But I thought Ness' family would instantly die since the four kids had to exchange bodies into robots to survive; plus Pokey had to stay in *his* robot
That's the point to this video. Giygas only goes through those phases when he's taken the obscene amounts of damage that the power of the praying people did to him. Without that, it never shows the other forms.
you must have to patience of a saint. I know giygas has a shit ton of health, and poison each turn only does about 20. If only it did more and more each turn, i would do this on my game.
So, beating him in battle in any way or form gets you to the light-up thing and, basically, the same ending? Interesting way to transition there, though :O
@sonicfanboyee Nope. It's a side effect of the glitch used. The game prepares the mid-battle cut scenes before the battle, but because the boss is killed the "wrong" way and the cut scenes are never shown, the characters appear there.
Normal bash attack damage done to Giygas. HP: 2000 Jeff: 251 HP Giygas: 1749 Poo: 275 HP Giygas: 1474 Paula: 248 HP Giygas: 1226 Paula: 765 HP Giygas: 0461 Poison: 18 HP Giygas: 0443 Ness: 248 HP Giygas: 0200
I can still Poison Giygas in the normal game but Pokey later comes on the screen. I guess they forgot that damage from status aliment can cause the you won message when using it on Giygas.
@ElecManX Not just the sound, what happened to the trippy graphical distortion that made the original so terrifying? Especially when Giygas kicks the bucket and the screen goes apeshit.
That cutscene always plays out. After defeating Giygas, since the robotic bodies aren't needed anymore, their souls fly back to their original bodies in the overworld.
@TARINunit9 It just showed the family in there because when you first start praying, those sprites are loaded to show them praying for you, too. At least, I think that's how it worked.
@PuurfectSushi Giygas never wanted to be Ness' friend. He corrupts porky, and tries to destroy the world. In magicant, you see the pure side of porky, and he says he wants to be your pal.
@sayastra unfortunantly the gba version of mother 2 doesnt have very good music, since gba cant play the snes versions music at the same quality...or something.
I haven't beat Earthbound in over a decade, but I don't think Ness's mom, sister, and dog make it to the netherworld Giygas inhabits, especially in non-robot form. It may be a glitch left over from the prayer sequence which they are a part of.
@leafbarrett To elaborate on BungholeMcGee's answer: He just keeps pounding on you until you run out of resources. IIRC, he has 65535 HP and it refills every turn, and I doubt it's possible to deal that much damage in a single round... Though I'd like to see if you hackers out there can prove me wrong.
well you gotta remember back then people who made the games tried to stay away from any thing that was related to sex or even brought the idea for the fear that the parents would get mad and stop their kids from buying more games so they did their best to keep it clean and that is why it cant be a baby/fetus

It's funny to see Ness's family with Gigyas. They were probably like, "Dafuq is going on? Where am I?"

Beating Giygas: atheist version XD
The praying in this game has no relation to God, though. It's telepathy.

so the glitch is letting giygas get killed by an ailment. specifically poison.

When you have to beat this game but you're a full time athiest
For some reason, I associate the Giygas boss music from GBA with being sick/ill because my first time hearing the music, I was bit sick.
...Well, that was anticlimactic...
That's an interesting glitch, though.
Good job to the person that found it.
