After my mum died, I ran out of family from down here, and I've found myself watching alot of videos of Dorset from when my mum and nan were still living here. 1996 was the first year I visited Poole when I was 4 years old. I love watching stuff like this, it's lovely to feel a bit more connected to my home :)
Thank you for reviving memories of the 70s trips to sunbathe on Studland Beach...lovely to see Ken Thomson too...he was the first Skipper I ever saw in May '70...dgp
thats my dad at 12.25 on . god rest his soul , miss you dad . I worked with him on this ferry and its replacement , all good guys to work with , except brian andrews !!!!
So glad i found this video. Happy memories of holidays in Parkstone in the 70s and 80s and at my aunts who lived there. Used the 'old' ferry many times, glad to see it was later used as an oyster processing plant in Poole Harbour and still is i think?
I am used to the Mersey Ferry. I went down to Bournemouth for a few days, was thinking of going on the ferry, then saw how close it was to the other side!! Build a bridge!
The years before 2000 were great times and British people were by and large happy. Ever since then it's been downhill with all sorts of stuff to put up with not least mass immigration! This video reminds me of the good times.
Fleeting glimpse of my late dad at 9m50s in his toll box. Weird seeing him after almost 19 years. Thanks for posting

Brilliant. Thank you. Why don't they make documentaries like this anymore.
Studland was great when it was the beach for the locals. I'll never forget when my Mum visited me and went for a nice stroll through the dunes :D

Thanks for the update on the fate of the old ferry. Please share this with anyone who may be interested!

Can't build a bridge, the Cherbourg car ferry's got to go through there.
We do still have some of the staff on the ferry! I've put a link on the Bournemouth Swanage Ferry Facebook page to your video, it's wonderful to see!
I remember this ferry in 1964. where is it now.great memories and the bus went on it
Lmfao. "A modern contraption like a bridge". Lol. Bint.

All thanks to madman Blair after 1997.
@@KILKennyLaDa9898-js2nrYes, Blair and his frikn 'human rights' lawyer wife were treacherous rats to Britain
No Hi-vis & everyone was so much thinner then.
It always amuses me that this is the 'Bournemouth and Swanage' ferry, but doesn't go to either town.
This is actually from 1992
SNAP!
