I'm a swiftie (like diehard swiftie) but I think it's helpful for fans (especially anybody who puts her on a pedestal like she can do no wrong) to listen and be open to reviews that are constructive and to not immediately degrade and death threat anybody who doesn't like the album. I really liked your review, even if I didn't agree with 95% of it.
Same I'm also a swiftie tho I wouldn't call myself diehard but I've been listening to her since I was 7 so I've grown up listening to her. Which I know makes it harder for me to hear people saying her songs suck but I do try and listen to genuine reviews whether the person liked her stuff or not. It's always good to keep an open mind plus I agree that this latest album isn't for everyone, it's a little on the slow side for me and pretty "lore" heavy so it's almost mostly for diehard fans or people who keep up with her outside life.
That’s why I (a swiftie for around 12 years now) watched this. While it is annoying it’s definitely important for her to be criticized. The point where I draw the line is straight up insults or veiled misogyny
i think now that i've seen so much taylor swift content biased to her, it is honestly hard for me to be open to criticism about her but I do try my best to be on both sides of the situation as much as possible. But I do pity how much swifties have been blinded all these years. Yes, they have been spoilt by getting albums so frequently but they are currently at the point where they cannot bear to see taylor being criticised. I was just texting my swiftie friend saying how I initially hated Taylor swift due to the many narratives social media made of her, especially the part where she is greedy. My friend couldnt bear to see me saying that Taylor was even a bit greedy, even when I told her that everyone is bound to be greedy since we are all sinful, and that "No matter what we breed, we still are made of greed", Imagine Dragons reference. I feel really annoyed but I understand her at the same time that I had to apologise for saying that Taylor is greedy as well but not that greedy. Overall, it saddens me to see how big Taylor can influence just through her personality and her songwriting talent that it blinds all the swifties 😔😔

I'm not really sure what you're talking about. She grew up on a farm. The lyric is also not referencing her childhood home. It's meant to critique the toxicity of the music industry in which she entered as a teenager.
okay, but comparing the music industry and how she grew up in it to a place where deranged people who need serious help is not a good metaphor. it's incredibly insensitive
I feel like I don’t hate Taylor’s music, like a like three/four ish songs but her carbon footprint is what I hate. I feel like she has kind of a fake righteous where she acts like such a feminist icon and someone that’s so bohemian and like she’s being attacked by the world, when she really is currently Turing a blind eye to all the issues in the world that if she spoke up about she could help.
@@mushroomkid4510 exactly, she only wear the mask if someone who is some righteous and honest feminist who is the only good billionaire, but she fails to speak up about the women in Palestine or anyone in Palestine that is starving and dying to a lack of medical help because of Israel bombing the place 24/6, plus if she was such a feminist she would be talking about how women and Palestine have to used ripped tent cloth as pads because they don’t have menstrual products.
In her documentary on Netflix she was sobbing about how much she wanted to share her political views no matter the controversy it would bring her because she just couldn’t stay silent anymore. The result? Getting on the VMAs stage and telling people to go vote. As if that’s a controversial political view. She hasn’t spoken up about anything since unless it directly impacts her and her wellbeing. Like voting against a candidate in the primary election because they wanted to protect stalkers or with the AI deepfakes which have been happening for years now and only became an issue to her and other women because now they’re making ones of her.
I'll never understand how she was named TIME'S person of the year. Literally what's the point of her having all this influence if she's not going to use it for an issue of great magnitude like that of Palestine right now
Florence + The Machine make pretty good music, but they clearly didnt have much input lyric-wise because their songs are usually better than Florida!!!
Seriously! Their songs have character and energy, and her voice is much more engaging than Taylor’s. That song was like “here’s a very toned down sample of what you’ll get if you ditch Taylor and go listen to Florence + The Machine instead!”
@@aphrodite9556 imo, it’s saying that women are so infantilized in every aspect of behavior and looks! like we’re supposed to be petite, no hair at all, giggly, etc. Taylor, while she fits some stereotypes, goes against a lot so she feels “like a monster on the hill”. She’s tall, not curvy, etc, so she’s faced backlash for that. I think it’s also a reference to 30 Rock but I never watched it lol
I love Hozier, and when his new album Unreal Unearth came out I listened to the whole thing without having to distract myself, crying, smiling, having a religious experience, absolutely shocked by his penmanship, brilliant mixing and incredible voice and the way he seems to see humanity in this loving light that I really lack in my own life. Then Taylor Swift drops this monster of a double album with a title trying sooo hard to be dead poets society, no depth in her lyrics, nothing much to say, and when I tell people I don't like it I am called sexist. It's just exhausting.
holy shit, you just laid out what I think as well!!! the fact that she literally tried to allude to dead poets society with the title and made something that sounds cheap and reads like it was written in a diary in 30 minutes is a goddamn crime
white woman barely even has vocals that can compete and be on the pedestal with the likes of lady gaga and beyonce and has barely any proper performing skills either. she dances like a tree
Yes!!!! I had the same experience on Hozier's recent album drop. No one can convince me Taylor is a poet, she is a middling middle school English project at the VERY best in terms of lyricism, prose, style. Ttpd is effing embarrassing and cringey af.
She can literally write about the same things over and over again, and make them sound SOOO boring. yet they all go crazy popular - I just don't get it 😭
I think that the reason she’s so popular is that her music is so boring and lifeless, anyone can just project themself onto the song. It’s kind of like when the main character of a series is bland or boring so the audience can relate.
Hi as a casual swiftie (pfp to make people upset) pointing out that you are very correct on it being kinda boring. My personal favourite was I can do it with a broken heart. It reads out as a diary but not in the way she intended. Fresh out the slammer is a reference (I think??) to the lyric ‘he can be my jailer’ which refers to Joe, her ex. Personally Folklore had a lot more depth and poetic. TTPD could have had different mixing I was confused what song I was listening to lol. EDIT: I feel she was trying to play off the success of Folklore. Thanks for the likes(:
As someone with depression (among other mental illnesses and neurodivergence), “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” felt kinda insensitive because when you have a mental illness or are neurodivergent, you sometimes literally can’t do stuff because of your brain chemistry. Plus, she wasn’t talking about doing anything noble; she was talking about her tour that made her win capitalism and had a harmful environmental impact. The song is very inspiration p*rn coded and I feel like it’s just going to help further the narrative that disabled people are just lazy. It’s not that the song is hurtful, but rather harmful due to what it contributes to.
@@ziesnowleopard I too have depression. I can totally see what you mean. I personally (sort of) related to it in a way but it’s insensitive coming from a billionaire Popstar.
I suspect it was put in there because she was facing backlash for dating a notorious racist and white feminism. She uses lyrics/songs to respond to critique and curate her image, and has since "Shake it off". It felt like she put that in there to go "See, I said racism was bad! See!?!?" But her IRL behaviour speaks louder.

Honestly 😭😭 i like her music but i dont get how people would go to war for her.. at the end of the day its nothing new and groundbreaking like people make it out to be 💀
I'm a swiftie who's about ready to give up on Taylor tbh. Her writing is too self-referential now, the production is nothing new and she needs to branch out, this album specifically gives "sad little rich girl" energy in the most shallow way, and I just can't even imagine being close to her as a person because her every action is for the lore of her brand and probably feels ingenuine. 31 songs on one project is absurd and I understand wanting to put out as much of your art as possible, but it becomes repetitive and boring and it almost guarantees that most of those songs won't be repeat listens. At this point in Taylor's career, no one is telling her no anymore. She needs guidance and editing that she either isn't seeking or her circle is too afraid to suggest. She has great potential when under the right circumstances. I'd like to see her do another album like 1989 (but maybe not the same genre) where her writing was quite neutered which made it sharp, and the production was able to shine too. If she puts out another album with the same sound and vibe as Midnights or Tortured Poets, I'll be stepping back from the fandom lol
Same, I've been a swiftie for six years. I fell in love with her in reputation era. But with ttpd I've found it really boring. Moreover I've been annoyed by some of her actions and have been questioning her ever since she dated racist matty and the way she's singing about him so lovingly in some of these songs is off putting.
@@thee_earlwhy would it suck, they’re not wasting money on a stadium concert where the only way you can see the artist is on a big screen. She has some good songs, but not nearly enough to warrant that
that's because she had co-writers who weren't Jack Antonoff, who seems more content for studio time to be having fun with friends, instead of pushing her to do better. The difference between her songs with Aaron Dessner vs Jack is REALLY glaring. It's no coincidence that folklore/evermore are consistently named as her best albums and most mature songwriting, the Dessner songs (plus, it must be said, the ones Joe worked on as well) are a cut above, artistically - that genre is not for me personally, but I can still see the difference. Then on Midnights with Jack she immediately regressed again with some absolute clangers like Karma - no way would Aaron have let that one through lol
I think Taylor has gotten to a point where she knows she can put out complete garbage and her fans would eat it up regardless because her fans refuse to hold her accountable to anything she does..
Ikr like her fans are shoving every single one of her songs down their throats and trying to convince themselves a bad song is "good" by saying "I didn't like it at first but iT GrEw uP oN mE". If you like a song, you like it, end of story but if you don't then you don't, that's it. You don't make excuses to justify why is not good.
the problem is the swifties who cannot take criticism and start doxxing people who don't like taylor or have a slight negative view of her music or persona. honestly, i didn't listen to the new album yet but I'm kinda disappointed already.

The only song on that album I listened to was Florida because I'm a Florence + the Machine fan and it just felt kinda off. I don't think their singing styles mesh very well, Florence always feels a bit raw while Taylor Swift is very pop-y (which isn't a criticism). Also was I the only one weirded out by how the song uses drug/substance use as like, a metaphor, when only one of them (Florence) has actually struggled with alcoholism is the past. It just feels like a weird disconnect behind the experiences you know?
im a huge swiftie and i adored this album so much, but i agree that the lyrics could be confusing/the beats and mixing were not very good. i appreciate music and the intricacies of it, but i've always approached taylor's songs as poems before anything else. of course what constitutes as 'good poetry' is also subjective, but i genuinely think many of the songs on TTPD stand better as poems. also every time i hear a song, i like to think about which fictional character i associate with it, and this album happened to use a lot of symbols that are present in my current hyperfixation. this video was so funny though and i loved seeing your bewildered reactions and roasts. i find it's always nice to expose myself to new or critical opinions on the media i like, it helps with critical thinking and not living in an echo chamber :)
i’ve seen someone on pinterest say “if you don’t like taylor swift, then you’re not a girls girl” thankfully everyone in the comments was literally demolishing them and they deleted the post soon after.
I've watched some dating youtube video years ago where the woman was telling other women that they should find men who like taylor swift (she was trying to make a point that the man you date should have some favorite female singers but she specifically named taylor swift) nobody but me in the comments was pointing out that just because a man doesn't like taylor swift doesn't mean he hates women
the artist included on the eighth song is Florence & the Machine! they make insanely good music, the song “Dog Days are Over” that was super popular (and even featured on Glee if i remember correctly) is made by them! i definitely recommend them
It’s really sad how unhinged her cult members are. Someone posted their thoughts on the album and was being doxxed and had death threats sent to their home. These parasocial relationships are out of hand. Grown women acting like children.
yeah taylors such a tortured definetly original poet in her billion dollar mansion, flying her private jets and releasing 8000 tons of carbon in the air🥰
These replies are missing the point, she constantly feels sorry for herself in her privileged high chair, while people shouldn’t fight over who has it worse it’s hard to feel bad for someone like her
Once upon a time i liked taylor swift. Now even looking at her makes me want to crawl out of my skin. I put on this new album, i gave it a listen, my husband walks in the room just as i scream "I HATE THIS F-ING ALBUM!" Glad i escaped that cult. For me, its not so much that "every song sounds the same, and its boring" for me its more the messaging... there is a lot of "ill kill myself if i dont get my way" and "hes depressed so hes bad, im depressed and im an angel", there was a lot of "people dont like this person for a reason but hes my twin and im going to die without him"(if hes your twin, and no one likes him, what does that say about you). Its very very toxic and theres a LOT of people listening to that message and thinking its "girl bossing" and "taking charge". Shes a 34 year old who keeps singing about how men do her wrong. At what point is she going to grow up and realize shes the problem. This "era" is so toxic and abuse filled and its giving the wrong message to the youngings who are still stuck in the cult.

Not to defend T Swift, but what she very likely means by "smelling like small babies" is probably baby powder. She's probably saying all her friends have children, or are smoking weed. It's not too weird honestly, babies definitely smell like baby powder and so do the people who live around them.
@@laub.9198 yeah idk that's a bit of a stretch it's probably just her saying everyone else is happy whether they're starting a family or doing drugs to get there.
@@laub.9198 With the lyric "My friends all smell like weed or little babies" she talks about where she is in her life and how friendships grow and change as you grow older. As adults, some of her friends already have their families and little babies, and some don't have families and are spending their time clubbing or whatnot and she probably doesn't feel too good about it because she would like to get married and have her own family but she's not there yet. It's really not that difficult to understand and it's something many of us can relate to. I don't have my own family yet, but some of my friends from school do.
Point you can make in order to not defend T Swift: at that point it’s just a stupid lyric. Just because synonyms are twisted around doesn’t make it deep; it’s just confusing and pretentious. If its meaning gets completely lost, it failed its purpose.
@@ziesnowleopard well, that's the thing. The meaning wasn't completely lost as it was easy to understand (for me, at least) to know what she was saying, but I'm not gonna disagree that it is not a very good lyric lol.

the line “all my friends smell like weed and little babies” is saying that in her thirty’s all her friends either spend crazy nights with drugs and alcohol or have families. I’m a STAN of ms taylor and lyricism wise i’d say this is her best album in my opinion. the instrumentals are a little dull but overall i think it’s pretty good. love the vids louis, btw florence and the machine is really good. “Lungs” (her album) 🔛🔝
totally agree with ttpd having the best lyricism, its so good and i adore it, but i'd understand if someone found the lyrics confusing on first listen 😅
exactly. it's kind of funny seeing people completely miss the point of some these lyrics, which i understand to an extent since it's a lot to take in on a first listen, but going as far as dismissing her songwriting abilities or accusing her of copying another artist is a bit delusional and animosity driven. the album is definitely hard to get into, and i think it's because of the very muted synth pop and lyric-driven aspect of the album, but i doubt that was unintentional. it was most definitely a creative choice. but once you look into it, it's honestly just a really raw, vulnerable, and authentic album, especially for her fans. i saw someone describe it perfectly by saying: it doesn't push itself at first, but instead invites you to come along for the ride and rewards you more each time you listen. it's kind of similar to how Pinkerton was received by the public when it was released. in my honest opinion, ts just a really nuanced and unhinged album with a lot of layers that people aren't willing to peel back, but then again, this has happened with so many albums of hers lol. (reputation, lover, folklore, etc.)

This rant is a dose of sanity when I feel like maybe I’m the crazy one, the only one who didn’t turn into a Swiftie zombie. Every song idea sounds like it’s based on something clever she heard on the internet, every song has the same chord progression and structure, every poem is the same structure.
I appreciate that!
Same!❤😊
i think now that i've seen so much taylor swift content biased to her, it is honestly hard for me to be open to criticism about her but I do try my best to be on both sides of the situation as much as possible.

Remember when swifties braged about her being able to stop the palestine crisis if she'd talked about it. Then why didn't she...
I'm starting to get annoyed heading about her and seeing her pm my socials
Literally what's the point of her having all this influence if she's not going to use it for an issue of great magnitude like that of Palestine right now
Florence + The Machine make pretty good music, but they clearly didnt have much input lyric-wise because their songs are usually better than Florida!!!
true I love them!! 💜
Florence was fighting for her life to make those long sentences fit in pretty much nonexistent music of the song.
Yes! Love them
@acorn9134 This is probably the most egregiously wild statement I've seen on the Internet.

It’s a “friends” reference

I KNEW the title sounded familiar. She’s so pseudo-deep.
Yes!!!! I had the same experience on Hozier's recent album drop. No one can convince me Taylor is a poet, she is a middling middle school English project at the VERY best in terms of lyricism, prose, style. Ttpd is effing embarrassing and cringey af.

It’s crowd effect.
cause she has a culty fan base
Npc music, as they say
I listened to it in order, and I genuinely couldnt tell when a new song had started 😭
@@MaggieDaArtist honestly same there was a point in time where I paused a song and had thought it was a part of the next one lol
On my re-listen. I was like "Wait, which song is this one again?"
The 1830s line was actually crazy
I suspect it was put in there because she was facing backlash for dating a notorious racist and white feminism.

Ikr!! Her lyrics from Speak now and red were miles better and more matured 😭
that's because she had co-writers who weren't Jack Antonoff, who seems more content for studio time to be having fun with friends, instead of pushing her to do better.
I think Taylor has gotten to a point where she knows she can put out complete garbage and her fans would eat it up regardless because her fans refuse to hold her accountable to anything she does..
lol imagine having 3 billion peaple disagreeing with you *oh wait they won’t Cause ur a nobody*

im a huge swiftie and i adored this album so much, but i agree that the lyrics could be confusing/the beats and mixing were not very good. i appreciate music and the intricacies of it, but i've always approached taylor's songs as poems before anything else. of course what constitutes as 'good poetry' is also subjective, but i genuinely think many of the songs on TTPD stand better as poems. also every time i hear a song, i like to think about which fictional character i associate with it, and this album happened to use a lot of symbols that are present in my current hyperfixation. this video was so funny though and i loved seeing your bewildered reactions and roasts. i find it's always nice to expose myself to new or critical opinions on the media i like, it helps with critical thinking and not living in an echo chamber :)

(Which I get, first impressions and all that but not changing your impression even after a long time means you're biased, and being biased means unreliable, not worth listening to, and faulty)
Not all songs, but definitely should be more than just a few

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised
Um the flip.. she started writing when she was 10 there wasn’t any “AIiiIIIii” than
Finally someone who is not crazy about Taylor Swift. Im suck of hearing about her
Not to defend T Swift, but what she very likely means by "smelling like small babies" is probably baby powder. She's probably saying all her friends have children, or are smoking weed. It's not too weird honestly, babies definitely smell like baby powder and so do the people who live around them.
I think is about c0c4ïn3
The meaning wasn't completely lost as it was easy to understand (for me, at least) to know what she was saying, but I'm not gonna disagree that it is not a very good lyric lol.
so im just scrolling through the comments and tryna look for angry swifties wb the rest of yall
Angry Swifties= getting mad because haters are forgetting Taylor Swift is a person as well and has feelings, also getting mad because there judging her music of like anti hero and shake it off.
Haters=hating on a real person they know nothing about who has fealings for likes.
Saying that “kAniAy WeSt” made her famous even tho she had 2 Grammies befour the incident also *who was the one getting a VMA award for the you belong with me music video on that day?* ❤

PLEEAAAASEEEE DO MORE ALBUM REVIEWS!! I also play bass and I would love to hear your opinions!!
louis please bring more episodes of this I love this format so much
I’m glad this topic is being more brought to light. Ever since I started listening to music, I’ve thought Taylor was very elemental, and yeah had a few good radio hits but other than that, I never understood the intensity of the fan base, how she talks about the same three topics all the time and manages to always win an award. There’s so many other artists that are so poetic and overall well rounded in their lyrics, visuals, etc. I’m enjoying watching these tea videos lol finallyyyy buahahaha 🍿
as a swiftie i agree with most of this review. the album was her worst yet and i don’t get why other swifties are saying its her best work. i literally found myself falling asleep on my first listen 💀..
like girl if you want to be like mitski just say so
does she even know who mitski is..?
florida!!!
is my favourite song on the album because florence and the machine raised me. i liked her part of it because it carried the rhythm and essence of her earlier albums (lungs & ceremonials) which RAISED ME
honestly florence executes constantly what taylor seemed to be trying to do in this album.
Im a swiftie and was so excited for this album but i was so disappointed. its so bad. it sounds strained, the lyrics are weird, the beats are weird, everything sucks. And im a musician, ive been surround by music my entire life AND THIS IS NOT GOOD MUSIC. Such a let down omg
i feel like taylor doesn’t get nearly as much hate as she thinks she does- this is a hot take i know but any black woman in music gets significantly more flack than taylor fucking swift- she has done record breaking tours and gets grammys for everything she releases- she isn’t even making original music anymore and shes still praised- while there’s plenty of women making good creative music and getting overshadowed by taylor and her pity party.
I know she’s capable of clever lyrics and vocal variety with shake it off
Taylor Swift: “Don’t ask questions. Just consume product and then get excited for next product.”
YIPPEEE HE POSTED‼️

If you wish Florida was crazier then absolutely check out Florence + The Machine!! A lot of their music has that very haunted, dramatic vibe that I don't really think meshes well with Taylor's palatable music style 😅 I especially recommend the first two albums!!

Swiftie and Louis fan here, I welcome all criticism of this album! I loved it personally, but I understand the critical aspect. I feel like she wrote the song for fans specifically. Seeing as i had a lot of traumatic stuff happen to me recently (sa and trying to recover from that), this album resonated with me greatly. But then again, I'm excited to hear the ciritical analysis of this album!
As soon as you said “number 15” I whispered Burger King foot lettuce.
I’m a #swiftie but this album took me two listens to get into, it’s definitely not her best work by any means but I also don’t think it’s fair for her to get so much hatred because of it. THAT BEING SAID!!! I appreciate your opinion and how you are honest without being tactless and how you are willing to accept constructive criticism 🩷

the line “all my friends smell like weed and little babies” is saying that in her thirty’s all her friends either spend crazy nights with drugs and alcohol or have families. I’m a STAN of ms taylor and lyricism wise i’d say this is her best album in my opinion. the instrumentals are a little dull but overall i think it’s pretty good. love the vids louis, btw florence and the machine is really good. “Lungs” (her album) 🔛🔝
Yeah people think her references to babies are her being creepy but they’re just ignoring metaphors I guess?😭
bladee got way bettter lyricism lmfaoo
totally agree with ttpd having the best lyricism, its so good and i adore it, but i'd understand if someone found the lyrics confusing on first listen 😅
exactly. it's kind of funny seeing people completely miss the point of some these lyrics, which i understand to an extent since it's a lot to take in on a first listen, but going as far as dismissing her songwriting abilities or accusing her of copying another artist is a bit delusional and animosity driven. the album is definitely hard to get into, and i think it's because of the very muted synth pop and lyric-driven aspect of the album, but i doubt that was unintentional. it was most definitely a creative choice. but once you look into it, it's honestly just a really raw, vulnerable, and authentic album, especially for her fans. i saw someone describe it perfectly by saying: it doesn't push itself at first, but instead invites you to come along for the ride and rewards you more each time you listen. it's kind of similar to how Pinkerton was received by the public when it was released. in my honest opinion, ts just a really nuanced and unhinged album with a lot of layers that people aren't willing to peel back, but then again, this has happened with so many albums of hers lol. (reputation, lover, folklore, etc.)

That's always been my problem with her, especially with her recent albums 😭 I tried to get into her bc of how popular she is, but all her songs sound the EXACT same, like they are not melodically interesting AT ALL 💀 so I just could not get into her, I find her music so boring 😭😭
@@josiea.3855 exactly! I find some of her lyrics clever and interesting but she really doesn’t appeal that much to me. I personally like artists like Melanie Martinez cause her songs all have their own flare
@Strawberry_Sweety yes omg! I like Melanie a lot too, her lyrics are super clever AND her music is melodically really cool and unique whereas Taylor only seems to really have one of those things
@@josiea.3855 the way Melanie’s music sounds is just so magical to me and diverse, whereas Taylor’s usually uses the same instruments and gets repetitive

This rant is a dose of sanity when I feel like maybe I’m the crazy one, the only one who didn’t turn into a Swiftie zombie.
Every song idea sounds like it’s based on something clever she heard on the internet, every song has the same chord progression and structure, every poem is the same structure. Every melody is the same, with that “killer bridge” just being her conversationally going from scale degree 1-5-1-5-1-5 over and over, and every verse ends with scale degree 4 then 3 to avoid resolution. Every time! The only variety is in the instrumentals.
My review of the album was simply “I liked the part where it wasn’t Taylor Swift but instead it was Florence + The Machine.” (That group is actually pretty good!)
florence and the machine are the people featured in the song florida! they are really great, and i really like their music!! they recently released an album called dance fever which i haven’t listened to yet but have heard is pretty good! one of my fave songs from them is called dog days are over, and i really like the like music track in it and how well the mixing is in terms of the vocals and making sure they don’t cover up how good the like music is (sorry if this doesn’t make any sense lol)
