In GY!BE concerts they never talk or show any sympathy or even acknowledgment to the attendants. They are basically the complete opposite to music stars because they want their music to speak for them. They want the people to focus in the music, everything else is just a distraction.
"SHOPPING IS PATRIOTIC, WORLD LEADERS SAY! one-two-three-four..." Above quote taken from one of my favorite bootlegs right after 9/11 (forget where now, I lost my GY!BE archives that I pulled from archive.org) and before they launch directly into "She Dreamt..." I'll edit here if I find it. Edit: archive.org/details/gybe2001-09-28.shn/gybe2001-09-28d1t03.shn --> Skip to 3min into the 3rd track, goosebumps
It's not music. No one can convince me that this is a music. There is something holy about these people and no, i'm not saying that as a compliment. I'm dead serious. And uhmm.. Well let's just describe it as GYBE. Speechless atm.
"The anatomy of Melancholy": such a sublime background imagery matching the obscure soul embrace of their sound. You may call it holy, initiatory; the nigredo approaching self through hearing sense.
I am in awe. This is unequivocally of the most incredible songs to have reached my ears and filled my soul. In fact, calling this a song is an understatement; it's an experience!
Fuuuuak the drummers' going ham around the 9 minute mark. I've always thought this band's greatest cinematic tool was the use of drums to build and deploy the climaxes we love so dearly
Completely Breathtaking. The last two minutes or so are completely nonexistent on the album, but it was definitely my favorite part. I love it when bands alter their songs ever so slightly when playing them live, it just makes the experience even more unique.
Danny Boyle once said whenever he makes a film he'll have a certain band in mind whose spirit he's trying to capture cinematically. The band Underworld was his inspiration during Trainspotting, for instance; and for 28 Days Later, the band was GY!BE. It's a cool concept I like to emulate when I write as well
Last time I was there, there was some old guy was ranting about coney island. Some other guy in the rafters started yelling about the government and paying a speeding ticket.
i just listened to the live album version of this song L'olympia 2003 I saw them at their re-union tour in Norwich UK, amazed they came here but even more amazed at how utterly incredible they were. Just so good. and to see Mike Moya play with them and how they let the music speak for itself (they didn't say a word) This track is so powerful, and the way Bryant ..moves while playing is inspirational also, what did you film this on? pretty good
Very strange title... I am assuming you are reefing to Pat Metheny - a guitarist / composer who has stretched, and reinvented himself countless times, while Godspeed... has been making the same 3 albums over and over again,,,for 26 years!

One of the best bands on the planet from another planet...
I think I'm 20% of those views.
saw this band a week after 9/11... one of the craziest experiences of my life

5:05 I was covered in goosebumps.
Simply incredibly performance.
Oh, I love that! It's amazing what music can make us feel (and make us imagine).
Ladies and gentleman. This is true art.

Favorite post-rock band. Thanks for the upload and keep rocking guys.
i prefer this to the studio recording. especially with the extended ending. beautiful.

breathtaking!
i would gave my life for seeing this performance alive, Breathtaking
Saw them at the ATP shows at Alexandria Palace in London.
Best thing that day.
Exploding Plastic Inevitable Part Two
Or perhaps that which is described as music in this day and age really isn't usually music and this is a rare example of what music truly is.
Listening to a GY!BE song is like going down a dark, desolate road through lands only lightly touched by man....

Absolutely awesome band, aaahh takes me back to when I first heard them, one of a kind!
@VexedFilms I just realised that I saw them less than 2 weeks before I cut my tendon and couldnt play guitar for 6 months.... ¬¬

Eccellente!! Arte, musica e....genio!!!
De lo mejor que vi. Gracias por la excelente calidad.
awesome :D yeah, he's really good and like the friendliest guy on earth, so I can't imagine anyone disliking him!
I am a struggeling writer, but with that music, my work becomes better :)

A video with the full montreal show would be awesome. Like, epicly awesome.
they keep no light, as i saw
it looks fantastic with video and massive wall of sound
thanks you for the video!
6:58 - 7:05 I don't know how they produced this 'screaming', but it sounds fucking terrifying yet so moving.
soul vanishing!!! I become the song!
They are playing "Dead Metheny..." which is a movement from the song Providence.
Excellent video.
impressed
I was there in front of them 2 nights in a row!!!
I wondered the same thing D: I even got a bunch of his records, cause after searching for ~metheny~, i came up on his name, and he really good.
I was there front of them!!!
Gift from god.
@rainesiac It all looks to be from a book published in 1621 called The Anatomy of Melancholy.
14:05 I would pay money for an entire GY!BE concert filmed at this angle.
that is, because what they do is almost meditation
So did I
who talks during a live GS!YBE show? wtf?
I fucking loathe people who talk at concerts, especially ones like this. Selfish cunts.
Last time I was there, there was some old guy was ranting about coney island.
Some other guy in the rafters started yelling about the government and paying a speeding ticket.
Skullkan6 You're cool
i just listened to the live album version of this song L'olympia 2003

also, what did you film this on? pretty good
4:26
I didn't really... I just thought I'd sound cool by doing so. :) Great band
amazing piece... hope the title does not refer to Pat...!
The people clapping at 4:45
instead of reading "Part" in the description above, I read "Pat "Dead" Metheny..." oops. I need my reading glasses. Great tune though.
7/4?
@Yiitvs they are disciples of the religion of music
would have been better if the horns in the album version were in the live version as well
i strongly disagree
Why are they always in darkness, never clearly visible? Now I'm even more convinced they aren't human.
I wonder if the title is a tribute or a dis to Pat Metheny :D A jazz guitarist, if you didn't know.
Thx ... I was going to ask the same question...
ticket?
Robert Burton as Dead Metheny. Correspondance des Arts.
what is the time signature
at the beginning?
7/4
6 years later
Sí.
I heard these guys before anyone in the world
some people say listen this is crazy..., i think listen reggaeton in fuckn crazy.
No, eso que mencionaste es horrible.
