But Bodie treated Slim like he was his peer, when really I would consider Slim to be above Bodie, if not in street status, at least in age and wisdom.

He was frustrated over having to bow down to Marlo and take his package. He was frustrated Slim couldn't help him due to Slim working with Prop Joe, who was trying to recruit Marlo and work with the boy so Marlo would join the Co-Op. Bodie's work-ethic as a middle-management guy in the streets is what managers in the legit world dream of.
    No non-sense, does exactly what he is told & also sees to it to make sure his subordinates do the same. A little hotheaded though since he was still young. His potential was huge but like you said...his options were limited.

      Marlo was practicing the Godfather philosophy with Bodie, i.e. "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer." He never had any intention on developing Bodie. He kept him close to watch him, because he knew he was a threat. Bodie challenged Marlo's authority from the jump when he encroached upon one of his corners. Avon couldn't really develop him, because he was in jail for much of Bodie's rise and Stringer had no intention of being fierce in the streets. He wanted to run the organization like a legitimate retail corporation. Slim Charles tried to tell Bodie to be patient, but that fire was burning too hot in him.

    Two things that caused Bodie's ending.
    1. He was a hothead. He didn't stop and think logically in a business. He acted on emotions. Look at Slim Charles vs Bodie. Slim is just as cold, if not colder, than Bodie "Who we hittin'?" But Bodie was quick to react emotionally. He needed more flex. He also didn't see that things were changing and make moves that would benefit him. He just stayed a soldier instead of an officer.
    2. Lex killing Fruit because of Patrice set in motion a series of events that caused his death.
    A. Lex kills Fruit, B. Marlo sets up Lex, using Kevin to tell Lex. C. Kevin gets Randy to do it, then tells Randy what happened. D. Marlo finds out that Kevin told Randy so he kills Kevin, putting him in a vacant. D. Bodie sees Kevin being pulled out of the vacant and breaks the windows on the cop car. E. Gets arrested. F. McNulty takes him to lunch. G. Monk sees Bodie with McNulty and tells Marlo. H. Bodie gets killed.

    • @KtotheG
      @KtotheG 3 роки тому +12

      Bodie was too emotional, but he was still young. He wasn't as old as Slim Charles, who had the most street wisdom next to Avon. Bodie and Stringer became close after Avon got locked up, because String trusted him as his ear to the street. Bodie would've went through a brick wall for Stringer, but String wasn't worthy of such loyalty, because he was an effective CEO and he never cared about anyone but himself.

    Bodie Broadus is a resemblance of us who've had a really fucked up early life, managed to get out of it only to realise that there is no escape. The game is rigged, just as life, life is not fair. This in combination with his personality, ambitions, intelligence, principles and morals leads to a all-or-nothing type of mentality. Very relatable character, my favorite in television. A true and a real person will always be the one who leaves us first. The good ones always disappear first in life. This world don't deserve us.

    This is why to me The Wire is one of the best tv series of all time. The series has a tremendous amount of depth as far as character creation, story, etc. The Wire literally describes the who what and why of why our urban cities are the way they are from the streets, law enforcement, local government, school system, drug rehab, and judicial system. This is why the solutions are a whole lot more complicated than most people think because as shown in this series, there are a lot of moving parts that affect each other. If Bodie grew up in a two parent upper middle class environment, he would probably be a lawyer, doctor, etc.

    "You make it happen" was the biggest mistake I make transitioning from the military to the civilian world. I put in work while I was in, but I had people invested in my success. There, your success is also someone else's. When the pawn takes a piece, everyone else above him gets to benefit. You put in work, they give you more work, but there is an actual light at the end of the tunnel. Everyone can eat if the game is played right. You are completely disposable, but there's enough potential to achieve something.
    It doesn't work like that in the real world. You put in work & they just give you more work. They just use you & spit you out.

      Stringer? Stringer was an ass. He forgot where he came from. Yeah he still had some gangster in him. But he took a few Econ classes and start spouting what he heard in his classes like he knew what he was talking about.
      Then he started going behind Avon's back to do dirty things. He went to Marlo talking about business and saying they'd let things like the beating on Bodie slide. Marlo saw that weakness and went to war with Avon. He also tried putting Omar on Brother Muzone behind Avon's back and almost cost him the entire organization. In the end his best friend, his childhood friend had to let Stringer go in order to save his reputation and NY connection. Without it he'd have no money, no muscle besides local and no way to get any other help. Marlo could have easily taken him out then. He didn't listen to his people when they tried to tell them that ignoring the corners would make them seem weak. He thought in terms of business. He even got schooled by Clay Davis. Then wanted to throw Slim Charles' life away to kill a Senator.
      All in all he forgot where he came from and where he was. He should have saved that business stuff for his legit money. Staying Gangsta on the streets.

    one my favorite scenes , Bodie tenses up when Chris and Marlo step to him, Chris like hold "on SON , we just talking NOW " Marlo like what's your name, Boney, Biddy ?? then tells him to work their supply or step off, then turns his back to Bodie and walks off ..

    I disagree. I grew up with kids like Bodie. All kids have potential in one form or another. But kids like Bodie will always be street. He was filled with anger and frustration. I recognize that it wasn't all his fault. His environment played a major roll with his brother Charles being killed when he was a kid, loosing his mother when he was young, and his father was never mentioned in the series. However, D'Angelo Barksdale was one of the only characters in the series who could have been successful in the real world. D'Angelo was a lot smarter than Bodie. While in jail, D'Angelo's mother told him that he could have taken Stringer's spot and led the family. But Dee didn't want that role because he didn't like hurting people for profit. His life was the real tragedy because he was trapped. His entire family was involved in the drug trade. He had nowhere to go.
