probably practicing right now.
@@jessem470 you’re in for a treat! Adrian and Tony played together so long they practically finish each other sentences! It’s fun to watch them and I’m sure Steve is going to bring fire!
It sounds like Zappa because Steve wasnt just a fan of Zappa he was his a member of the band Early music career (1978-1986) Steve Vai (on guitar in between the drums and keyboard, to the right), Frank Zappa and band during a concert at the Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, New York (October 25, 1980) In 1978, Vai sent both a notated transcription of Frank Zappa's "The Black Page", and a recording of his college band, Morning Thunder, to Zappa.[23][24] Impressed by this, Zappa responded by putting Vai on salary to transcribe his work, which included pieces from the Joe's Garage and Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar albums.[25] After leaving Berklee College of Music and moving to California, Vai auditioned[26] for and became a full-time member of Zappa's band, going on his first tour with Zappa in late 1980.[23] Zappa often referred to Vai as his "little Italian virtuoso",[27] and Vai is frequently listed in the liner notes of Zappa's albums as having performed "stunt" or "impossible" guitar parts.[28] Vai was a featured artist on the 1993 release Zappa's Universe, and in 2006, Vai appeared as a special guest on Dweezil Zappa's Zappa Plays Zappa tour; both projects won Vai a Grammy Award.[29] Theres a video on you tube Stevies spanking where Steve and Frank go at it backed up by the incredible band, Its a must see. If you ever saw or see the Movie Crossroads Steves the guy the kid is dueling with at the end. Thanks for getting to my request and glad you enjoyed it
Dude, Vai, Carey from Tool, Adrian Belew, and Tony Levin on bass are having a King Crimson tribute tour with Fripp's blessing. Steve has to play Fripp.
Hi. Great reaction. Steve Vai recognizes how defining the years playing with Zappa were for him. He is a virtuoso who favors emotion and a excellent composer. My recomendation is to watch the "Tender Surrender" video. Hug from Brazil.
Steve Vai, "Bad Horsie" is a must watch video. It is as "BAD-ASS" of a tune as you can get...! Must listen for all the "Horse Nay" sounds from the guitar picking.... "Steve's Spanking" is also a great tune of a young (20Y.O.) Steve screaming Guitar duet with Zappa.
My favorite guitar instrumental of all time, all bands. All versions are great ! I hope you love it. I was so lucky to see him play this live, a few meters from the scene. A great memory. Not only is he one of the best guitar player, but what a composer !
Blows on his string right where he gets the artificial harmonic with his bridge sustainiac pick up engaged and people are like..."how the hell?"😆 What a showman, a great composer, and an innovative guitar player Steve Vai is.
The man cut his teeth in Zappa’s band, so kudos to the hilt. Back in the day there were two of us here in Norfolk UK (hi, Ronnie) covering this and Satch Boogie in the days when flash was important. Gods, we had some duels. Oh, to be young again.
My first exposure to Steve was on Yankee Rose by David Lee Roth. I was at a cottage on the beach in Connecticut where a friend's band was playing at a party for about 10 of our friends. Before the band started playing, they had the local rock radio station playing through the PA and the song came on. I remember saying, "Who the hell is playing the guitar?" The guitar player said, "That's Steve Vai. He played in Alcatrazz (replaced Yngwie Malmsteen) and also played with Frank Zappa when he was 20." Like it was no big deal. He is my favorite guitar player, and you can't go wrong reacting to anything he's played. Look for Tender Surrender.
Like Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Alex Skolnick of Testament, Larry LaLonde of Primus, and many others, Vai got his start taking lessons from Joe Satriani. When he was 18, and going to Berkley College of Music, Vai formed a relationship with Frank Zappa by first sending him some transcriptions of some of Frank's solos. Frank was impressed, but told Vai he had to wait till he was 20 before joining the band. After he did, Frank would call Vai his little Italian Virtuoso on the album covers, and say he played the "impossible guitar parts". Then Vai started his solo career, along with short stints with Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth, and Whitesnake. This song was originally on his big breakthrough album in 1990, so he's been one of the best for quite a while.
For another bit of ridiculously virtuoso guitar playing... and construction (it took something like five years to build the guitar)... see Teeth of the Hydra. ua-cam.com/video/46qjDJ0lLdE/v-deo.html Great reaction. :) Rock on, Lee!
Give a listen to Miguel Montaban( utube) he is a busker and has a band and tour's . His guitar performances are something else. Im not a paying member , so maybe in your off line time. He is worth it !
Everybody always raves about this one, but I`ve seen Steve do much better performances of this song especially without the bum notes he gets in that no-one seems to notice.
Yeah I watched the one without it after making this request bur both are good but I agree with you. In fact I changed it when I requested it on another channel

Never saw Belew live only saw Vai with ZPZ

Makes you maybe want to live again right. Really interesting choice.

I'll be seeing the incomparable Mr. Vai on stage next week (w/Joe Satriani)! W0000t!!!
Just saw them in Collingswood, it was great and LOUD

for a dose of talent overload, check out Vai with his insane band doing “Now We Run”. It’s ridiculous
As soon as I saw you were reacting to this I couldn’t wait to watch! Keep up the great reactions and cool song choices
Finally someone finds this. Thank you so much. This is amazing ! Bad Horsie next plz. Love this reaction !
I had the album. Truly amazing. Not heard this for 30 years. Nice❤

the original cut should be heard
I'll definitely give it a listen.

you should checkout his one handed piece knappsack that he did while recovering from shoulder and wrist surgery.
For the love of God! I haven’t heard this song in at least a year. That’s pretty good. I really like Steve on the Tinseltown Rebellion.
Check out Steve Vai feat. Devin Townsend (19 years old then). Deep Down Into The Pain.
Also Frank Zappa - Stevie's Spanking feat. Steve Vai
Seen Steve Vai live many times, he is a real showman :)
One of my most treasured CDs is one by Steve Vai, the guy seems to defy physics sometimes.

I had to listen to this twice. It was so soft and mellow..... then became so intense! God, I have no words. Great pick!
Yeah that was incredible. I also listened to it twice LOL
Listen to his song knapsack he did while recovering from shoulder and wrist surgery. He does the whole song one handed
@L33Reacts listen to knapsack,a song he did one-handed while recovering from shoulder and wrist surgery. It'll blow you away.

Rock on, Lee!
Sidenote, if I had $5000 I would buy the signature Ibanez with the handle. I really would. With the maple neck, of course.
If you liked that, Lee, you will, eventually, have to check out Buckethead!
Next song from vai, "Lotus feet." It's also with the orchestra.

Certain passages of this remind me of the theme song from the tv show Kung Fu. Just short parts.
Wow! You too?
Same here.
Used to love that TV series

No I just close my eyes a lot to picture the music in my head

Another guitar that needs therapy.
Hate this version with the orchestra, tons better without.
"Hate"? really? Not a band camp guy ay? lol
Yes hate and no are you?
