This is the perfect type of lesson! It's kind of interesting that it took a person doing a lesson on a person doing a lesson, but it just illuminated everything greatly!
Ok, I'm 71 and I play ok, but I saw this and thought well...Nah. Then felt " it will only take a second of my time to see". Then I felt GREAT! She's amazing and fun and see. Yeah, I'm subscribing. Thanks
Damn, I don't think there's an easier way to learn guitar than this, exact fingering with analysis and the original audio, every licks slowed down and disconstructed, that's basically everything i ever wished for! What software do you use to make those animation ? That's seems to be a lot of work. Thanks a lot to Melanie and you, the lesson was wicked
Thank you for splitting Melanie Faye‘s video Lesson into these bits. I rewatched her lesson severals times to get her embellishments but failed. That‘s why her Artistry is unique. It is sympathetic to see that you have a struggle with those pinky stretches, too. Again, Thank you so much!
Hook You are definitely wrong! Playing like this with this particular RnB guitar singing is unique and the video lesson was just intended to give a quick snap of her work. Hater
E7 is major dominant chord because it functions as a secondary dominant for the A- chord. You can alway "secondary dominant" any chord in a progression
great video and lesson, thanks. 6:00 - I think the trick to this sliding technique (at least for me) is correct thumb placement. Combined with a strong and independent pinky (little) finger. Also, being able to stretch open (between the 2nd and 3rd fretting fingers) helps. And this is aided by having the fretting hand thumbs 'contact point' lower on the neck (this allows the fretting hand to 'open up' more, letting you stretch further). Try and keep the thumb (roughly) orientated in line / behind the 2nd fretting finger. Peace.
I really like what you are doing break down all the little nuances to neo soul/R&B style playing it definitely a serious technique its great with the comparable video Awesome Bruh! I really appreciate ya.....
picked out chords i knew(ha!) & few pinky tricks on miss.faye's lesson session.. would've take eons to tab by ear.. but this here is the holy grail, braille for deaf ears.. appreciations.. subbed..
@A. ...its the chord progression! You need to use colorful 7er and 9er Chords and differenz progressons like it is used in jazz!!! That give a real nice sound ;) ...thats why i love thay chords
@@PowMusic I'm guessing you guys haven't heard of scale The summit. they have a song called secret Earth where the whole song is Add9 chords which sounds amazing
On the CMaj add9, its also useful to leave the c note on the low e string out. It sounds more smooth, but less funky, to my ear because the root(C) and the 9th(D) can be a bit much in some situations. It also makes the 5th(G) the bass note, which useful. Of course, it still isnt a beginner chord, but you have a better chance of being able to play standing up. Melanie's other lesson, I think, playing b super locrian over the Cmin(maj7) chord was great too.
I'm new to your channel but just wanted to say that this is incredibly useful - looking at the video overlaid with the fretboard information is really something else. Is that a Fender 75 you are playing through? I used to have one of those, they are great.
thank you!! It's a Fender 30 - I believe in the same family as the Fender 75 - from 1980 I believe! I'm actually looking to sell it. Recently had a complete overhaul by Tone I/O here in Austin and sounds great now! It's just a bit too much for recording.
@@PowMusic Cool, I've never played the 30 but yeah, the 75 was super loud (even on the low power setting which I think was supposed to be 25 watts if I remember correctly). Mine had a 15" speaker and it sounded huge! They are fetching a pretty penny nowadays so you'll probably get a fair bit for this one. What will you replace it with?
Hello Jake, many people use numbers instead of letters, so instead of thinking C-D-E-...-C you would count from 1-2-3-...-1 As such if someone says a 2-5-1 in the key of C, it means D (which is the 2nd chord, and is usually counted as minor) then G (which is the 5th chord which is usually a 7 dominant chord), and then C (which is the 1, often played as a major 7 chord). So 2-5-1 is a musical way to say Dm-G7-C. A minor 2-5-1 would have her do an Bdim-E7-Am if you start on the Am as the number 1 chord... hoping this helped a bit!
The hand movement on the Am9 arpeggio actually hurts me when I play it that way. It isnt that difficult shape wise, (just simple pentatonic) it's an issue of speed. I also have giant foam finger hands, so staying barred is usually more aerodynamic for a four fret span. Regardless, she's very very good with her fluid chord voicings and how vocal she is while playing and vocalizing what it is she is playing. Definitely educated. People are just built different and play things differently.
Question , I thought G7 is G B D F ( 1 3 5 b7 ) but in the chord chart there's a b3 there. Other than that , really wonderfully edit lesson and it's so helpful.
Hi Jaw - yes, G7 is 1-3-5-b7 - are you referring to the D7sus2? That one is called D7sus2 because the third is not part of the chord, so it's neither minor or major.
This is honestly such an innovative channel with the interactive fretboard! Would love to see you visit Sharkey’s solo on the David Ryan Harris/ John Mayer Hotel Cafe recording! Also do you have a patreon?
Very informative! I will share this video with my students when I teach online lessons! I subscribed!

Holy sh*t this video is both incredibly useful and the perfect format for a guitar tutorial.

Nice Presentation Melanie ! That does sound like a Heavenly Harp. 💝💖💗
Thanks for your knowledge!
You are the best !
CORRECTION: In the G7 in the very beginning, the shape is correct, but it should say (3), a major third, not (b3), a minor third. Oops!

that pinky stretch to the 9 is tricky! Can I accuse her of playing a shorter scale neck? She’s such a badass
Thanks for this
My pleasure!
You are awesome. 😮

I wish I could take lessons from this woman
you can! Her contact info is in the description!
Where do I get that fret animation? was that a program or something that was done manually?

Beautiful. Melanie is wonderful.
But I could no more move my pinky up 2 frets on that chord than I could stretch it to Chicago
Cool
muy bueno
This Neo Soul business going around is super tasty.
I love you so much
