I made a similar but bigger board with neopixels, had lots of issues with data pins dying. Turns out we were getting reverse bias on data out pins due to the power plane (L3) not being thick enough creating voltage differential from one led to the next, fixed this with a re spin, updated leds and thicker internal layers. No more problems

Neopixels are space heaters that also happen to produce light. The amount of current they draw is obscene. Glad you fixed it! :)
