BTW 7z stands for 7-zip. Excellent video as always. I went the route with the HDD with my PS2 and created my own McBoot memcard as it required very little time and I've several of the MagicGate mem cards on hand.
This worked! Slightly different layout than what I had on my FMCB card but still worked. The only thing I am unsure of about now is what to do when a game I has is in the form of .bin .cue rather than and .iso file. I've tried two different softwares that are supposed to convert them but they aren't working. I use Windows 10.
also just ran into the problem of a game being too large to be placed onto the flash drive. I'm not sure where to go from here. The programs I keep reading about (USBUtil) seems to keep getting flagged as having Trojans on it
Cool, I originally did this with mine over a decade ago but followed an intermediate tutorial, the only issue I had was slow cutscenes which is due to the PS2's USB ports which so a USB drive 2.0+ read/write speeds will be reduced to the PS2s 1.0/1.1 port speeds if that makes sense.
@@blainelocklair You're welcome, I tried Grandia 3 but the intro took 3 to 4 times longer than as it would keep stopping for about 2 seconds like it was buffering, was running it from a portable HDD at the time. I bought a preowned PHAT PS2 and the Twisted Metal Black Online with the Network/HDD adapter bundle for £40 back in 2016. Transferring the ISOs from the PC to the PS2 via the network HDD adapter was really slow so I used a HDD dock but the transfer still took a while but was faster than FTP. Free MC Boot can also be installed on the internal HDD. Blue disc PS2 games should run better as those are CDs and most likely run at a different speed compared to DVDs.
@@infraredplayer The USB ports on the PS2 are much slower than 2.0 drives which would mean that the read/write speeds will be reduced to 1.1. Using bought Free McBoot cards can be problematic. I bought one off ebay and it works if you jiggle the memory card into the "sweet spot" in the slot before the PS2 will see it properly. The Memory card is a 3rd party one. I used it to make duplicate Free McBoot cards on a couple of my genuine PS2 memory cards which all work fine, no jiggling required. So in short, I'd still be happy to get one off ebay, but I'd definitely make a backup or 2 on genuine memory cards (making backups is easy)
I finally got the working PS2 39000 model and the custom menu finally shows and weirdly enough my FMCB 64MB card from KAICO came with two emulators pre-installed that's pretty cool. Now I just need to rip my PS2 games to ISO.
