    Chris, thanks for the reply. My first car was a 62 ragtop . Since then I,be collected every thing from Jeep grand Wagoneers to 66 Bronco’s, TA, fiats, triumphs etc. My love are VW’s . My favorite is a KARMANN GHIA Vert. Engine mods are something I’m not familiar with . Thought at minimum boring for slightly larger pistons, with larger carbs and more air with eletronic injection would add some power to cruise the freeways . Maybe it is more trouble than it’s worth as a daily driver . Not trying to build a drag car.

    Very informative!! Thank you for sharing, I always used to wonder and had questions in my mind about "what color is best for what part" and the "Heat" issues. Kool!

    I am diggin up an old post here and might have a silly question, but i have a 1972 beetle and the engine/engine bay is dirty with years of crud. Can i spray with cleaner and then jet wash? Or is that too risky with water hetting into things?

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs  4 роки тому

      Is your bug all gutted? Or still together?

    • @alistairvr6
      @alistairvr6 4 роки тому +1

      @@classicvwbugs its still together and running. I know that a new you car leave it running and you can gently hose the engine down aslong as you stay away from intakes and fuse boxes and so on but not sure if it would be wise on a beetle

    Chris thank you for this video great info on the different paints. I liked the por15 touch that's nice. Do you have or recommend any over the counter spray paint that may resemble the color of L87 pearl white. By the way I ordered your engine fire wall recently it looks great thanks...

      Hey my friend! Yeah try rustoleum almond paint, that is close to pearl white.

    A bit of a grave dig here so hopefully you find it.
    Do you bother to paint the heads, or just the valve covers?

    if I brought a 70s beetle would a 60s wing (which I think is fenders in the USA) usually fit right with the beading?

    I have a few 65-67 beetles. Have one of 8 to be a higher performance engine. Just more power for the street, not racing. QUESTION: Can it be machined for larger pistons, and is there a kit to replace other bolt on, change out performance parts necessary? Thanks

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs  6 років тому

      Yes for sure, the sky is the limit with Bugs. They sell various kits out there for more performance. Just keep in mind, the more you add on, the more you open yourself up for more repairs and maintenance. Most of the stuff today is aftermarket. But check out cip1.com or jbugs.com

    Do u have to get the parts sanded down first ?

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs  6 років тому

      For sure, in order to have good paint or powder coating, best is to have it down to bare metal.

    And are you going with the period correct engine for the 52 bug?

    I've been using high heat rustoelum spray paint for engine parts not really vw but other engines and it was quite good. I just have a question, do you paint the block?? I saw one of your videos were there is a block painted silver. Woudl it make it overheat or not? have you ever had any problems with overheating engines after painting them? I read the Bob Hover comments and he said only flat black for parts in contact with hot oil. What's your experience with that? just wanted to know cuz I'd love to paint my whole engine

    • @classicvwbugs
      @classicvwbugs  8 років тому +1

      We paint our blocks the silver high heat grill paint and have never had
      an issue with over heating. Just a light coat. We also make sure our
      engine bay is sealed correctly so everything stays cool.

      @K4lr0b 8 років тому

      Chris Vallone thanks for answering my question fast. So it would be no problem painting the block then . I'm gonna make sure to seal the engine bay like you said.
