There’s a myth in Okinawa which said that “Nika” is a fairy creature that live in Rubber tree. And you know what, this fairy creature scared of Octopus. And they believe Octopus here is Black beard, because octopus have 3 hearts and this is why BB can absorb so many devil fruits. Also, octopus’s eyes does not close when sleeping, and we all know BB doesn’t sleep so another metaphor here. And things like octopus have tentacles that suck and its black color ink also linked back to BB very well. -From Japanese forums
I'm just glad that Luffy is still himself and not a reincarnation! He's only laughing because of the new beat in his heart that comes with his Awakening
I was going to be mad if it was going to be a different being rather than Luffy himself. But I think his awakening is what he calls Gear Fifth cause he has no idea what is happening so what else is he supposed to call it? Hahaha
@@AleksandarIvanov69 it's like the failed SMILE's that make people laugh constantly... and also, Gol D. Roger laughed hysterically when he seen what Raftel/'Laugh Tale' held. Maybe there's a relation to that?
The "warrior of liberation" fits Luffy well. As it is everything he has done over the Entire Story. How many times has he beat the big bad and have a Big Party where everyone is having a good time? It also lends to what Mihawk described as the power to draw people close to him back at Marineford.
He is also a person who wants to be free and describes the Pirate King as the person with the most freedom. He also has a tendency intentionally or not of freeing others of the problems that plague them whether these problems are an actual enemy or their own personal doubts and demons. People follow him not because they are forced or compelled to, but because he inspires them to follow their dreams and move forward and they willingly seek to help him in return. Mihawk was right when he said that the power to have others willingly follow him is the most dangerous power in the world. This power suits him well.
I feel like this power fits the character perfectly. Oda has built Luffy as this goofy atypical type fighter who is lead by his imagination and desire for fun/adventure. I think it’s perfect
It also completely flips the script in terms of Luffy's fight vs. Crocodile. "You're just playing with your powers" or... something. Well jokes on Croc, as Luffy's ability is at it's strongest when he gets creative and 'plays' with his powers.
Luffy's abilities only being limited by his imagination actually fixes a flaw in Gear Third. After all, the bones aren't connected, there's space between them, but Luffy didn't know that, and it still worked how he imagined it to work. This could also explain why he didn't have to do a bunch of training for Gear Second and Gear Third, because once he grasped the concept, the ability worked how he imagined it would. Edit: After seeing Tekking's newest video and the replies to this comment, I think that I was wrong. First of all, now when I imagine what the imagination thing meant, I imagine Lyffy being able to stretch his arm, keep his arm stretched, and then hit the ground with his arm again and again, basically having the freedom of movement that Katakuri has. However, Luffy has never shown the ability to do anything like that, and combined with how the World Government didn't think it was worth it to go after Luffy until now all leads me to believe Tekking's theory: You only get the powers once you awaken. This means that while now he could probably move like Katakuri now, it seems that Gear Third still falls under "Silly One Piece Logic".
See, this is why i dislike how this power works. One piece was never this realistic. it always had some cartoon'y logic to it. Just look at Kaku fight with zoro. Gear third never had any flaws, it didn't worked at all from realistic perspective, but no one cared because one piece world is just a little silly like that. It's almost like we didn't had few chapters ago, a Pterodactyl who pulls his head to hunt, nor a brachiosaur, who is actually a snake. I dislike when series tries to "realistically" explain it's whacky stuff.
@@weathersama604 Realism in OP is tricky because in one breath Oda ignores it completely by saying the logic of the real world doesn’t work in the GL. For example, compasses not working and needing Log Poses. But then we get stuff like how Enel’s fruit doesn’t harm Luffy. Even though scientifically any conductor that is strong enough can overpower an insulator if it’s powerful enough. Overall, it’s weird how Oda selectively picks at it. It’s fine for locations but superpowers I argue is where he is very flip floppy. It’s why I say if you’re writing superpowers or magic determine how hard or soft the powers are and stick to it. Because it can make your story that much better. Fortunately Oda has a lot of other great elements that make OP the way it is. :)
@@weathersama604 The fact that you just tried to say that One Piece is being made REALISTIC because of this chapter of all chapters, simply because it's making sense of the madness instead of leaving it as a complete shitshow, has to be the smoothest brain take I have seen so far, congratulations.
Got the below from a Reddit comment, which blew my mind: "This explains the SMILEs. Kaido wanted to be joyboy and probably realized it had something to do with zoan devil fruits, hence specializing on creating them. Also probably why SMILEs make their users laugh uncontrollably despite being upset. They're enslaved to the aesthetics of joy while the nika fruit is the real deal and Luffy is actually having fun" "So far the only objects imbedded with devil fruits were zoans. Never paramecia or even logia. And that makes complete sense now. A person eating a zoan might be subtly influenced by it, like becoming more aggressive in case of a predator for example but largely remain the same person. If an object however is infused with a zoan fruit, there is no personality to hold the fruits inhibitions and will in check. That's why these items seem to have a mind and personality of their own. It's part of the fruits ability. Maybe this is also the secret to vegapunk deeming momos dragon fruit a failure. Maybe he was able to replicate the fruits abilities, but could not inherit the will of the original into the copy." Moreover, this synergizes with the fact that SMILEs were failed zoans that led to people having an obsessive fake-laughing trait. Kaido was trying to infuse the "laugh" nature or the personality of the last joyboys fruit with the dragon fruit in order to become the new joyboy. The SMILE recipients can't handle the nature of the Nika fruit so they get overwhelmed by it and become unable to show sorrow. "Joyboy" might actually refer to the personality of the fruit and Kaido was disappointed that Luffy couldn't awaken that personality either"
@@kkdssodjwjdjd5248 Oh yeah, because he doesn't just want to die, he wants to die after being defeated in a battle where he goes all out, which, now hat I think about it, is exactly the situation Luffy was in when he awakened the fruit!
Ohh so a object "eating" a devil fruit maybe could more accurately be said to be that Vegapunk extracts the animalistic essence from a zoan devil fruit and infuses that into the object.
I love how Kaido doesn't seem too affected by the fact that Luffy is Joy Boy, he's just glad their fight can continue. He was so into the fight that he just forgot all about the whole Joy Boy business and I Love That!

Alternative explanation for the hybrid form thing: Luffy's gear 4th forms are pretty reminiscent of Chopper's point forms. Also, this *really* makes me want to see Luffy eat a rumble ball, since they're both Hito Hito no Mu users.
So much of Luffys abilities make sense now and why he gets better using his gears over time. Someone without imagination and drive would never get the best of this fruit. Just think back to how useless Luffy was with his abilities as a child, where we've seen new fruit users be proficient after eating a fruit. Oda has nailed it on so many levels and this re-contextualizes so much of the story.
@@DavimonVtube it really doesn't. Without that sheer willpower this fruit is essentially a dud. I'm going to re-read the entire series from tomorrow and see what I find! Oda has made me revisit the whole story many times but this is different. Oda really has nailed it
Luffys power only limited by his imagination. Until now he believed that he has a paramecia fruit, so he never imagined, that he can have a Zoan transformation.
That...actually makes sense, huh. Though I feel like Oda is not going to give him actual Zoan transforms after all this time, hopefully we'll get more of an explanation later
@@Deadlightz444 luffy said something along the lines of “ it all makes sense now” in the recent chapter after awakening his df, so I’m assuming he understands the nature of his df now
When it comes to how Luffy's fruit works, the first thing that comes to mind is Sengoku. I think he's the key to understanding this. He also has a mythical Human-Human model, and the one time he fought, he did the same thing Luffy's doing. He didn't have any full beast/hybrid dynamic like other Zoans, but instead just changed into a glowing "divine" version of himself. So my theory is that when you eat a Zoan model of your OWN species (in this case, human), you don't get any Zoan-like transformations, but since Mythical Zoans also give Paramecia-like abilities, you DO get those in your human form. And then, once the fruit is awakened, you get access to that specific transformation that greatly enhances the fruit's special ability. In Luffy's case, this fiery-haired form (Gear 5), and in Sengoku's, his giant Buddha-like form. Imo this would explain why Luffy has used this Zoan fruit like a Paramecia one all this time. Maybe when Sengoku first ate his fruit, since it was also a mythical Human model, his ability was only to shoot those golden shockwaves from his hands, but without any transformations. And the form we saw in Marineford is his awakening, which greatly enhances that ability.
@@miyamotomusashi692 Yes, but he wasn't human to begin with, same as Chopper. His fruit may be a mythical Zoan but unlike Sengoku and Luffy, he transforms into a human type yokai-human. Luffy and Sen don't need to transform normally since they're already human, so they only use the extra Paramecia-like abilities in their not-awakened form. At least that's what I think OP was trying to say.
I really feel like Luffy’s fruit basically makes him the Mask. Jim Carrey was a normal dude in that movie that got an object that gave him god like cartoon powers. Luffy and the mask even do that eye popping surprise before they turn the tables and attack.
I'm really glad that you took the time to appreciate and talk about the Hyori part of the chapter. So many reviewers are just skipping over or waving it away as unimportant. It may not be the hypest thing in the chapter, but it still has a place and serves a function to the story as a whole. Really love the videos man. Keep doin what you're doin.
Personally, the things that really appeal to me the most about Luffy's Gear 5 are related to its effects and his ability to use it without having to use Haki. Unlike with Gear 4, he seems to not be using Armament Haki at all, and while its clear that he's definitely just constantly radiating Conqueror's Haki, the emphasis when he was beating up Kaido was on the Toon physics stuff. For the duration that he was holding onto Kaido, Kaido was also subject to the fruit's powers which is why he had the bug eyes and the stars above his head and all. This, to me, indicates that the fruit's abilities now just bypass Kaido's toughness directly rather than having to be supplmented with Haki. Which is awesome because Luffy already had forms that were utilized alongside his Haki and giving him a new form that makes him significantly more powerful without it is actually the right step to take. It puts the emphasis back on the devil fruit itself and makes the power he wields unique to him.
Bruh and this is gear 5 BASE FORM. Almost all gears have different forms so I’m freaking the fuck out just thinking of what forms he will create in gears 5 🤩
I think a misconception is this "toon physics" everyone keeps referring to. I believe the eye popping and stars was a drawing choice and not affected by Luffy's devil fruit. Luffy's devil fruit awakening appears to only tie in with Rubber. He now has more freedom to morph his rubber body and apply rubber properties to his surroundings. His rubber is also stronger. But we shall see in the next chapters.
Brother, you jumping off screen yelling is the same energy I had reading the chapter. I felt like I was gonna pass out reading this, had to take a break by page 5. So glad to be able to see someone with the same energy. Thanks for what you do.
I wonder if Zoans having minds of their own explains why we've seen inanimate objects only consume Zoan fruits. Granted we've seen like two of those lol. Also, this chapter just confirmed 33% of tekking's theory of Devil Fruits having their own wills.
And not only that, but that explains why chopper lost control of his monster point (the fruit will taking control) ando also why luffy is extra goofy vs kaido (the nika somewhat going wild)
"Nika" i think is based on the brazilian protector of the forests "Curupira". Nika silhouette resembles his a lot, even the fire on his head and rags he wears. And since Oda said Luffy would be Brazillian, that makes a lot of sense.
Wow, this comment thread is like the first thing I’ve seen that makes me not hate the way the power change is explained. It’s been so much ‘ooh look how it’s fiore shadowed’ and so little here’s why Nika being rubber makes any damn sense. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Eita outro BR que assite Tekking?Hmmm the fiery hair is definitely similar to Curupira but the tribal look of the sillhouette could be from anything (essa tanguinha nao e so do Brasil nao kkk)... if at some point Luffy twists his feet backwards as a gag or something I will definitely believe it tho!

YES! This was the piece I was missing. I started wondering what this would mean for the Will of D, since Oda now is making it Seem like all the smiling and joy stems from Sun god nika and whatnot and I was wondering how this connected to will of d, in that they all die with a smile. Saying D stands for Dawn and that they all have some sort of will inherited from nika = making them die with a smile makes perfect sense

This chapter is epic but the story is far from done. I’m betting Oda has a few more up his sleeve. I’m sure this 1 will go down as 1 of the best but I’m definitely excited to see the rest of the story
Luffy: “I’m afraid you’re in for a world of pain Kaido boy…A world of chaos! A world of absolute mayhem!” Kaido: “…” Luffy: “That’s right! A world of toons!”
In regards to Luffy's fruit being a mythical Zoan: Just look at Sengoku and his Buddha fruit. I'd say that Gear 5 is the same as Sengoku transforming into the Buddha. It's probably because they are humans who at the human-human fruit so they "miss out" on the additional transformations and only have their awakened states.
Yeah, after thinking about it and discussing with my friends, this is the same conclusion we came to. Most likely, Sengoku initially just got, like... IDK, the ability to remain super peaceful/calm no matter the situation, or had gold powers (similar to a non-awakened Tesoro) for a while and they didn't think much of it, then after he got stronger and older, awakened and got the giant gold buddha ability we see at Marineford. We have Chopper as another hito hito example (and like, at this point, Oda *has to* specify Chopper's model), but Sengoku is the only other 'divine' hito hito we know, and nothing we've seen so far contradicts his fruit acting exactly the same way as Luffy's.
I was thinking of this in regards to Brooke myself. I know his is a paramecia, but it has no effect until his death. who's to say Luffy's fruit didn't also require death to "awaken" a god
I hope when the stuff with luffy's fruit calms down a little, more people appreciate the part with Hiyori & orochimaru. That part was fantastic as well Edit: yeah orochi..both snakes tho.. still works

Honestly, this whole business with Luffy's devil fruit reminded me of a throwaway line I always wondered about. In chapter 505, Luffy tells Kidd and Law that their devil fruit powers are strange, and they reply that Luffy's fruit was the strangest of all 3. The Gomu Gomu no Mi was apparently stranger to both Kidd and Law than Law's devil fruit, which just decapitated someone without doing any actual damage to the body, and the head is still alive. Maybe this was a hint or just a random line.
And another thing to add is when in impel down, its also mentioned that the zoan type were really hard to go down in battle, hints for luffy fruit all along, from his previous enemy until now,he always comes back stronger.

I love that the bouncy castle idea somehow fits his actual awakening. he is using and deforming the area like its made of rubber. He did take the rock and used it as some sort of bag/ trampoline to bounce back kaidos boro breath, I imagine he can basically use anything as a rubber baton now.
Wano has reminded everyone that One Piece is supposed to be light hearted and funny. The whole story has been getting a lot more serious over the last few years and then BOOM Luffy is a Loony Toon. What a perfect evolution for the protagonist of “The most Ridiculous Story in the World”
ikr Oda already gifted us with some really cool character designs like Kaido, King, Katakuri, Doffy ,those basically give him a freepass for the comedic stuff, from funny odd gifters and headliners to queen's Serious/goofy character and dances to luffy now also taking the comedic loony toon route the route with the most freedom

Not many people remember this but the first mention of the sun god nika was not from who's who but during skypiea, an arc oda made just to draw that panel of luffy mirroring nika. Also in that same arc, he also introdued 3 other gods alongside the sun god nika being the god of rain, god of forest and god of earth.
@@sirernest546 I want to believe that Im is something entirely out of the realm of possibility, like a god above gods.. Maybe Sakazuki could be the earth god?
@@smittywerbenjagermanjensen320 tbh i'd prefer it if Im was only a pseudo-god - a human but with a crazy overpowered devil fruit and having undergone the eternal youth procedure in the past.
I believe the whole hybrid form stuff is different for the human human fruits since they are not animal types. Chopper also has the human human fruit, but since he is a reindeer he has the power to transform into hybrids. I kinda think of it like crossing dna, human x human = human like form while human x animal = hybrid form/ morphed formes
plus I think someone once asked ODA about Chopper's fruit, if a human ate it what would happen to them and he said something like the user is already a human so they can't really transform into human since they already are human, the answer was close to this so maybe Luffy's fruit doesn't have other forms or maybe his original form is human since it's a human fruit and his hybrid form is being rubber and his final form is becoming Nika. Chopper has three original transformations, walk, brain and full, so maybe not every fruit has to follow the same rule just like Blackbeard's fruit.
Luffy, as well as Chopper is in his hybrid form all the time. If you look at the other zoans, mythical included, they can't channel their powers while in human form. Sengoku can't make shockwaves as a human, nor can Pell fly for example
The closest thing to Luffy's fruit is Sengoku's and as far as we know he only had his awakened Buddha form, otherwise he's a regular human. So Luffy's fruit is clearly better in that regard.
Being a sun god explains his fire techniques so hopefully he will create more crazy fire techniques in upcoming battles. Maybe even taking a bit from Katakuri with molten rubber.
I don't think sun or fire has anything to do with it anymore, more so he fights anyway he wants and can just fight with fire. Maybe we will have the return of water luffy still.
I'm pretty sure Luffy's awakening is now him just being in a Rubberhose cartoon. You know, those old timey animations where they're always bouncing and can stretch and grow their arms all cartoony like. He can also just grab the world and affect it in the same way too. I think that's why we saw Kaido's and Luffy's eyes popping out of their heads like that. That's something used a lot in those types of shows. EDIT: I wrote this as I started the review, I'm glad you said this too. I know it's definitely not hard to make this connection given what we saw in this chapter. But the second I saw him grab Kaido with his arm like that, Rubberhose Animation was exactly what I thought.
Shanks definitely meant to bring that mythical fruit to Ace, Roger's alleged son in the East Blue. But Luffy just happened to eat it so Shanks made a "bet" on Luffy.
I don't think so. Roger didn't tell anyone but Garp about Ace. Someone could have overheard, but Ace was born in the South Blue. The only other people who knew Ace survived were a couple of doctors on Baterilla. Shanks could have asked around at some point, but even they didn't know what happened after Garp took him.
“The most ridiculous power” fits Luffy so perfectly. It’s so classic Oda for him to beat up Kaido in a cartoon fashion and creative af on Oda’s part. This is *Peak Fiction* ladies and gentlemen
Would be funny if Luffy couldn’t use the full capabilities of his fruit because in his mind it’s just “it’s rubber” so it pretty much turned into just a rubber paramecia.
@- SageAegis - so? It could be a red herring. It might just seem closest to rubber so that's what they say. There's obviously a lot more to be explained and they're def leaving out info for sure
@@shinkii5819 before people thought that. Then Oda dropped that “changing its name” bombshell. Luffy himself is an example of it because he thinks it’s the gomu gomu but it’s a hito hito so he doesn’t know what it is after eating it. Power wise people train with the fruits, the fruits don’t tell you what your powers are, they also use the devil fruit encyclopedia for stuff (names should be there but idk if lists down powers too)
I think it all fits perfectly with Luffy's character and the reveal was awesome. But I also don't think that this marks the end of badass moments for Luffy or something, by which I mean that this cartoonish happy-go-lucky form or fighting style will probably not always be the same and that its use and maybe even appearence will change, depending on Luffy's current state of mind. There might even be an "eclipse"-form or something like that later on, if he gets really pissed. Oda still has a lot in store, I'm sure.
That is an interesting idea. His gear 4 has multiple versions and his emotions right now seem to fit his appearance so that is something to keep in mind.
Nika wasn’t the Sun God because he had power over fire or light. But because he was a shining beacon of hope. When the slaves were stuck in the deepest dungeon, toiling in the dankest mine, their chains would be broken and their roofs that hid the sky torn asunder, showing the sun. And in reverence, Nika became the god of the sun. For wherever he went, it’s light would shine on the damned.
Maybe Nika was a lunarian and had fire power, Red hawk and red rock are still to be explained. Look at Luffy eyebrows after awakening they are the same as Sanji when Sanji awakened to his lunarian DNA. I stand by this further because joyboy seems to be big deal to King (Arbur) who is also a lunarian and was hoping Kaido was joyboy. Maybe this is why Nika the lunarian is a sun god.
@@biggumsyeetus9690 ok Sanji being lunarian is just a theory. Personally i believe it makes more sense that the raid suit activated his latent fires powers, just like Ichiji can make explotions and Niji can produce electricity. Bet Oda is just tryna troll and throw us off with the conversation Queen had with Sanji
With the way Luffy's Devil Fruit Awakening is about being limited to his imagination wouldn't it be possible for him to have both a child-like cartoon form and a badass serious form kind of like the way one punch man goes back and forth with different ways of animating serious Saitama versus non-serious Saitama? This could be Oda giving himself the freedom to go either way depending on the situation.
That would be so amazing A good example I can think of when Luffy got serious, was when he punched the Celestial Dragon. No techniques in the punch, just pure force out of frustration
Throughout the series, every enemy Luffy has faced has always thought of his ability as silly and wacky like when he was fighting Crocodile. Crocodile couldn't take the guy seriously so going along with that theme his awakening fits perfectly.
I agree that Luffy not being taken seriously is a constant theme that his enemies really should stop doing if they don't want to be humiliated. Many have underestimated him in both base form and in his gears and they have learned why this is a bad idea. This awakening suits him well. As for Kaido, he seems happy that he can finish the fight properly especially since the CP-0 agent's interference reminded him of how Oden was defeated. Which is part of why the first thing Kaido did was attack him for interfering.
Honestly Luffy with Looney Toon powers now explain why he was able to seemingly float/fly in the sky briefly during his final battle with Enel. That part has been bugging me eversince and now we know why
I'm not sure if anyone else has thought of this. But if Luffy is the Sun God, then IM may be the Moon God. The Aztec Moon God/Goddess was afraid of the Sun God, which could explain why IM has been trying to obtain the Nika fruit. And we know that the room IM was in was like a freezer, so it could be hot vs cold there.
we need to consider that the only other zoan eaten by someone of the same species (Sengoku) seems to work exactly the same, you don't have a hybrid because half human half human makes you human, and is highly likely that the gold Sengoku is his awakening (unlocking "god" form)
After 20+ years of having one piece and over 1000 chapters we just found out Luffys devil fruit. Man you got to love one piece and odas constantly making a fool of us

Just a random thought but I was thinking maybe the reason the people of skypia call their leader God was cause Nika was their leader at one point or someone with luffys devil fruit
I'm subscribing to the idea that Oda placed Marco near Luffy, so when this is all over he can explain some things. Maybe mythical zoans are all awakened to start actually transforming, for Marco he might of started put thinking he had some healing blue flames before he awoke?
I think what Oda meant by "Zoan Devil Fruits having a mind of their own" is that Zoan fruits tend to display the characteristics of the form they are based from. Like Lucci being more violent since his Zoan animal is a carnivore. It just happens that the fruit Luffy has is based on a God of Freedom, and therefore the fruit has evaded the World Govt (who wishes to control the world) instinctively. Instead it has chosen Luffy as the user because Luffy is the best representation of the idea of freedom. Not that a real god was stuffed into a fruit. I hope this makes sense, I am also very high right now.
yeah im sure thats what they meant; not that they ALL go around avoiding people but they have characteristics of the animal or organism they should represent
This finally explains why Luffy has such ridiculous stamina when he fights. He's literally a Mythical Zoan. No wonder he could last longer than Katakuri, and kept getting back up!
Luffy has officially become a loony toon. He has reached a level of invincibility unknown to all rational creatures. I can't stop smiling, it's so great.
To be fair rational thought has never exactly been the strongest point of some members of the Straw hats including Luffy, but that is part of why I like him so much. This is perfect for him.
On a side note, I love the Looney Tunes. They were an important part of my life growing up and they helped me to smile and laugh through good times and bad.
Can I take this moment to just say, Luffy now is literally the direct opposite of Blackbeard. I know he was before, but now, we find out even his DF is the opposite. Bb has the Darkness Logia, Luffy has a Mythical Human Zoan. Model of the Sun God Nika, which can basically repel darkness, because of the sun.

Mythical zoan fruits seem to have secondary powers that are incredible, and could seem to be paramecia powers. Kaido is a dragon, but his normal non transformed flesh seems just as tough as dragon scales, it could be that his fruit has a side benefit of always being so tough that it's made him impossible to execute. If someone didn't ever transform, people would think they had a fruit that just hardened the flesh. Marcos body can use his flames to regenerate when he's completely human in form. If he never transformed people would think his devil fruit power was just a healing or regeneration fruit. Luffy has always been rubber, but now that his fruit is awakened, who knows what other powers the fruit can give him, or if he's in his hybrid or full transformation now. But they both got other powers as well, Kaido can create clouds and has a blast breath and can transform, Marco has strange partial hybrid transformations, and he can also use his flames to both heal and attack others, even in human form. It's possible multiple paramecia or logia fruits are actually mythical zoan types, maybe even Uranus could be the hidden name of a devil fruit we already know.
I'd add Chopper's fruit too, considering he doesn't look at all human and more like Big Foot some of the time and a tanuki the other. We've seen other Zoans have perfect transformations while Chopper seems to only transform into Hybrids (with the exception of his original Reindeer form).
While we are on this subject, I wonder if there are certain fruits that possess the traits associated with other categories of devil fruits. It seems that in this anime while there are certain traits associated with different categories, there are also powers that can have more in common with a different one. Awakenings also could factor into this since they seem to stretch the rules of the devil fruit usage even further. It could also go into a theory I heard once about how devil fruits can be less restrictive than we realize from another perspective. They have a few absolute rules such as weakness to water and sea stone, but aside from these things it seems as though the fruits are unique with some having more in common with others that are similar. I am probably speaking nonsense since I am tired, but I hope something of what I am saying bears significance and is worth exploring.
We are finally getting to a point where a lot of questions are getting answered I honestly was smiling reading the entire chapter Luffy s fruit info And even hiyori getting revenge And didn't think that oda will show what gear 5 would look like in the same chapter of telling gear 5 Also joyboy the name looking at luffy currently and what gear 5 is The name might be literal for a boy who spread joy Or someone who was always joyous
Gorosei: We've failed to obtain the Gomu Gomu no Mi for eras. WG: Although we've failed for eras to get the Gomu Gomu no Mi, we're still locking you up Who's Who for letting the fruit get stolen. Who's Who: So this Devil Fruit actively avoids getting caught by the world government for eras but you're still locking me up for it being stolen? WG: Exactly.
who's who: but why wg : .................because................ this time might of been different if you hadnt failed..... yes............... thats the reason....................... and not because we are being petty or anything.
He's ALWAYS had these abilities. Gear Third is literally just the Looney Toons thing where they blow into their thumb and their hand gets big. Anyone complaining about that aspect of it, hasn't been paying attention
Yeah, honestly I always thought since gear third and beyond was introduced that it was a bit of a reach for people to really think that Luffy had enough air to blow into his thumb to make his arm that big. Even by One Piece standards, that was pretty wacky. And low and behold, there was more to it after all.
Just realized Oda has been going with all the parallels of the chapter these past few chapters so I'm glad you didn't gloss over the hiyori part. I agree, the warrior of liberation don't just apply to luffy as this was also a chapter with parallels on it. Great video, dude! I actually got chills on "I am Kozuki Hiyori!"
I wasn’t a manga reader around the time Gear 4th first came. But I can only imagine that time pales in comparison to what’s going on now. What a chapter folks. My mind is blown 😵💫🤯
I started reading around the katakuri fight cause I felt the anime was dragging things on too long. Which I've noticed happened increasingly more in wano especially with yasu's execution taking 3 whole episodes. I can confidently say that I prefer reading over watching now though, especially because of moments like this
I do remember alot of people not liking G4 design, couse it looked weird and goofy with Luffynot being able tobjust stand and bounce around all the time, but as Matthew sais it grows on you and I think thr haters will like this form in a while as well (I love 2bh, it's cool, original and different)
This might be my favorite chapter of the entire series, right behind 967. Everything about Luffy in this chapter just enthralled and excited me, on top of the gorgeous and goofy panels where he bounces around and goes full Chuck Jones. With that and the Hiyori/Orochi business and I was glued to my seat every time I read it. Not even mentioning how well it continues Kaido’s fantastic characterization.
This would explain why Gear 3rd, Red Hawk, and that Thor attack works it’s because it’s how Luffy Imagines it would work, also Snakeman arms chasing you on a dime
@@celestialcreeper8736 i can see that being the case, but now I’m hoping it’s because luffys DF is the sun god and therefore can make himself be on fire

I think this is the exact same thing that happened during Robin's battle. The ability to sprout limbs is the basic ability of her demonic powers. And over the time she managed to develop it to the point at which she could merge them and create the giant versions. Eventually she became skilled enough and accepted being a demon/devil. Luffy also started to develop the powers of Nika by using "training wheels". He learned to manipulate his body more and more over time until his understanding of his abilities eventually aligned with those of Nika. It's also propably fair to assume that the devil fruits themselves might have influenced the last step of that progress, given what the Gorosei mentioned about the mythical devil fruits. Considering that neither Luffy nor Robin seem to have a definitive hybrid form, that's perhaps a side effect of them eating zoans that belong to their own species. Alternatively it might be a general aspect of the mythical devil fruits. I don't think any of the known users have shown a clear hybrid form like the usual zoans. It either seems to manifest as a spectrum like Luffy's gears, or the users only partially transform their body like Marco. A reason for that might be the fact that none of the mythical creatures actually have defined appearance. Nika Robin's demon and even Sengoku's Buddha are primarily defined by their reality bending abilities while their human appearance is pretty much just tied to the individual apperance of that human. Meanwhile Marco's pheonix or even Devon's nine tailed fox are mostly known for their intangible or variable form.
yeah i thought robin's fruit was a paramecia. guessing this might be head cannon. as for my thought's on luffy's fruit being a zoan i just went on the thought of how oda explained what would happen if a human at chopper's fruit a little. since luffy is already a human then that pretty much hides the human part till he awakens it. also this thought process has made me think of how does sengoku's devil fruit works. maybe these mythical human human fruit's true forms are an effect of their awakening? but this is just a theory that came up.
This is one of the most important chapters ever. Completely flips what’ve known for so long and it’s absolutely insane. I think I’ve read the chapter multiple times because I can’t believe it! Luffy is ready to become pirate king.
to be fair, zoan fruits having their own will has been somewhat confirmed since the alabasta days? because they can give intelligence and awareness and a will to objects. that dog gun was moving with the mind of a dog, not a gun. same for the elephant sword and the tanuki teapot. like I just kind of always assumed this so it's not blowing my mind lol and we knew also that they give animal instincts to humans through rob lucci I'm pretty sure? but I don't remember that all that well
@@pegasBaO23 I think they just said the will was there? which yeah makes sense. but also it's still a fruit so who eats it is just kinda up to fate and maybe people knowing whether or not this fruit wants to be eaten by them or not. like the elders just THINK the fruit was evading them on its own but it's also possible people (like, say, shanks) knew of its importance and protected it from the wg in various ways throughout the centuries
@@TheNeilChatelain this i disagree w, SSJ 4 was fire because it was different from Gokus other transformation which were just hair dyes. Ultra instinct is absolutely dope tho I won't lie to you.
This was the first time I cried out of excessive laughter reading a chapter. The "Laughter is contagious" quote is a total understatement, bc the entirety of the fandom laughed our hearts out for sure. As for the rather serious parts, Hiyori accomplished her mission for the raid brilliantly! She did it like a true Kozuki and I loved it. Also the Gorosei are getting more intriguing every time they appear. I need more of these! Now we wait for Nika Luffy to go even more bananas to finish Kaido off
Zoan fruits having minds of their own also explains how inanimate objects have been able to have zoan devil fruits. An example would be that elephant sword that Spandam has. Also explains why the impel down guards kinda lost their minds when they awakend.
And the argument about how zoan fruits can somehow avoid people or group that they don't like also explain why the basic hito hito got to Chopper, an animal
I AM SO GLADD that it isn't reincarnation just a title, the whole "the fruit's boundaries is the user's imagination" was even better!! I'm really glad its hard work and stuff and not just some op fruit.
It is a reincarnation because it's in the devil fruit. I am convinced you people are experiencing the first stage of grief because Luffy wasn't what died in chapter 1043, One Piece died in 1043.
I am still a bit disappointed that the fruit is so special for a variety of reasons. E.g. originally the gum gum fruit was one of the weaker fruits at face value. And it was a testament of ruffys tenacity that he was able to make it work. Which reinforced one piece theme that everyone could be powerful if he did the right things. Now its just one of the most legendary fruits of all... Also that ruffy appearantly became a chosen one, not because of his actions but primarly because he happened to eat the right fruit. It again undermines his journey to king of the pirates. A title which in theory should be open to anyone. But know ruffy just happens to own the cheat code necessary. This and other things related to the gum gum fruit weaken ruffys journey and identity in my opinion. I would have preferred if Joy Boy is not bound to a singular fruit you ate, but a title claimable by everyone through their personal deeds.
I LOVE THE comparison you did at the end between Luffys Gear 5th and all the other Anime Characters maxed out powers! 😆😆 YOU HAVE AMAZING ENERGY! Keep it up!!
The Fruit suits Luffy like a glove and it explains so much about his abilities. Also Shanks in chapter 1 makes perfect sense. What the fruit can do is limited by imagination. So what's the perfect way to hide this fruit somewhat? Tell Luffy that it makes him a rubber human. He wouldn't be too flashy, he wouldn't stand out as much. It's the perfect way to manipulate Luffy.
@A Great Man Named Lieu This is a fruit that's been evading the WG for 800 years, I doubt normal rules apply here. It won't tell you it's true name until it finds you worthy, almost like a Zanpakuto in Bleach. It has it's own "will" which they clearly stated.
maybe you should reread the chapter. It literally says it gives the user the properties of rubber, and the awakening strengthens those properties and gives them more freedom. He doesn't manipulate reality or anything, he's just more rubbery and can effect stuff around him.
@A Great Man Named Lieu i watched a video somewhere that said you don't know what's the name of the fruit after you eat it. Its when you use its abilities and check it in the encyclopedia.
For those that are thinking once you eat the fruit you know it's name, I believe that has been explained by Steve Paul as a translation thing where in the original japanese they never said that you learn the name
I’m glad ODA didn’t go for the effortlessly edgy transformation where he doesn’t seem like himself anymore, it’s still goofy and fun so it’s totally luffy
@@christhefiend that’s not why, it’s literally just how his character is, and it’s how joy boy has always been, bring joy and laughter. it wouldn’t make sense for it to be an edgy all serious transformation now would it? He’s had plenty of cool badass moments, this just isn’t one of em badass ones, still cool though. Edit:fixed a typo
Remember, awakened Zoans typically have a powerful healing factor. So Luffy being a Mythical Zoan and awakening his fruit would be a good explanation for how he suddenly revitalizes his stamina after getting beaten to the brink of death.
I think it might be a mistake to assume that the mythical beings of the mythical zoans are "real" externally to the fruits. It has never been confirmed that any mythical creature, whether the phoenix, buddha, kaido's dragon, etc were historical creatures as far as I'm aware. And in that case whether the fruit is mimicking them, contains their "essence" or whatever. All that can be stated is that they have myths, the deities were worshipped etc. But in that case, the devil fruit could for example be mimicking the myth, it could be manifesting the concept or idea of the creature, figure or ability regardless of if they are real. Alternatively the myths could have come from the devil fruits themselves. For example the phoenix fruit giving rise to the myth of the phoenix. Since we don't understand the origin and nature of devil fruits it becomes too speculative to assume anything.
i mean, we have confirmation of there being giant devils like Oars and Oars Jr. We know that there have been even crazier creatures from the ginormouse size of the skull dome of Onigashima. We have winged people who came from the moon, there are space pirates, also black winged counterparts to the skypians called the lunarians who can manipulate fire at will by nature. The idea of dragons existing is not that far off for the one piece world since there are so many exotic creatures living in it like Zunesha. Ancient zoans are the closest things we have to mythical zoans, i think the only thing that differences them and makes them scarce and special is that mythical zoans are probably waaaay older than ancient ones, making them extremely rare and making it seem as if they came from myth. As for the Buddah and Nika, Buddah in our world was a man that reached enlightenment and gained the status of a god (still a man not an omnipotent being), Nika was apparently also a man, who by some means gained the status of a god, but still, a man. In my opinion I believe all theses mythical zoans were beings that actually existed, just way way ago and it wouldnt make sense for all the other devil fruits be real and established concepts/ creatures and then just have some random made up ones.
@@zertsu but then we have to consider regular zoans. Is a basic dog zoan the power of one specific dog? Is the mochi fruit then the power of one specific batch of mochi? If we're looking for consistency and mythical zoans in particular correspond to very specific individuals (rather than ideas, concepts etc), then we'd either have a class of devil fruits operating under a completely different mechanism (imprisoning specific spirits) than others (broadly allowing the manipulation of a substance, concept or element), or we would need other fruits as well to have some individual nature (like the flame fruit having captured the essence of a specific flame), thereby making other fruits sort of the same as zoan fruits, aside from being non-biological.
I still think they are ancient bioweapons meant to make super soldiers through "Liniage factor" manipulation Its why VegaPunk could make Momo's fruit aside from him being pink(Vegapunk might be OCD and it being pink="failure") and even a hack like Cesar can sort of get Zoanish abilities .00001% of 10,000 tries
I've seen a lot of people get caught up in the whole "how does Luffy having a Sun God fruit have anything to do with him having a rubber body" and I think those guys miss the point a bit: Nika is the embodyment of freedom and so the basic form of the fruit is freedom over one's body - it just seems like a rubber body to people that see it.
Not agreeing or disagreeing, but Luffy does have a rubber body! It was stated by the Gorosei in this chapter and it was shown in the fight against Enel.
I think it actually is rubber because he gets insulated from lightning and such, but it’s just pre-Niko is rubber because that’s the “starting option” closest to freedom. So it’s not that he just appears as rubber, he actually is rubber but it’s that way because pre-Niko freedom has to be embodied in some type of ability that grants freedom.
I still don't really get it. So are you saying the devil fruit is about the concept of freedom? So the user can decide whatever they want their body to be made out of and then the fruit will allow them to exhibit those traits?
The more I think about it the more I love how oda wrote this. Luffy is just a guy who wants to be the most free and have fun with his friends. It makes perfect sense that this power up isn’t bad ass like Super Sayian or the 9 tails cloak. It makes sense that he is joyous and goofy because that is the exact opposite of what the world gov wants in one piece.
even if he is OP it’s not like he’s gonna cake walk the rest of the series. we don’t know the extent of the goroseis powers (i’m assuming their badass), imu, blackbeard really any end game villain
Hey Tekking, I think this further emphasizes that this is a story that's passed. A story meant to bring smiles and joy to those who read it. Maybe the one piece is the story that's been prophesized long ago, etched in stone in probably THE poneglyph. Which is why we see the roger pirates laughing and LAUGHTALE. This new information explains so much, why luffy was able to recover his lost teeth with milk alongside brook. Also why he's so durable and recovers so fucking quick. A MYTHICAL ZOAN fruit.
“Was it worth it to lose one of our best CP0?” 5 Elder Stars asked Luffy awakening… “No! He awakened regardless!! And it just got worse!!” 5 Elder Stars screamed.
i can’t seem to answer the question of why they didn’t take him out earlier? obviously he evaded multiple times, did they just learn this knowledge recently? and are just hoping kaido kills him?
I love Luffy's new form and the fact that he's basically a Rubberhose cartoon now. Which is excellent because it explains why Luffy could have the properties of rubber even though the fruit is a Zoan. It's a play on the name of the style of cartoon Luffy's Gear 5 is designed after. I think that Gear 5 is Luffy's full Zoan form while Gear 2-4 could qualify as the Hybrid form but I don't think Luffy has that being that he's a human that ate a Human-Human fruit. LIke Sengoku didn't show a hybrid form at Marineford, just the full Budda form. I don't think you get a hybrid form of the fruit if you are the same species as the base fruit.
The paramecia is additional properties of every Mythical Zoans. Like Marco, he has the natural properties of Flame and Yamato she has natural properties of Ice and Kaido natural properties of Clouds, then Luffy natural properties of Rubber.
@@adelcorona7393 the permanent part of Mythical Zoans vary. Sengoku gained increased intelligence, Luffy gained a rubber body, Kaido gained increased durability, and Marco gained healing fire. We don't know about what Yamato gained as a permanent boon but it's enough to say that it's not straightforward.
So... I'm just gonna put this question out here: Knowing what we know now (That Luffy is a Mythical Zoan and it's the Hito-Hito No Mi Model: Nika), What happens if Luffy eats one of Chopper's Rumble Balls? I mean... They're both Zoans. Specifically the "Human-Human" kind. (Even though Luffy's is a mythical) Could chopper have given Luffy more forms and we never knew this whole time?? I have too many questions...
So my guess is, it may not quite work out too well. Rumble ball is design specifically to Chopper. So it may not work the same for other user. And may cause major issue. Given time, I am sure Chopper could perfect a rumble ball recipe for Luffy. As for the effect it would have. My guess is. What Luffy already does. Maybe enchance his stretchy-ness a bit more. But as the ability pretty much is “does what ever the heck you can imagine” there really isn’t too much a scale down version the rumble ball can provide. That said, maybe it could give Luffy a way to easily access his awakening. But knowing how the series is. I doubt that is the path it would go down. Since Luffy has always been more “I will train and earn my power ups”
@@mingchen7704 I was thinking it would be like Chopper's "points". If you think about it, Luffy's "gear 4" transformations can be seen as the main 3 forms zoans have. (Bound-Man, Tank-Man, Snake-Man). So I was thinking maybe the Rumble Ball would give more Gear 4th forms? Not sure exactly but it's a cool concept!
I watch your reviews because I love how you explain things. That being said, I haven’t followed One Piece consistently since Chopper joined the crew because I didn’t know he was canon, so I didn’t understand a single word of the intro. Bless this man.
I love how every time the fan base comes up with like a dozen theories Oda says "nope you're all wrong it's this" But this time Oda was like "Hey yep all of you are right. It is all of those things"
Luffy's fruit makes so much more sense as well. Shadow Luffy? He imagined her could do it so he could. Red Hawk? Time to make a homage for Ace even if it's underwater cause he can. Bounce fire back off of rubber? Can't stop Luffy.
When i read "supposedly only limited by imagination" i got a little worried that this was going to be overpowered. Like this can already explain how red hawk is possible, and if he can do fire than what else and how well. This being said i had a lot of fun with this chapter, i was laughing my head off at 2am when i read it.

In a weird roundabout way, Kaido tried to become Joyboy using the "Smiles" to spread "Joy". It awesome how everything is coming together nicely. Props to Oda since this whole thing had to be set up years prior
I still hate Franky's post-timeskip appearance. As for Luffy's appearance (in ANY of his forms, but especially the new Gear Fifth), I actually like the design of all of Luffy's forms. Also, I think the cartoonish nature of Luffy's awakening is very appropriate for both the character AND the series in general. Just my opinion.
Same here. I can see why Oda changed Franky's look, but I prefer his appearance before the time-skip personally. As for Luffy, I think that this is part of how his character works. His powers are comical to the point that people question their effectiveness, but on a practical level they work very well. Besides, they fit his character and prove that appearances can be deceiving.
Now the secret meeting between Shanks and the five elders makes more sense. He possibly informed them that Luffy posesses the fruit they wanted most. But the reason though still remains a mystery. Shanks is the person that Luffy got his devil fruit from. At some point of time, Shanks maybe learned the truth about Laugh Tale, Void Century and also the true nature of gomu gomu no mi, which was protecting until Luffy accidentally ate it. Maybe this devil fruit was hidden in Laugh Tale the whole time (the reason why the WG couldn't find it), Roger gathered it and ended up in the hands of Shanks. Maybe the fruit's one and only next user after "Joy Boy" 800 years ago, is Luffy.
Yeah I don’t think roger had it or that the fruit was on laugh tale but other than that I really like the idea that Shanks meeting with the elders was bc of the fruit

Blackbeard does have that one technique which means "Black Water". Might be a hint.

@@sharifnasser7635 Doffy's reaction to gear 4 comes to mind

Got the below from a Reddit comment, which blew my mind:
"This explains the SMILEs. Kaido wanted to be joyboy and probably realized it had something to do with zoan devil fruits, hence specializing on creating them. Also probably why SMILEs make their users laugh uncontrollably despite being upset. They're enslaved to the aesthetics of joy while the nika fruit is the real deal and Luffy is actually having fun"
"So far the only objects imbedded with devil fruits were zoans.
Maybe he was able to replicate the fruits abilities, but could not inherit the will of the original into the copy."
Moreover, this synergizes with the fact that SMILEs were failed zoans that led to people having an obsessive fake-laughing trait.
Also that luffy awakened it after "dying" might explain why he always tries to kill himself. If thats the case Oda is literally a god
@@kkdssodjwjdjd5248 Oh yeah, because he doesn't just want to die, he wants to die after being defeated in a battle where he goes all out, which, now hat I think about it, is exactly the situation Luffy was in when he awakened the fruit!

Ah, a fellow Ohara viewer.
Reason why I feel it doesn't take from luffys greatness
@@DavimonVtube it really doesn't. Without that sheer willpower this fruit is essentially a dud. I'm going to re-read the entire series from tomorrow and see what I find! Oda has made me revisit the whole story many times but this is different. Oda really has nailed it

The mental gymnastics lmao
I did like the explanation of the devil fruit.
Luffys power only limited by his imagination. Until now he believed that he has a paramecia fruit, so he never imagined, that he can have a Zoan transformation.
That...actually makes sense, huh. Though I feel like Oda is not going to give him actual Zoan transforms after all this time, hopefully we'll get more of an explanation later
he still doesn’t know what his fruit really is
That checks out
@@Deadlightz444 luffy said something along the lines of “ it all makes sense now” in the recent chapter after awakening his df, so I’m assuming he understands the nature of his df now
@@Koushakur think its more fair to say that the transformation he litterely already has are zoan transformations
And the form we saw in Marineford is his awakening, which greatly enhances that ability.
what about onimaru?
@@miyamotomusashi692 Onimaru isn't a human, so it works more like a normal Zoan fruit.
@@Zeckenschwarm tf are you talking he have same df like luffy and sengoku ...
Luffy and Sengoku have diety fruits, Onimaru doesn’t.
I really feel like Luffy’s fruit basically makes him the Mask. Jim Carrey was a normal dude in that movie that got an object that gave him god like cartoon powers. Luffy and the mask even do that eye popping surprise before they turn the tables and attack.

yup agree

Great point - I also thought it was weird until I thought about Sengoku
this was my exact thought process on it
Yeah, after thinking about it and discussing with my friends, this is the same conclusion we came to.

100%
plus I think someone once asked ODA about Chopper's fruit, if a human ate it what would happen to them and he said something like the user is already a human so they can't really transform into human since they already are human, the answer was close to this so maybe Luffy's fruit doesn't have other forms or maybe his original form is human since it's a human fruit and his hybrid form is being rubber and his final form is becoming Nika. Chopper has three original transformations, walk, brain and full, so maybe not every fruit has to follow the same rule just like Blackbeard's fruit.
Way I thought of it was that it's permanently hybrid, since he always has the rubber effects. If it was a true zoan, he'd have to transform to do that
Luffy, as well as Chopper is in his hybrid form all the time.
It explains sanjis fire and eyebrows too
I assumed that his fist catching on fire when he punches is like sanji where he moves so fast that it catches on fire due to friction.

Now I want to know why Nika was a rubber person in the first place
But kaido wasn't taken back his transformation. He was just happy that he could've continued fighting

This opens up so many possibilities
Maybe Uranus is actually the Jacket Jacket fruit.
I'd add Chopper's fruit too, considering he doesn't look at all human and more like Big Foot some of the time and a tanuki the other. We've seen other Zoans have perfect transformations while Chopper seems to only transform into Hybrids (with the exception of his original Reindeer form).
@@DiceFTW273 So it's actually possible Chopper indeed has some kind of Mythical Yeti/Druid/Nature based fruit instead of just Human

Meanwhile Marco's pheonix or even Devon's nine tailed fox are mostly known for their intangible or variable form.
isn't Robin's fruit a paramecia though?
yeah i thought robin's fruit was a paramecia. guessing this might be head cannon. as for my thought's on luffy's fruit being a zoan i just went on the thought of how oda explained what would happen if a human at chopper's fruit a little. since luffy is already a human then that pretty much hides the human part till he awakens it. also this thought process has made me think of how does sengoku's devil fruit works. maybe these mythical human human fruit's true forms are an effect of their awakening? but this is just a theory that came up.

to be fair, zoan fruits having their own will has been somewhat confirmed since the alabasta days? because they can give intelligence and awareness and a will to objects. that dog gun was moving with the mind of a dog, not a gun. same for the elephant sword and the tanuki teapot. like I just kind of always assumed this so it's not blowing my mind lol

And the argument about how zoan fruits can somehow avoid people or group that they don't like also explain why the basic hito hito got to Chopper, an animal

Damn this seriously feels like a huge turning point in the series and i cant wait to see where it goes from here!
I still think they are ancient bioweapons meant to make super soldiers through "Liniage factor" manipulation
Its why VegaPunk could make Momo's fruit aside from him being pink(Vegapunk might be OCD and it being pink="failure") and even a hack like Cesar can sort of get Zoanish abilities .00001% of 10,000 tries

I've seen a lot of people get caught up in the whole "how does Luffy having a Sun God fruit have anything to do with him having a rubber body" and I think those guys miss the point a bit:
Nika is the embodyment of freedom and so the basic form of the fruit is freedom over one's body - it just seems like a rubber body to people that see it.
Not agreeing or disagreeing, but Luffy does have a rubber body! It was stated by the Gorosei in this chapter and it was shown in the fight against Enel.
@@xxluffyzoroxx I came here to reply this exact thing, it most certainly is rubber or else he couldn’t defeat eneru

Same here. I can see why Oda changed Franky's look, but I prefer his appearance before the time-skip personally. As for Luffy, I think that this is part of how his character works. His powers are comical to the point that people question their effectiveness, but on a practical level they work very well. Maybe this devil fruit was hidden in Laugh Tale the whole time (the reason why the WG couldn't find it), Roger gathered it and ended up in the hands of Shanks. Maybe the fruit's one and only next user after "Joy Boy" 800 years ago, is Luffy.
It was with Whos who a couple years ago until it was stolen
Yeah I don’t think roger had it or that the fruit was on laugh tale but other than that I really like the idea that Shanks meeting with the elders was bc of the fruit
