    It's not always easy to play two drastically different characters, but the actor really embodied the change through his body language and facial expressions.

    Kinda surprised no one in the comments mentioned that this was also an episode parodied on the Simpsons, in the one where Homer gets a hair transplant from a recently executed Snake.

      I was thinking that too was gonna mention it then i saw your comment plus most the treehouse of horror episodes where parodies of the twilight zone specially the earlier ones, there were also some normal episodes too like bart's comet with people trying to get in ned's bunker

      That was a parody of this episode and also a parody of a segment of the horror anthology film "Body Bags", with Stacy Keach as a guy who gets a hair transplant that turns out to have of its own. (I'd check out that film too; John Carpenter is not just the director, he also is the Crypt-Keeper equivalent hosting the stories.)
      But "The Simpsons" have done a LOT of "TZ" spoofs on "Treehouse of Horror."

    I read a comic version of this story that ended in a different twist. The man wearing the shoes still has his own personality, but goes along with where they take him as he takes revenge on both his and the victim's old partners.
    Then, just before taking off the shoes, they take him out to the pier, and force him to run off. He is the last victim of the dead man's revenge.

    • @TroubleToby3040
      @TroubleToby3040 Рік тому +3

      That works well enough but was there any point at which it dawned on the guy in the shoes that he would be a victim too? I mean, didn't he know the guy would want him too?

    • @Sovreign071
      @Sovreign071 Рік тому +3

      @@TroubleToby3040 If memory serves, the rest of the gang had wronged the wearer somehow, so to him, it was like teaming up with his old buddy to get their revenge together.
      It was only when he started running uncontrollably toward the end of the pier that he realized they intended revenge against him, too.
      My dad gave me a bunch of these comics in these little booklets from a general store during one of our road trips. I can't even find it online!

      @@Sovreign071 I have so much sympathy. When I was a kid, one of my favorite books was a book of Twilight Zone episodes written as short stories. I read it again and again. Don't get me wrong, you can find countless such books today, but I just want the SAME one I had. A copy of it, I mean. But, with so many TZ books to choose from, I can't tell which is the same as mine. I can only remember a few of the episodes for certain. The one with the prisoner that doesn't want to leave behind his robot "girlfriend" was in it. It's basically hopeless. 🤷‍♂️

    This episode was remade in 1985 with Helen Mirren playing a woman possessed by a dead woman's shoes, to seek revenge against her husband, played by Jeffery Tambor, whom had her killed.
    They remade the episode again in 2002 called Dead Man's Glasses with Portia DiRossi as she plays the wife of a murdered businessman, and putting on his glasses can help her find her husband's killer, but it ends with a shocking surprise.

    Also, I just recently watched the 2002 remake (I didn't realize it existed until someone in the comment section mentioned it) and for the most part, it's good. Having the wearer of the murdered person's glasses not only be related to him but having the ability to simply view his memories was a breath of fresh air. I also liked the intrigue of discovering that the time of his killing was wrong and that her husband was having an affair with her friend was also intriguing. Too bad the ending ruined that with a stupid "I repressed my memory of being the killer" twist.

    The original episode was just a bit of film-noir vengeance, but when the 80’s series did their “Dead Woman’s Shoes” remake, just for the sake of picking old classic episodes’ bones (like the Game of Pool remake), the story came off as corny mousy-to-bad-girl empowerment fantasy. imagine how “The Four of Us Are Dying” would have similarly played if they gave up 50’s-noir for cheap demographics…

    I haven't been able to find the episode on UA-cam (The Twilight Zone fan channel is uploading clips of some '80s series with Paul McCartney for some reason.), but I did find the '80s remake that basically genderbent the story. And I have to say, it's not great. We barely get to know anything about the main character other than she's a miserable thrift store clerk who gets harassed by a guy who looks like he belongs on the Rocky Horror Picture Show. And when she puts the shoes on (how it got sold tp the store is anyone's guess), she turns into an unsubtle caricature of a snobbish rich woman. I laughed every time she opened her mouth because the accent was so ridiculous. And how the hell did she continue to be possessed enough to change into a fancy dress despite showering first? Who wears shoes in the shower? Not to mention, the ending was embarrassing with a random replacement maid putting on the shoes and shooting the rich woman's ex-husband instead of the one he recently fired and had an affair with. The only positive I can think of is the use of the mirror to show the possessor's true form and how she's completely oblivious to the fact she's living in another person's body. That trick should've been done in the 2nd Wonder Woman film.
