    Nice video. Even though it is a lot of work your video showed that it can be done as long as you have time and patience. Even though the ABC suspension can be a nightmare I am still not afraid of a CL. Dealing with the ABC suspension is part of owning a CL/S Class and the SL. The system is under very high pressure so you can imagine that parts will eventually need to be replaced at some point especially if you don’t flush it regularly.

      Yep with these cars it's sort of a trade-off. The torque and power I think are worth the maintenance and if it wasn't for the maintenance these cars would be crazy expensive still. Thanks for watching!

    I replaced the tandem pump on my SL65. Access to the is pump nearly non-existent. Definitely harder to access than what I see here on the CL. I spent several days working on it. I found a reman pump on Amazon which looked exactly like the replacement you got (entire pump painted gray, including the fittings). I stripped it and repainted it properly. I kept my core and rebuilt it as a spare for "next time". The issue was the steel reservoir on the front of the pump had a hairline crack from one of the internal pistons which had backed out, causing a slow leak from the crack.

    Hi from your other video. So I’m going in today to change valve blocks and accumulators. I need to operate the car off the ramp to get it on jack stands. My question is if I disconnect the pump (that black part @ 10:00) will it disable the pump so it doesn’t shoot fluid all over when I move the car? Currently valve blocks are off and I don’t want to make a mess or waste the oil which is quite expensive!

Also my ABC pump makes that annoying sound when you drive the car! Im gonna get the YellowSpeedRacing coil overs, i need a non ABC pump, so it will be the same procedure as this right? Removing the ABC pump and just putting in a regular power steering pump? Thanks!!!

    Before I go ahead and change out the pump, I just had a quick question which may seem obvious but here goes. If the pump is faulty, would it still be able to pump the passenger side up vs both sides. I asked a mechanic online and they said it was the pump based on all the other information I provided but this very basic fact that it lifts one side makes me believe the pump is still good. Awesome video by the way for fellow Benz owners!

    • @cassidycarcave2781

      No way to know for sure but I doubt it is the pump.(Unless you have a scan tool/star diagnostics and can do a rodeo test) More likely one of the valve blocks or one of the struts themselves are bad. I'm with you, if the pump was bad it wouldn't lift anything. Also, the pumps make a tremendous whining noise at any rpm above 1500 when they go bad, at least mine did!! Thanks for watching!!!

    • @bobby_digital9493
      @bobby_digital9493 2 роки тому

      @@cassidycarcave2781 Thanks for the reply, no whining noise so that’s a big relief. I do actually have the star diagnostic tool but still cannot get it to do any rodeo or general abc test, keeps throwing an communication error 8.600.0. each time. The car performed rodeo test fine and stayed at ride height steady for weeks. I rebuilt the blocks and replaced the accumulators when a line burst and was waiting for the replacement thinking I would get it nice and “new” that’s when my troubles began. The odd thing is it lifts both front and back of the passenger so it’s hard to narrow which blocks to pinpoint since I believe the rear lifts the rear and front lifts the front right? Any ideas would be really appreciated. It’s a 02 CL55 and it’s been sitting for a year and a half and I’ve been itching to drive it.

    Question for you, I bought a CL600 that needed a coil pack, ran and everything just fine (minus misfire) and now it's blowing white smoke after the new Coil pack was installed and new plugs, old plugs where black and looked factory. My brain is not understanding this one. lol Figured it was just burning off build up? no check engine light, no sounds other than the blown ABC pump. It's a white smoke with a musty burnt smell.

    • @cassidycarcave2781
      @cassidycarcave2781  3 роки тому

      don't want to scare you and hopefully it's not the case but white smoke is generally an indication of coolant in the combustion chamber. Pull your coolant reservoir cap when the car is cool and see if you see anything that looks like oil or sludge in there. It should be super clean....other thing you could try would be to remove the negative cable on the battery overnight. This would reset the ECU for the fuel injection and ignition. Perhaps it's learned some bad things from the coils being bad...

They are located in just in front of both wheels on the driver side... So there are two...Not too bad of a job but unfortunately it was before I started making videos. Hi, 2001 S600 W220 here. I am close to getting the old one out but I am stuck. On mine, I have a metal fluid accumulator (cylinder 4" long by 2" diameter) attached to the abc pump. It is on the side top of the abc pump and a metal tube goes to a bayonnet fitting that is attached to the pump. I have the 2 front E12 nuts off of the accumulator bracket. I have the fitting disconnected from the ABC pump. However, the metal tubing continues down towards the steering rack I think. Can you educate me on how to get that assembly disconnected, please? Do I have to lift the car and uncrews the tube from the top of the steering rack from underneath the car, please? Regards, Bo

    So I just bought an SL600 off Cars and Bids and within 4 days of getting her my power steering was all on the floor and had to get it towed to mechanic ... He cant find where the leak is coming from but as gravity shows it drips from 2 hoses that run alongside each other when you take the under belly off, then it pops back over the transmission tunnel and disappears to other side of the car .. When we refill the power steering I can drive it for short period of time, but I just bought an endoscope and am hoping I can trace where exactly this leak is coming from before mechanic disassembles the entire car just to get to these hoses crammed in the bay.
    Any tips lol?

      Hey Jordan thanks for watching! I love cars and bids there are such cool cars listed there. Of course you know that because you bought one of them! Love the SL600 :-) common fail points are the valve blocks front and rear where the ABC suspension comes together. I'm sure you know the ABC suspension and the power steering systems share the same fluid...also, there are nitrogen spheres for each corner of the car that can fail and leak. And then of course there's the power steering/ABC pump itself which is what failed on my 1994 SL600 and was creating a mess! Check out benzworld.org... awesome forums for specific models and I bet somebody has had an issue similar to yours. @@cassidycarcave2781 Hate. I didn't even like it when it worked right. Very unnatural feeling in the way the car moves on the road. So far the ABC, PSE pump, and HVAC fan/controller have proven to be made from inferior components or poor design on my S600.

      @@scootypuffjr. Yea I get it the troubles are sometimes not worth it in these complicated systems. Most people that delete and go coil overs say the ride is just as good. Luxury cars focus too much now on gadgets and tech to market cars instead of just building the best product. My 1990 Bentley has no tech, cost less than $10k and rides and drives better than anything else I own. Point is it FEELS different than other cars and it should!! Luxury brands should stand apart in quality and appearance rather than looking like Camrys with crappy reliability. Rant over...thanks for watching and commenting!!!

      @@cassidycarcave2781 I got hooked on MB when I bought an old W126 300SDL. I love that car. Only thing i wanted was more power. So, i went to the other extreme and did the S600 TT. I hate that car and will likely never buy another MB. New or used.

      I wish I could help! I'll check and see if my car has the same hose - there were some changes made after 2003. If I have that hose and when mine goes bad I'll certainly cover it in a video...Thanks for watching!

      This evil hose
      There are from 2002 to 2006
      Carries a spare parts number
      A2203205372
      In the video you mentioned that it is not easy to disassemble and install
      This is the hose
      The problem you have is that you shorten the time in recording the video
      We do not want to shorten the video. We want to see everything done, disassemble and reconfigure so that we can learn from you how to disassemble and maintain
      Even if it lasts for several hours, there is no problem
