I truly enjoyed the modern thor omnis and the entire non 616 spider-man stuff (well mostly non 616 I know that changes part way through Mile's story) has been super enjoyable.

@@GimilitheGreat awesome! I really want to check out JMS’ Thor. Is that one of the modern Omnis you’re referring to?
I’ve read Fraction’s and I’m making my way through Aaron’s.
And yeah all the Ultimate Spidey stuff I’ve loved

@@TheComicBookReport JMS' Thor is sooooo good. I think I've beat that drum before but don't let that omni pass you by. Only one complaint which is not JMS' fault: it got interrupted by an event and JMS bailed because of it. But Gillen didn't do a bad job taking the baton (all things considered).

Anything Daredevil, all three ultimate spidermans (miles peter, and 6160), and civil war.

A simple story, at a low cost, and that introduces many spider-man villains

@@TheComicBookReport good question, besides what you covered I’d say Bendis’ New Avengers is a great place to jump in and get exposed to the majority of the Marvel Universe at that time. It’s out of print but Fraction’s Iron Man is a perfect connection to bring an MCU fan into the comics

Another really helpful video. I really appreciate your style - you give just enough info to entice me to read without giving away plot twists. I'm currently catching up on about 30 years of Daredevil and Batman runs (my favorite heroes, too!) but think I'll start branching out into Fantastic Four next. Brubaker's Captain America sounds awesome, too.

I love the ambition of this video.. Couple of things I'm enjoying disagreeing with: As much as I love silver age SM and FF and Avengers I think it would scare away most new readers. As for Hickman. He's one of my faves but he's not new reader friendly. Just like I love Grant Morrison but outside of All-Star SM I would never recommend them to a new reader (unless I knew that new reader was specifically into trippy, mind-bending stuff). You took a big bite here and I love it. Edit: I'm referring to Hickman's FF here since I haven't read Ultimate Invasion.

@@blurjose oh I love comments like these! 😂
I think your notes are super valid! I threw in some silver age simply because I’m sure there are readers or new prospective readers who want to check out where these comics all began-believe it or not some of these titles were my on-ramps into comic reading, but absolutely those who want a modern pacing etc will likely grapple with the oldies
And your point on Hickman is valid. I still
Think a newer reader could enjoy Hickman’s FF but a more seasoned Marvel fan would likely draw more from it. At least that’s my opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️
Again valid points across the board ha
Any books or runs you’d add to the list to recommend to newer readers out there my friend? 📚📚📚

    • @blurjose

@@TheComicBookReport Fair points. I think I would have to add Hawkeye by Fraction/Aja. It's just so fun and creative and really shows off the things comics can do. Alias by Bendis is also a nice balance to show off how comics can do more than superhero stuff (even if Jessica does have powers). Oh, and maybe Black Cat by McKay. While that wouldn't make my top 10 list personally, I could really see recommending it to a reader that wanted some Ocean 11 style clever adventure/comedy.

@@TheComicBookReport Oh, and man I can't disagree with Bendis' DD. That's my favorite character too and maybe two DD's on the list isn't the worst thing? Oh and how can I forget Simonson's Thor run? Or Aaron's?! Ok, I can see how it's hard to make these lists when you're passionate! LOL

@TheComicBookReport Hot take: it's easier to get into dc than marvel. Hear me out, dc has so many recent titles that also give an origin and also have easier titles to follow. Especially new 52, while it did kinda suck, it is good for getting new readers into dc! Marvel has so much history in the main universe, you have to read the ultimate comics (usually) to find stuff out, but the only good ultimate comics were spiderman. Marvel has never reset their universe once, so with jsut that alone it's so much harder to figure out where to start in Marvel.
