Love the Camo, it is definitely cool. Luke you should never have to apologize or explain what you do here on this channel. If anyone has issues with your gear choices, they obviously don’t know you, your family and what you stand for. S&H
I love that you keep reviewing bivy sacks. I think they're great for the solo hiker or someone just looking to lighten their load. I picked up an Outdoor Research Wall Creeper bivy/shelter/poncho and have been putting it through its paces. So far, I kind of really like it. It's a versatile but strange design. Take a look at the GI issue Wall Creeper or civilian version, the Wilderness Cover. I think you'll get a kick out of the design.
Nowt wrong with testing equipment from anywhere. If you stopped testing equipment from countries who invade somewhere else, you’d not be able to review any 🇺🇸 or 🇬🇧 stuff neither! Another good review 👌🏼
I'm so glad you had that message before the actual video to explain your timing. I was almost ready to skip this one just because I didn't want to see all the crazy comments. Thanks all for being decent folks!♥️
I love the Russian como colours and Nordic countries. We're all human at the end of the day and mostly pawns in someone eles game. I've got an older Geertop bivvy similar to that and condensation is terrible. Please do carry on with the Russian gear :)
I’ve collected a lot of the rarer pattern surplus over the years. Some of the stuff absolutely sucks to use but it’s collectible. Russian gear is usually great to use. I’ve had luck with all of it.

I was interested months ago when you spoke about testing several russian pieces of kit and I continue to be interested to see your reviews ... but no more to buy now. Thx for these and for the future ones too :)
Military gear, no matter where it comes from, tends to be heavy and not exactly what I need when going on an adventure. Car camping it works fine. And I started out using Military Surplus gear. Of course anyone looking for gear proven to be tough and able to handle anything you can through at it this is the best bet.
Hell, I know you're solid enough to trust you with anything gear from Russia. We loyal viewers know you, and we trust you! Thanks for another great episode Luke :)
As a russian I highly respect your honest and mature position no matter if I agree or not with each of your points. And as an owner of a piece of equipement bought concidering your recomendation (Fjallraven Keb 52 backpack) I can say - your review was honest and precise in each detail. Great job, keep going!
That looks very promising so far. I've been wanting to get an extra bivy, so I can have one ready amongst bugout gear as well as the one in my regular pack. People are really going mental about all of this when, or if, their first inclination is to assume that you support that. There's absolutely no room for anything less than hating Russia in this climate. I'll continue buying cool surplus from across the globe regardless of whatever's going on.
I have this bivy and love it. Along with the ratnik shelter, ratnik pack, ratnik patrol pack, special purpose pack, and special forces hammock tent. If you watch The Endurance Roon's channel he uses lots of russian military gear. He's my influence. I'm very happy with all the gear I've acquired.
I love me a military hooped bivvy. I looked at the snugpak but settled with the TAS hooped bivvy. Very similar to this one. Build quality is amazing. This one looks like a good version.
Gear testing everyone can enjoy. War nobody enjoys. And even without the disclaimer ppl you'd think would have the smarts to know this is an apolitical review of different kinds of survival/camping gear to help ppl make smart informed decisions. That's my thoughts and later days and better lays brotherman
I personally love using Russian military gear for camping. Cant wait to see the test night of this! Thanks for what you do to help all of us make sound purchases!

I have used the Snugpak copy for several years and like any other piece of gear, there is a time to use it and a time not to. It's fairly light, best used in colder climates where condensation is not as big of a deal. I almost always use it with a tarp to keep rain off, but I have had no problems with leaking even in steady rain with just the bivvy.
Hooped Bivi bags have been around for decades. I wouldn’t be so quick to suggest Sungpak copied Russian Ratnik, more likely Russia copied western companies.
Great video on this bivy and thanks for separating it with what's currently happening elsewhere too. I borrowed one of these last year as a test of being able to cope with claustrophobic feeling. I loved it even though it was close to my face. It was light, great breathable material and I also really liked the camo pattern. I tried to buy one but costs to the UK were high. I bought a Dutch army hooped bivvy instead which is also very very good. Its very cool and my night out in it was great 👍
I think my main issue is where I'd leave things like my bag(s). I like having my stuff inside my tent with me. Also, I bet you can forget getting dressed in that thing...
In basic training, we were taught to use sticks. Lay the sticks in a pattern like a #. Use like a couple of layers like 3 sticks bottom, 3 middle layer and 3 sticks on top. Pack on top of that and put the raincover on the pack so your harness system isn't soaking in a muddy pool and you have some airflow under it. And you are not undressing to use a bivy and get in your pj's. Just fully clothed and we even kept our muddy boots on. Because you have to get out quickly in case of an alarm in 10 seconds.
We need nature even more in times like these. Beauty, exercise, adventure, all the things that are good for the soul can be found outside. War is a game where everybody loses. I hope the madness ends soon.
I just gave you thumbs up purely for your disclaimer statement at the start. Just because a certain leader and his country are behaving insane doesn’t mean that their equipment isn’t worth assessing/reviewing.
Very interesting. I have an American Special Forces Bivy/Sleeping bag combination which is great for any season *actually has two sleeping bags - summer light weight and winter inner for winter for temps of down to -35*C) the bivy is made of Gortex which works well enough and is waterproof but the down side is that the head section is not lifted off your face and becomes very claustrophobic. A very good product overall.
As someone who just watches your videos for fun (I don't camp) I appreciate your disclaimer. At first I was thinking poor timing, Luke, poor timing. Thanks for speaking up.
I actually bought a bunch of Ratnik gear right before the invasion too. I’ve heard similar things with foreign eBay sellers as well as US importers of Russian gear who have family ties to Russia as well.
For those who want a decent briefing on the present Ukraine conflict, view Oliver Stone's 2016 documentary, "Ukraine on Fire" while you still can. Luke, are you going to include any of the stories of the relatives of the thousands of Russians murdered by Ukraine in the Donbas region over the last eight years?
I definitely understand why you put the disclaimer in the beginning, however it is sad that we have to say stuff like that in the 1st place, mature adults understand. I also wanted to say I love these types of videos, I actually have an older 2004 marine corps bivy style tent that was mine while I served. (2004-2008) it's a pop up kind of tent that has a bathtub floor and mesh walls and ceiling, I'd love to see what ya think about it, I'll post the exact name of it in an edit, gotta get home to see what it's actually called. It folds down super small to a circle about 10 to 12 inches wide and maybe 1 and half inches thick. You have to use a tarp over it for rain or other weather but it's super light and takes literally 2 seconds to set up and break down. I plan on doing a review of it this weekend actually when my son and I go camping.
I doubt some even got issued bivys, especially the low equipped soldiers with mosin rifles and no MRE/food Hey good review was interesting to see how it is designed.
People want to complain about Russia invading Ukraine yet just how many time has the United States done exactly the same thing. Since WW2 we have attempted 72 regime changes in different countries. Also don't believe everything the media says, in fact question all out it. That being said, great video Luke.
