This is my first time ever coming across your channel. Randomly recommended this video. Everything you said was 👌 The perfect video to watch for me. I’m about to start djing a lot and do this foreal. but also I’m coming back from getting lost. Since I grounded myself, I’ve been so happy and grateful for everything and every moment ever. Every blessing in disguise. Like you said, there’s people you can talk to everywhere. When you regain the ability to truly connect, even for 5-10 minutes, Your life changes. It’s an odd, beautiful thing. I've learned (from the hard way) that we should be grateful for the things we have, and stop focusing too much on the things we don't. Gratitude isn't free, you need to train it by yourself, everyday. If you put your mind and your heart on the things you think u should be grateful of, the better you'll feel overall, and the world will have a even deeper meaning to you in no time. this is the same in any career. obviously on something like djing the ceiling is much higher than most "normal" careers though. As an example as a software developer there is a huge difference if you're working some web development gig for your local shop or are a principal engineer at netflix. Not just the money you make, but also your social status and opportunities and such. In djing the difference between your local dj and someone like David Guetta is like 10000x that difference between the low and top tier software developers. This is why some careers have a crazy fluctuations and djing is one of them. I like to compare this with investments. Low risk investments, have low fluctuations but they also have low upside opportunities (software development), whereas High risk investments, have crazy fluctuations, but you also have insane opportunities and a high potential upside (djing) People need to be aware of this, as awareness is the best prevention. Having the right expectations is critical in any career. Setting them too low, will hinder your potential, setting them too high, will make you adjust incorrectly to what may be just regular, expected fluctuations.
Right now I am in the stage of producing a lot, along side with hoping finishing my uni. it stresses me a lot , but I manage to balance myself into families, making music, socialing, and comparing with just producing, it made me more secure, it made me explore myself more. And that's what's in my heart lately. Also, thanks for Tim for the one vs. one session!:)

Hey brother. As a producer who feels like they post to a void, the most important thing I learned is to be happy with my own music, and to surround myself with good people. I would absolutely love to produce professionally and share my music with a lot of people, but I am also happy and content creating tracks that I enjoy and perhaps some friends would enjoy as well. Great that you are speaking up about this. I feel like it can be super hard nowadays with most labels and festivals looking only at established artists. At the same time a lot of music stats are being botted and it's hard to even tell whether a track is going well or the labels have a bot network
very true, I feel especially in the music industry you can have insane ups but also drastic downs and sometimes not that far apart too. Being a musician is definitely an insane rollercoaster of emotions. Social media is definitely one of those things that portais things differently than what they mostly are and we mostly define one's social media presence with how successful they are within the music industry. Yet noone shares the bad things, people only share the good things so it's a massively skewed reality in a lot of cases. Social media is absolute garbage tbh but unfortunately there's no going around it if you want to be a succesful artist nowadays. I appreciate the honesty, keep grinding and stay real above all!
I've been DJing six days a week for years, brother! But in the Netherlands, it's tough-everyone knows each other, and it gets so boring. Honestly, I could DJ 24/7 without any complaints. Don’t blame yourself; unfortunately, that’s just the world we live in. I know I’ll make it one day! The key is to never give up. When I was feeling down, my love was there to lift me up. It’s crucial to have great people around you for support. That day will come, man! Keep your head down, stay humble, and keep grinding. Focus on opportunities outside the Netherlands-the biggest artists aren’t even famous in their own countries. Look at Benny Benassi; he has a residency in America, just like Tiësto! Honestly, I’m in the wrong country for this business, without a doubt! It’s the worst place I’ve ever been for this industry, even though I thought it was the best move for me. But it actually set me back.

Same situation with my photography career right now. I was hopping from one big event to another while studying. I reached to shows I was never thought about and after the last huge milestone and finishing my semester, it all stopped. Now, I feel like I am standing still. Everything is fine in my life; I have no problems and I have future bookings, but it feels kind of weird.
As far my story goes .. i really want to be producer and dj , but I'm facing lots of obstacles .. i don't have money to build the studio or have a nice room for such things.. no money for Speakers . After I'm diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder , he doctor told me to use no longer Headphone .. it was heart breaking moment for me . The only thing that i used to heal my depression and stay high was my headphone .. it gave me the euphoria i needed . Now , all I'm doing is keep patience .. and wait for the right time .. hoping one day I'll get the support from me parents even tho there's no sign .. i hope things will get better ! I look forward to you Hox!
Buddy, you can still make music , you'll just need to get someone else to do the boring bit (mixing) for you. There are beginners out there who will mix your music for free in exchange for good reviews.
1 minute in and wow i’m so happy you mentioned the mental health problem. i finally started doing my tour in june and even dreaming about this for a long time, i didn’t realize the mental toll it will have on me touring. but regardless i have to keep going because i have people that believe in me and i refuse to let them down. i have to find new ways to keep motivating my self
I can really relate to the fact that seeing your stats go lower is very depressing. I have run several instagram pages, one of which was getting up to 8000 followers a day at some point. When that suddenly stopped, it really felt shitty. Those dopamine rushes you get from refreshing your feed over and over to see how many new likes followers, and in your case, streams you got, its dangerous.
Yes it’s been a tough road for me , ups and downs especially with live streaming however it’s main stream , thanks for sharing, but I’m not frightened to share it on social media, people might moan but it’s does help , by sharing, social media is about communication & connecting, people relate to your content

But I think you have to have the drive and bizarre motivation to succeed to get to a point where you have a big following and many ‘numbers’ Those also pay the bills Only then you can start focusing on ‘just doing the things I want’ I don’t think I’m gonna make it if I don’t focus on the numbers 😅 Would love to hear your take on that
you can plan and work all you want, but ive encountered mental health problems, and years having a wrong diagnosis. The music industry nowadays is a hard business, and you need to keep up with all your socials and stuff. I really do not like the internet now as it is. Im only on fb but do not come there often. The internet is off on my phone. I do sets with 90s/00s golden era techno and new tracks from the underground that fit in. This is something that will not make me popular, but its a concept i can stand behind. Same goes for production, i really dislike the hard mastering, im aiming productionwise at the 90s/00s style mastering. Less hard, more dynamics, more organic. Also, overprocessing is sometimes taking the soul out of the track. I work hybrid, make everything on external machines, and record via an analog mackie mixer into ableton. I do only some bus/mixbus processing and mastering myself, but i let the mastering sometimes do by a guy which has some more tricks up his sleeve. I know i wont also not get popular by doing it this way, but i dont want to be a slave of the moment. If I could hardware-wise, i would keep the whole production out of the computer. Maybe only at the end of the chain digitalize again for distribution purposes.

What no one tells you is that the music industry is dishonest and gatekept by elites. If you don’t have friends in the industry you can do drugs with, family in the music industry, wealth, or beauty, you won’t make it. There is no such thing as reaching out to artists for support. They won’t support you. Submitting a demo is pointless since it will never be listened to, no matter how good it is. People rarely give you constructive feedback to build and improve off of. Success in the music industry isn’t determined by skill or merit, it’s determined by economic and social status. That’s something no one will tell you.
