Making a LEGO Room - Boarding The Loft For More Space

  • I came to the same problem I am sure many fans of LEGO have, I had run out of space! The solution I came up with was to board the loft, creating a large amount of extra space. I detail how I went about doing this using the LoftZone system. I discuss options including DIY vs professionals, getting quotes and very important safety considerations. Once work is complete I show how much actual space I now have, and how I will turn the loft into a LEGO room.

That's a great idea! Really uses space optimally

Thank you. It was a totally wasted space before, so it is great to finally be able to use it.

The British loft is a very useful space indeed so long as it’s high enough of course. I’ve seen some where you can only just crawl along. Luckily my loft is high like yours and boarded it up myself when we moved in over 30 years ago. I never thought about the load bearing tbh and is rammed full of unbuilt lego sets eeek! To date I’ve not seen any cracks or creaks but will be clearing most of it when my small box room is ready to be used. I look forward with great interest to see your loft project develop.

Thank you. Good to hear you have managed to put your loft space to good use too. I did quite a bit of research before we decided to go ahead with the project. It seems many older houses were built to withstand more than the more recent builds. Luckily you have not had any issues in your house 😃

A great use of space. Here's an idea. If you put a table along the brick wall and shelve or table the area either side where you were standing. You create a larger u shaped lego city. You'll also give yourself better walk space.

Thank you for your comment, some great ideas there! I had it in my mind to make a large Lego city all in one block, where everything could be seen in one shot. Putting the tables either side could be good though, such as making distinct zones and access as you mention. Issues I may have is how much height I have to play with as the the roof angles down at the edges. Taller sets may not fit there. Also I then only have camera angles on 2 sides. I am going to take some measurements and see if it is doable though.

Great video very helpful 👍for the dust and heating issues u might want to consider purchasing a Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool™ Formaldehyde.

Thank you, glad you found the video useful 😀 I am not sure an air purifier would work in my loft. It can get quite a bit of wind going through, slightly larger things like plant seeds get blown in. With the way the air gets blasted around up there, I am not convinced an air purifier would be powerful enough to filter that all out before it hits the Lego on the tables.

seems like a cool project. If it gets cold you should look into getting pink foam insulation board, that could help with temperatures in the winter and its easy to work with and for dust it would be better to get an air purifier, so you wouldnt need to cover all the sets and you can find good ones for around 100 pounds.

Thank you for your comment, some great ideas. I will definitely make a note of the insulation board you mention, will see how I get on up there when it is freezing outside. As I would only be up there for a short time I thought I would be ok while briefly filming. Although now you mention it I do have a foldable stool I could put up there which would be useful. Thank you for your comment 👍
