The Chicago Cubs desperately need a superstar player . Ideally Juan Soto, but considering the financial constraints with the owner I don’t see it happening . What do you think about Kyle Tucker ? It could be a more realistic option. Tucker has the potential to be a great addition to the team, especially as a number 3 or cleanup hitter and he will have an extra year of control I believe . The cubs need a superstar.

Elias Diaz is too old, but you've got the right position. The target should Samuel Basallo, a catcher currently in AA for the Orioles. He's positon blocked by Adley Rutschman so with a little enticement he might be available. I absolutely love the idea of trading for Adam Mazur, but you're taking some industrial grade pharmaceuticals if you think that's all you have to give up to acquire him. I'd offer the Pads - Mervis, Brennen Davis and Smyly (eating as much of his $$$ that you have to). Would you be open to selling PCA?
Idk anything about Basallo… being he’s at AA, that doesn’t solve anything now. And again, the point of that exercise was to see who they could buy to make an impact this year. For the long term, I’ll look into him.
I really don’t wanna give away PCA. He is one of the few bright spots on this team now. His energy is so good

Good analysis. I agree with almost everything you said. I would add that it's possible they could offload Swanson. I don't expect they could get much for him, but if they could get out from under that contract, I think it would serve them well in the future.

I agree with you...but I also fear that the farm system is vastly over-rated. Our last productive players from our farm system are Nico & Steele...that's 2 that are from 5 years ago....who was good prior to them? I didn't feel like looking any further. I just know that going over 5 years to produce MLB impact players from your farm system is not good. Will PCA be our next guy? Maybe...time will tell. There are things Jed/Carter have done that make no sense. Shipping out Jeremiah Estrada and keeping Nick Madrigal is nuts.
Great episode. I wouldn't buy anything unless we get a longer term no injury deal. Sell a SP if we don't make the playoffs, the return could be huge. Counsell even said a couple years away which was telling.

Offense needs to get better on their own we are underperforming, but the bp sucks. We need a closer like mason miller or tanner scott, but the big hole is at catcher. We need a catcher that can hit

I think the cubs can buy but you need to be smart about what you buy rather than going all in on someone. I'm not sure the player for this exists but something like the Betts/Soto style trade would make a lot of sense for the cubs because they need to clear 40 man space and their prospect talent is good but they lack elite guys. Coming into the year my thought was they would do this for pitching but really starting pitching hasn't been the issue. Ideally, i would like to move happ and upgrade to a more offensive LFer. Not trying to crap on Happ it's just his profile on a team that needs offense is tough. Same could be said for Seiya. PCA is obviously the long term CF atm and Belli is going to get pushed to 1B. 2B and SS are locked up. 3B would be an option but there's not a lot of obvious guys I'd want to invest long term into. And C is just not an offensive position.

The short answer is NO!
The front office needs to go. If anything, they need to fix the bull pin. With the bats, they could get better but not if the bull pin keeps blowing leads and games. Even with the offence doing bad but yet still scoring at least 1 or 2 runs a game. They could have won a lot of these games if it wasn't for the bull pin blowing games. If anything is done, it needs to be in the front office and the bull pin.
The offense sucks, but if the bullpen was even #10 overall in ERA (which isn’t asking for a ton), this is probably a 40 win team right now
@@SetupManCubsbullpen is weird. Smyly is at a 3.52 ERA, Miller is at a 1.82, and whatever Wesneski is at a 2.84 although I’m not sure where he’ll remain

Busch has one of the highest OPS on the team. He's a rookie, he'll be fine. Why take on a bloated contract for Alonso or Vlad? We just need guys to perform up to their capabilities. Proven veterans around the league are struggling. Isn't just us. You don't trade Gold Glove players like Swanson and Happ for peanuts.

Why do we trade Tauchman who leads the team in various aspects? If we have one reliable player it’s him.
Do you see him being part of the championship team (if they are competing for that) in a few years? Keeping in mind the Cubs have just 2 years left of team control with him
As much as I would like the team to go to the playoffs I think we should concentrate on playing well and forget about the playoffs. It’s too much on peoples minds and we destroyed team after team looking for answers and the more we do that the farther we are. I think we don’t give players enough time to prove themselves and they are always under stress. You can’t play well that way.
We got rid of Yu and Catarini, caliber players that we lack now. It’s too much get rid of players as if they grew on trees and then you start searching for what you gave away.
It’s tiring for fans I can’t think of what it is for players. The uncertainty of modern baseball.
@@ibon11 I understand what you mean, but this is a business, and if you don’t innovate, then you die. Look at the Pirates, Rockies, Marlins, etc. Horrible for years and years. The Pirates are just now figuring things out.
But the point is, if the value of the player is high, and you know they aren’t in the picture for the team in a year or 2, it’s smart business to sell high. Tauchman’s value is probably the highest it will ever be right now
Cubs totally suck. Dump the whole relief staff. They all suck! Dump all the hitters that are under .225 average. Only good players are the starters. Almost 1/2 done this season and in last place!!!
I think this is why the cubs are stuck in mediocracy. Been trading away their top prospects for awhile. And that worked during the ws run but that ended. Why are cubs buying Swanson and bellinger which Swanson is so overrated. Bellinger can be good but not worth $$. If anything cubs should be trading for more prospects. Not spending money on busted vets. You want to spend money on young talent not players that are dropping out of their peak. Im hoping Fernando Cruz turns into a star one day
At the time, Swanson looked like a bargain because of the other guys that were signing for crazy high $$ at SS. But I think we greatly overestimated his bat.

Hoyer and his staff are not to be trusted, they will do the wrong thing. The Cubs must have a big market mind managing the club, not a small market, small minded Hoyer. Get rid of Hoyer and his staff and bring in a true big market mind to run baseball operations. Ricketts says he needs more money, that is a lie, he has made enough off the Cubs to go after Chelsea. We need a baseball President to force Ricketts to spend money on the Cubs.

Why not sell though? See what you can get for Steele, Tallion, Bellinger, and Nico? Also try your hardest and try to trade Happ and Suzki. This might be a long shot but I would trade Shota.
