Bro i am from Serbia, i started learning drums, sorry, i bought Roland electric drum set, just to slowly and easly i can hit something here and there, in purpose of therapy without drugs! Now i am, not sure, how many days, not single one i paused from pure enjoyment. I discovered your channel very soon after that and today i can say that people who listened, and try to play with me some basic slow songs, friends with guitar and keyboar, everyone keeps telling me that i am advancing waaay to soon. I couldn`t stick that to myself, and told them about this channel. Aaaand they said that this is never better explained certain topics in drumming. Eveery your clip is pure gold. Some of 10, i dont know again, how much years ago, i started amateur boxing, out of blue. After boxing downoladed to my body and got at least some kinetic chain i felt i swear to God, that i have cannons in my arms. After working with Stephen for two months now i feel like i can drop some Harry Potter sh*t. :D My hands motorics got waay improved, no more unprecice and sloopy movement with hands. :D :D This is, i don`t know, maybe is the best for this to be freee for everyone, because u can not put a price on years of trying and repeating in few videos. Despite videos are on theee Goood D8aamn point, every word, every advice, from zero, i am acctualy playing with two persons, with insturments, and not loosing tempo. They told they dont wanna make me lose connection with reality by acctualy explaining me in how many ways i am advancing at sooo fast pace. I have name, and i have surename. It`s Stephen Clark!!! Pure excellence of presenting such a beautiful topic as playing music!!!

The typical drum corp snare technique is fulcrum on index with the space between the thumb and palm/index finger at a minimum, with all of the control coming from the back fingers.

At first I thought “That practice pad on your snare must be made of the bounciest stuff on the planet!”
And then I had a try at using my middle finger instead of the index finger and the stick bounced as much as yours did. And I was completely shocked at how much of a difference it does make!
I am now officially your latest fan, and subscriber!
Thank you very much indeed sir. 🙇‍♂️
Thing’s just got ALLOT easier with such a small change!

Truly you're the best teacher I know. I was wondering if a video of triple strokes would be done. And I'm super grateful for this. The exercises are wonderful but a bit tough. And to all my fellow non-glamorous drummers, I wish you all success. Thanks a billion Stephen🤗

Hey brother just want u to know I've seen close to all the drum instructors on line and I have got to say you are by far the best teacher on the web I've been playing music guitar, drums, etc.... For 30yrs, I've learned a lot from your videos to improve and tighten up my playing. I really always thought I was pretty good but now I know I am. But still learning every day. Thanks Stephen

    Hey Stephen,
Really enjoying your videos mate, great quality. I was always taught to use my fingers for any double/triple strokes so that you can maintain control the whole time. I love considering different options, but in your case, how would you accent the second and third notes with this rebound technic as opposed to an all fingers style?
    Cheers.

You use match grip but what if you use traditional grip where does the fulcrum and pressure press come from in that please Stephen?

  • @sabahoudini

Index finger is a poor choice for downward pressure. You really want to use the thumb for that so it has to be on top of the stick so german grip is pretty unoptimal for this. Best is to use french or american grip with first finger fulcrum. In the american grip you can have the thumb sort of on top a bit diagonally by rotating the stick and closing the dreaded "gap" (oh nooo). The advantage with using the american or french is you can use the fingers as well.

How is the first exercise increasing hand speed? It’s all rebound. Gravity and the stick are doing all the work, not your hand.
