  • Ever wonder what it's like to drive a high performance EV on track? Now you can find out from an owner's perspective. One take-home I can't emphasize enough is that the Taycan 4S has more than enough power as a street car/daily driver, and pundits who obsess about 1/4 mile times are missing almost everything that this car has to offer.
    The Taycan is a big, luxury sports sedan, with everyday practicality. It's probably one of the best driving cars out there to boot. You will never miss your old gas engine once you've experienced the exhilaration of effortless and seamless power. :)
    Thanks to the great staff at Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit, who also provided the still pictures I used at the end of the video!

    Did you know they have open lapping days you can sign up for? No membership needed, in fact, there is no membership to the track anymore.
    Thanks also to the Victoria Motor Sports Club for organizing this day, and to the participants!

    This was just fascinating to watch. No crazy graphics and unnecessary dialogue. Just great video and compelling feedback. I just picked up my Taycan Turbo last month and absolutely love it. Super hot down here in Florida but hoping to get it on the track in Homestead this summer. Thanks for the inspiring video.

    Thanks for the details around at the limit driving dynamics of the Taycan. It was really useful watching you go around the track along various turns-watching your brake points, turn-ins, and corner exit acceleration. Good reminder on the tires, as well. This video is definitely the most coherent description on YT about the Taycan's driving dyamics. Thank you! 🙏

    It's like jet power craft vs prop planes, it's no match.

    great video! One quick question, did the Taycan have any cooling issues where it would hold back power so that the motors/battery wouldn't overheat or is it able to consistently give you full power throughout the track session?

      Based on my lap times there was no change.

      I've driven my Taycan Turbo S a number of times on the track at Goodwood, UK. It's a very fast circuit and I found unless the batteries we very cool before the session they would overheat and it cut the power on about lap four. I think this is more because of the continual high speeds of the circuit, but prior to it overheating the car is very capable on the track and I wish there was an upgrade/mod to the battery cooling system.

    Wow! Underway to my first trackday in my Taycan as we speak! What tyre pressure did you run? I’m on Michelin PS4 20"

    • @WestCoastSupercarsandClassics
      @WestCoastSupercarsandClassics  3 роки тому +1

      Awesome! My regular pressures are 2.9/3.0 bar fr/r or somewhere around 40psi rear. I've been taking 6psi off every tire so when they're hot they're no higher than regular pressure. Haven't tried anything lower than that.
      Give yourself a couple of laps to bring temps up before pushing hard, and if you overdo it let them cool down again. If you have some video I'd love to see/hear it too.
      Have fun!

      @@WestCoastSupercarsandClassics wow! Just finished first stint in the Taycan 4S+, no RAS or PDCC but still by far the easiest car I’ve driven on track. Thanks for the tips. Started with 2,4 all around, and ende up at 2,7 on all corners when not pushing more than 75%.
      Got to see the track premiere of 992GT3 here In Norway. How cool to have that on Arctic Circle Raceway where we can drive 24/7 in sunlight if weather permits. Yesterday was downpour. Today overcast and dry 14 degrees Celsius. Sun is about to break cover! God I love this life! Fuck coronavirus😆

    Did you ever try to turn of traction control on the track? If so, what was your experience? (I have tried it on ice/snow, and it’s pretty insane)

      I didn't, just a little extra safety margin when driving near the limit.

      @@WestCoastSupercarsandClassics I considered taking it off for a track day this weekend but decided against. The Taycan is extremely impressive on the track I went to (Motorcenter Norway in Sokndal). (CT4S with all the chassis and wheel extras). I am considering whether to get non-OEM rims and slicks for track days. Have you heard of anyone having tried that on a Taycan?

      @@Sketchy_Andy I haven't.. I'm using Goodyear Eagle F1s for summer and track.
      At the time I looked there weren't a lot of choices but probably there are more now.
      Check with your dealer for specifics though

    So, just how much electric power did you consume playing around on the track? An overnight charge for your Porsche consumes the electrical equivalent of eight to nine average homes for 24 Hrs worth.

    • @WestCoastSupercarsandClassics
      @WestCoastSupercarsandClassics  3 роки тому +7

      I consumed about 65kWh on track plus returning home, which cost about $9 ($.14kWh). The overall equivalent of energy consumption for the day (100km return trip, about 60km on track) was about 70kWh. I got an equivalent of 113MPGe on the way there and back, and probably about 30MPGe on the track, so the total energy was a fraction of what a gasoline engine would have used. For comparison I used to go through at least a tank of fuel not including the return trip, which also cost over $100.
      The average US home consumes about 28kWh of electricity per day (not including gasoline for the cars, which adds to carbon emissions), and my daily use is normally around 10kWh for commuting, so I'm adding 30% or 40%. Mind you if your house is heated by electricity alone, your consumption would be higher.
      The most important metric is hourly energy consumption - our Level II charger uses about 7kWh, so that's roughly equivalent to heating 1500sq ft by baseboard heat in winter.
      Energy is energy, whether it's from fossil fuels or from a hydro dam.
