I love the little wink the truck does with the bottom left light on the second one

Here in the U.K. that's simple road etiquette. One headlight flash to let someone in or turn in front of you, etc... Two flashes on the hazards for thank you if your behind them, a hand up towards the windscreen if they are in front of you.
Sometimes if you are letting them merge from say the right and they are indicating left they'll flash and right and then a left to say thank you as on some cars the hazard light switch is on the steering column.

I’m probably the only person in my friend group that does this

You are supposed to flash your lights when it’s safe for the truck driver to come over into your lane. You shouldn’t flash them when any part of his trailer is next to you or you could get hit.

In the UK, this is completely unremarkable. I find it remarkable that it is considered so remarkable in the US that it warrants a UA-cam video! In the UK, it is normal to see lorry drivers flash each other to tell the overtaking lorry driver that he has enough room to pull back in. Car drivers do it for lorry drivers too but less often because they tend to be travelling faster than the lorries. Many of us also do it for the drivers of panel vans who may have limited rearward visibility.

Most of Europe also do it. It's just a normal thing as you say. I'm driving in Scandinavia and I do it when someone overtakes me and if I overtake someone. Nothing special.

But when saying thanks we lorry drivers often indicate left-right-left-right rapidly, that way it's unambiguously gratitude rather than indicating there's a hazard ahead.

@@eezergoode8588 I do the same. I was talking about flashing headlights to let lorry drivers ahead know they can pull back in.
