I used to work at Captain D’s from 2016-2018 and I love their fish sandwiches and couldn’t resist them. Heck, I even got the opportunity to try The Southern Style Flounder Sandwich in 2023 last year. It was scrumptious. I have also tried the Cajun Catfish Sandwich, though.
They are pretty big too.
Arby's Fish "N Cheddar, my favorite now. I just had it for the first time.
Last year, I ordered from Wendy's online and got two fish sandwiches and fries and onion rings with two drinks, which was paid for by credit card. When I went to pick up my order, I was informed that that location didn't have fish sandwiches. They had the nerve to bring me the drinks and sides. I even had to go online to get my money put back on my card. I've never gone back. Luckily, there was a Popeyes close by and their fish sandwiches were really good.
Most of these restaurants are not available where I live. But I do enjoy the crispy fish sandwich from Arby's.
When it is available, Arby’s over Captain D’s any time.
I just had the Arby's fish sandwich today on sale two for $6 what a deal and what a fish sandwich by far away the biggest fish sandwich out of most of the fast food chains I could only eat one and I save the other one for dinner

I worked for Wendy's for 15 years. I've seen how much it cost for a case. It's not cheap. For some franchises, they don't make enough profit to keep it year round.
The breading on it has some weird off flavor I don't particularly enjoy.

Arby's Crispy Fish is quite good. I only wish it was a regular part of their menu, not a seasonal item.
I agree. Nice big piece of fish that covers the bun. Capt. D's also makes a nice large tasty sandwich.
I’m surprised that Long John Silver’s didn’t make the list-my most favorite fish and seafood place! But I also think that Arby’s is my favorite out of this particular list.
Long John's chicken is good ASF too, that batter dipped stuff is awesome

When I worked for Arthur Treacher's, they had a decent sandwich but they are now out of business. This year, I'm going to taste test as many fish sandwiches as I can and pick a favorite. I actually loved Mickey D's filet-ofish but it's smaller now and there's more bun than fish. 😮

We live in Mid Missouri and Culver's is right down the street. The cod fish dinner and sandwiches are absolutely THE BEST. Lightly battered, delicious cole slaw, killer fries, its A+++ around. Coincidentally, they're right next to Arby's. Which has a decent sandwich but it's Culver's. 😏
Culvers recently came to our area. I ordered just a piece of fish. My new go to for fish!
Mardi Gras/Lent is coming soon which means Arby's and Popeye's will be rolling out their fish sandwiches soon! I am geeked!
Arby’s put’s out a good cod sandwich! I have only remember a couple yrs it was off but, they are back on it this year! I have never tried Culver’s, I hope I get to try it in the near future since, one is coming to our town! I miss Captain D’s, they had one where, I once lived and, Our pizza Chain LaRosa’s Out of Cincinnati, OH my birth place puts out a great Beer Batter Haddock Fish Hoagie with hand cut thick fries!

I at at Captain D's once. That greasy, and I mean GREASY, mess gave me nausea and diarrhea. On the way home, I had to pull over twice so my wife could vomit. So, there's my review of Captain D's.
Captain D's fish sandwich is great despite mothman's opinion. Just be hungry when you order it.
I can't tell you the last time I had a fish sandwich but I am surprised Long John Silver's is missing from this list.
Wendy's has a good fish sandwich when it's available. That's only about 1-2 months out of the year. McD's has reduced the size of their fish sandwich by 20% while increasing the price. I'm going to try Bonefish. Didn't know they had a fish sandwich like that.
The best value by far, is Checkers. You get 2 fish sandwiches for only $4.50 (& used to be only $3, less than 2 years ago) verse McDonald’s, costs over $5, for just one very “small” (& getting smaller) filet-o-fish square.
I haven’t had it in a long time but the Checkers fish sandwich was my favorite by far.

The only way I have found to get genuine wild caught cod or any fish that is not a switch and bait or a substitution is to buy direct from fisheries like in Alaska that advertise it as such. One source I have used is Great Alaska Seafood where you can order direct online or even call them. Once you taste the fresh shipped fish from there you will know the difference and find it is worth the extra cost. They offer specials that come up thru signing up for their e-mail notifications and large quantity bulk prices. There are other sources in Alaska that do same as well, but make sure you are ordering fresh wild caught products from there.

I live in New Bedford Massachusetts, which is a huge fishing port. Fresh seafood is a way of life here. No problem getting delish fresh fish sandwiches in this town at the many non-chain places.
Hey Dianne........Burger King had a fish sandwich years ago, but they were always stale when nobody ordered one for awhile as they kept a made sandwich on the shelf until it sold.....

I have 2 in where I live. 1 is run better than the other. And their fish sandwiches are my favorite.
Maybe three years ago there were none in my part of Florida and now there are two nearby. They’ve done a lot of expansion but maybe they’re slowing down.
While I am a big beef and meat lover, I always go for a fresh fried fish sandwich before a juicy hamburger. Or maybe both! LOL!
Culver’s is the BEST!! I love their food!! And , yes, cheddar cheese DOES belong on fish sandwiches!!!!!

Our culver's has become terrible. Everything is dripping with grease and burnt. It's so bad the place is barely busy anymore. I only go for the custard
I love fish sandwiches any time of year but especially during the Lenten season. After hearing praises for the Culver's fish sandwich, I tried it and was very disappointed. To me it seemed like it had been under the warming light all day. Have never gone back but maybe I should give it one more chance.

Culver’s fish cannot be beat. The only comparable if you’re lucky to live in the area come from Frisches, my fav from childhood.
I have always lived in Ohio. Frisch’s has always been the absolute best fish. With the best tartar sauce.
We've has Culver's, Arby's, MacDonald's and several others. We like the A&W fish sandwich the best.

I love a good fish sandwich. I do not frequent quick service restaurants, but I have always thought Wendy's was the place I would go for a burger. I guess I need to try their fish sandwich.
Their Cod was really good, but they went to Pollock.

I've had McD's fish, and it's good, but damn it is pricey!! Some of the chains listed here are regional. Here in Oklahoma City we don't have Culver's, Captain D's, Checker's/Rally's, or Bonefish Grill. Long John Silver's has combined with A&W Root Beer, and throughout the entire OKC Metro there are only three of them. We used to have Captain D's but they disappeared, ditto for Arthur Treacher's. Never been a fan of Whataburger, didn't know they had a fish sandwich, I'll have to try it. Wendy's is good, wish they carried it year round. Burger King has one, it's okay but nothing to write home about. Our Sonic chain used to have a fish, but it was discontinued due to lack of sales. It's now 1:30am and I'm hungry after all this.
Culver’s Walleye dinner is the best. When in season of course.
While I would've agreed a few years ago now the food is always greasy and burnt. It's definitely not worth $12 for a walleye value basket

We just got our first McD. EVER in the Columbia valley in BC. For decades the only thing I'd ever have out of McD. is their fish sandwich, which usually is made to order, so you know it's hot and ready!

I married into a family that does not eat fish. We went to Florida with one of the brothers and he was coerced into trying grouper and it became a religious awakening for him. If grouper is on the menu anywhere that's what he wants. It's a mighty fine fish to be sure.
You didn't mention Long John Silvers but I'm pretty sure they and Captain D's are owned by same corporation. Both restaurants are similarly set up but for the year I lived in Colorado and got the chance to experience Captain D's I did prefer them over LJS.

I agree Culvers is good but they are so expensive! I can't afford them very often
what the world needs is a good grilled salmon burger. Fast food places need to do it. Its a much healthier burger.
Culver's is okay, but it's on the bland side. Some seasonings in the batter would fix that.
McDonalds tartar sauce is far and away superior than everybody else. But overall, Arby's fish sandwich reigns supreme..
Of all the ones mentioned, the only one I've had was the Arby's. I'm something of a fish sandwich snob and as such, tend to stick to the independents instead of the chains. I'm a picky diner when it comes to burgers of any kind and I don't like too many toppings which drown out the taste. Some of these look good, though.

I tried the Culvers fish sandwich once. The fillet is a 1/3 smaller than in your video. Unless they have increased the size of the bun. Fish was lost in the bun. No Captain D's here unfortunately.
I am surpried you don't have the Burger King fish sandwich. I think it is as good, (if not better) than any of the ones on this list.

Hardees panko breaded fish sandwich during lenten season is the best. Puts McDonald's filet o fish to shame. Cannot find the filet in McDonald's fish sandwich. Seriously, spend 5 dollars and see for yourself. Culvers and hardees hands down in upper midwest

Haven't tried Popeyes, wouldn't be surprised if it was the best one. I like Wendy's, but their fish sandwich has some weird rancid off flavor in the breading. The one at McDonald's is gross lol. Most of these other franchises don't exist on the west coast.

Actually these "seasonal" fish sandwiches coincide with the Catholic period of Lent from February untill Easter when Catholics don't eat meat on Fridays. Some people even give up meat for the whole 40 days.
My wife and I are very strong Pescatarians and I wonder what oil the fish is cooked with, that’s my concern.

Freddy's has a delicious sandwich. Not junk fish either, Alaskan flounder I believe.
ALL of the ocean fish contain mercury now. Including the cod, pollack, salmon. The test amounts are shown on the FDA's website. I quit tuna completely over 20 years ago, after they started putting warnings on the cans.

Lack of transparency is a big reason why people avoid fish products, including the ones you buy at a grocery store. The "switch and bait" and "artificial fillers" scheme is so common that you think you're paying for a $30 wild-caught Cod when in reality, it's a Tilapia farm-raised somewhere in Asia or South America in the most polluted sewageconditions and fed pesticide and feces ridden animal feed.
I would NEVER trust any restaurant to use high quality fish, unless they prepare a live one in front of me + offer proof of sourcing from a wild-caught only supplier.

I am with you not trusting fast food with fish. I however, enjoyed McDonald fish and secret sauce. The sauce is spot on tartar sauce. But I hear certain things about the fish sandwiches over the years from Mc Donald’s .

I guess all Arby's are different as in managers, staff , cooks but the worst fish sandwich I ever had was a Arby's. Some Arby's are better than others but the one I went to was bad.
Yes, it depends on who cooks it more than anything because, you really have to know how to fry / cook it in the deep fryer, because, if they don’t it will easily get under cooked or over cooked. Never had any of those problems at any the Arby’s I had it! That’s awful to hear because, if you went to a Arby’s that done it right, the bread in ding is a lightly battered, not heavily and, it has a nice lightly salted crispy texture, it’s been one of the best fish sandwiches that , I have had, it’s a white fish but, it’s no longer Cod, Cod is still what makes the best fish sandwich!
Had a Wendy’s fish sandwich yesterday. It was horrible! It seemed like it was from the day before, dry, hard and nasty. Trust me, I am not a fast food snob. I was shocked to find so many people loved it. Maybe I just had a bad crew to serve me. Did not seem fresh at all. I will try it again next Lent Friday.
They need to get rid of by season only and serve all the time. The same thing with breakfast, many times at dinner I prefer to eat eggs, quit telling us when we can eat certain dishes.

I ate at Captain D'd twice: FIRST AND LAST time, and that was one visit. Can you say GREASY, boys and girls? I came away with nausea and diarrhea, but had to pull over along the road on the way home so my wife could vomit a couple times. Yep, good stuff that Captain D's grease bomb special. Never again!
T depends on whose cooking that fish and knows what they are doing! Fish can easily be under cooked and, easily over cooked in the fryer! The breading will taste greasy if if it’s over done. Yep, and, if they aren’t keeping those fryer’s clean, that sure does ruin the customer’s experience! If that fryer isn’t kept clean,complain because, it can also make your fish taste old and funky and, you maybe questioning if the fish is very fresh!
