John Anderson actually did play Lincoln multiple times in his acting career. He had a very lengthy acting career. He was the car dealer who sells Janet Leigh her fateful car in "Psycho" and he later became most famous as McGyver's grandpa.
@@Olorin-gc8zo I love John Anderson. He was indeed great in "The Survivors" as well as TZ's "The Odyssey of Flight 33." He was almost unrecognizable as an old man in an episode of Little House on the Prairie.
I'm embarrassed that it took me rewatching this video 4 times to remember that Gabriel plays a bugle in the bible so his appearance in this story works on many levels
Right? Like one that ruins it for me is friggin' *ugh* CHARLETON HESTON AS SHERLOCK HOLMES. My dad wrote and self-published a Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper book, Heston has a movie, 'Murder by Decree' where he plays Sherlock Holmes, and right at the start, he's just clearly blindly SAWING at this violin with the bow. It makes me laugh and I can't get past it to take anything else in the movie seriously.
The plot kinda reminds me of _Soul,_ It has an eerily similar presence. A musician down on his luck and then gets into an accident and it’s about life choices. Tell me that doesn’t sound like _Soul._
This is a favorite of mine. It's basically the TZ version of "It's a Wonderful Life", with an angel showing the main character that yes, your life does have worth and that there's always good even in the bad times.
i feellike this version does it even better ebcause they don't directly show the effect the man has on the world just by existing, because it's not the point. His life is worth living because of the small moments, the simple act of LIVING, not because his presence makes the world magically better. Simply being alive, adding some small touch of himself, is all that's needed. Remember: you're the only you in the world, you're irreplacable.
@@sarafontanini7051 I sometimes feel like I'm the only one in the world. Either I'm a ghost that doesn't realize he's dead yet, or I'm one of those people that see dead people but I can't tell the difference. I wander around every day and see people, but they don't see me.
The person who provided the actual music for Joey & Gabe was Uan Rasey, one of the many legendary Hollywood studio musicians of that time. You may also have heard him in Chinatown, Rocky, & The Munsters. He lived to be 91 and passed in 2011. My private teacher look lessons from him for 30 years and described him as the most positive human being to ever live.
I can imagine how hard it is to just act like nothing is happening when this guy is trying to interact with the people around him. The extras in Twilight Zone again I believe delivered here.
Precisely, the extras deserve credit for acting as if they couldn't see or hear Klugman, which is tricky to pull off successfully, but they managed it wonderfully! 🎊👏🏾
When I was a child watching TV, Jack Klugman was Quincy. It's been a joy over the years to see the intensity and sincerity that he brought to other roles.
A nice simple tale yet more uplifting than Jack Klugman’s other episodes. Huge credit to him learning to play the trumpet in a short time. Just wait till you get to “In Praise of Pip”
OMG, Pip! To this day I STILL can't make it through that episode without losing it. Klugman really is just like the trumpet player in the story. Instead of blowing a trumpet, he acts his heart out. He acts and then brings us to tears.
The parts of him in limbo are some of my favorites and I love that after all Joey goes through, he chooses to go forward and then he meets Nan for some positive interactions. I love thinking what their relationship is like after.
He's right that John Anderson is a gem here. He's the type of angel we'd all like to meet. I like this depiction of limbo/purgatory as a place for souls who haven't accepted death yet to live out a simulation of their lives until they're ready to move on. It's been done elsewhere too in media.
The return of the Twilight-Tober Zone. One thing never changes is the Twilight. This whole month is the month of everything being so different. This is why we live in a very magnificent and totally crazy place called... The Twilight-Tober Zone.
Good start to the month. I consider Jack Klugman a very underrated dramatic actor, since I get the impression he is best known for The Odd Couple, which I also love him in. He comes off as more genuine than a lot of other actors who have appeared on the show. I honestly think his performance in In Praise of Pip is the strongest performance in the series.
I ask you, how do you sit through 'In Praise of Pip' without crying? You're either a son who remembers his dad or a dad who thinks of his son. Either way, you're a wreck by the time its over.
I live in New York, and just now, I found myself walking around on a warm breezy summer night. New York on a summer night such as this has a very distinctive feel. Apartment houses don't let you go up on the roof anymore, and jazz clubs are all gone, but the vibe is still there. Its a unique vibe you just don't get anywhere else. Didn't step in front of any trucks but made me think of this episode so I looked it up and here I am.
Just FREAKIN GENIUS .... to correlate an Archangel ie...Gabriel trumpet player to a modern musician trumpet player..... Genius That was the most impressive part about this episode
There's a reason Klugman and Burgess Meredith had the most starring roles on the series. They were perfect for the everyman underdogs Serling so often liked to write about..

Anyone think Gabe looks like Abraham Lincoln here? Fantastic episode. Great acting and trumpet-playing by Klugman. I loved him in The Odd Couple and I’m glad to see him here.
Glad Twilight-tober Zone is back again. Been a Channel Awesome fan for over 10 years, but this series has a special place for me when I had to isolate after testing positive for Covid last October. This series helped keep me entertained and escape the boredom for 10 minutes each day during lunch time. Walter's outro to the first episode last year hit especially close to home considering the circumstances. Thank you for sharing your talents with this crazy world and keep up the good work Walter and CA crew.
*"Passage For Trumpet" is my favorite episode. I remember watching it on it's first run - I was **_really_** young, maybe 8-10, but it left a lasting impression on me that stays to this day.*
I first discovered the twilight tober zone back in January of this year and I thought that was it! No more reviews of other episodes. He came back with a great starter. A Passage for Trumpet 🎺 is TZ version of “It’s a Wonderful Life”. This episode really tags at your heart
So happy this is back! Last year all throughout October, I’d look forward to the next video. This may be my favorite Channel Awesome recurring segment.
This, while not the most thematically-packed Twilight Zone episode ever made, I will say that this is definitely a favorite of mine! While it's solid, overall, what I think hits me the hardest is the epiphany Klugman has about his life, in that he really had some wonderful times, even if they're a bit distant, now. It's just something about the simplicity of his delivery that I like, in how it doesn't ignore the negative parts, but just sort of resolves to take the good with the bad. That and "Gabriel" is a standout, amongst the whole series, as relatively little we saw of him. Great episode!
I thought i had seen all of the original episodes, apparently i missed some. don't recall this one, but Jack was a fantastic actor. will have to go look it up and watch it!
Faded image actually works: Shows his faded hope, existence in this realm and life. If anything it works better because of that. Much like how sometimes people are blurred or zoomed out of when dying or such.
My number 44 episode. Jack Klugman did a great job, as did John Anderson. Glad you noticed the goof when Klugman looked at the sign for coming attractions--just a few seconds, luckily. Also, the stuntman is visible when he gets "hit" by the truck. I didn't understand the minimalist setting at the club. But a great message (a second chance, not everyone gets the message 😮)
"A Passage for Trumpet" remains a heartwarming tale and was a great way to kick off the second year of the Twilight Tober Zone. Comes highly recommended...through that door of imagination 🚪... in the Twilight Zone. 🎺🎼🎵🎶
The problem I usually have with the twilight zone is that I always know the twist because they always do a twist. This episode is the only one that took me genuinely by surprise with the reveal of Gabriel.
As a former trumpet player the reason he does that with the mouth piece is to warm it up. If you start playing it cold it changes the tone of the instrument.
I’ve noticed UA-cam is now making those back to back ads both 15 seconds so you are locked in for 30 seconds without being able to skip. Before, they wore either be skippable after 5 seconds or no more than 10 seconds total. Not going to be long until we start seeing 3 ads back to back.
The glasses effect actually makes it more like he's invisible so when he gets closer that is when one can see him but nobody gets that close to him so I think it works enough
Man, having Abraham Lincoln as the guest-star of the episode was truly EPIC. 🤣🤣🤣
Gaberaham Lincoln!
OMG I WAS LITERALLY THINKING THE SAME THING!!!

Right!? I got goosebumps when the realization hit! Absolutely great storytelling.
Clever touch with Joey being helped by Gabriel since one of his most famous pieces of his iconography is the horn!
Gabriel even tells Joey, "You play a nice trumpet. I should know. I'm an expert on trumpets."

And here, digital trophy 🏆. Seriously I just now got it too thanks to you :0 !
To be fair, people think messenger when talking about Gabriel
Kudos to Klugman for going out of his way to take trumpet lessons for his role, which always helps to add authencity to the story! 📯
I always love it when actors go the extra mile and try to understand the art or craft of their characters to better play them.
It’s a great touch of authenticity

Would that make Gabriel a Jerry?
Good thing Joey went back to his life before Terry realized the count was off.
I think so lol 😃
