To be fair - a lot of things were left out of the film like the other superheroes, the reveal to Alya, Mayura, Ladybug's role as Guardian and more. But I think they're saving most of that for the second movie where Mayura will be the antagonist and then in the third movie the story will follow on season 6+
Really shows how Tom was holding his creation back instead of letting it strive, usually it's the company that's holding the show back from being great by cancelling too soon or something.
@@ThinkBoxChris the boss being your friend or not shouldn't matter if you want to make a good show, if miraculous didn't get as popular as it did his friend boss would have cancelled the show eventually due to poor ratings and low performance.
Yeah but thats the thing, most corporate oversight is good, and your best friend shouldnt be your boss because if its popular who cares what your actually doing. Jeremy doesnt stand up to him and thats the problem
This movie definitely benefits from not having Thomas on board and being a film. Due to the limited runtime, it can't lounge in the status quo and, instead, developed the relationship at a decent pace! Also, Adiran is actually getting to interact with his dad and find out he is a villain. As a film, it's alright, but, as a piece of Miraculous media? Breath of fresh air
You’ll be happy to know a sequel is already in production. And yeah this movie was amazing simply because it did in 90 minutes what the show refuses to do in 130+ episodes Also love how it gives them a way to alert each other of an attack in their civilian forms via the flashing miraculouses. Something the show refuses to do so especially because they don’t know each others identities so they’re pretty much SOL if one of them is absent (and it’s always Cn absent). I’m willing to give leeway to some of the changes in powers too since it’s an AU.
@@t-11563 seasons... You're joking. 5 seasons was pushing it! They're going for 8 seasons????? What- with _Lila_ that ain't happening she's not developed enough as a villain! At least Gabriel had grounded motivation. But how they executed him in the end gives me no hope for Lila and even less for Chloe if they decide to use her.
One little detail I loved about the play fight scene was after Cat Noir kinda pins Ladybug against the wall and she tells him she needs to go. The subtle detail that, even though Cat Noir asks her not to go, he then drops an arm to give her a way out with no further prompting from her. Wordlessly saying that even though he wants her to stay, he won’t make her stay. It’s a beautiful moment of showing respect for someone’s boundaries and a welcome change from the show.❤
the movie accomplishing more in 2 hours than the shows 5 seasons while being better looking and better written so funny and it proves how much time the show wasted
The movie is far from perfect, but it gets the fundamentals right. Marinette's character is so much better (she's not a wild stalker but rather a shy, friendless girl who undergoes character development and gains confidence), and Hawk Moth is actually a sympathetic villain. And oh my god, that ending was awesome. I also like how the love square was resolved quickly - it just took one rejection, and the characters moved on (after some sadness, of course). We didn't get Cat Noir constantly flirting with Ladybug even after she said no. I was a bit surprised with how Adrien was portrayed as sassy and rude in the beginning (he called Marinette weird and was quite egotistical as Cat Noir), but I do like that they portrayed him as reckless and wanting to take charge (like a cat out of the box) since he had been controlled and made to follow orders his entire life. And Adrien did have great character development, as he learned to be a better team player, formed more friendships rather than being a loner, and became a happier person himself.
@@CorruptSimmer03 I’d honestly have liked it better if Adrien was the one to recognize Marinette as a good person rather than Alya, and he was the one to stand up to Chloe. It would have proven his good character and created a reason for Marinette to like him.
I think the movie really shows how much potential the series had. It’s funny how Thomas said ‘a movie gives you what you want, a series gives you what you need’. I watched your previous video and it seems like he constantly sets up plots/ characters and then does nothing with them which makes it completely pointless. There’s no foresight or direction in the series. He’ll keep dragging it out until it finally gets cancelled with no real conclusion. I watched the movie and it was nice to see the characters as actual characters and not Thomas projections. The conclusion was nice too, it’s where the series should’ve gone. This was kind of long but those are my thoughts. Side note: I’m surprised Thomas hasn’t killed off Marinette’s parents so that his self insert can adopt her and his dream of being a ‘father’ to his virtual daughter can come true. That dude is a total weirdo.
Tom Dupain is one of his self inserts. Self inserts only work when it’s the author’s family members or a character that happens to have similar ancestry as the author. Examples: Mini Mercado Lopez, Nico Di Angelo, and Davery Descheny.
I think you missed the word "not' here. However i think what theit getting at is that tom and sabine are literally thomas and hos ex girlfriend sabine and Marinette is their actual fictional daughter. Like hes confirm this on twitter... i dont see how thats not a self insert given that thomas is also born and raised in france, it wouldn't suprise me if also had an Italian mother
@@ThinkBoxChris whoops I was referring to the character with the black hair and beard, that looks like Thomas. That he used to make the episode where he was basically calling out the fans or whatever.
@@Mera2300 The movie made the characters flat (especially Marinette who already had an endearing personality) Adrien is just a teenager in puberty who loses his only quality as a character which was his Gabriel's learning of friendship and madness arc in this film is poorly done
Sarcastic Chorus said that one of the biggest issues with the movie is that it tethers itself to the show instead of 100% unapologetically doing its own thing, and I agree. It's supposed to be a reimagining of the show's origins stories so they should've went all in (it also needed like 20-30 more minutes) Also I caught how it felt that Marinette was new in Paris, too, specifically with Chloe. When Marinette accidentally messes up her sweater, the way Chloe interacts with her makes it seem like this is a first time offense and everyone is worried for Marinette, but at the end, it's like Chloe's been bullying her for years and only backed off recently.
I mean it kinda does that, although i think thibgs were cut for time. This shoulda been 2 and a half hours. And right chole is so weird in this movie like she ping pongs a lot in it
Honestly,i love this version of marinette and adrien. Hell, even nathalie somehow. Like, seriously the way nathalie apologizes to adrien when somehow makes nathalie more humane than the show gives her.
This movie is alot better than the show. Despite it's flaws like being a little rushed thanks to the time limit. But other than that it's good. Here's some things I ecspecialy loved. 1) Marinette and Adrien feeling like a real teenagers, feeling heartbreak, being awkward and so on. 2) Gabriel actually being a symptomatic villain. After finding out that Adrien is Chat Noir, he actually feel regret instead of yeeting him across town. 3) The main character's relationship in and out of costume is really good. Teasing eachother and being confused about their feelings towards eachother's both identities. 4) The miraculous choosing the holders themselves. 5) Marinette not being a creepy stalker and have a realistic crush on Adrien. 6) And ofcourse. Chloé actually being a perfect mean girl who seems to have respect for Marinette at the end. Still a bully, but still better than the show. If I would say one thing I would have changed is. Maybe not have it be a musical. Or atleast cut some out. That would give the movie more time to develop things. Ecspecialy with Adrien seeing Plagg for the first time. We literally see him find the ring, and then he's Chat Noir. So maybe they should have skipped the musical side or cut atleast half the songs. I'm looking forward seeing the sequel. Ecspecialy with them being together. And I hope Chloé actually gets a redemption. But I don't really think movie Chloé is really that bad. She's just a mean girl who seems to give respect to some chosen once. So it's good. Has some flaws but still good.
A bit issue for me was the opening number. I felt it focused on Marinette too much. It did a decent job at showing who she is and her dreams (fashion) but at some point I felt it went on too long. It started to get repetitive because it only touched on her. Usually opening numbers in musicals can be ensemble numbers. I feel like the first number in Beauty and the Beast, "Belle" is a good example of this. The purpose of it is not just to introduce Belle but the world she lives in. Everyone who lives there. Flesh out the village she lives in. In my opinion this number should have been an ensemble. Adrien should have been singing too. Maybe Chloe? Give her a couple lines? It should have been a montage of the characters relevant to the story each living their lives, Adrien definitely needed more scenes to show his relationship with his father. I also think this movie spent a strange amount of time on Marinette's parents. There are a lot of scenes with her and them. She is the main character but simply put they are not relevant to the story. Their importance to the plot is trivial. They should have cut the amount of scenes she had with them in half and given them.... ADRIEN. For god's sake. He only got 2 major scenes involving his father. That is the most important parent/child relationship in the story. The villain song is also a problem... because the movie set up Gabriel to be this tragic and sympathetic villain who has really serious conflict. All of a sudden during the number he's having fun being evil, he loves being evil. Then back to serious again when it's over. I really believe the tonal issue could have been solved if they made this number a lot more serious. Like Hellfire. That would have been way better.
im still sad that the song "Ce mur qui nous sépare" got cut out of the final movie, in my opinion its the best song out of the movie and would really help developing the marinette and adrien romance, but im glad that atleast the background music of the song played multiple times
I think they're talking about the song "The Wall Between Us" which also has a sort of mv? It's such a damn beautiful song fr- would've loved seeing it in (AND THE LYRICS ARE SO DAMN CUTE). But at least we got the bg music.
I agree with all of this, but having watched the show for so many years the inconsistencies were a little glaring. The things that bothered me the most were A) The lack of scenes of Adrien and Marinette getting closer as civilians and B) Marinette’s sudden bravery. One of the things I like about the origins episode is that she only gains the confidence to be Ladybug when she notices someone she cares about- Alya- is in danger. Alya was on a literal death coaster in the movie and they didnt use that as fuel for Marinette to decide to wear the earrings? She instead gets a cheesy song about how she’s just going to do it? Like, CONVINCE me she’s changed her mind about being brave don’t just throw it in there for plot convenience. Sorry mini rant lol. Other than that I loved the movie!
Definitely missed out on a courageous action becoming a brave path, where she goes in anyway all scared but after she becomes more brave as that's twice she and Noir have handled villains.
Perhaps I just extrapolated more from the scene/song than was actually there, but I interpreted the scene as Marinette realizing “if I don't step up, everyone I love could die.” Alya had just informed her that she was going to the coster, and Marinette was walking away from her dad, so she knows at least a few people she deeply cares about are in immediate danger. I also think it’s easier to shirk the responsibility of being a hero when you aren't actively confronted with civilians being attacked. She might be afraid and not want to be a hero, but once she actually sees people in danger, she feels compelled to act. She cannot just stand by and let people be hurt. If she doesn’t intervene, she’d be/feel just as responsible for any casualties that occur.
i actually like Emilie's design in this one. she and her sister look off to me in the show AND THE SCHOOL LOOKS LIKE A SCHOOL. the one in the show looks like a basketball court with, like, 4 classrooms around it
I think the movie is in every way possible better than the series. If it had 20 min more of screen time, I think it would be enough to correct those flaws you pointed out. Loving your content and subbed! Cheers from Brazil and I hope you succeed 🎉🇧🇷
@@nunomartins467 I actually don't think that is the main reason. I think it's a combination of what you said and more of: 1) This film is the second French film with largest budget spent to be produced. If it had more time, it would cost even more and maybe Zag did not want to spend more money in it. 2) The fandom is already dying as the seasons go by. And since the 5th season is over, if the film came out later, it would maybe attract a lot less fandom and public than it is already recieving. People are still comenting about the whole 1st arc of the series and the fandom is still somewhat active. It's arguable that with a better film, they would attract more people, but It could not either. And in this gambling, they decided to post it already. I'm sure, though, that there are cutted scenes, the fandom just didn't find it already.
this is not a horrible movie but is also not a great movie but it fixes all the problems for me so far I haven't finished season 5 I'm in the episode where Adrien is leaving Paris but after watching this I no longer want to go back because this is how I imagine how the show actually end and no is going to tell me otherwise I literally cry at the emotional scenes and I love the music even do the voice change was jarring
the movie does so many things right! especially for being a 90 minute picture, i think its the best we couldve got, and im glad to say i genuinely enjoyed it. great review as always and i personally dig the jokes, so do with that what you will!
Oooo I've been waiting for this video. I actually really liked the movie because it fully embraces how cartoonish some of the characters are. Like Chloe is cartoonishly bitchy instead of just cringy bitchy, all of the reactions are cartoonishly outlandish, and Marinette is cartoonishly clumsey. This made it fit the musical nature of the film. The problem is, like you pointed out, it's almost identical to a disney film. Like this could have come out of Disney studios and no one would have noticed. I, as a chinese man, actually loved the portrayal of Fu. He has this weird fourth wall breaking where he's speaking to the characters as if the characters know what we know, but they don't, so he comes off as batshit crazy in his first two scenes. Like I said, it's cartoonish in how silly it is, and it's funny that it weirds out Marinette because that's how you would logically react to a weird old man yelling about how the world is doomed at you. Oh and Tom looks weird because his eyes are tiny. Like they're noticably way tinier than the other characters and it doesn't look like it's a stylistic choice. It makes him look deformed in the universe rather than just being due to the art style. Similarly, the lack of Vee as a singing voice is even worse when you remember she also did Shantae, which has normal speaking parts and singing mixed together EDIT: Also the art is so much better. I think they poached a few Disney animators (Chloe kinda looks like she could be Rapunzel's descendent) but it made everyone look less creepy. It actually makes the actual series kind of unwatchable now knowing better character designs exist. Also, the Mime is the best character. I need more of him.
First off thank you for this coment its lovly. Secondly; thats it! Thank you i couldnt figure it out. Thirdly now i just want chole and rapunzel to meet
@@ThinkBoxChris I use to be a tutor for prepping kids to get into animation colleges like Sheridan, so I had to give the lecture on proper character design, aesthetics vs style, and appeal a lot. The main series is very hard to watch as a result as a lot of the characters not only look like they came from different people (when you should strive to have everyone on the same production to be on the same note), but different series and even different scales (Rose was the worst). This ain't perfect, but it's still miles better than the main series. Especially Chloe, her model, animation, and acting just makes her endearingly bitchy now. EDIT: Speaking of not perfect, I didn't like the placement of some of the songs and actually skipped them when I watched the movie. And another one was Gabe giving his whole backstory just at the end. I felt like it was redundant because it was already communicated well that they both miss the mom, and it didn't make much sense why he would tell Adrien this when Adrien should have logically known about it (It would have made more sense if he told it to Cat Noir, oblivious that it was Adrien). the show, not tell, bits were way better. Also, not many people talk about this but I'm personally impressed with the lip rigging, which dramatically help with conveying emotion here. All of the characters have fairly perky lips, so when you see them bite it or it shrinks, it help subconsciously punctuate their feelings. Like when Chloe was about to throttle marinette, or when tiki tells Marinette she can "do it" and Marinette bites her lips while frowning. This even happens with Gabe in the singing number to denote when he's being extra cheeky.
Thats a really intresting qay to be able to look at this, its nice getting to see different skill sets critique a movie. And i agree the backstory was really too late. The lips did help a lot thats something i notice a lot too
@@ThinkBoxChris i was trained by Sheridan College as an animator, so this is just the basic skill set I learned. It helps on critiquing films and fix issues, but at the same time I also can't enjoy films anymore since my brain is constantly nitpicking :P BTW the last show I worked on was Sunny Day. I know exactly how the lower production hands feel when they have to animate crap because they need a paycheque.
16:10 My mom (who loves kids' movies but has never seen nor heard of the show) and I (who dislikes the show but adores the concept) had no problems with understanding the powers/rules as set up in this film, and neither of us felt like anything fell flat. We actually liked it and thought it was surprisingly cute. The animation alone was spectacular. I thought Ladybug’s singing and speaking voices were both fantastic; however, the stark contrast between the two voices was extremely jarring and broke my immersion. And the ghost of Cat’s mom suddenly being a giantess when embracing her family at the end definitely undercut the heartfelt moment. Other than those two things, I really took no issues with the film. Were there areas it could be improved? For sure. But overall, I was actually impressed. I really didn't expect to like this movie as much as I did. In fact, I wasn’t sure I’d like it at all. But it was quite winsome. I have no doubt that I’d have been absolutely obsessed with this film as a kid. Again, it may not be a great film or cinematic masterpiece, but it is a cute and delightful movie.
The singing voice for Adrien is actually a different guy but the voice actually matches. Lou is a great singer but she does not really match Marinette's voice.
Actually I think Careless Whisper works for Cat Noir since if you listen to the song it's about a lost love, not a sexy getting ready song. Heck one of the lyrics of the song is, "So I'm never gonna dance again, The way I danced with you..."
Aww thank you, i really wanted to give the background personality since the "wallpaper" changes to fit the thing im talking about. Also i die on the hill that braveheart is better than way to dawn
Your summary of the film was hilarious. Not nearly as funny as the irony knowing Zag did a better job of telling the show's plot in less than an hour and thirty than Thomas.
I actually really like the change to Ladybug’s powers. Instead of being blessed with two powers - the Lucky Charm and the Miraculous Ladybugs, she only gets one, and I’d much rather the battle damage fix over the ass pull that is the Lucky Charm. Also, I’ve seen ppl complain that Adrien in the movie is kinda a bit ruder than his counterpart in the show (particularly him calling Marinette a weirdo), but I’d actually much rather him being a bit more stand-offish and judgemental. Kinda taking a few traits from Felix, but not going too far with them. Idk, he grew up with Chloé and is a privileged rich kid like her, to me it only makes sense he’d be a bit ruder by nature.
One thing I like about the movie is how it doesn’t always feel like it’s rushing everything possible. I know that there’s only so much you can do with the time per episode but like I really hated the pacing in season there’s episode eleven, “Ladybug” bc Marinette literally is almost akumatized but she doesn’t get time to really sit with that bc the show has to rush to the villain and Lila and Gabriel. I can’t remember what ep it’s from but there’s a moment where Chat Noir and Marinette are on Marinettes roof at night and are talking about like their love lives and it’s a nice moment. And I feel like the movie had a bit more room to breathe and hold those moments. Like the rooftop scene with the ice cream. At the end they give a moment to just take it in. Their chemistry, the banter, and they’re just looking at each other. It’s wonderful. The movie is so much better
@@ThinkBoxChris this whole movie was great! And to be honest, I feel like the movie nailed the characters more than the actual creator. At least for some characters.
Already rewatched this movie ten times. Not perfect but does it have to be? It’s still fixed what the series broke. I’ll be honest, I like that Marinette doesn’t have a lucky charm, and just manifests healing since she’s the holder of creation and healing.
THINGS I LIKED • How the Kwamis is can pick the holders on their own and it isn’t up to the guardian to distribute them. •How the kwamis can now appear even when cat noir, ladybug and hawk moth are on screen. It leads to more interaction between the characters and the kwamis •The songs were so good ❤ •How Jeremy Zag was able to compile the seasons into a movie and transform a poorly executed badly written show into a perfect 108 minutes of pure joy, bliss and paradise • Adrien’s character development • THE IDENTITY REVEAL b/w Adrien and Marinette THINGS I DISLIKED •Chloe STILL being even worse of a bully and why did she not get a redemption arc? • Why did only Marinette have a transformation sequence. Do Gabriel and Adrien not deserve one? • Identity reveal of Gabriel to the world Btw I think that you’re doing a great job, Chris. Keep up the hard work 🎉 Ps I Hope you reply to my comment
Thanks i appreciate that. And my only real point i disagree with is chole since shes just a bully character here, and at the end she seems to have respect for Marinette at the ball theres a back and forth here and i like it
@@ThinkBoxChris You’re welcome But in the end Chloe still remains a bully. It is only Marinette that has become more courageous. I really thought Jeremy Zag would fix her character and give her a redemption arc but still, it’s not a kids movie without a bully, right?
@@animezilla4486 yea and this time maybe she will remain Queen Bee because it is up to pollen not Marinette. Also,I’d be fine if she doesn’t get the bee miraculous. I just want her to have a redemption arc
See i think that shows growth, chole repects her by the end and the way the two act, and even Sabrina now that i think of ot, it seems more like a game at the end. At the begining its just torture for torture sake but by then end when Marinette bites back we see confidence. The time jump from the climax to resultion can imply that they've been more on equal footing and i think thats smart
The thing with this movie is that to me it has a perfect start, but once it gets to Gabriel's number it starts to become rushed so that the ending doesn't hit as well as it could of. One thing I personally would've changed, is that I would've replaced the scene with Adrien being upset over his rejection, with a Marichat scene. Marinette and Chat Noir is one of my favourite ships in the ridiculousness that is the love square and the first time I watched the movie I genuinly thought that it was going to happen (just like that one time in the show when ladybug didn't show up to the date Chat Noir had set up so he decided to take Marinette to it instead cause he saw her on her balcony) so when it didn't I was quite disappointed. Not only would it give Marinette and Adrien more chemistry, but they would know why the other person is sad due to being the reason for it and could in a way try to make amends before the final battle. It could then lead to the scene where they have to fight hawkmoth where they start off working together due to that previous scene but still be overpowered by hawkmoth due to being kids and all.
I agree to the stuff you liked! I LOVE THE MOST! Is that adrien's dad realised that he's hurting he's son and after that he stopped. It's more greater than the other one that he's still hurting he's son even tho he already know its him and thinking that he'll get the miraculous easily.
I was just finishing your 2hr video, which props btw, definitely agree. Honestly, I've seen such bs in that show that even the movie, with its many flaws (ehem the destruction of Plagg's character just to start + hella rushed), is WAY better than the show. I can't believe that a rushed movie of 1hr and 40 min did what a show of 8yrs and 5 seasons couldn't. Haven't even finished s5, bcs even tho I can guess what kind of ending it had, due to the disappointed-but-not-surprised face my friend made when I asked if she liked the finale, I just KNOW I'll be hella annoyed and frustrated. So atp, I'm just gonna wait for reviews and drop it bcs it's ridiculous. They want to make it 8+ seasons apparently and despite the individual episodes moving like The Flash, each season moves like the continental drift. SO- all that rant said lol (sorry, I was just SO frustrated 🤣), I'm keeping the movie ending as my resolution for Miraculous, and imo (as a whole), I prefer it to the show (for many reasons too). Sorry for the rant and like many others have said, this movie is a giant f*ck you to Thomas by Zag, and I support that 100%. 🙃🙃
I think, in the s5 finale, the whole fandom was collectively screaming: " Creepynette Suepan Cheng! Your enemy is fucking right there, can't you see! CAN'T YOU SEE! DON'T USE YOUR HEART AT THE WRONG TIME AND SIMP FOR ADRIEN, CALL UP YOUR MIRACULOUS LADYBUG AND LET THIS TERRORIST DIE! TAKE HIM TO JAIL! BRING FORWARD HIS WRONGDOINGS! AND FOR GOD'S SAKE JUMP IN THE WATER AND JUST... GRAB... THE... BUTTERFLY! SIMPLE FORMULA! GRAB THE BROOCH, MIRACULOUS LADYBUG, GABRIEL EXPOSED, WOOHOO! BUT INSTEAD, YOU FORGAVE A VILLAIN, BUT NOT CHLOE! DON'T YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING, MARI SUE?! Overall, the fandom gives the s5 finale a 0/10. Why is Mari Sue still alive? Why is she still guardian even after she fucked up so fucking bad? Why is she still Ladybug? Why does Cat Noir still not know the truth?
I wonder if french people dont know that Careless Whisper is less of a falling in love for the first time song, but is more of a "im ready to slam you on the bed" type song lol. The saxiphone alone is just one of the sexiest instruments most of the time. At least in american music
the only thing I disliked about the movie was... Plagg. like WHY does he have to do... THAT. 💀 aside from that it was pretty good, definitely a step above the series. Marinette doesn't come across as stalkerish, Chloe is just a mean girl who's a bit of a ham like her season 1 self and has issues that can be fixed instead of being Satan incarnate like she was in seasons 4 and 5; and of course, a MUCH better end to the Gabriel Agreste arc even if it was a bit cheesy. the part where Hawk Moth turned the canals of Paris into lava had me like DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE, the show was definitely too afraid to go that hard oh, and a proper reveal which we STILL don't have in the series!
the thing about this movie was that it shows to me what Miraculous could have been or rather its appeal in stark concentration. Which is maddening since it took like 5+ seasons down in like 2h. I liked it and its infuriating because I was so annoyed and frustrated by the show. The animation is amazing, the story miles better and the characters much more enjoyable. It was silly at its core but also managed to also deliver the harder moments (if you dismiss a couple things like Marinette not rlly fully dragging Adrien away from the lava) The Musical part is kind of...eh for me..I love musicals usually so idk if its just "not the type of musical I usually watch" thing. Because the songs to me came out of nowhere and didnt have much variety since most of them were Marinette getting a confidence boost. Me and my friend just sat there waiting for the next sudden music number to see if it does anything different. And then there was CarelessWhisper. Twice. They did that in Deadpool as a joke. In this movie it was Adriens sad time music like what even. Overall it was an incredible experience of a movie if you know the show and all its flaws and faults. Im not really caught up but afaik they never even had a reveal in the show (that stuck) ?? Like the movie just did it in the best way and without any faux drama. It felt earned. I even liked that they cut away from the kiss if just to piss off the fans that should be used to this now. Like my friend is rlly invested in it and yelled out at the cinema alongside a couple other ppl at that moment while I tried not to choke on my laughter :"D Also when Gabe walks down the stairs all disheveled multiple ppl said "why is he hot" out loud and truly 10/10 cinema experience.
Their relationships (under their different identities) felt so much more natural in the movie than in the serie. And it gave at least a slight bit of humanity to Gabriel. Overall it was a good movie but there was too many soongs for me, I remember all the people in the movie theater feeling desperate whenever a new song was starting 😂
Also anyone else shocked we see actual guns in this movie? Like the scene with Mime doing the classic finger gun and shooting an actual bullet, was surprised they actually went there since guns are usually a no no these days in animation.
Please read this AU Chloe redemption arc "No Hawk Moth! I am a superhero! I am Queen Bee! Ladybug will come and fetch me when she needs me! I will never join you!" Chloe Bourgeois broke free from an akuma. It was astonishing. The akuma released from her picture with Ladybug and she gasped for air as she broke free of his wretched mind control. Chloe rocked. Hawk Moth shocked. He collapsed in his layer. "Dark wings fall!" He detransformed into Gabriel and looked at his ally, Mayura. She was his last hope. Mayura, her eyes filled with lust, reached her hand out for Hawk Moth as she picked up her ally. "I want to help you. All the way to the end. No matter the cost, my dear Gabriel." The two shared a heartfelt kiss and a hug as Gabriel cried... While he knew that Nathalie was risking her life, he wanted Emilie back so badly... They both pulled apart from the embrace and Gabriel felt his heart sink to his chest as Nathalie attached the broken peacock brooch. "Duusu, spread my feathers!" She commanded, as Duusu disappeared into his miraculous, a blue magical light covering the woman as she transformed. Taking one feather, she infused it with her magical power and nodded at Hawk Moth. "Fly, my akuma! Someone must be nearby with further negative emotions. Fly and evilise them!" Hawk Moth commanded, telepathically communicating with his butterfly from a distance as he finally sensed his new victim. Sabrina was tired of Chloe always waiting to get the bee miraculous and wanted to recover her friend. They could be Ladybug and Cat Noir for real... Sabrina was thereby evilised into Miraculer; a villain with a sentimonster who could suck people's power away from them... Meanwhile, Ladybug and Cat Noir were on a rooftop together. "How should we... " Ladybug stuttered, unsure of herself. Unsure of what to do. Unsure of who would replace Chloe as the holder of the bee comb... " I know Chloe made mistakes, malady. But so do we. Chloe has the true sting of a bee. I don't think anyone would wield the bee miraculous better than her. " Cat said, holding her hand and pulling her into a hug. Their embrace, however, was hastily interrupted as they were attacked by Miraculer. Pinning Cat to the ground, she ordered her sentimonster to steal away his cataclysm. But, before it could touch Cat, he ran off and leaped away on his staff, to find a safe place to hide. Ladybug threw him the bee miraculous from a distance which he quickly catched. Hawk Moth, from his lair, was in panic once again. Nathalie suddenly began coughing and broke out in a sudden sweat. She ended up close to detransforming, but, through all the coughs, through pain, she mustered the energy. At the snap of her fingers, the amok was released. Hawk Moth de akumatised Sabrina aswell. They needed to come up with a plan. "Hmmm. Ladybug and Cat Noir think there's still a villain and a sentimonster. We need to follow them around. We will find out their little secrets and finally seize the miracle box!" Hawk Moth told Nathalie as they both laughed maniacally. Hawk Moth ran off in one direction, Mayura in the other. Both began chasing after Ladybug and Cat Noir, but hid themselves well so that the heroes would not notice anything. Cat Noir, hidden in an alleyway, attached the bee miraculous. "Claws in!" Upon hearing the detransformation phrase, Mayura reached in the alley and grabbed out Cat Noir by the foot. From the ground, Adrien Agreste turned around his head triumphantly. In shock, Mayura let go of her victim's leg and let out a gasp. "Adrie-?? Huh, what?" "No! Plagg, pollen, unify!" A black yellow light covered the boy from head to toe as he transformed, kicking Mayura's face. He somersaulted in the air and struck a triumphant pose. " Call me Bee Noir!" Mayura had many feelings at this moment. Anger, resentment, everything in between. But... What to do? She had to fight her enemy, even if it was none other than the boy she had loved as her son... " Think of all the times you were nearly akumatised! How could you- "Yeah, but just nearly though! Venom!" Mayura was stronger and smarter than she looked. She remembered that Adrien was truly a monster of feelings. She may not have the ring, but she was the holder of the peacock miraculous. She put her fingers together and threatened to snap them, the senti boy suddenly froze... Mayura let out a triumphant laugh as she stung him with his own venom and took both miraculous away from him, leaving a detransformed Adrien. She ran off and would follow Hawk Moth's plan. But she wouldn't reveal the fact that... Their enemy, of many moons was their own son. She could tell Gabriel the same story and make up anyone, but in her heart she had respect still, for her own son. She controlled him but couldn't bear the thought of destroying him; even as she seized his miraculous. She arrived at the Bourgeois hotel, but saw something that left her astonished. A turtle hero, not Carapace, in a shield and Hawk Moth with the miracle box. Chloe stood there as she watched all of this go down, no Ladybug in sight. She must have escaped. Mayura presented her hand to Hawk Moth and he laughed evilly as he attached the black cat ring. Mayura then reached out her hand to Chloe. "What has your heroine, Ladybug ever done for you? Join us and your dream will finally come true!" Chloe's face was filled with anger as she knew that they were right, she had too much faith in her main villain. Hmmm... " NOTHING! LADYNOTHING HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING FOR ME! I WILL JOIN YOU! AND I WILL GET YOU HER MIRACULOUS!" She attached the bee miraculous into her hair, neutralising the effect it had on Adrien since it was now in the possession of another holder. "Wha-!" Adrien stuttered in panic and fear. The black cat ring was gone from his finger. The bee comb disappeared from his hair. He started cyring and collapsed on the floor, he was such a bad superhero and had failed as Cat Noir. Then he felt a hand on his shoulder. "You haven't lost me, my loyal partner..." It was Ladybug, Cat Noir thought... Yet it wasn't Ladybug. He looked up and saw a familiar face. Marinette Dupain Cheng. Shocked, confused... He took Mari's hand and they pulled eachother into a long, heartfelt embrace. Finally knowing eachothers' true identities and the fact that they were in deep love, but could never truly realise it. But they also knew that now was not the time for such sentiments. They were heroes, with or without the costumes. Once Jade Turtle was defeated, Hawk Moth would unify both miraculous and destroy the world. They had to act, and fast. Meanwhile, Queen Bee transformed after reprimanding Pollen for trying to reason with her. Marinette and Adrien had changed into superhero costumes so as to hide their identities. For Adrien it was useless anyway... But still... Superheroes always take precaution. " Tikki, Plagg, we're here! Everything will be okay! Queen Bee, Hawk Moth is our enemy! We can't let him get hold of the miracle box!" Ladybug yelled. "Venom! Hahah... You naives!" Queen Bee chuckled. Ladybug and Cat Noir were in shock and couldn't fight against her... They had only hidden their identities but this was magic... Mayura turned around and laughed, it was so evil, dark and twisted. But, what was even more twisted was Queen Bee as she used venom on the despicable bird's back, paralysing her... Upon doing this, everyone's mouth was wide open. Taking advantage of Hawk Moth's shock, Queen Bee grabbed him with her spinny top and seized the black cat ring and ladybug earrings from him, tossing them to the heroes. She warded Hawk Moth off and fought with her spinning top, allowing the two heroes time to transform... " Well done, Chloe, I underestimated you. It is because of you that we will defeat Hawk Moth today. Hawk Moth, today, whatever happens, it's the end this time! We are not seperate and will never make the mistake of being seperate from eachother ever again! We are a duo! We fight together!" Ladybug lectured him as she pulled the villain towards her with her yo-yo..." " We are LADYBUG AND CAT NOIR!" Both heroes yelled in unison as they advanced on the pathetic butterfly holder, having Queen Bee to thank for it. Today she had proven herself not just a worthy holder, but a permenant holder...
"The show is what the fans need" I'm surprised anyone still works with this guy. He hates his fans so much that he'd rather the show fail than listen to any meaningful criticism about it. In addition, most of the audience is girls and women, and he thinks he knows what we "need"?? That's almost laughable coming from this older man who has never spent one day in the life of a teenaged girl. Explains a lot.
i like how you compared this movie with the mario movie, because i did the same thing when watching it with someone who hasn't seen the series. although absolutely loving them both, i see them more of a reward to long-time fans than a standalone movie. sure, they're a nice watch, but nothing in comparison to already having the whole context and just enjoying the things you'd always thought of happening on the screen. (and of course, adapting so much into a single movie is borderline impossible).
While the movie isn't perfect it is way improved compared to the show. Marinette is shown to be heavily flawed, without the crazy stalker angle, Adrien actually gets to do something outside of make cat puns, the villains are shown to be far more threatening and even genuinely evil compared to the show, Hawkmoth is actually shown to be tragic as opposed to crazy and even Chloe only acts like a slightly mean bully as opposed to what happened in the show. Really does feel like Zag listened to what the fans were saying and check off every complaint.
The things is that this movie had an ending ,something that the show JUST did (after 7 years), but dragged on as long as possible for no reason (and only included one of the TWO MAIN CHARACTERS in it). That made the movie ok for me, not good - but ok. I personally think that there are too many gaps in the story and in the characters which makes it hard to follow and to believe how the script progresses. And while they fixed Marinette's character (thank god she is not a creepy stalker anymore) they made Adrien worst. Not wanting to get close to people bcs of his mom's disappearance (even tho he is friends with Nino) makes no sense - but then he goes at the fair to hang on with his friends? And after he gets rejected by Ladybug he taunts her as to "why didn't her boyfriend come and helped" while the city is on fire. That so inconsistent, as 5 minutes ago he was playing hard to get (by not answering the ring's alarm) because he wanted to make her more interested in him - but when he shows up he mocks her? Show!Adrien is kind and compassionate but Movie!Adrien just seems to be selfish. As you said, he only received the ring because it was in the script - we didn't see him earn it (did he even earn it ?). How they rewrote the rules for the powers makes it only more confusing - Ladybug doesn't even use her lucky-charm. In the second fight they had, where they popped the big balloon monster, it was showed how some buildings where destroyed - did the people in them just died? I agree with most of the points you made in the video, however, I think that when Gabriel realized Chat was his son he stopped way too fast - like, the was no inner fight or nothing he just ~poof~ gave up. Ofc I am happy he actually loves his son in this universe but that seemed too sudden (maybe that's just me tho). The plot was moving too fast and I didn't really feel the connections between characters. And as from a technical point of view, there where weird transitional cuts all the way throughout the movie (the first one I noticed is when she finishes talking to her mother then boom she is outside the door - it really made it seem that the movie was edited on UA-cam or something), the string she has around her waist to keep the yoyo just appears and disappears all the time (like she has the string even tho she is holding the yoyo in her hand but then sometimes it disappears when she isn't holding the yoyo) and the direct voice transition between her voice actor and the person singing just made it harder to enjoy the songs. I was really excited for this movie, but unfortunately I was meet with barley written characters (as well as characters interactions) and a script that was way too forced.
Well, I agree with pretty much everything you said in your review, so I'm not going to regurgitate it. I will mention another review that brought up Thomas Astruc a little bit, though, and it essentially brought up an interesting point. Can you imagine what it must feel like to be him right now? I mean, you've been hacking away at this show for five Seasons now ("hack" being the operative word here, as at least half of that was a total garbage fire). Then, after the Fifth Season wraps up, your BOSS, who basically said, "Hold my beer", comes swooping in not a month later, and in the space of 90 minutes, shows off a better product than YOU'VE managed to put out in EIGHT YEARS (Yeah, that's how it's done b[BEEP!]tch! Mic drop! Buh-bye!"). I mean, what do you SAY to that? You know, when I was studying Journalism in college, we had a guest speaker one day, and he said something that's always stuck with me. He said, "Journalism is 50% what YOU want to WRITE, and 50% what you think your AUDIENCE wants to READ". It wasn't long after that I came to realize this mindset really applies to ALL forms of writing, not just in the news. The problem is, Astruc seems to be laboring under the ludicrous impression that those two concepts are one and the same. I mean, never mind the fact that he clearly only had two Seasons of material and was just too proud to simply let his run end, then bow out gracefully and hand the reins off to someone else on the Creative Team who might ACTUALLY have had an idea to move the show and the characters along (hence, why he draws out everything from Season 3 on, like a damn taffy pull). But as with that "tweet" you showed, it's clear that we're supposed to regard every single word he writes as liquid gold. And to that, I'll just add that I don't think the problem is so much that we want Adrien and Mrinett's realtionship to end WELL. In fact, I would go so far as to say we don't want it to end AT ALL. What we WANT is to see it actually START. No more detours, no more resets, no more asterisks or albatrosses. Put them together, KEEP them together and just let the audience enjoy that payoff. I know that historically, writers in animation have always been terrified of romance, like having two of the main characters hook up is going to throw off the formula or something. But it took a show like The Owl House to come along and show everyone that that just doesn't have to be the case, because almost all of the changes when turning two characters into romantic partners are simply cosmetic. You don't have to call attention to it, you don't suddenly need to set aside five minutes for every episode to have them talking about their feelings and where their relationship is going to go that day. If they're walking together, let them hold hands. If they're sitting together, let them snuggle up. And if you've got a minute of free time, let them share a couple of mushy lines, play kissy face for 30 seconds and then jump right back into the plot. Seriously, how difficult is that? At least, that's just my thinking on it.
Your Intro really warmed my heart I'm so happy you're getting sucessful and it's cool whenever someone on UA-cam get sucessful because yeah getting there takes work good job man you earned it. Also yeah the movie is great loved this review. The movie's animation was spectacular. Main issues for me was the singing and pacing I guess lol.
Why wasn’t this the writing in the show if Marinette was not a creepy stalker and actually had character development I would like her I would give her the best female protagonist award if she actually had good writing
I've seen the movie when it was first released. Miraculous has a lot of potential for reboots someday like you see with Marvel and DC and this movie is good example of that.
Because they can't think over "astruc bad" Sure Marinette and Adrian are better but there's more to miraculous than just two of them ! They butchered Gabriel's character, Alya is just a nice friend and Tikki does not know the meaning of "consent"
You didn’t talk about it but I will. It feels like Chloe was toned down a bit for this movie. But she actually felt like a realistic rich school bully. And it helps that Marinette is ACTUALLY afraid of Chloe in this version where in the show she was scared for like…a moment and then the rest of the show Chloe was hardly a threat. In the movie it made the pay off of Marinette standing up for Chloe that much better. And near the end we actually see her kinda grow to respect both Marinette AND Ladybug. So it makes me wonder if the second movie might actually have some more prominent character growth for Chloe as well as seeing her be Queen Bee again. Just like you said, Jeremy was very adamant on fixing the mistakes that Thomas Astruc made in show and S2 was primarily overseen by Zag and that was the season Chloe had the most positive growth and showed the most potential.
That virtual child tweet just gave me dot hack series flashbacks. For context of the series. A guy who made the game the series takes place made the game to put a virtual daughter in there for a woman who died before he could confess. And you find out in one of the OVAs the woman in question was in love with another man, and was going to meet up with him to turn him down. Thing is as she was on her way she dies in a car crash, but he has no idea of her real reason for seeing him, and in turn believed she was going to accept him making him on this path to make there love child in a digital space. And that causes so much problems for the characters in the series to make his daughter real in the game.
This movie was so good in comparison to the show, but it would be so much better if it was done as a show and the story had time to breath in between acts. Like the themes, ideas, and characters are so much more fleshed out, but it cuts from thing to thing so fast it would give a new viewer whiplash. Maybe I'm in the minority here, or maybe it was a budget issue, but I absolutely would have watched this as a full season or two of regular episodes. The only thing I really wish wasn't brought over from the show was the media only ever crediting Ladybug. Not a big deal, just kind of annoying for "stronger together" in fight becomes "thanks Ladybug" after. LOVED Mime though, I think he's the first malicious, mildly intimidating villain miraculous has had, but I could be wrong.
Pretty much the same feeling on my end, Movie is ok but when compared to the show its an oscar. I got everything I wanted so I win! Suck it Thomas lmao. Plus, the songs are great when you listen to them separately and movie was so pretty!
I was shocked when I heard Gabriel sing, the song was actually surprisingly so good and catchy! I haven’t seen the movie yet but I definitely will at some point. I’m sad that they didn’t make Mari’s original voice actor sing the songs, but the person singing isn’t that bad, I also think they changed Adrien’s voice actor when he sings lol and they did a good job with that. Sorry if this sounds too harsh but in the old christmas special Adrien/Cat noir’s singing was not good at all. They got Christina Vee to sing in the christmas special, so why not in the film? She’s a really good singer.
Haha that joke was written specifically because my boyfriend hates musicals and watched this with me for my first viewing so i felt it appropriate to capture his feelings on the matter
The movie feels a little rushed sure but, it's way better than the rest of the series. THIS, is what the series should have been. The way Adrinette was written and Marinette's crush to him was way more healthy. Gabriel showing humanity, no shitty sentimonster plot, no need for Luka and Kagami to be victims of Adrinette's selfish or making their whole class involved with Adrinette's dating, no Lila craziness. The movie reminds me of season 1 and 2, how it was just the two of them bonding and at the same time, we keep finding out more plot stuff (like master fu, other miraculous). The only thing I geniuely like about season 3, 4 and 5 was Luka, Kagami, Zoe, some characters that I like getting their miraculous (marc, juleka) and some akumatizated villains (Qilin, Optigami, Miraculer, Safari, Wishmaker, Penalteam). The plot is so messy and genuiely tiring, season 5 is horrible. This movie and the specials are a fresh air to breathe.
This movie looks and sounds incredible. And it once again proves that Thomas is an awful writer and this series deserves to be given to someone else that actually cares about this franchise’s success and it’s fans. Also, I love the character designs. They look incredible. And I love how they feel like a duo! I just hope they make a sequel. (That isn’t touched by Thomas)
I think this movie should’ve been two films. Use the first film to really world and character build, showing Marinette’s hesitation to be Ladybug throughout until you get the carnival fight as the final battle, making “Courage In Me” an indication of the third act turn around that lets her overcome her struggles. The second movie can flesh out Gabe and the side characters more, having the same finale as this movie, but effectively extending the montage to a full runtime and seeing Marinette with her newfound confidence while Adrien is the one who’s struggle with his dad feeling distant gets the focus for the main conflict, letting the ending be even more cathartic for non-show viewers. This probably isn’t a perfect plan, but I think the idea works and would shore up some of the flaws the movie has.
Ehhh i can see the vision but world building is my least concern with things like this. What were told about in this fim is fine enough to get new people up to speed in terms of lore we can expand on later. I just think if it had 30 more minutes wed be fine. Its got all the right bits but just mot enough time to execute them
The movie worked because the manchild Astruc wasn't a part of it. It does many things the show wasn't allowed to (Hawk Moth being smart and almost winning with just the Butterfly Miraculous, Adrien snapping at Gabriel, Marinette and Adrien having better chemistry, now know each other's identity and not having Marinette being a stalker, creative ways to defeat the bad guy without relying on Lucky Charm, Ladybug and Chat being an actual duo, and most importantly: Adrien and Gabriel knowing who each other are). Although the movie did still have problems like skipping over Adrien meeting Plagg and making Plagg a fart joke. Unfortunately, as you can imagine, he is butthurt about people liking the movie more and is ranting about it on Twitter because he can't handle criticism. He's really saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, then keep it to yourself." Why hasn't this man been fired yet? He's actively holding Miraculous back.
I can resume it like this; good action and music, pretty animation. The romance between Ladybug and Chat noir was cute too! I still have issues with the movie; - Side characters like Rose, Juleka, Max etc who teleported and doesn't talk. That's weird 🙁 - Marinette has 4 songs and Adrien TWO which is unfair. He's a main character and his name is in the title. Give him more love! - Chloe was always talking about her and Adrien even if we NEVER saw thoses two together. That makes no sense! - Adrien helping Mari getting up in the library then leave her was rude. He was supposed to be a bit timid not impolite 🤨 - The villains didn't changed much when they were transformed. The mime and magicien just had different color hairstyles or skin. The designs were not very creative. - The finale was weird. Chat noir could use the cataclysm and we never saw him use it before, Gabriel had the force AND imediately reveal his motivations to the hero. It came out of nowhere, made no sense since he was controlled by the miraculous and was too quick. Also, both had one scene together and a 11 seconds conversation on the phone. It's not enough to developped their relation. The big '' emotional '' scene had no impact for me, i wasn't happy for them 😕 The movie is not horible but not amazing and fun either. If i have to rate it, i give it a 5|10. Not sure i will rewatch it often.
You seem to be stuck on how adrien is treated here which is fair i wont lie i get that, but i wanna point something out. Hes not impolite hes socially akward he doesnt have friends and is bad a social ques he just doesnt know those things like everyone else. Second its a movie gabe having new abilities because climax is something movies do all the time. I have no idea where you keep getting "controlled by the miraculous" he made it evil, like its him doing the making it worse thing. This reminds me of magnifico where people blame the magic item rather than the man who used it in the first place; its all gabes doing not the broach its not even meant to be used for evil so again no idea where thats coming from
Yeah, I just want them to redo the entire show, with Jeremy Zag as director and Thomas Astruc out. This movie version was just SO MUCH BETTER. The Marinette portrayed in this movie, I want her in the series. The Cat Noir who's given his moments to shine, I want that Cat Noir. Heck, they can even make the high school look more like the one in the movie. I really think that if they take some of the aspects of the series and incorporate it into a new series based on the Characters from the movie, such as Lucky Charm, they would have pure Gold. But as it is, man, they failed so hard with the series.
Never watched the show but watched tons of entertaining reviews of people ripping it apart. And yeah the show is a damn mess. The more "unique" feature of the show is the love square which as you said sounds cute on paper but my god I could not bare to watch the stupid will they won't they for 5. 5 entire seasons. And they're not short seasons either. Like not 12 episode seasons. More like 24. All I know from the show is the reviews of it, and what I got was, Marinette is a stalker who is obsessed with this poor teenage boy, said teenage boy lives a miserable life being objectified by all the romantic rivals Marinette gets rid of throughout the show because it's "romantic", the side characters barely matter, and the only one who does (Chloe) gets vilified and deemed as a forever evil entity (she is 14). My god. Miraculous is a mess. And like you I watched the movie. And... gonna be honest I really liked it. It's trashy fun. It's a lighthearted and very sweet. Gone are the stalker tendencies, gone are the continuous advances after the girl said no, replaced with genuinely charming banter and building of a friendship between both identities at the same time (Adrien + Marinette, Ladybug + Chat Noir). I truly believe the only reason people find this movie so good or better than the show is because... sadly this movie did what the show didn't in 5 seasons. The bare f**king minimum. I don't blame the movie for being rushed or having very bare bone fleshing out of characters, they did have to cram 5 seasons into an hour and 40 min. There are things the movie could have done better. Honestly the music was fine but not everything needs to be a musical. Coming as someone who loves musicals, this should not have been one. The show itself isn't. It could have been 10 - 15 min longer. Why did we need so many scenes with Marinette's parents. She gets a lot of scenes with them for some reason but the one character who NEEDED scenes with his parent barely gets 2. Like come on. Give those min of screentime to Adrien and Gabriel Agreste instead. And then use the rest of those min to flesh out the romance of the characters a little more. Especially when they're "off mask" (Why the hell would Marinette 'choose' Adrien, the guy she's barely friends with, over Cat Noir, who she has been through so much with and saved her life so many times) But you know what. It's fine. It's a perfectly fine movie. Nothing too wrong about it, it's a movie to truly turn your brain off and enjoy with popcorn. Some scenes are genuinely so charming. Some of the jokes are quite funny, the action scenes are an absolute delight. I have to say my favorite scene in the entire movie was when the two protags just stopped for a second to have some fun and play fight. I don't know why but my god that was so cute. Like for once you can see a little bit past these fearsome powerful heroes and realize the teenagers they are inside. Who just stop for a second after their constant lives of danger, to have wholesome fun with each other. I loved that.
14:12 Originally on an animatic, it was shown at the beginning the way Marinette and her parents travel to China all the way to Paris since Marinette got accepted on the college that she goes on the movie
@@ThinkBoxChris Yeah, that ended up being a scrapped idea that affects this part movie, tho I do hope they save that for the sequel to explore this version of Marinette’s character and give her better flashback that explains a bit more her low confidence and shyness, rather than the one we had on the show that it’s just insulting
I would have to disagree. Careless whisper is about betraying your lover and then moping about it. You will not shame for listening to "I'm never gonna dance again, guilty feet have got no rythm" when I feel sad.
Ill be honest most people havent listened to the whole song, we only know the interlude as the meme it is plus i thought it was funny. But you cant have it be an actual boner moment then a sad contemplating moment in the same movie
Apparently lego ninjago also had a problem where it was stretched out and characters started to repeat their own arcs. I'd obviously put more faith into lego ninjago writers than flash or miraculous writers but yeah
I love how Gabriel is basically in God mode at the end, levitating, using the force, turning water into motherfucking MAGMA while in the show he owns like 15 miraculouses, some of them giving him elemental powers, time Manipulation, all that stuff and he gets beat by a bunch of kids with ketchup and mustard bottles...like.. huh??? Considering he has the Grimoire translated, he probably has access to the power potions as well, hasn't the writers forgotten about those. Like it's such a shame he never went Astromoth or whatever..
Yeah I'd have to agree that he kinda drops the ball on all that and i dont know why. Like you repaired a broken miraculous but making the ability to go into space is to much I guess
Miraculous Awakened is conceptually similar to Pokémon The Movie I Choose You with it being a condensed retelling of an antimated series that ends up being the superior version.
4:07 "meanwhile in Notre Dame or whatever" Wait a minute, is that a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure But Really Really Fast reference?! I never expected to find one in the wild
I feel we can give a bit of a pass for the not-great explanations of the power system and whatnot because as you said they tried but I also feel it was a slight consequence in trying to fix the complaint of them using their powers too much because as we all know they use it every episode and when LB calls her Lucky Charm the fight is over so it feels they were trying to retcon that by showing the special abilities are there to help when they're actually struggling because, in the entire movie, they both only used their power once which is good but without the time for a proper explanation it's confusing for new poor souls hopefully they'll fix that in the second movie and focus on developing the world, the powers, the background characters, other relationships, etc.
Not me laughing incredulously at the end when I discovered “wait this film is the whole series and it’s better than the whole series 😂” like actually crying laughing. Yeah it felt rushed yeah it wasn’t all laid out and there didn’t feel like there was much depth to it but like idk, leagued better than what we have 😭
@BlueBlazeKing no i understand what you said, i was under the assumption she was the speaking va in French in the show so they used her for the movie. NOW i have even more questions about this contract because why hire a singer for multiple languages when one the other VA can ALSO sing. Its not like, Benjamin bollen and Bryce pattenbrook where one can sing and the other cant but still sound similar enough that its not a big deal, marinette keeps sounding like her balls are dropping when a beat comes in.
@@ThinkBoxChris not sure why, sometimes the artist or their producers want to ensure they get a higher sales or recognition for the album. The exact same thing happened with One Piece Film Red
I love how Zag told the same story as the show in an hour and 45 minutes, while Astruc took 5 seasons
With 3 more to go
To be fair - a lot of things were left out of the film like the other superheroes, the reveal to Alya, Mayura, Ladybug's role as Guardian and more. But I think they're saving most of that for the second movie where Mayura will be the antagonist and then in the third movie the story will follow on season 6+
Good because this movie didnt need those things its already rushed so working on the core duo is the most important thing
@@josephtafurwait are you serious? 8 seasons?? wasnt it just 6 or 7 planned just a year or two ago?
Money is the reason, its money
By creating this movie Jeremy literally said "Thomas Astruc's writing is pure shit" with all languages
Love it, love everything about it
You can say that again
Hell you can even make the joke he wrote it in gold just because of the gold intro credits
The movie isn't perfect, but considering what we've been dealing with for the past 8 years, we'll gladly take it.
Hahaha 🤣
Really shows how Tom was holding his creation back instead of letting it strive, usually it's the company that's holding the show back from being great by cancelling too soon or something.
When your best friend is your boss, its kinda hard to have any real oversight
@@ThinkBoxChris the boss being your friend or not shouldn't matter if you want to make a good show, if miraculous didn't get as popular as it did his friend boss would have cancelled the show eventually due to poor ratings and low performance.
Yeah but thats the thing, most corporate oversight is good, and your best friend shouldnt be your boss because if its popular who cares what your actually doing. Jeremy doesnt stand up to him and thats the problem
Which is incredibly funny to me because this film is closer to the original PV Tom made than his actual series.
@@MechaEmperor7000 yeah I noticed that too which makes me wonder why such a difference was made for the show if it obviously worked in the movie
Emilie’s ghost appearing while Gabriel hugs Adrien at the end is the hardest I’ve laughed in a while
Right! Its so goofy
Why was she so big though 😭😭 they did Emily dirty
Why was she so big 💀💀💀 That was so freaking silly looking
Im so glad yall are laughing too, my bf died laughing at it
“They shrunk while I was gone ”
This movie definitely benefits from not having Thomas on board and being a film. Due to the limited runtime, it can't lounge in the status quo and, instead, developed the relationship at a decent pace! Also, Adiran is actually getting to interact with his dad and find out he is a villain. As a film, it's alright, but, as a piece of Miraculous media? Breath of fresh air
Can we appreciate how Tikki almost said "You dick!" as Marinette was taking her earrings off? Like this movie was wild!
I think it was "dont you dare" but if that is true im so happy about it.
Fair enough
@@ThinkBoxChrisI mean every kids movie needs a swear joke at some point
I refuse to believe that it's anything other than, "You dick!"
i heard it as "you're dead" like "you're dead to me" for some reason lmao
You’ll be happy to know a sequel is already in production. And yeah this movie was amazing simply because it did in 90 minutes what the show refuses to do in 130+ episodes
Also love how it gives them a way to alert each other of an attack in their civilian forms via the flashing miraculouses. Something the show refuses to do so especially because they don’t know each others identities so they’re pretty much SOL if one of them is absent (and it’s always Cn absent). I’m willing to give leeway to some of the changes in powers too since it’s an AU.
That's great cant wait
That's amazing if we're getting the sequel then you know why I would like to see in it make Chloe queen-bee again
Hopefully Thomas will be too busy with the next three seasons of the main series to try to work on the second movie
What I have seen and heard, Thomas will no longer be in Miraculous show
One little detail I loved about the play fight scene was after Cat Noir kinda pins Ladybug against the wall and she tells him she needs to go. The subtle detail that, even though Cat Noir asks her not to go, he then drops an arm to give her a way out with no further prompting from her. Wordlessly saying that even though he wants her to stay, he won’t make her stay. It’s a beautiful moment of showing respect for someone’s boundaries and a welcome change from the show.❤
Right i loved that it was such a good detail. It went from pinning her to just embracing her
the movie accomplishing more in 2 hours than the shows 5 seasons while being better looking and better written so funny and it proves how much time the show wasted
Movie is shit
Hyperbole
I don't think Adrien calling Marinette weird is meant to be as an insult.
@@ThinkBoxChris I meant that as a joke! But I understand what you’re getting at!
@@ThinkBoxChris whoops I was referring to the character with the black hair and beard, that looks like Thomas. That he used to make the episode where he was basically calling out the fans or whatever.
Oh yeah thats also true. Thats just petty of him
Imagine writing a show for 8 years and make a trash ending, and 3 weeks later your boss releases a movie that is 10x better and took way less time
That not what happened
@@christ5431Then explain what did!
It's supposed to be a reimagining of the show's origins stories so they should've went all in (it also needed like 20-30 more minutes)
Also I caught how it felt that Marinette was new in Paris, too, specifically with Chloe.
Huh, i hadnt really considered that. Shes so absent from the movie till the stinger my bf legit went "wait who is she again"
@@ThinkBoxChrisyeah,Nathalie in the series is a bit robotic but in the movie, she's just seem to act a bit like a human somehow.
I think its the delivery hiven the dub, but she gets more human as the series settels. But shes definitely warmer here
@@ThinkBoxChrismmm,it is. I prefer this movie as canon than the series.
You know Tom is stewing right now because Zag managed to write his character and story better than he could.
I want Chloe to become Queen Bee again
No no , show is better and more interesting
@@Chris-x7m7n okay. Can you say exactly why you think the show is better and more interesting.
Whats it about? I know alone again was cut and its pretty nice but i dont know this one
I think they're talking about the song "The Wall Between Us" which also has a sort of mv? It's such a damn beautiful song fr- would've loved seeing it in (AND THE LYRICS ARE SO DAMN CUTE). But at least we got the bg music.
Thats good then
@@ThinkBoxChris yea just as @Rox7ne said, you can listen to it on youtube and its about the love square
Perhaps I just extrapolated more from the scene/song than was actually there, but I interpreted the scene as Marinette realizing “if I don't step up, everyone I love could die.”
Alya had just informed her that she was going to the coster, and Marinette was walking away from her dad, so she knows at least a few people she deeply cares about are in immediate danger.
I also think it’s easier to shirk the responsibility of being a hero when you aren't actively confronted with civilians being attacked. She might be afraid and not want to be a hero, but once she actually sees people in danger, she feels compelled to act. She cannot just stand by and let people be hurt. If she doesn’t intervene, she’d be/feel just as responsible for any casualties that occur.
i actually like Emilie's design in this one. she and her sister look off to me in the show
AND THE SCHOOL LOOKS LIKE A SCHOOL. the one in the show looks like a basketball court with, like, 4 classrooms around it
Huh i never really thought about it like that
fr
I think the movie is in every way possible better than the series. If it had 20 min more of screen time, I think it would be enough to correct those flaws you pointed out. Loving your content and subbed! Cheers from Brazil and I hope you succeed 🎉🇧🇷
Thank you that means a lot, and i agree the length coulda been a tad longer to fix that
I wouldn't be surprised if Jeremy wanted the movie to be longer but the "it would be too long for kids" cursed argument was the reason for it
@@nunomartins467 I actually don't think that is the main reason. I think it's a combination of what you said and more of:
1) This film is the second French film with largest budget spent to be produced.
Believe me if you ever get a chance to see season 5 prepared to be disappointed by the ending
the movie does so many things right! especially for being a 90 minute picture, i think its the best we couldve got, and im glad to say i genuinely enjoyed it.
great review as always and i personally dig the jokes, so do with that what you will!
Aww thank you, i like being snarky when i can. I hope i can do more of these things
Similarly, the lack of Vee as a singing voice is even worse when you remember she also did Shantae, which has normal speaking parts and singing mixed together
EDIT: Also the art is so much better.
It helps on critiquing films and fix issues, but at the same time I also can't enjoy films anymore since my brain is constantly nitpicking :P
BTW the last show I worked on was Sunny Day. I know exactly how the lower production hands feel when they have to animate crap because they need a paycheque.
Thats how i am with most things like its hard to turn my work brain off.
I can only imagine
Oh, thought of another issue: toilet humor. I’ve never been a fan. That entire farting bit with Cat’s miraculous was unnecessary.
The singing voice for Adrien is actually a different guy but the voice actually matches. Lou is a great singer but she does not really match Marinette's voice.
Oh yeah i know its not bryce, but its so close you cant tell. Still both did amazing
Actually I think Careless Whisper works for Cat Noir since if you listen to the song it's about a lost love, not a sexy getting ready song. Heck one of the lyrics of the song is, "So I'm never gonna dance again, The way I danced with you..."
Yeah but not the part we here
I would agree, but it is mostly cringe, as they only play the part that is meme'd to death.
Unrelated but I absolutely love the plushies of Riku and Sora and their respetive keyblades in the background. So cute
I liked that he called her weird, it made him feel like a person and his attitude in general is great. In the show hes just sad here hes got depth
Also Ephemeral felt badly paced to me too. But also it was just kinda a bad episode anyway but whatever
I agree with all this, and the episode your thinking of is gkociator 2
“Chloe, why don’t you…go fix your hair? It looks like a rats nest.”
*I think I fell in love with this Marinette.*
Me too, such a good line
@@ThinkBoxChris this whole movie was great! And to be honest, I feel like the movie nailed the characters more than the actual creator. At least for some characters.

Yeah I hope in the sequel we can see fu actually train them and more time to do more stuff
Already rewatched this movie ten times. Not perfect but does it have to be? It’s still fixed what the series broke. I’ll be honest, I like that Marinette doesn’t have a lucky charm, and just manifests healing since she’s the holder of creation and healing.

• How the Kwamis is can pick the holders on their own and it isn’t up to the guardian to distribute them.
•How the kwamis can now appear even when cat noir, ladybug and hawk moth are on screen. It leads to more interaction between the characters and the kwamis
•The songs were so good ❤
•How Jeremy Zag was able to compile the seasons into a movie and transform a poorly executed badly written show into a perfect 108 minutes of pure joy, bliss and paradise
• Adrien’s character development
• THE IDENTITY REVEAL b/w Adrien and Marinette
THINGS I DISLIKED
•Chloe STILL being even worse of a bully and why did she not get a redemption arc?
• Why did only Marinette have a transformation sequence. Do Gabriel and Adrien not deserve one?
• Identity reveal of Gabriel to the world

I Hope you reply to my comment
Well I heard the movie is getting a sequel so there is a possibility to do something with Chloe perhaps make her queen bee again
Thanks i appreciate that. And my only real point i disagree with is chole since shes just a bully character here, and at the end she seems to have respect for Marinette at the ball theres a back and forth here and i like it
@@ThinkBoxChris You’re welcome
But in the end Chloe still remains a bully.
Zag really gets it and I wish he was in charge from the start. I'm actually excited for the sequel instead of dreading it like I am with Season 6.
9:38 To be fair, Careless Whispers lyric wise is a breakup song lol
Right so good
I was just finishing your 2hr video, which props btw, definitely agree. 🙃🙃
I think, in the s5 finale, the whole fandom was collectively screaming:
" Creepynette Suepan Cheng!
I literally just got done watching your last video on the show! Love your reviews!
Thanks that means a lot
I wonder if french people dont know that Careless Whisper is less of a falling in love for the first time song, but is more of a "im ready to slam you on the bed" type song lol. The saxiphone alone is just one of the sexiest instruments most of the time. At least in american music
I love the movie, wish it got a wide theatrical release, and I hope it gets a blu ray release(w/ French). Also the show is a train wreck.
the only thing I disliked about the movie was... Plagg. like WHY does he have to do... THAT. 💀
aside from that it was pretty good, definitely a step above the series. Marinette doesn't come across as stalkerish, Chloe is just a mean girl who's a bit of a ham like her season 1 self and has issues that can be fixed instead of being Satan incarnate like she was in seasons 4 and 5; and of course, a MUCH better end to the Gabriel Agreste arc even if it was a bit cheesy. the part where Hawk Moth turned the canals of Paris into lava had me like DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE, the show was definitely too afraid to go that hard
oh, and a proper reveal which we STILL don't have in the series!
the thing about this movie was that it shows to me what Miraculous could have been or rather its appeal in stark concentration. Which is maddening since it took like 5+ seasons down in like 2h. I liked it and its infuriating because I was so annoyed and frustrated by the show. The animation is amazing, the story miles better and the characters much more enjoyable. It was silly at its core but also managed to also deliver the harder moments (if you dismiss a couple things like Marinette not rlly fully dragging Adrien away from the lava)
The Musical part is kind of...eh for me..I love musicals usually so idk if its just "not the type of musical I usually watch" thing.
Like my friend is rlly invested in it and yelled out at the cinema alongside a couple other ppl at that moment while I tried not to choke on my laughter :"D
Also when Gabe walks down the stairs all disheveled multiple ppl said "why is he hot" out loud and truly 10/10 cinema experience.
God, I would love an extended cut of this movie.
Jeremy Zag is the true hero!
I hope the sequel is even better

Hi, thank you
Please read this AU Chloe redemption arc
"No Hawk Moth! I am a superhero! I am Queen Bee! Ladybug will come and fetch me when she needs me! I will never join you!"
Chloe Bourgeois broke free from an akuma.
"Adrie-?? Huh, what?"
"No! Plagg, pollen, unify!" A black yellow light covered the boy from head to toe as he transformed, kicking Mayura's face. He somersaulted in the air and struck a triumphant pose.
" Call me Bee Noir!"
Mayura had many feelings at this moment. Anger, resentment, everything in between. But... What to do? She had to fight her enemy, even if it was none other than the boy she had loved as her son...
" Think of all the times you were nearly akumatised! How could you-
"Yeah, but just nearly though! Venom!"
Mayura was stronger and smarter than she looked.
Join us and your dream will finally come true!"
Chloe's face was filled with anger as she knew that they were right, she had too much faith in her main villain. Hmmm...
" NOTHING! LADYNOTHING HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING FOR ME! I WILL JOIN YOU! AND I WILL GET YOU HER MIRACULOUS!"
She attached the bee miraculous into her hair, neutralising the effect it had on Adrien since it was now in the possession of another holder.
"You haven't lost me, my loyal partner..."
It was Ladybug, Cat Noir thought...
We fight together!" Ladybug lectured him as she pulled the villain towards her with her yo-yo..."
" We are LADYBUG AND CAT NOIR!" Both heroes yelled in unison as they advanced on the pathetic butterfly holder, having Queen Bee to thank for it. Today she had proven herself not just a worthy holder, but a permenant holder...
That was really good

"The show is what the fans need" I'm surprised anyone still works with this guy. He hates his fans so much that he'd rather the show fail than listen to any meaningful criticism about it.
In addition, most of the audience is girls and women, and he thinks he knows what we "need"?? That's almost laughable coming from this older man who has never spent one day in the life of a teenaged girl. Explains a lot.
Looking at this movie, I actually look forward to season 6, knowing Thomas won't be working on the show anymore from that point onward.
I herd he's back😭😭
@@gamelover-rj1ey I heard he's still going to be doing consultary work, but he won't be writing anymore.
i like how you compared this movie with the mario movie, because i did the same thing when watching it with someone who hasn't seen the series. although absolutely loving them both, i see them more of a reward to long-time fans than a standalone movie.
sure, they're a nice watch, but nothing in comparison to already having the whole context and just enjoying the things you'd always thought of happening on the screen. (and of course, adapting so much into a single movie is borderline impossible).
Yeah i agree, i just find it aeird people didnt like eoyher for being for fans
ya know the Way Ladybug and Cat Noir argue is like Mamo and Usa from Sailor Moon & Rei Hino
I actually didnt know that since i haven't seen that but its nice
While the movie isn't perfect it is way improved compared to the show. Marinette is shown to be heavily flawed, without the crazy stalker angle, Adrien actually gets to do something outside of make cat puns, the villains are shown to be far more threatening and even genuinely evil compared to the show, Hawkmoth is actually shown to be tragic as opposed to crazy and even Chloe only acts like a slightly mean bully as opposed to what happened in the show.
Really does feel like Zag listened to what the fans were saying and check off every complaint.
I’m sure the sequel will be just as good or better too
The things is that this movie had an ending ,something that the show JUST did (after 7 years), but dragged on as long as possible for no reason (and only included one of the TWO MAIN CHARACTERS in it).
Thank you that means a lot
Why wasn’t this the writing in the show if Marinette was not a creepy stalker and actually had character development I would like her I would give her the best female protagonist award if she actually had good writing
Because female abusers is often setup as both joke and punchine and when your writing a show from that framework its not gonna end well
I've seen the movie when it was first released.
Miraculous has a lot of potential for reboots someday like you see with Marvel and DC and this movie is good example of that.
"it's not a mistake,...It's a MASTER PIECE!!!
I can agree, when compared to the show this is a chocolate lava cake by comparison
The film did a pretty good job on the sense of the recap but why is everyone doing it like this the film was perfect 😭😭
Because they can't think over "astruc bad"
Sure Marinette and Adrian are better but there's more to miraculous than just two of them ! They butchered Gabriel's character, Alya is just a nice friend and Tikki does not know the meaning of "consent"
I agree with the dual vocal choices and the "not from paris" implications. xD those kept taking me out
Yeah like i get adrien the singer and the vocialist sound similar enough that it works. But not with lou and Christia. Also right what was with that?
@@ThinkBoxChris yes my thoughts exactly! Adrien's didn't bother me at all but I jumped every time I hears the Other!Marinette
This .
This is how you write a story.
Objectively the movie is okay, but compared to the show it’s a gift sent from God. Concrete proof Astruc is a hack.
Yep pretty much. Also i wanted to say this before but i love the GE&H picture i really wanna talk about that show
@@ThinkBoxChrisAyyy 😎
Gabriel's mullet phase picture looks like he's crosseyed
“Oh god it’s a musical!run!” Started wheezing 😂
Haha that joke was written specifically because my boyfriend hates musicals and watched this with me for my first viewing so i felt it appropriate to capture his feelings on the matter
@@ThinkBoxChris that’s amazing I love that🤣
@dabreadgalaxy1302 yeah haha i just tey to make him feel included in all this
The movie feels a little rushed sure but, it's way better than the rest of the series.
Im proud of you for coming so far ❤. Keep it up, bud. 😁
Thanks shy
Its got all the right bits but just mot enough time to execute them
I watch your one video and now I'm getting recommended with basically the same video essay about this show
From who? And is that a good or bad thing
I said this multiple times, but i feel like this movie is just a giant fuck you to Thomas austruck from Jeremy zag
It really really is
The movie worked because the manchild Astruc wasn't a part of it.
He's really saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, then keep it to yourself."
Why hasn't this man been fired yet? He's actively holding Miraculous back.
Hes the creator and the lead writer and his best friend pwns the comany, thats why he hasn't been fired
I can resume it like this; good action and music, pretty animation. The romance between Ladybug and Chat noir was cute too! I still have issues with the movie;
- Side characters like Rose, Juleka, Max etc who teleported and doesn't talk. That's weird 🙁
- Marinette has 4 songs and Adrien TWO which is unfair. He's a main character and his name is in the title. Give him more love!
- Chloe was always talking about her and Adrien even if we NEVER saw thoses two together. That makes no sense!
- Adrien helping Mari getting up in the library then leave her was rude. He was supposed to be a bit timid not impolite 🤨
- The villains didn't changed much when they were transformed.
The big '' emotional '' scene had no impact for me, i wasn't happy for them 😕
The movie is not horible but not amazing and fun either.
Especially when they're "off mask" (Why the hell would Marinette 'choose' Adrien, the guy she's barely friends with, over Cat Noir, who she has been through so much with and saved her life so many times)
But you know what.
That's not really helpful since they never say or show it in a way normal audience viewers can pick up on
@@ThinkBoxChris Yeah, that ended up being a scrapped idea that affects this part movie, tho I do hope they save that for the sequel to explore this version of Marinette’s character and give her better flashback that explains a bit more her low confidence and shyness, rather than the one we had on the show that it’s just insulting
@lj8138 apperently its been made cannon in the show which is just odd to me because it seems like such a minor thing to add 7 years into a feanchise
When someone isn't the writer is better while the real writer suck😊
Yeah
9:32 this actually my most favorite scene in the movie 😂
I feel like Marinette is voiced by 2 different actors. One for her normal dialogue and the other for the songs. Does anyone else feel that way?
Yes.... literally bring that upat the start of the summary and the conclusion. Idk how you missed that
It may not be a perfect movie, but it was a good movie and I give it a 8.5/10!
Watching Miraculous and Wish within a month of each other made me realize just how much lighting can affect a movies look
Yeah thats fair
This movie is definitely better than how the show is with Marinette and Adrien. But I did not like how they did Plagg dirty. #NotMyPlagg
4:07 Viva reference spotted :0
ZAG truly made a better story and movie in here
I would have to disagree.
This show is slowly turning into the flash, making more episodes more season without any progress
I mean did flash have an end goal beyond the season itself?
@@ThinkBoxChris no, I did not have an end goal which is frustrating and you keep wondering when you’re watching it. What the hell is going on?
Thats a hot take, i like i choose you but ive never heard that sentiment but i respect it
4:07 "meanwhile in Notre Dame or whatever"
Wait a minute, is that a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure But Really Really Fast reference?! I never expected to find one in the wild
Haha yeah it is, i thought itd be funny to throw in a random verbal refernce
Yeah it felt rushed yeah it wasn’t all laid out and there didn’t feel like there was much depth to it but like idk, leagued better than what we have 😭
1:47 it was a contract with the French singer Lou Jean who got to sing the songs for both the og French language and the English dub
I mean i know shes the feench va for marinette but why do that contract
@@ThinkBoxChris you misunderstood, she’s just the singing voice for both
@BlueBlazeKing no i understand what you said, i was under the assumption she was the speaking va in French in the show so they used her for the movie.
@BlueBlazeKing i havent gotten that far into one peice yet, but still thats very bizarre
