    A big brim hat will usually keep yellow flies off your face.when I mowed for the St Johns River management district I had a top on my tractor and they would not land on me as long as I stayed in the seat.But if I got off they would eat me alive.Horse flies did not play by the same rules.Great Video.

    I was attacked one evening at Little Cayman Island. A HUGE cloud of man-eating 'skeeters' . Prepping for scuba night dive. I literally ducked underwater with skeets on me (getting gear on for the dive) to avoid bites, BUT they stayed anchored into me the whole time! Man vs Bug! Bugs usually win! I've been watching a lot of your videos since I discovered your channel recently. Great stuff man. Totally love your wacky ways, and I mean that as a compliment. I am much that way, lol. I'm in South West Florida. Adventures abound. Pro tip from someone who has had spring diving lessons. Ditch those long ocean fins; wrong fins for wrong application. Get yourself a pair of short travel fins or Duck fins. You will be able to fly through that cave stuff much, much easier. They will let you actually use your legs. You will be amazed. Cheers!

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  2 місяці тому +1

      Haha thanks! No offence taken my man. It's rare that I get in that confined of spaces while freediving so I prefer my longer fins due to their higher efficiency and less leg speed needed to propel myself. But, I would like to get a small set to try though!

    • @Beerbatter1962
      @Beerbatter1962 2 місяці тому

      @@TripSmith Yeah, the small fins would only be for the cavern stuff. They really shine there. But for sure on your longer treks, the ocean fins are sweet. Like when you were at the Glen and had to swim a distance; perfect there for sure. That was one heck of trip up and back. I lived in Titus for a while. Mostly sailing when I was there. Keep it up brother. Your adventures are truly inspirational. And a perfect example of how one doesn't have to spend a fortune to have epic adventures.

      Trip Smith I hear ya! They have different sizes. I usually keep it in front of the console of the skiff when running. Then throw it up on the poling platform to get it out of the way. Here’s a link so you can get an idea of sizes and shapes.

    How cool to see what's inside, under, and through those holes. You're very brave to do that! I've been enjoying your vids for a little while now, and I have to say I was a little disappointed that you didn't eat anything in this one. I'm usually equal parts horrified and amused by what you come up with for sustenance on your trips (maybe in part because I'm a vegetarian and eat really clean). Amazing River. The 7-springs are is nice, but so is The Crack. Looks like it was high tide when you first arrived. I was thinking it would be tough to get a skiff into The Crack, but a great little area to camp on an out of the way spring.
    My larger Maverick skiff has the DF90A. A fantastic engine. Quiet as a church mouse and sips fuel.
    Look for a MHX Carbon Push Pole from mudhole.com. It's a very economical carbon push pole that is shipped in segments and you epoxy the segments together after you get them. Very helpful for settings like pushing up to the springs at low tide.
    Come back and try The Chaz in the winter. The springs are great when it's about 50-60 degree air temp.
    If you are ever down that way again there's a great spring off the Withlacoochee River that is sort of a locals only spot. Pretty close to a great camping area along the river too.

      Oh cool! A maverick.... How nice.... Sweet rides. I'm waiting on a Mercury 60hp to come in stock to toss on her.
      Wow, that thing is still $400.... Maybe I'll get one one day. Thanks for the info.
      I could imagine in the WInter it is REALLY nice.
      What's the name of that spring on the coochee?
      Thanks for all the great info!

    Sorry if I come across like busy body but I’m the same about keeping my boat clean. Pick up one of the tube style squirt guns (bass pro) the kind you suck up the water like a syringe in use it to wash down the boat and they don’t take up much room

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  3 роки тому

      That's an interesting idea.... I'm also a stickler about battery consumption so I wouldn't want my bilge running extra just for that convenience lol But sometimes I might. I do carry a collapsible bucket onboard that I will use form time to time to rinse her down. Mainly when I'm loading at the ramp I will wash her down with it.

    What size battery do you have on that? I'm guessing with the battery free electric start on that motor that you use a single dual purpose with no real need for redundancy?

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  3 роки тому

      It has a starting battery and a large deep cycle trolling motor batter in the front. I can't recall the exact amp hours the batteries are..... I don't really like the way it's wired at the moment and may be changing things up in the future

      Trip Smith come to think of it, I think I did see you gear tie a bottle to the corner one video.
      Also you'll lose some speed but you should look into a jet drive for the next boat, go up a few sizes on the powerhead and you'd be good.
