One year my dad was off work after surgery. (1950s, I guess no sick pay.) He and my uncle made a bed for my doll and my mom used scraps to make her a whole wardrobe. That was the best Christmas!
When my nieces were young, my husband and I (who have pleasant reading voices) burned a CD of us reading a half-dozen traditional fairy tales and gave that as a Christmas gift one year. It was a hit.
I got a nespresso vertuo machine (usually $250 brand new) from Gabes after Christmas (they always are at a discount anyway) but for only $45. I realize that’s still a lot of money, but it was for myself and WITH a gift card I had received for a present so technically it was free for me.
For years, I struggled with what gift I should give to my father. He has a ton more money than I do, and he buys himself whatever he wants. So I had to figure out something that I could afford, that he didn't know he wanted. NOT easy. Then about 5 years ago, I grew a bunch of hot peppers, dehydrated then, ground them up, and gave him a big jar of hot pepper flakes. To the basket I added some homemade mustard and one or two other things. Biggest hit EVER. So now that's what I do - make him condiments and things that are usually expensive to buy but are inexpensive to make. Frankly, I prefer to give gifts I've made anyway, so we both win here. :) I like your tips - great ideas!
My 7 year old granddaughter loves bugs too! I got Her a bee house that she can paint and hang in the garden in the summer. Got ot at the Target dollar spot for $3. A running subscription to Highlights magazine for Xmas and Ranger Rick for her bday.
The best gift my daughter ever got growing up was from her Grandmaw. She had a box the new hot water heater came in; she painted it black and cut a door in it and put a wooden dowel across the inside. She then went to garage sales and bought 3-4 old prom dresses and cut them down and sewed them up for my daughter who would wear them to local concerts with my Mother.. 💋🧚🏻♀️❤️🇺🇸
Very thoughtful and ideal gifts, but I'm so glad in my family that we reached an agreement even before my folks passed some years ago that we'd only buy the younger kids gifts. We always brought a lot of food for a great sit-down meal anyway. My sister was the one who suggested it, saying she really couldn't afford to do it for everybody anymore. We thought about drawing names or doing gag gifts but decided against it. To me, it was like a weight lifted, actually, and there are fewer of us anyway. I sure miss the old days when we were kids and the old folks were still alive and back then, of course, things were less expensive.
I have a pact with my friends that we exchange only gifts that can be consumed together. We don't need stuff. We have enough stuff. Dinner, candy, baked goods... love!
Gifting on a budget is something we simply have to master on a fixed income. About once each year, I make homemade vanilla extract - Some of it will be decanted into small bottles - This is a great gift for someone who likes to bake. Next up: English toffee - This is really easy to make. During the year, I'll buy semi-sweet baking chocolate when it's on sale so I can chop it up and spread it on the hot toffee - Then sprinkle it with chopped pecans that I harvest from my back yard. Decadent! Other favorites are homemade soaps, tinctures, jams/jellies and cookies, hand crocheted or knitted garments and stuffed toys. So many things you can make on the cheap that people love!
Hey Ms Princess. Loved this video. I especially love the nephew game gift. I told my husband and two young teens that this Christmas we use our talents to make gifts so get cracking! My son just discovered he can do characertures that look as good as professional ones. My daughter is a chrocheting wiz and jewelry maker. My hubby is handy so he can fix stuff for me and my brother and sister. I can bake and love giving my goodies on beautiful thrift store plates.
One treasured gift my daughter received one Birthday from my Aunt and Uncle was priceless. My uncle wrote her a song and recorded it for her on his tape recorder. My Aunt wrote her a beautiful letter. They are both gone now but their gifts are still loved and cherished . ❤
My ex was a brick mason and didn't work in the winter so for months we were on unemployment. I learned to shop clearance all year long and would put in drawer then come holidays or birthdays I would look and see who to match what with. I would buy stuff on like 90% clearance so for $10 I was able to give a gift worth $100.
I shop during clearance sales for gifts year round. For an example, tomorrow Dollar General has a lot of summer seasonal items on sale for 90% off. I'll buy lawn & garden stuff for adults & the summer toys for the kids. The same clearance will occur for the winter/holiday items in the spring. I'll again buy then at up to 90% off & just stash it for the season to come back around. I'm never buying at full price!♥️
If you have Epsom salts and some essential oils handy, you can make scented bath salts. About $3 for a good-sized jar. If you bake, a plate or basket of cookies is maybe $2 worth of ingredients. Homemade bread is even cheaper to make, and you can make all the dough ahead of time & freeze it, then thaw & bake the day before. If you have absolutely no money, no baking supplies or skills, and no closet of stuff to regift, just write a letter to them. Tell them how much you appreciate them, reminisce about a fun or heartfelt time you shared with them, thank them for being in your life. It truly is the thought that counts, and nearly everyone will find this kind of letter to be a wonderful gift.
I love to buy good bars of chocolate and print fun wrappers that I put over the original ones and add a small gift card for something like coffee, tea, ice cream. I did that as a thank you for my student teacher's aides one year. Huge hit!
I really am enjoying your videos. Since I was a kid, I always appreciated gifts no matter how small. Once I received a box of inexpensive hankies and my sibling received a deck of cards. She was affronted that she had received such a cheap gift -I treasured mine. Now, she’s 3x wealthier than I am -good for her. I’m very happy with my life and she is with hers. It’s strange that we are so different.
I love making rustic gifts, it's very popular here in Norway. I make custom gift bags via UA-cam and just use gray/brown? wrapping paper, added a rustic christmas tag on the side of it and finished with a adhesive silver flower (those plastic ribbons) , got a lot of praise for it haha. Also if you have a square gift you can waste some paper and have excess at the ends, and tie them with rustic/brown string, no need for extra tape, and you will have a giant candy.
great tips! love them. i have been knitting socks, mittens and hats. crocheting house shoes.drying peaches, grapes and plums and apples for gifts and going to make candy and cookies for all. great male gift box ...wow!!
Hi prepper princess I like how you make fresh beef jerky and that is so nice of you to give them as great and affordable frugal Christmas gifts. I used to make crafts and give them as gifts. I retired from crafting it’s too expensive and stressful.🎄👍
I have a giant Jade plant that does very well and discovered if you have a small pot (can get them at dollar store and soil) you can break off some of it and put it in soil to grow new plants. I grow them in my upstairs window a few months ahead of the holidays and use them to gift to teachers and such. Each one costs me max of 3.00 to make and are lovely and a decent size once xmas comes. I do the same with Christmas cactus as well! A nice xmas bow around the pot and done. :)
I took a whiff 😂I love smell-a-vision ❤I didn’t know Lowe’s sold that kind of soap. I’m getting some for my husband cuz I’m over Irish Spring 😁Love that handheld video game device. Forget giving to any kids. I want it for myself. U had me at PAC Man 🤣Great gift ideas! Aww love how Nala is like pet here please and Rocky has that eye 👁️ open 🥰
I'm a gardener and a food preserver (canning & dehydrating). If I give a store bought gift to any of my family they'd probably disown me. In the fall I start getting hints or even blunt comments about Christmas gifts. "You better not buy may anything for Christmas! I want some of that home canned jam, fruit, chicken, soup or tuna!!!" In my younger days, when I was dirt poor, I baked cookies as gifts and was always embarrassed because everyone else bought gifts. The first year I could actually buy gifts for my family they were visibly upset they didn't get cookies. I was floored!!! Grown adults were actually pouting because I didn't give them baked goods for Christmas?? That was a huge eye opener for me. I think it was because they felt Loved and had become a Christmas tradition to them. Being Loved is what we all want, right? Ever since I only give either baked goods, home canned things or dehydrated items I've made from my garden. Example: my youngest sister LOVES my cookies, my nieces and nephews love my home canned jam and tuna, my oldest sister loves my dehydrated peppers (she uses them all year in her cooking. I swear she wouldn't talk to me ever again if I didn't give those to her for Christmas. LOL) My husband LOVES getting an IOU for detailing his truck. So it can be an IOU for some sort of help to that loved one. It doesn't have to be fancy. Give what is from your heart! Thanks for the video!!
Beautiful gift baskets PP! I shop dolllar tree all year for name brand products and toss them in the closet and the. Make gift baskets. I spend between $15-$20 and they are packed with stuff. It takes some planning and access to some storage but it's been working for us. Happy early holidays!
I’ve been thinking of giving my young adult niece and nephews and my brothers a coupon for a meal made by me. They could redeem it whenever they’d like. I haven’t had the courage to do it yet 😅 but maybe this year I will.
I love these ideas! Our family has decided to only gift consumables this year. Soap makes a great gift. I'm making pepper jelly and perhaps homemade amaretto.
Great gift ideas!!! I cut down my Christmas costs by a lot. We save and shop all year for gifts and stocking stuffers so that it isn't a strain on us financially. You don't have to spend a lot to make Christmas great. One gift idea is a coupon book for things like make a favorite dessert/treat, a favorite dinner, a back massage, a date night/favorite activity, etc. Christmas first is about celebrating the birth of our Savior. Then, being with loved ones and making memories. Luckily, my family is pretty easygoing as far as gifts. We do more needed/practical gifts with a few fun items mixed in.
I Christmas shop all year long. I find things at extreme clearance prices and I find brand new items at garage sales extremely cheap. I buy for 3 daughters and their husband's and five grandchildren and might spend around $200 and I give them 3 or 4 gifts each!
Love those gift boxes. I used to do so much homemade stuff especially when my children were younger. Youngest is 19 so they just want money so they can put it all together to buy the larger items they need which is fine by me. My older two not so good with money but my 19yr old is like his mum. Cooks from stratch at Uni. Will wash clothes once a week to save on money, won't use the dryer. Only buys what he needs. One out three boys doing this isn't bad. Used to make homemade chocolates for my friends but because of my health and bad Arthritis can't do it anymore. Keep up your video's. Ignore the negative nellies as we call them in England. ❤
LOL i just told someone they could use an excess in walnuts to make candied walnuts for christmas gifts. I really liked the silence while you were painting sometimes I watch a video for information and get frustrated with too much talking.
Wrap a ribbon around the top of the jar. You could also decorate the jar a little with acrylic paint. I’m not a diy er by any means. Thank you. This is a good idea for me since I hate buying ‘Stuff’ for people.
Shrink-flation, good term, and it's the truth. Can't go wrong with chocolates. I don't know if you have an Aldi's in California or not, but my daughter brought over some chocolates, exclusive to Aldi's; best chocolates I've ever had. Dark chocolate, covered chewy caramel, sprinkled with sea salt. OMG, asked her to send some for Christmas, we don't have an Aldi's in my area of Florida either.
Be careful putting soap next to food bc the food can absorb the scent of the soap, esp strong scented soaps. I speak from experience but maybe this packaging (or soap) doesnt do that. Aside from separating the packages (food and nonfood items), I'm not sure of any alternatives. I do love buying bulk (like the candy) and distributing among gifts.
When you mentioned the niece who likes to dress up it reminded me of a very successful joint gift that my sister gave to two little girls - a dress up box. She put in bits of old jewelry, some sparkley tops of her own that she didn’t wear anymore, colourful scarves and found a few glitzy pieces from the thrift shop. It was probably the cheapest gift she ever gave and the biggest hit. They asked for the same for the next year 😄
Something must be wrong with my relatives because I could never get away with giving these gifts. I think they are great if you are on a tight budget or as a side gift.
I go to the library and get some really beautiful books and I go on the Saturday where if you're a Member of the Library you get half off the books on one Saturday a month. One year I scored big time; those books were practically new!
Those sweet fur babies are living the dream with you, Amber. I remember all your hard work to introduce Nala to Rocky! I’m pretty sure they’ve bonded!!😂❤💯😘
Just watched this video that you made showing some inexpensive gifts. Great ideas. I agree with you 💯 that gifts don't have to be costly. No one should feel bad because they can't afford more. It's the thought that counts. Always. Thank you for sharing your ideas.
Last year my neice and her kids were like... that is it? I got the kids a whole bunch of different junk for them to have a netflix day. I gave the niece and her other half 1 box of chocolates to share... those snooty boogers gave nothing in return and had attutude about what they recieved. This year... one 3 or $4 box of chocolates for all of them to share... maybe even a $2 box. If there are any complaints... I will flat out look them in the eye and say I gave far more than you gave last year, so the words are thank you auntie. Other family... one box of chocolates. My neice that is really good to me year round... a resin project. Seriously... I am spending under $10... everything for extended family and some on my 4 year old grandaughter... dollar store toys. Everything else I am making from what I have on hand. I have some soap making stuff... I have some resin... I have some glass etching stuff and glassware. I don't need to buy anything. We do not have to go broke for christmas... and it is okay to cut back on entitled peoples gifts. To be fair... I litterally have to take in bottles for reclycling to afford the gifts I am getting. I am still not willing to go into debt tho.
My family is on the opposite coast from me so mailing gifts is too costly. Grandkids are 22 & 20 so I just send them cash to go get what they want. No hassles, done deal. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us. They're great. Love the pup cameos. 🥰🐾🐾🐕🦺
I have the same dehydrator except only 4 trays!! I live overseas in Japan and travelled to Hong Kong a lot, I can’t believe how many games they put on one cartridge. Electronics is very cheap on Hong Kong plus I travelled to South Korea quarterly.
My TOTAL budget for Christmas is $100 to $150 tops. In the past it was less. Out of necessity I have done this, but now it is just because I do not feel the responsibility to spend my hard earned money on gifts for people who basically ignore me the rest of the year, and that includes family. I utilize the holidays as a reason to give for sure, but I make quilts, or hand made items, at times bake, although that has become rather expensive also. I have 12 quilts in my closet that I have made from THRIFTED or FREE fabric, over the last year in order to prepare for the holidays. I have also bought BEAUTIFUL second hand doll houses at thrift stores for $7.00 or so and I paint them and put in popsicle wood floors or egg carton stone floors. I get to be creative and give a beautiful gift for not much. It does take time but I enjoy it.
@@S_H9260 I was so excited the day I found them. Then I went to Walmart and found a clearance rack of women's summer pajama sets for $1 a set. I'm sure you can guess what the women in the family are receiving for Christmas this year.
Amazing gifts .I made this year for 5 people (cost only 5 Euro each)in paper bags gifts .Each one has some Action store products(Something like Dollard store in US) , mini products like hand cream, lipstick balm aromatic candle, face mask, and sweets .They are for my co-workers. I don't expect anything from them, of course, but I know they will like them .
omg, this is one of the best videos i've ever seen. i have a brazilian crate somewhere i could use to make this PERFECT gift; i would make mine a persimmon orange. i cannot think of a better gift than protein, i can't think how u even did this . . .
I love getting personalized homemade gifts. Not only are they thoughtful, but they are usually unique gifts that I will truly enjoy. I would prefer something like that, that is less expensive, versus a generic gift card. Bottom line is, everyone has different budgets & not everyone can or wants to give the same amounts & that is ok. Spending time & showing appreciation for each other is most important anyways.
One year my dad was off work after surgery. (1950s, I guess no sick pay.) He and my uncle made a bed for my doll and my mom used scraps to make her a whole wardrobe. That was the best Christmas!

Tj maxx does 80 percent off the day after Christmas . Gifts for 5/6 dollars that were almost 20. I put it in the closet and wrap it 11 months later .
I love shopping off season. I did not realize the day after Christmas, things become available at such a discount. Thanks for the tip§!
@@Lovepeacejoy.. it’s so worth it ! My sister in law wait for midnight . Best deals !
I got a nespresso vertuo machine (usually $250 brand new) from Gabes after Christmas (they always are at a discount anyway) but for only $45. I realize that’s still a lot of money, but it was for myself and WITH a gift card I had received for a present so technically it was free for me.

Unfortunately, my niece LOVES spiders. Yup, spiders. She has been warned not to touch black widows but still tries.

And with the jars of candy you can make it look pretty with a scrap of holiday fabric over the lid tied around the neck with either ribbon or twine.
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for sharing your knowledge. I never thought I'd be broke again but here I am.
Instead of jars i wrap sweets (candy) in cellophane wrap and tie with ribbon ❤️💚

Dollar tree and goodwill are best places to get gifts 🎁
Some libraries have a library of things. You can borrow a dehydrator at the one near me.
😮wow
Be careful putting soap next to food bc the food can absorb the scent of the soap, esp strong scented soaps. I speak from experience but maybe this packaging (or soap) doesnt do that. Aside from separating the packages (food and nonfood items), I'm not sure of any alternatives. I do love buying bulk (like the candy) and distributing among gifts.
True! Learned the hard way when cleaning out my mother’s apartment. Had to toss an entire pantry of food. Not worth the risk.
They asked for the same for the next year 😄
I enjoyed this video so, so much. This warmed my heart so much because I could feel the love and through put into these gifts.
Something must be wrong with my relatives because I could never get away with giving these gifts. I think they are great if you are on a tight budget or as a side gift.
Yes, they are materialistic. Not a pleasant attribute
💜Everybody should be very happy with any gift they receive💜
You didn't let me smell the candle!
Oops sorry!
I go to the library and get some really beautiful books and I go on the Saturday where if you're a Member of the Library you get half off the books on one Saturday a month. One year I scored big time; those books were practically new!
Great tips, Princess. My husband received the Dukes soap one year for Christmas and loved it. That’s all he uses now.
It smells really good
Great idea! I make beef jerky in our smoker and never thought to make it gifts. 1/2 a steer in the freezer, too!
I have purchased that same ‘game boy’ dupe for my 9 year old son earlier this year! He loves it ❤️
Those sweet fur babies are living the dream with you, Amber. I remember all your hard work to introduce Nala to Rocky! I’m pretty sure they’ve bonded!!😂❤💯😘
Aww I love the tummy rubs at the end❤❤
I love these tips! It’s also good to have it reinforced that it’s OK!
What a great men's gift box!!!
Awesome gifts Prepper Princess!
Tetris STILL rocks my world.
Great gift but be careful w/ the soap. The intense smell from the soap might penetrate the packaging of the beef jerky.
Omg the babies snuggling at the end ❤
thank you for the ideas of what I can do for christmas present on a budget you rock
Love this video! Love❤❤❤
Your fur babies. They needed each other.
Your doggies are precious! SO nice that they have each other to snuggle up to. LOVE your videos!
My family is on the opposite coast from me so mailing gifts is too costly. Grandkids are 22 & 20 so I just send them cash to go get what they want. No hassles, done deal. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us. They're great. Love the pup cameos. 🥰🐾🐾🐕🦺
Great ideas, especially being on a tight budget this year 😊
I love these ideas and especially the presentation.
Oh no...dont mix pepermint with other chocolates...the pepermint will permeate the others and they will taste funky. I learned this the hard way...
I have the same dehydrator except only 4 trays!! I live overseas in Japan and travelled to Hong Kong a lot, I can’t believe how many games they put on one cartridge. Electronics is very cheap on Hong Kong plus I travelled to South Korea quarterly.
Nice gifts
Children especially need to learn that money is not bottomless. Prep for real life
It goes to show a little time and creativity bring on great results!
Great ideas . Thank you for the content
This year one of my presents is an 18 pack of gatorade found on clearence for
$.99 was able to score 3 cases so three people will be getting them .
Wow 😲 That's a fantastic find!!
@@S_H9260 I was so excited the day I found them. Then I went to Walmart and found a clearance rack of women's summer pajama sets for $1 a set. I'm sure you can guess what the women in the family are receiving for Christmas this year.
Bacon makes great jerky really makes everything better. But costs to much now. Thinking of getting part time job if they will pay me in bacon.
I don't expect anything from them, of course, but I know they will like them .
can use herbal or other fancy teas, along with some lotions and a hand made gift like a scarf.
omg, this is one of the best videos i've ever seen. i have a brazilian crate somewhere i could use to make this PERFECT gift; i would make mine a persimmon orange. i cannot think of a better gift than protein, i can't think how u even did this . . .
Love the puppy and dog time. They trust and 💗 you so much.
LOVE THIS PP🥰❤️💚🥰 you gave me some really awesome ideas! You are so creative✨ hugs to Rocky n Nala🐾🐾❤️❤️
Hello Pp, truly enjoy all u share and have taught me ❤🇨🇦
Adorable Rocky cam as usual....they are soooo cute!❤
This is so thoughtful & looks lovely Thanks for the ideas 😊
Great ideas, but the puppies! Love their little faces
Thank you, wonderful ideas!
This is such a great idea! I would be so happy to receive any of these gifts. Keep sharing more ideas!
Great gifts! Thoughtful.
