    My 08 WRX hatch had same issue swapped the tensioner all fixed.

    I have a knock when it gets into the higher rpm can this most likely be the issue or is it more than likely something worse?

      No it is still possible that it is the tensioner if you pull off the USDM drivers side or JDM pass side timing cover off you’ll be able to visually inspect the tensioner and you’ll be able to see if it’s bouncing around if it is that could be your issue if it’s not bouncing around then you might want to look into doing a compression and leak down test

    Do I need to remove the belt in order to replace the tensioner ? Just asking cause imma do it on my Sti 17

      Yes the accessory belts have to come off to access the timing cover

      No the knocking sound was a bad timing belt tensioner commonly misdiagnosed for knocking in the bottom end of the

    How did you remove the second belt? Brute force? I tried loosening the air condition pump and I think I fucked my car 😂

      Its a stretch style belt so you have to just walk it out of the pulley with a flat head or pry bad it’s massively annoying
