      Love the detail you have and continue to produce Ryan...quick question about Tenacity - pre /post emergent? Because of timing, I didn't have time to apply before seed went down. Can I still use now or should I wait for seeds to germinate? thanks

    Nice job Ryan! This is going to look gorgeous. When I put down my peat, I put in a 5 gallon bucket so I can hold the bucket in one hand and throw it down with the other. Then back to wheelbarrow once 5 gallon bucket is empty. And instead of peat, I've also used GreenView with success, which is a seed mulch and start fertilizer combo (1-3-1)

    Great job bud. I'm going to be emulating you in this video doing mine next weekend. Unfortunately as I mentioned previously, I had to wait to have a tree removed, and now I'm waiting for the stump grinding guy to come next Wednesday. So I'm about 3 or 4 weeks behind schedule for doing this in cold Minnesota. Hoping to succeed and not freezing prior to November. Minnesota weather is crazy. Could have snow and lakes iced over in early October, or could hopefully have a warm fall. Fingers crossed. Great job. I'll be watching this video over again several times as I complete each step. The area I'm renovating this year looks exactly like yours. Hope it comes out nice for both of us.

    I like a drop spreader for new grass seed. I feel like it’s easier to get an even spread than the broadcast spreader.

  • @Methodical2
    @Methodical2 6 років тому

    Looking good. Very Methodical.
    I remember those days spreading peatmoss like that and using rakes and shovels to spread (getting dirty and arm cramps) and then I found the Peatmoss spreader and now use it to topdress the lawn with compost. What a game changer that was for me. I'd recommend that to anyone who top dresses their lawn annually. A big time saver.
    Your going to love the KBG for it's look, spreading/repairing capabilities and density, especially if you can keep it happy in the summer months. You have full sun, which it loves.

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  6 років тому

      I want to get one of those spreaders for sure. The price seems a bit steep though from what I've found.
      I have had bluegrass for a while now and I have a love/hate relationship with it but overall it will fit my needs in the end. I'm excited to see what happens!

    • @Methodical2
      @Methodical2 6 років тому

      The price of that spreader has jumped for sure. I got mine for about 1/2 the price they want now (around $115). Keep looking at Amazon because they drop the price every now and then. They dropped it about a month ago significantly.
      I know it will turn out right because of the prep work, which is 90% in my opinion. I did not know you had KBG. I thought it was 100% rye.

    This is a very thorough video. Thanks. I just seeded a large area of the lawn after having a tree cut and stump removal. This video was my guide. One thing I did different was the application
    of the peat moss. I emptied the bag into the wheel barrow and used a shovel to apply the
    peat moss. Rocking the shovel in a left to right oscillating fashion applied it in an even fashion. I stayed
    clean also.

  • @700lbGorilla

    I did the whole process and was pleased with how it looked. Not 36 hours later an intense storm came through and washed it all away. Maybe peat moss was a bad idea on soil with out much dead grass to hold it in. I'm going to try again, but thinking of using EZ-straw with the tack in it.

    Very well done and easy for a newbie to understand and follow. I wish I had seen YOUR videos before my lawn reseeding job. You posted this video the same day I seeded my lawn! Drat!!!
    After watering the seeds came to the surface as the peat moss settled around it. Is that a problem? Birds don't come around, the wind doesn't blow the seeds away (trapped by wet peat moss) and they are constantly moist.

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  6 років тому +1

    Hi Ryan. Thanks for the video. I followed your advice and put a thin layer of Peat moss on my newly seeded soil. I find that it does hold the water well and keep the soil moist, but I do notice that when that Peat Moss is wet it kind of acts as a blanket or shell, and I just want to make sure that the grass will not have a problem pushing through that.

Followed directions to a “t”). Nimblewill is still present in spots so I will be applying a third spray here shortly. I plan on doing the long process of removing the dead grass/thatch with a dethatch rake in about a week from now. Question: I need to aerate/overseed my front and remaining backyard grass. Do I also aerate the dead area at the same time? Do I apply topsoil next AFTER aerating in the dead area or BEFORE? Or should I skip the dead area and just use the topsoil prior to seeding? Help!

    *Shouldn't you have 'head to head' sprinkler coverage? The hunter sprinkler system design PDF on one hand has the diagram which says each sprinkler head delivers an even distribution of 1 inch of water for its entire radius. However, that PDF also stresses the importance of having even head to head sprinkler coverage. I found that discrepancy pretty odd - and in practice, I found that one hunter sprinkler head still has a higher concentration of water delivered, closer to the sprinkler head.*

      Yeah from what I've been told they are supposed to be head to head.

    So I just had a French train put in around my house and my green lawn is now a bunch of topsoil. The guys that I hired to do the job did overseed and put down some hay but we got slammed with heavy rain the next night. I'm going to go with the same procedure you did in this video but I'm just curious how long did it take to become a full yard again? It's just starting to reach 70 here in New Jersey so ideally a few weeks back would have been perfect for better germination temperatures.

      How long depends on so many things...grass type, weather, etc - you will likely be looking at some work again in the fall but it should turn around fairly well with the fall season

    Hey Ryan,
    I hope you are doing well. I am following your steps on the lawn renovation. My question is, Its been two weeks since I spread the Tenacity. Do I need to lay down more Pre emergent / tenacity on week 4 or is this sufficient for the rest of the season.

      It took me 3 of the 2.2 cubic foot bags to cover my 1100 sq ft so maybe 12-13

    Hey, great video, very helpful! Question for you. What sprinkler body heads and nozzles are you using that shows at the end of this video. I just did a sprinkler system on my property before planting sead. But I have the rainbird 1800 with rain heads that spray like yours but I'm not getting as much water as yours are throwing. I have the proper volume and pressure, I just think I chose the wrong heads / nozzels

    I've done all your process and, it looks excellent! Thank you. However, after I watered I noticed some spots were the peat moss was very thin, so I can see the seeds. Can I add some more peat moss to these areas? And walking over the area it'll be ok, right? Another way to put the seed in touch with the topsoil w/o barrel or the Curby wrench? Gracias amigo!

    I’ve been watching your videos and loving the process.
    I’m in NC about 15 mins west of Charlotte. We just bought a house that had Bermuda when built and previous owners mixed it with tall fescue. I want to reseed the backyard but don’t know which grass to grow. Do you recommend growing the Bermuda or tall fescue?

      If you have Bermuda then I would keep it because fighting to get rid of it is not very easy

    Thanks for going through all this hard work for us! This is giving me the confidence to kill/level/seed my yard, maybe next season this time of the year if I do not see the results I am striving for after over-seeding. Two questions..
    1.) Did you back off on the amount of water you had in the roller on your last pass in this video? I noticed in your previous leveling video, it looked like it was filled to the top.
    2.) Does this make you want to kill the lawn on the opposite side of the driveway? Or, are you going to try and level that side with sand, and an organic?

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  6 років тому +1

      Glad to help and show you the process.
      Actually both times I used the roller it was about 3/4 full or so. Here when rolling in the seed it doesn't have to be super heavy but because I raked lightly again, I wanted to flatten things so it was fairly level.
      I am kind of unsure of what do with the other side but this is kind of showing me that I don't think it will probably ever get completely level enough without a full renovation (not to mention the various grass types mixed in over there which I don't like) - I am planning on overseeding it this fall yet and still don't know what I'm using to try to improve the level even 25%. It's bad right now.

    I want to seed a lawn in my new home but the yard is eroded in some places, the soil has some clay, it has small rocks in most places, and weeds all over. Should I start to prepare the soil now for fall seeding or just wait until Fall to do everything at once?

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  3 роки тому

      You probably don't want a mud mess all summer but you could go either way. Fall would definitely be ideal for a cool season lawn

    I seeded my lawn on the 1st of October (2 days ago), but was not able to spray my dirt lawn with Tenacity (didn't come in the mail in time). I think from this video or another one of your videos, you said something about maybe 2-3 weeks after seeding to spray the seedlings again with Tenacity? I'm just wondering when for me, can be the first time to spray Tenacity? I did put down Scott's Lawn Food w/ Weed Preventer, so at least something was put down. Nice videos btw.

      4 weeks from seeding or two mows, whichever is longer.

    I'm going to be reseeding about 16000sf in August. This is super helpful. I live at 6000 feet above sea level in Heber, Utah. Most people out here love pure bluegrass, but my experience is that it requires a lot of water. Do you have a recommendation for a seed mix? Its not a shady lawn, get lots of sun. I've looked at some of the seed on your site, but was curious what your thoughts are. I know you have friends out this way. Ben
