practice make everything, Jaco Pastorious used to say "if you practice the instrument harder you can cross walls" ..when you study and practice arpeggios , scales ,modes for hours 24/7 after months or years, the sound of the chords of any song will be printed in your mind..sometimes you dont need to remember what is the next chord ..is too fast to think about ..because the chords are playing in your mind and you need to have a good time "painting those beautiful lines".vibraphonist Gary Burton said that saxo player Stan Get used to play by ear..he sometimes did not have to see the chords of a song that they were practicing for a show..he just improvise over the song ..
It’s funny .. he’s so killing .. and he must know how killing he is but he has this thing going on like he doesn’t take himself so seriously .. he just sits and swings his ass off .. I freaking love anything this guy ever did ..
Holy cow, I'm ecstatic that YT finally recommended this video to me. This guy is astonishing. Best improv over giant steps I've ever heard on guitar. Thanks for posting this! My eyes aren't that good, can someone tell me what kind of guitar that is?
rillloudmother, let me hear some musical impro on GS from you at this tempo. At this more medium/fast tempo it is even harder to create some lines that are realy musical.
the first 7 bars of Giant steps are crucial ..a music professor said "you dont need to play over each chord" just paint a melody over 4 chord """ , i think both way are good, the rest of the bars of Giant Steps are more easy cause ,the are only II -V-I

Wise words exactly spot on
One greatest jazz guitar players of our time.
One of the most melodic solo on these changes I've ever heard
I think that he is one of the best guitar bebop guitarists is ever!
absolutely
Yes!
It’s his phrasing!!! It’s freakin perfect!!!🤦🏽♂️
and gypsy too, a master of both
I think U can cross the "guitar bebop" part.... He's absolutely amazing in any style... And check his tribute to Jaco where he plays bass....
1 minute wealth of great lines to pull from for years
Une compréhension totale de l'âme même du jazz, du swing, du be-bop . Bireli fait partie des plus grands.
Bien dicho hermano
Bereli's tone is phenomenally crystal clear and Absolutely superb!
love the guitar! one pickup, no pickguard, no gold-except your playing! cheers, maestro.. 🎸😎
Lewis Black plays Coltrane. Love it.
Some tell you what to do. Others do it. Just beautiful.
Amazing solo, absolutely amazing!
Crazy that you toured with jaco when you were a teenager... Aahh how happy jaco would be to see this if he were alive now.
I actually saw him do a tribute show to Jaco. He was playing fretless bass flawlessly. Dude's unstoppable haha
master class!!!
Merveilleux Bireli !
Great Bireli!!
Gosh he's so damn good
Absolute Genius!
Phenomenal
que du bonheur , merci Bireli
It’s funny .. he’s so killing .. and he must know how killing he is but he has this thing going on like he doesn’t take himself so seriously .. he just sits and swings his ass off .. I freaking love anything this guy ever did ..
Bellissimo.

Incroyable guitariste!Il y a aussi une version de Jimmy Bruno(un guitariste que je ne connaissais pas) ,sur youtube, qui vaut le détour!
yea!!!!!
Put on 1.25 speed for a tempo closer to the original recoprding
Now that's intense!
No thanks
yeah, this is pretty slow. i'm no jazz guitarist and even i can make this tempo no prob.
Anyone can just blow on the steps at 300bpm these days lol, the challenge is to make the tune sound musical

Ghee -Yah!! Awesome. And apparently he doesn't even know how to read music? Crazy - Gotta love Birelli !
+Chumley Shaver FYI Bireli Lagrene was student of the gypsy guitar academy at 7 yrs old and at 14 yrs old he began to gig with local bands.
+Chumley Shaver Maybe there is hope for me then.....I barely get II-IV-I
+Harry Kuheim II V I you mean :)
Rest assured, Biréli doesn't know what a II V I is, and he doesn't need that ;)
That's utter bullshit that he doesn't know what II V I is , he was just kidding i guess this is just pure bullshit !
fuck yeaaaaahhhhh !

You should be playing in the original Coltrane's song
