I am a giant SEGA Saturn fan despite never having one. I wanted one. I was at the brink. I almost got one but Keio wasn't available. So, I caved and got a PS1. But, I've played some of the system's catalogue via emulation. I am really happy to hear you cover Astal and Keio and others. That Enemy Zero game looks interesting. It sounds familiar, but I'm not familiar with it but seeing it in action is a treat. There are some other great games here, too.
I really enjoy your videos. I don't *need* the thirst trap thumbnails to watch them but they do always catch my eye. I guess I'm saying that they aren't necessary but I do appreciate them.
When I got a Saturn I got Sega Rally and Darius Gaiden with it. Was the first console I imported for. Saturn got Parodius in Europe too if you like shooters. Baku Baku is a great Sega puzzle game that deserves to be played by more people - it got worldwide release too.

Enemy zero done by kenji eno was the inspiration for him to build games for the blind. I mean the enemy is invisible so you rely on sound. But thats amazing making games accessible to the blind.
I actually owned some of these games as a young dumb kid who didn't know what he had. Scud the Disposable Assassin and Mr. Bones were, by far, my favorite games on the Saturn. After seeing you say Scud, I had my fingers crossed you'd say Mr. Bones Fun Fact: Put Scud the Disposable Assassin in a CD player to hear hidden skits from the Vestebules. "Boulbous Bouffant" and... I dunno what the other ones called. Incandescent Reading Lamps, maybe? Mr Bones all rockin out on a guitar as a giant. You get to kinda make your own music to keep the skeleton army happy... or maybe you fight em off? It was so awesome! My favorite line from Mr. Bones, that I still repeat to this day in a squeaky voice, "They're taking me away!" I also owned Dark Savior, but I don't remember it being called that here in the US. I don't remember much except the bird. I didn't play that one long cause the controls were weird. I remember seeing 3 Dirty Dwarves. It had the wrecking ball on it. I think it was on the back of the case, but I never got that one. I didn't think it looked good as a kid, but it looks pretty amazing to me now. I also owned Legend of Oasis because I loved Beyond Oasis as a kid. I was still a kid at that point, when it came out... Those games were amazing. There really wasn't anything else like em at the time, that I knew of. I really can't think of anything to compare em to now... Thanks for the memories... Also, do the Scud CD player trick, haha
I love how Dark Saviour almost looks like it's got cleverly programmed super scalar hardware at the heart of its isometric 3d, with a touch of neo Geo in the combat system
I went down to Virginia to visit a friend around the same time the Saturn was first released. We were able to rent the entire system from the video store and got a few good gaming sessions in before I went back home. I never did play the Saturn again but I always think about that fun trip whenever the Saturn is mentioned. I never saw that friend again either.
A lot of these games were pretty mainstream bangers. Love a lot of these- only one I’m reaaaaallly vying for is Keio Flying Squadron 2. I have the first one, but didn’t know there was a second one until recently funny enough! Good video. Have you seen Sega Lord X’s recent video on some of the best of the best Sega Saturn games? He covers a few of these as well, funny enough!
Three Dirty Dwarves looks absolutely stunning! I have never heard of this and I consider myself a Saturnophile. The gameplay/graphics are blowing my mind. Sort of like Heavy Metal movie... Great pick. I have indeed never played this game. Was it released in the US??
Oh wow, Scorcher. I thought that was just a bad fever dream of my youth because I could never find it. Trying to describe it "glowing green hamster balls like out of that show Gladiators and you go through tunnels and streets" wasn't too helpful.
The only issue I had with dark savior and all games that used it is that isometric perspective. It just makes it unnecessarily difficult to judge distances, jumps, and hitting enemies. Other than that it was one of my favorites but man that perspective was the source of a lot of frustration for me.
I didn't get this generation of Sega console but I've watched Sega fans such as Sega Lord X talk about how good the Saturn was and why he loves the system. Having watched this I feel maybe I missed out
The amount of awesome Japan exclusives alone make the Saturn worthwhile. It's highly recommended to install a MODE with your console however unless you want to go flat broke collecting the discs. The price for games is beyond absurd.
I had several of these games back when I was in the Army (US), stationed in Germany. Like, a surprising number of them. Scud and Mr. Bones have a special place in my heart, though. Scud was an okay game. It wasn't great, but it looked cool, and using two light guns was hilarious fun (it was literally called "John Woo Mode" in the game, which... lol). The reason I love it, though, was it lead me to the Scud comics. I eventually collected all of them, and I adore the series, despite its downer ending (which wasn't really a surprise, honestly... there was pretty much no other way for it to end.) If you haven't read them, try to hunt them down. I promise, they're hilarious, deeply weird, and there's nothing else like them. Mr. Bones, on the other hand, is a real hidden gem. The controls are wonky, the visuals are muddy and odd... and I don't care. It's a unique game with great music (Mr. Bones himself is the reanimated skeleton of a blues musician). The different types of game modes kept each level interesting, and the "health bar" being your slowly knocked-apart body is unlike anything else pretty much anywhere. The soundtrack along is enough to make it worth hunting down. Sure, it's weird and a little hard to get into, but it is a true cult classic in my book.

I still miss my Sega Saturn, had to sell it because of financial reasons. I basically got it brand new in the box from this pawn shop in Virginia in 2007. It was just hard to find games for it at a decent price. I was able to get unboxed versions of Virtua Fighter 2 and Nights, and a few old demo discs, but that's about it.
Love enemy zero, it was really hard to play back in the day as there was no player guided to help you. Love the video sequences just blowex me away back in the day.
I love Sega. They have the most unique soundtracks. Nights into Dreams and Sonic adventure are one of my favorite soundtracks that sound better than anything sony had at the time. Saturn honestly had good sound.

Wow! I had an N64 in the 90’s and missed out on the PS1 & Saturn games. I mostly got caught up on what PS1 games I missed w/ my PS2 but didn’t get a Saturn until 2012! But I got one, modded it, and fell in love with the JRPG’s on the system. I thought I knew most of the games on the system but I hadn’t heard of “Keio 2” or “Dark Legend”, going to give both a try! And I can’t recommend “Dragon Force 1&2” and “Panzer Dragoon Saga” enough for the system!

A really overlooked Saturn game for me is NEXT KING which is a fun 4 player party game, rpg, dating sim mix. The only downside I would say is that its in japanese but still not overly hard to figure most of the stuff out.

Darius Gaiden, Sky Targets, Tempest 2000, Galactic Attack, didn't played those, but it's mostly because i'm not into Shoot-'em-Up... Three Dirty Dwarves, also didn't played... he is in my to do list, but i don't think it will beat Guardian hereos in my fav list. Astal, also on my to do list. I prefered to play ... ...Keio Flying Squadron 2 first, i really like this one, even though i didnt pass the boss on the dohyō (sumo). Enemy Zero and D, not even in my to do list, i really don't like horror game. Power Slave / Exhumed, sorry but no, I only play FPS with mouse/keyboard. Noon (New Type Action Game Noon), a 4 player action puzzle with one of the best music on the platform. Blast Chamber, also 4 player action puzzle, might be a little less good than Moon since is game mechanic that can be a little strange at first, still a must be tested game. Gals Panic SS, a sexy variant of the classic puzzle game Qix, that can be played at 2. Monster Slider, a puzzle game with really interesting mechanic, cute graphic and a fun story (saddly japanese only). Bulk Slash, an Action - Shooter good enough to have fan make a translation patch ;) Linkle Liver Story, an ARpg who also got an english patch. Dragon Master Silk (Dungeon crawler RPG), the game for which i want the most an translation patch... Please comunity, hear me for that one :(. ---- Yoh, who don't need to speak about marvellous game such as Burning Rangers and Dragon Force, right ?
I bought Mr. Bones years ago and I never got pass the intro chase stage. Lol I'll have to revisit it one of these days. I'm quite familiar with Astal, Enemy Zero, Scud, and The Legend of Oasis as well. I gotta agree as much I played Sonic R, it is a trash ass game. It's funny how the Gloria Estefan sounding soundtrack tho, became more memorable than Sonic R itself. 😆 I always felt like Sonic R would've been better off, with gameplay more like the PS1 import game Running High.
Sega real problem the great majority of they're better games never got a western release most of what we got here in the US on the Saturn was blah blah blah.

Super scaler - not scalar. Super Scalar means more than 1 instruction per clock.

Astal is like the dark crystal it's one of the best looking platform games ever. It's not as variety filled as Rayman though

I got my Saturn mainly for the Capcom 2D fighting games that came out for it. They were the best on that system.

Powerslave Exhumed has been remade for modern systems and is a great play
Mr Bones is great but also borderline impossible and costs about £3000 to buy today.

It's funny how the Gloria Estefan sounding soundtrack tho, became more memorable than Sonic R itself. 😆 I always felt like Sonic R would've been better off, with gameplay more like the PS1 import game Running High.
