  • Effective Supplements and Herbs for Sjogren's Syndrome
For individuals with Sjogren's syndrome, certain supplements and herbs can offer relief from symptoms and support overall health. Omega-3 fatty acids, commonly found in fish oil supplements, are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce inflammation in the body, including symptoms like joint pain and dry eyes.
Vitamin D supplements may also be beneficial, as low levels of vitamin D have been linked to autoimmune conditions like Sjogren's syndrome.
Additionally, herbs like Marshmallow Root and slippery elm may help soothe inflammation in the digestive tract and promote gastrointestinal health, which can be particularly helpful for those experiencing digestive issues associated with Sjogren's syndrome.
Other herbs are Primrose Oil, Turmeric and supplements like NAC and Pycnogenol can really help.
It's important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen to ensure safety and effectiveness.

I used to take evening primrose oil for menopause symptoms on the recommendation of a good friend that's a registered nurse. I stopped taking it when I started taking hormone replacement along with plaquenil. Now I'm intrigued about this supplement. Edit: I used to take pygnogenol too but stopped, uh oh.Thank you so much Dr. Yu!

Maybe I should look into the slippery elm? I have Sjogren's and lately my esophagus has even been feeling dry so wondering if that would help.

I have tried to take vitamin d because I know I need it as I am sitting at a level 9 last I checked. I have primary Sjogrens, Fibromyalgia, and Endometriosis. However, no matter what dosage of IUs that I take, no matter if it is 1000 IU, 5000 IU in pill form or in liquid form, I end up getting episodes out of nowhere of bowel issues. I call them bowel attacks because they cause so much pain in my left side it is exhausting and during these "bowel attacks" I BM 4 times with in an hour and a half starting from Hard stool and by the time my last BM it is soft. Not sure if this is because I have an absorption problem or if it is from slow motility in my intestines or what. I have talked to many doctors about this, but they have never given me any advice or even looked into this issue. 😔
