Obviously I think all of Zimmer's music for PotC is phenomenal, but any tracks relating to Davy Jones and the Kraken are particularly unique. He had this odd idea of mixing Jones' ethereal take on the sea with hard rock meets gothic choral music to essentially define Jones' niche in PotC. I can't wait for the Davy Jones suite, keep up the good work! (PS: Love the Watto LEGO Minifig, I'm a LEGO Lover too!)
2:59 I really, really like how heavy this sounds and plays in tandem with Jones' footsteps as he boards the ship wreck. This motif that's often repeated sounds so merciless and intimidating and I think it conveys the beast's nature very well.
At first, I thought it was guitars playing in this but its actually lower strings plugged into guitar amps. That's the reason why it had that kind of "heavy metal" or "hard rock" sounding vibe. I really like that attention to detail.
I met this terrifying creature once. The year was 1729, and me crew and I had just finished raiding a small village of the coast of Cuba. We were sailing towards Tortuga when we heard a tremendously loud sound, and then it appeared, right in front of our eyes: a giant, green-ish tentacle, rising with ferocious speed above our ship’s main mast. We all screamed in terror, knowing that we would most likely not survive this. Then the tentacle came crashing down on our ship, breaking the poop deck in two, and sending several of me men spiraling into the air. The rest of us ran, panicking. Some jumped overboard, others ran below decks, or tried to climb high into the rigging. Me, not wanting to desert me ship but knowing I had to get away from this wretched creature, flung myself onto a rope ladder and began climbing. And as I did, more and more tentacles rose up from the sea and plunged themselves into our ship, shaking the whole vessel violently. I lost my footing and fell from the rigging, only to find meself entangled in some ropes at the end of the ladder. Then it happened, I felt a tentacle grab onto me left leg. I reached frantically for the rigging, but it did no good. The tentacle pulled on me leg and I was ripped from the rigging, and went soaring through the air, straight towards the churning sea. But suddenly, the tentacle let go of me leg, leaving me to fall onto the almost destroyed deck. One of me crew members had managed to load a cannon and fire it at the creature, luckily hitting the tentacle that had grabbed me leg. The last thing I remember was falling towards the broken staircase, and falling into one of the cracks. I woke up the next morning floating on a piece of wood, the wreckage of me once magnificent ship nearby and no sign of me crew anywhere. 🏴☠️
Only it's not a guitar, some instruments like double-bass were just connected via guitar preamp I also love to imagine that Zimmer took some inspiration from the Jaws theme
@@paulandrieu673 I heard something recently about a submarine that had been attacked by something and they found sucker marks all over its hull that were far larger than any known squid (including giant and colossal) so honestly I wouldn’t doubt for a second that there could be a supermassive squid species living in deep water who only extremely rarely come to the surface and mistake a boat for a whale or some kind of prey. It's got symphonic metal vibes. I freaking love that genre. That's why I've always been drawn to Kraken's Theme.
