  • Tension and frustration reach their peak when Jimmy White drops his cue to the floor after missing an easy pot. He is the stronger player of the two for most of the match. Still, Ronnie O'Sullivan then gains confidence and starts coming back to maintain his chances of reaching his sixth final in six appearances at the Champions of Champions.
    The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
    Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
    This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

    So Jimmy White, one of the legends of snooker. Appeared in many world finals, a Masters title and a UK Championship. I remember watching him play against Matthew Stevens in the Masters, held at Wembley on UA-cam. He came from behind I think to win that got the crowd excited. So to this and Jimmy reminded us all of his old skills that contributed to a great match. I had the honour of watching the whole match unfolded while the United Kingdom was on lockdown. Actually watch bits of it every weekend.

    Man....That's just the way of the game. IMHO, Jimmy outplayed Ronnie the entire match but lost due to a few minor errors because he was slower in figuring out the speed of the table. When a match between these 2 pros comes down to the 4 final pots in a decider is just GREAT snooker. JMHO's....~Eli.

    The match starts with Ronnie doubting himself against a stunning player. Jimmy could have taken it easily but his own doubt gave Ronnie courage. That's where this ends. Jimmy should have dominated and I feel for him.

    • @conslin1147
      @conslin1147 3 роки тому +2

      Jimmy has a look of desperation on his face, as though he believes that he could start his whole career again off the back of a win against Ronnie. Ronnie looks more like he's playing a exhibition match and it isn't the end of the world if he loses. Ronnie loses sometimes... It means nothing if this had been one of those times. Alex Higgins and White spent a lot of time working unorthodox flamboyant crowd pleasing shots whereas (Judd excepting) most modern players work on precision consistency. The rules do not reward players who pull off a shot of the century and then miss the next shot because their position was a little off. Jimmy would have been king if the rules accounted for novelty and innovation in play, but they don't.

    • @Charlie_Crown
      @Charlie_Crown 3 роки тому +4

      @@conslin1147 I doubt very much that Jimmy White thought in any way a victory here rolls back the years and relaunches his career. I would say Jimmy has more the look of disappointment on his face, as he should do, after all, beating a player of Ronnie's class and pedigree, would have simply been, perhaps, no more than a nice warm fuzzy feeling for him, a little reminder of the player he once was, but he didn't, and he had the chance, but most definitely blew it. And although it's very true to say about flamboyance and crowd pleasing when talking about Alex and Jimmy, Jimmy worked very hard at the game in his prime, and won every major honour, except, of course the World Title and deserves respect, and even thanks, for the years of enjoyment, and drama, he brought to snooker 👍

    goddamn it, that is not throwing the cue to the floor.
    What you are saying is something of a poor attitude vs a frustrated reciprocation to onlookers.
    Its a bit of show and if anyone can get away with it legitimately, its White.
    If a no namer did it, it wouldn't be acceptable.
    There is a lot of back story to this, because Jimmy workes hard to make a comeback. He knows he needs a few breaks to possibly win a event, but not really, he just needs to focus, but also easier said than done.
    And by the way, he had a chance because of what Ronnie said, that the average standard is weak and HE'S RIGHT.
    So here is Jimmy, he's playing well enough, didn't expect ronnie to just lose so easily, Jimmy has trained hard with a mountain to climb in mind, now the mountain is a small hill and the mental voodoo got to him and I know from experience, that can be extremely frustrating and a helpless feeling because now for some reason, you can't bite on focus properly and once more, for Jimmy, even more frustrating because his comeback strategy did a 180, because if Jimmy didnt train differently and just played like he historically does without much "thinking" and Ronnie playing sub par, jimmy would have won this match hours sonner.
    I guarantee that is what the dropping of the stick means.....he doesn't have a answer in the face of never needing one and just like a high level jazz musician, now asked to play a basic tempo, they can't do it, as hard is that is for many to believe.
    That is also the sign of someone who plays by instinct rather than understanding what they do.
    Jimmy is a artistic non thinking type player, Ronnie is a mechanical player, but so high level, he can reference the alignments quickly because snooker is also a pattern based game at their level.
    If you notice Ronnie when he clears up the final colors he is often times in one of three places for when he shoots the yellow and sets up for the brown, which means how he typically shoots the green so from the left side of the table and he draws the cue ball back for the brown he's usually playing the cue ball a hair too close to the side rail and this sets up for something of an in between bridge placement but he's done it that way so many times that if you notice because of the steeper cue angle involved although not necessarily steep by any angular measurement but steep enough in which I'm sure many of you know that when you try the same shot you have miscued the cue ball off the table before and it looks like a very simple shot and it is but notice how Ronnie does it where he takes one or two extra strokes but it's all in a checking pattern where he angles the tip low takes a warm-up stroke back the tip comes up towards center cue ball he takes the stroke back again but dips down the butt as he takes it back and that produces an arc and he rocks it back in again to where now the tip goes in between center and the base of the cue ball and then takes the stroke back from the butt and high and then drops the stroke slightly where the tip rises but just in time to not crash into the cloth but he is verifying that final stroke based off of the three previous strokes and he does it that way every time so this suggests without a doubt that he's a mechanical player and he knows exactly what it is that he's doing and he's got indicators a feel and visual on the mechanics based off of what the tip and shaft is doing because those things do not lie if you pull your stick back in the tip rises on the way back guaranteed when you stroke forward your tip will now descend an angle and if you are setting up for a power draw like that forget about it you're going to launch the cue ball off of the table and vice versa a tip that is lowering as you pull it back will rise typically on the forward stroke and that is just basic mechanical happenings of stroke.

    Ronnie clearly threw that match. Very obvious misses with too much pace to leave chances. Jimmy needed a boost and Ronnie did it for his friend. Good. Id have been angry if id bet on Ronnie to win!

      Pity it didn't work out. Jimmy was too far away.

    This just shows you can't make any mistakes against Ronnie or he will make you pay.

    I've just spotted Jimmy White in our local garden centre. He's looking at a plant
