The tattoo or Tā Moko represents his and his Mum's journey. There's a documentary on UA-cam called Stan Walker My True Story which is about their journey through cancer which runs in their DNA. Stan had his stomach removed in 2017.

The Director of the movie 'Origin' contacted Stan in New Zealand and asked him to write the Music for her movie. She had seen him on YTube with a cover of Kanye Wests "Ultralight Beam' Stan of course said yes lol. He and a small crew set about filming this video in New Zealand and finished the song the video etc in just over 2 weeks. The only editing came when the Director added some shots from the movie. It's an absolute brilliant song from Stan. So glad you've reacted to this my friend..

He belongs to the Māori tribe of New Zealand. His voice is so rich, it has a bit of raspiness to it. And his vocal box , does very well in the melodies. If you liked this song. You are going to love another song of his called “New Takeover “. I love it. I just can’t stop watching it on UA-cam. I also like another singer called Luke Steele. He is also Māori. He just doesn’t mention or speak about it that much..He has a musical group called EMPIR OF THE SON”. They have a lot of great songs.

Stan Walker is a beautiful human❤ So proud he brings our Māori culture to life
Kia ora e hoa. Stan is incredible and a taonga of the Māori people. The video is multi layered it seems. The scenes where it depicts water just seem to flow. The scenes of volcanism are slightly harsher, there is an open airiness to the song when showing the forest. That reverence to greeting the rising sun, I don’t know for sure but seems to be somewhere near the East Cape if I were to guess. It just feels like they would do that there as an added layer. You can almost smell the earthy scent when it shows him in the cave. My personal favorite scene is where he stands motionless with the ferns all around. It is a breathtaking visual representation of Aotearoa that just happens to have a song playing in the background that when added together are both greater than the individual parts. Australian Idol discoveted my 2 favourite male singers - Stan and Guy Sebastian. Both winning these seasons and having extraordinary voices. ❤ Stan's version of Purple Rain all those years ago is still one of my favourite live TV performances.
Not sure if you’re aware that Stan had his stomach removed and I believe it was not too long before this. He also had his bladder removed and has had 26 surgeries since. He survived stomach cancer and to be still able to sing like this without a stomach.. I have no words.

Stan is one my favourites, he won Australian idol many years ago. You should check him out covering “amazing grace” live the Levites. Another artist from NZ worth checking out is “Teeks” he’s got a deep raspy soulful voice

His latest "Māori Ki Te Ao", then some oldies like "New Light", "Ultralight Beam - Kanye West cover", "Amazing Grace" all live in the studio. Just to mention a few. It's amazing how he still sounds amazing if not better after battling stomach cancer and had his stomach removed!
