You can definitly see it is not in Daytona, just by looking at the layout of the track.
Lol I just realized that
You can see its not Daytona by the walls
What’s really ticking me off is the fact that no one has asked why they didn’t or couldn’t fill at Daytona. The road course hasn’t changed in the past 50 years so I don’t know why they couldn’t.
Daytona never had track lighting in 1966.... and it is Fontana because of where the sun is located... .at Dayton the sun sets to the west behind turns one and two... at Fontana it sets to the west behind the main grandstand... as it does here in the movie...
Gotta love how when he crosses the line everyone in his pit goes mental but Shelby remains stoic because he knew it was going to happen.
That and the fact he almost lost everything lol

I loved the movie, but now I hate Ford.
@@MsbowElite aside from the fact ford the 2nd was a terrible guy, why?
A good racer is worth their weight in gold but a good racer that knows their car like the back of their hand is priceless! Only Ken Miles could have pushed the car that far because he knew what that engine could handle
The hangar scene where he listen to the '64 Le Mans shows that well. He immediately knew the mistakes. And also in '66 Le Mans, when he said during the night and rain part "Easy Dan, you're gonna get boxed in."
Truth
plus that gt40 was personally worked on by miles and you can bet he modded that car to his personal liking when he was benched
That is acrock. Gurney, McLaren, Donohue, Grant, and, of course, Andretti were just as good, if not better. Oh yeah, Phil Hill, Bob Bondurant, Graham Hill, Lucien Bianchi, Dennis Hulme, Ronnie Bucknam, and Dick Hutcherson. And Gurney set the fastest lap at LeMans in 1966, qualifying first at 3:30.6.
@@russmyers6632 Just to clarify : Ken Miles was an excellent tuner and the best by far. Only Gurney managed to set a better time, but in the meantime, if Miles hadn't slowed down (because that really happened), he would have finished first. In any case, Gurney was a less skilled driver than him.
I was on the edge of my seat over this scene.
I was too! I dont usually comment on youtube, but i was watching this scene and it was if likeif i were there watching the race, being part of the team!
He won the race by 5 laps.
Kronos In real life, bit in the movie was another story! It was more exciting
I was literally screaming when Shelby showed "7000+.. Go like Hell"

2:11. This moment, I had goosebumps all over myself. I can't even begin to describe why it feels so great.
it’s so well done, the intenseness in the reflection in his sunglasses like nothing else exists but those two cars in front of him. Excellent scene.
In the cinema this was impressive
anyone with a real connection with cars should get goosebumps. i did.
I love how, in racing movies, downshifting to go faster is always an option.
One thing about this movie (though, it has been a while since I watched it) is even though it does have gratuitous shifter cam, the gear changes make a bit of sense. Down shifting when going into the tight, twisty bits. Up shifting when hammering down a wide banked turn.
As someone who drives a stick shift, when you’re going into tight turns, it’s always better to downshift. You have more control that way.
@@voicesofmarshians528 Lol there’s nothing relating to control. If anything downshifting makes the car more unstable because you shift weight to the front, it only benefits corner exit torque. He’s talking about the first part of this video when he’s told to go like hell and he downshifts.
@@eddieyakin5528 notice he said when going in into a corner..not while.in one. you always do all your breaking and downshifting before the corner.
@@marqueskates5873 you look like a fool shifting as you exit the corner, the car like stops (even though it doesn't) as you shift, as oppose to already doing you're slow "stop" before hand going into the slower areas, tight turns, so you come out of the turn smoothly and faster with out that pause-shift
Excellent job from Christian. You can feel how excited Ken is behind the seemingly calm “alright”. For Ken, racing is not about proofing he’s the fastest driver, he just want to show how fast the car he built can be.
Carol Shelby was a racer at heart. He tells a story about pushing a Jag through the mountains and staying right on him through the curves then coming down on the flat with a straight road in his Shelby. Jag just disappeared in his rear view as he pushed over 190mph.

It's crazy how unadvertised it was, I didn't see it in theatres but just watched it on HBO a few days ago and was surprised how good it was. Definitely a classic and a great story to bring to film.
I personally feel they tried too hard. As in, making the American look like the typical badass. I think they exaggerated a bit in this film. I definitely enjoyed the older Le Mans movie with Steve McQueen much more.
I thought it was alright. I think rush Is a much better race movie.
In reality miles won this race by 5 laps.
That's insane
Freaking awesome!
I thought it was 8 lol.
But yeah that GT40 would still beat the crap out of most of today's modern supercars
@@DeepGreenLimeshark it's a nice sentiment but no it wouldn't. The gt40 is my favorite car but it is very outdated.
Kaiser Knapp it would challenge a lot of cars today on racetrack at least Le Mans most super cars today can’t hit 220+ only a handful
There is something about seeing Ken pass through the finish line that is so satisfying. Then everyone else’s reaction encourages that feeling, plus the build up to that moment is so well done
Francho Cornejo and the music when he speeds past the final car just makes this scene so exiting.
“LOOK AT THIS NOW!” I love that part. He’s so excited.
"DAMMIT"
What i love about this scene is that you get to see how Ken Miles was living the race. Of course there's a lot of tension, adrenaline, technique, etc... but you can also see he's having the time of his life, he's having fun. This scene perfectly encapsulates Ken Miles racing. It's competitive, but also fun.

2:10 it’s so well done, the intenseness in the reflection in his sunglasses like nothing else exists but those two cars in front of him. Excellent scene
It’s funny how the other drivers thought they had a chance. This man literally helped make the car what it was. He knew the car better than anyone on the track and was by far the better driver. In real life, Miles won that race by 5 laps, everyone else was racing for 2nd.
Lol didn't know that. That's insane.
By 5lap??
That's fooking insane
Jesus.... so another thing this movie got wrong..... fucking Hollywood. Off course 5 laps isn't surprising seeing how far ahead he was on Le Mans.
Insane
it was actually 8 laps
I love how he miracously finds another gear during that final overtake. "Oh heck there's another one, could've done this sooner"
It’s fun, but damn it’s such horrid trait of racing car films. I hate it but it’s never going away.
Those 5 speeds had deep gear ratios. Just coming from the interior of the track, he had a few extra gears cause he was pushing past 6Krpms unlike the others.
Bro he downshifted off camera to reach more then 7000 rpm
Ken Miles's GT40 has 4 gears if you look closely (4th acts as overdrive bc higher than other 3 gears)
He upshifts in 7k+ and downshifts before corner for fast acceleration in the exit
Do some research on how manual works
@@LTKBrns I think the comment was about the 'foley' artists adding in the sounds of many more shifts. SFX guys have never seen a tach operate either.

@@neb4587 lol you're the rare exception I see it's okay tho most of us enjoyed it

After 7000rpm shouldn't the machine become weightless that's how miles died and shouldn't that happen here ??

Mangold you’re a genius.
Damn imagining having to race where you can’t go above a certain RPM would suck as you would have to basically know you can’t win the race while hold back on going as fast as possible
That's racing for ya
That was racing for many years. It's only been over the last 20-25 years that technology and material quality increased enough that cars could run flat out for 24 hours. It was fairly standard back then to run to a certain RPM so as to not burn up the engine or transmission.
@@Zarroc0215 most cars still don't go flat out
it's just that they have an electronic rev limiter rather than telling the driver to stay within a certain RPM range
@@TorutheRedFox That might have been true at some point, but I've never heard of that happening these days. Otherwise you'd see teams remove it at the end of the race to increase lap times, which you don't see in sportscar racing.
@@Zarroc0215 if it’s an electronic rev limiter then it can be changed in the pits with a computer, you wouldn’t have to change it out or take it off
What's about manual that touches soo deep.. fills you with energy like nothing else..
It's because you have full control of the engine's power. An automatic just leaves you only the gas pedal to control the power. A manual transmission on the other hand, you are telling the engine exactly how much power you want and turning its small amount of rotation into a shitload of speed. Plus you have to get each shift right to get the most out of it.
My 8th Grade English teacher once told us she'd only drive manual transmissions because "if I'm going to die behind the wheel, I'm going to die *in control*."
i think it's all the sounds and movements needed to operate manually. when you're watching or listening to someone driving manual, you see and hear the actions of the driver, and the reactions of the machine. when it's finely tuned as it is in this scene, it can be evocative and exciting, like a dance, or a solo performance with an instrument.
Driving stick forces you to become more familiar with the car. At a certain point, you won’t need the rev counter because the pitch of the engine is where it needs to be.
Something about the third pedal just feels so much better!
The pedals sound like controls from a F14 in top gun and I love how precise and impactful all of the actors inputs in the car feel.
Everything about this movie is spectacular! I'm so glad that I bought this on Blu-ray.

I forgot how truly fantastic this movie was and this scene is just perfect
I love how he pulls alongside, already going fast enough to pass the guy, and then *shifts again*

Though the character of Leo Beebe was exaggerated to be more of an asshole for drama, it was a interesting prediction of what we'd see in the years to come, where high ranking positions in big corporations are often out of touch with the very thing they are selling. Beebe knew nothing about racing and this movie seemed to imply he didn't even know anything about cars in general yet he somehow managed to be in a position to make major decisions that everyone would agree was not in Ford's best interests and in this movie, countermand Henry Ford II not once but twice and managed to not piss him off enough to fire him. Almost every major industry has at least one high up executive or CEO like Beebe today, so the trend is not so recent.

Shelby didn't build the car. When the program was moved from England to the United States in 1966, it was moved to Dearborn and Kar Kraft which functioned as Ford's "Skunkworks." The cars carried a Holman-Moody manufacturer's tag. Shelby was the program manager and that included engineering supervision, some assembly of specific parts of the car, and running one of the racing teams. Without Kar Kraft and Holman-Moody, there would have been no GT40.
