Good for Barry for standing his ground. I’ve never heard this story before. Things sure worked out for him. Met him once about a year ago at an indie show that I worked ring crew and security for. Nice guy. He actually walked up to me, stuck out his hand and said, “hi there… Barry Darsow.” I shook his hand, smiled, trying not to mark out too much, and said, “nice to meet you, Mr. Smash.” “Oh, so you’ve seen me wrestle?” “Yes sir, was a huge fan of Demolition.” He said it was nice to meet me too, then went and put on the face paint, as he was there with Eadie doing photos and autographs. So cool

Barry and Bill Eadie conduct some of the best interviews on UA-cam. They are also both articulate and always so forthcoming when reminiscing about their pro wrestling careers.

Barry can't get this story straight. It's complete BS. Darsow left in December 1986. They were not feuding with The Rock N Roll Express. They were feuding with The Kansas Jayhawks and Barry Windham and Ronnie Garvin. He was not replaced with Nikita. Nikita was a babyface at the time!!!!!The Rock n roll Express feud was 1985. There was no Sam Houston match either. Very faulty memory.

@@user-we3me3dg1y so he is giving the reason he left from things that happened a year earlier. Lol it doesn't make sense. His timeline is nonsensical. We still don't know why he left at the end of 1986. Lol

@@tomh1593I went to the comments exactly for this. These guys can get the timelines off as they tell their "story."
I thought the part where Eadie was in Japan and then a few weeks later Darsow needed time off to heal was odd.
In my mind the Demolition had just started with the Moondog and needed an immediate replacement.

    • @michaelmadden8269
      @michaelmadden8269 7 місяців тому +2

I just looked them all up on the IWD.
Eadie was in Japan 12/11/86 tagging with Dick Murdoch.
Darsow was in Richmond 12/28/85 tagging with Uncle Ivan at Starrcade '86.
Eadie and Colley were starting as Demolition 1/4/87 and went to 1/6/87. 3 Matches.
      Darsow started with Eadie 1/26/87.
Darsow wrestled Sam Houston at Starrcade '85 11/28/85 and then was off for 7 months.

Remember watching him play the role of the monster Russian heel when NWA (World Wide Wrestling) first started airing here in Philly in late 1984, early 1985 on channel 17 @ 2pm. Ivan/Krusher vs. Rock'n Roll Express for the NWA tag team belts broadway match back in July, 1985 is among the best example of the pro-wrestling artform you will ever see.

The character of Demolition Smash should have continued even after Demolition was broken up. No other character that Barry Darsow ever played holds a candle to Demolition Smash. The top brass at the WWF foolishly broke up and terminated Demolition in September of 1991, because they felt that L.O.D. was the better tag team to push. Lo and behold, Road Warrior Hawk's drug addiction ended L.O.D.'s run in the WWF following his doped-up performance at SummerSlam '92, and the disbanded Demolition wasn't around to pick up the slack.

Barry always told the same story. The match with Sam Houston of course was Starrcade 85 in November 1985., BUT., he continued working thru to 1987 since Ivan & Krusher would win the first U.S. Tag Team titles in a tournament in the fall of 1986, and defend the titles at Starrcade 86 and lose then in 1987. So he DID NOT just quit the same day, week or month or year he worked with Sam Houston.

I was born and raised on Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling in Richmond VA, and Barrys timeline is way off here. He legit injures his knee in January '86 against Sam Houston and is out until the Summer. He and Ivan won the U.S. Tag Team Title Tournament September 28. Immediately afterwards, he and Nikita go on a brief tour of All Japan. When they return, Nikita made the face turn. Ivan & Krusher beat the Kansas Jayhawks at Starrcade '86. Dec 13, Ron Garvin & Barry Windham beat Ivan & Krusher for the U.S. Tag Team Titles. Late January '87, Darsow replaces Randy Culley as Smash.

I'm talking to Jimmy! That's the trick companies use to not pay you, they start playing, "he said, she said" on you and it's a Catch 22.

Never knew this story. I have wondered why he left JCP when he was in a good spot with the Russians. Dusty screwed up by promising something he had no control over. Barry made the best decision of his career walking out on Crockett. Loved Demolition & still do. Both Barry & Bill seem like great guys.
